The Seafood Paella is excellent -- generous, beautifully made, and perfect for sharing between two people. The service is the kind you remember: friendly, attentive, and genuinely glad you came. The room is quaint and comfortable, easy to settle into and talk across the table. My wife and I arrived just after 5pm on a Saturday night. The place was totally empty (which is seldom a good sign for me). Very unassuming store from. Inside was open and pleasant. The music was a loop of calypso with the most annoying, nightmare inducing AI video I've ever seen. But I digress... The Food... my wife had a Cuban sandwich special which came with a guava smoothie (?) she also ordered a side of Yuca Frita. The insides of the sandwich were good but totally overtaken by the bread which was dry and too crumbly. But the thing that sums up this visit was the Yuca Fries...$4 for (I kid you not) THREE yuca fries! Yes, I said 3 little yuca fries on a small plate for $4!!!! I had the Vaca Frita with Yuca con Mojo and grilled veggies. The meat was dry but the flavors of all were pretty good. Ended the meal with "Cuban" coffee which was NOT Cuban coffee but what tasted like unsweetened instant espresso. And a flaN which was the highlight of the meal. Good portion, fresh and delicious. I was told this place had been open for 2 years. Hard to believe. Maybe we came at a bad time but I wouldn't expect a place like this to last six months. Oh, the server was pleasant enough. I don't think she knew just how bad things are. I'd give this place 1 star if not for the fact the flavors were okay. Oh yes, almost forgot...the bill for this lackluster of an experience was $58 including tip!! (Did I mention we drank water? Drink prices were incredibly overpriced). And finally, a terrible case of heartburn accompanied me for the rest of the evening. My wife and I grew up in South Florida so we kinda know what this food should taste like. This place is my go to for food that feels and tastes like home. The picadillo is seasoned very well and is not greasy at all. The congris pairs very well with it and for a sweet touch i added plantains. My boyfriend had the vaca frita and it was very tender and flavorful, he had yuca with mojo as a side and a vegetable skewer. Everything tasted very fresh! The service was very good and fast, our server that worked yesterday between 1pm to 3pm which was a girl (didnt get her name) was very attentive! I loved the ambiance and the music that transported me back to Cuba and Spain. We both went with the Vaca Frita. The flavor was good but adding their house made hot sauce took it up a notch. That hot sauce is not for the faint of heart but us two heat lovers enjoyed. Recently, I was in Jacksonville for work and I did a splatter paint night at the art place in the same strip. I saw this place specialized in paella and knew I had to check it out. I try to eat vegetarian, but do enjoy seafood from time to time. Which this place definitely hit the paella fix! My coworkers and I went here on a Thursday evening and were one of two tables for dinner service. Really shocked to see this place not busier for a dinner service, but perhaps a rainy evening contributed to it. The service was a little slow, but friendly. Loved being able to enjoy tapas then entrees with a wonderful bottle of Tempranillo; not always easy to find a good Tempranillo when dining out. Definitely return here if in Jacksonville again. Saw this spot after work off Highway 1 near JTB and decided to give them a try. It is fusion of authentic Cuban and Spanish meals. For starters, we had the Pan de Jamón in 3 pieces. It was very good. For the main plates, the Spanish Paella was the obvious choice and Ajo de Pollo (Garlic Chicken) with red rice and the fixings. They were both muy delicioso, flavor and sessoning was on point and we finished everything on our plates. The venue has enough space to seat over 30 guests in a pretty relaxed atmosphere. We came here based on all of the five star Yelp reviews. There's only a couple of parking spots out front, but the door entry is on the side and there's plenty of parking in the back. It's a regular square building with cafeteria like tables inside. As soon as we were set, the waitress came out to us, and we asked her opinion on a few things as well as what was in certain dishes. She was super friendly and nice and quick We were going to go with a paella, but we weren't that hungry. So we started with the cod croquettes which were delicious. They were kind of a creamy inside and crispy outside. We then got the Cuban piccata because it looked like it had a nice assortment of items. The fried cheese and the fried potatoes were tasteless. The pork in the dish was kind of chewy and not that much flavor as well. I don't care for chorizo, but my husband said that was very good. The rice and beans were very good, but I feel they were the same as any other place that I've gotten black beans and rice from. We decided to try something new. Casa Iberica is a Spanish fusion restaurant located on Philips Highway close to the J Turner Butler blvd. It's a casual dining experience with a lot of natural light and plentiful parking with an accessible parking lot. We did not have reservations and were seated within 2 minutes. One of the chefs was working the front as his waiter was unfortunately out for the day but he was prompt and attentive. We decided to try the croquettes and empanadas followed by Chicken Fricassee and Chicken Skewers in mushroom sauce. I didn't sample their sangria but will try to do it next tine. Atmosphere is nice. The food is somewhat overpriced. I got the fillet entrée which is 40 something dollars for 6 ounce portion. Asked for medium rare and the portion served was medium well. The flavors and seasoning was nice. Other members of our party got the paella which was good but for $30 not as much seafood as I would've liked and also not excellent as far as flavor goes. It was a lot of rice. The ham and cheese croquettes were probably the best thing that we ordered. The purée that it is served with is delicious. The flan was overcooked and grainy. We ate early because I have small children, but they only had one server for this medium sized restaurant that seats maybe 70 people. There was seven tables there and the server was really struggling to keep up so the Service suffered although she was very nice and obviously trying very hard. My parents called ahead and left a voicemail that they wanted to order the paella and would arrive at 5:15 PM. We know that it takes a long time to cook and when we got there, we were told it would be at least 35 minutes for it to come out. The manager claimed he did not get this voicemail and went into this long description about how his AI program transcribes the voicemail and emails it to him or whatever. Regardless it was piss poor Service Recovery. A voicemail was left and he didn't get it and somehow he was trying to blame us or say that his AI system was infallible or something. I don't know. It was somewhat surreal the way he handled the problem. They did comp one piece of flan for our table due to the wait and the poor Service, however, because the flan was not very good, It didn't really make up for the shortfall. The menu is very small too. They just redid this restaurant and changed it from a Cuban and Spanish to only Spanish so supposedly this is like their starter/opening/trial menu however there are not enough options. I have three small kids and there was almost nothing for them to eat. I got them the ham croquettes and the charcuterie board. Mostly they just ate bread. The fresh bread that they served was not that good either. If I'm going to eat white bread, it should be good. Anyway, they're trying hard, but I don't think we will be back here. read more

Loved stumbling across this little spot that IG put me on. So cute an inviting, you'd never know it was there. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Our church is just north of this new restaurant on the right side of Phillips Hwy north of Butler. The menu is very detailed with Spanish and Cuban selections. The food was amazing and served with a basket or two of warm bread. I had the white beans simmered with sausage, ham and what looked like salt pork and my husband had black beans, a friend had a huge Cuban and MIL had the white beans. Everything was cooked for hours except for the Cuban. We also loved the sweet plantains, flan and churros. Will definitely come back! I could eat there every day from their fabulous menu. Oh my gosh. This is such a fantastic find. Amazing sides. The food is just ((chefs kiss)) great proportions. It's actually just really pretty to look at even I got rice as a side and it literally reminds me of my moms and being little. Chicken skewers with mushroom were simple fresh and honestly felt like something a place focused on fresh food would make. They used a really light cheese sauce across the skewers and it's so smooth and has such a nice texture with the grilled chicken. I feel like when you want a hearty but fast affordable and healthier choices without a big price this is a go to. My experience was terrible, I made a reservation for Mother's Day with a lot of time in advance and it turns out that 3 hours before the day of the reservation they call me and cancel it, and give me two different versions as if I were stupid for not realizing the lie they were telling me. There isn't ant "table sauce" either. You can ask for some.but what they bring is also underwhelming. Shoutout to Maxi and all the community heroes at this venue. My husband was born in Hialeah, Florida and he grew up eating some of the best Cuban food in the state. We were so happy to be able to celebrate in the nostalgic flavors of the cuisine offered here. Hubby ordered the roast pork, black beans, and yucca. He loved the black beans here. It was well seasoned and had the perfect texture. We did indulge in the classic café con leches and some buttered toast. It also came with a side of honey. I ordered some of my favorites too. I had Carnitas Fritas De Puerco, yellow rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. Maxi brought me two types of hot sauce. My favorite ended up being the Housemade pepper sauce. It is a a thick pepper mash that adds the perfect spicy kick to any savory dish. This was a generous amount of pork. It was tender, well seasoned, and flavorful! Hubby was right one money about the beans! No gritty texture at all and to me, that is a sign of a skilled chef! The yellow rice was cooked well and every individual grain was giving love! The plantains were my guilty pleasure. It was soft, sweet, a great golden color, and luscious! It balances the savory with a little sweet. I love alternating bites of the sides with the pork. My senses were never bored. Boy, did we get full! And since it was my first visit, of course I had to sample a dessert. We picked the rice pudding. It was soft, sweet, thick pudding with a dusting of fragrant cinnamon. What a lovely meal!!! Maxi was so sweet, welcoming, and even sang along with some of the lovely salsa music playing overhead. This was our first experience and was not sure what to expect but our waitress was very helpful in explaining the contents of each dish and helped us with our main selections. We were very pleased with our dishes! I had the chicken skewers with mushroom sauce (which was very flavorful and I detected a hint of lemon in the sauce) along with Moro Rice (black beans and rice mixed together), and sweet plantains (which were not very sweet). Hubby had the Chicken Fricassee (Cuban style stew) which was served in a bowl, and he selected yellow rice and black beans. Homemade individually for us by the chef, and we will be back soon to try other menu items soon based on the dishes served at other tables! I have been homesick for Cubanos and Casa Ibérica knows how to make them properly. I am only sad they do a Miami Cubano and not a Tampeño one (IYKYK). But when they use Cuban bread from La Segunda bakery, all is forgiven about Miami vs. Tampa style. I have had Cubanos all over Jax and it has been a disappointment every time: wrong bread (not Cuban bread), wrong mustard (spicy brown?), wrong lechón/jamón with no sabor, sweet pickles (shudders), not pressed, over pressed/burnt/oily, all of the above. Why is making a simple sandwich so hard? I am certain that cigar workers in Tampa from when my bisabuelo was alive would salute Casa Ibérica for doing the simple act of making a Cubano correctly. I salute them too. Bravo! On top of this, smelling them cooking when I was there felt like I was at my mother's home. It made me miss my mama like I do every single day. Hey everyone. My girl and I tried a new restaurant on Phillips today. It's tucked away in a nondescript shopping center, but it's a hidden gem. We went to eat at an off hour around 3:30 or so, so the restaurant was slow. Just two other tables and us. It's nice inside, lots of light through the windows and just feels very pleasant. Our server, Melanie, greeted us, explained the menu a bit and took our drink orders. We started with Patatas Bravas and Chorizo Croquettes. My girl also ordered a Cortado. The bravas were spiced just right with a smokey heat and two sauces spread across the top. The potatoes were very hot from the kitchen, but that did not stop both of us from quickly digging in. The croquettes were simply amazing. A crispy outside and gooey inside with a yummy cheesy chorizo filling. I really liked these more than other croquettes I've had around town. Our entrees followed the starters at a good pace. I had Albondigas Espanolas and she had Salmon en salsa de narangas. My Spanish meat balls were so damn good. I was not expecting something so simple to be packed with flavor. So juicy, and filled with yum. My side salad was nice dressed nicely with olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. The yuca fries were crunchy on the outside and tender inside. My girl's salmon in orange sauce was equally yummy. A bright flavor, very orange present, served over mash potatoes and asparagus. I would definitely order this for myself on a future visit. I had a cafe con leche to close out the meal. I don't know what beans they use but her Cortado and my Cafe con leche were delicious. A good roast on the bean and a smooth, not bitter flavor. This place has so many interesting items on the menu. You could make a night of small plates or just enjoy an entree. Melanie was very personable and took very good care of us. The chef spoke with us briefly and asked about our experience and where we first heard about his restaurant. All in all, if you like Spanish foods or are looking to experience something new in Jax that's not wings, tenders, tacos or pizza, go give this place a try. To me Service and human interaction is 50% of my likes when I go out. Those guys there have why it takes, friendly, courteous and willing to make your visit pleasant. As for food, if you're Spanish speaking you will love it. And the natural fruit smoothies are real good (not full of sugar) It's a combination of my best places Cuba and Spain. Literally just a lucky chance that this restaurant was near my pit stop hotel. Zipping about for work and I usually do a booking.com check while gassing up or otherwise stopped to find a hotel in my company's budget that has food nearby. Staff was lovely and I'm guessing all family. This sounds crazy for a hotel stop but the wine list was obviously hand chosen instead of being the distributors sale items. The food was delicious. I only regret the things I wasn't able to try. Such a reversal of my usual road food experiences where stars fly around like a ninja training camp. I'd have an anniversary at this place.
