As many others, was referred by Gio at the Hampton Inn. Was able to be seated quickly. Nice environment. Good service though not very personable. We both ordered tilapia with shrimp. My husband's came with jumbo shrimp and he said flavored well. My stuffed tilapia wasn't stuffed and had chopped pieces of shrimp, a red sauce and a huge layer of cheese. The red beans and rice were as dry as if they just came out of the bag. The service was just indifferent, we had an order of frys, she asked if we wanted ketchup, at the end of the meal she produced an empty ketchup bottle. The interior was ok with a cuban look. First of all the service here was good, the ladies that took our order were attentive and we got our order pretty timely. But the food was horrendous, we went for lunch and we ordered off the lunch menu. We ordered "Chicharrones de Pollo" and this was not at all what we received. What we actually got was fried chicken drum and a thigh, drenched in oil. There was a mountain of oil in the containers that were given. I also ordered salad and beans on the side, they did not give me beans but instead gave me white rice. The fried chicken wasn't terrible, but the fact it was drenched in oil made my stomach feel terrible, and my coworkers who also ordered the same thing felt the same. It feels like they just dropped the chicken in oil, fried it and scooped it out of the oil without letting any of the oil out. Chicharrones are Chicharrones, not oil drenched fried chicken drum and thigh. The advertised plate was incorrect. This experience was very disappointing and we will not be coming back here to eat nor would I recommend it. read more

Wow this place knocked our socks off! Have only had Cuban food a few times, and this was amazing! Makes me wish they had more Cuban options where I live. The Carne con Papas melted on your mouth it was so good! The Platano Relleno de Picadillo - now that's where my socks got knocked off I can't even tell you how good this was! Casa Juan is amazing gem located in a plaza not far from the airport. On the outside there's a sign that showcases their daily specials and you can order from the outside too via a window. Immediately upon entering you're greeted by the host and welcomed to very amazing smells of their food. They also gave an appetizer of bread and garlic and it was so delicious too. They have daily specials and the portions are plentiful. I had the yellow rice with chicken which was served with a chicken thigh and drum, lots of rides, fresh veggies, and sweet plantains. The food was so delicious and enough to cover more than two meals. I'd highly recommend them and will return! read more

It was ok...a bit dry and could have used a little more flavor. My nephew ordered kids pizza and said it was ok. The yellow rice was bland. The veggies were bland and should have been steamed more. The mashed potatoes were not a hit. We did try the cafe con leche...it was great. The best thing we ate was the garlic bread they provide. We asked for more and never got any. It was delicious. We chose this restaurant due to the proximity to our hotel as we came in the night before a cruise. It was a short walk away from our hotel to this strip mall area. We were surprised by the number of security in the parking lot. I'm not sure if that is common or not. The restaurant itself was on the smaller side. Servers were quite friendly. They give you a complementary bread and olive oil to dip. The food itself was so so. I ordered my steak, medium rare and it looked like they had to cut it to make sure that it was cooked ok. There was parts of the steak that were actually cold. Luckily I didn't have any problems with my digestive track. My wife had ordered the paella and for whatever reason it didn't taste that good. I'm sure there's many choices when you come to Miami for Latin American food however this was the closest and you can make your own judgment whether you like it or not. read more

We randomly were looking for food close to the convention center, and let me tell you the food was bustin'. If you plan to dine in, accommodate for more time as we went when it was slightly busy. And I got the lunch special so price point was around $13-$14 which is not bad. If there is one thing you can take away from this review. Get the empanadas. We tried all the flavours: meat, spinach, ropa (shredded beef), chicken. My top was the spinach, it's not like other places, I think they add something to the spinach which makes it bomb. I tried a different place with their spinach empanadas and I was severely disappointed since it tasted just like actually real spinach. But trust. In terms of ranking: Spinach (#1), Ropa - there is bell peppers in it (#2), Chicken (#3), Meat (#4) - honestly tasted like hamburger ground meat for lunch but not in a good way. I was shopping at the publix at this plaza when I was about to leave an employee came out to harass me and girlfriend about where I was leaving my cart.. this employee came up to my window demanding I lower it and when I got out to talk to him he started yelling at me about where I was leaving my cart saying "the wind" would cause the cart to hit their car, (mind you it was a clear day with no wind) the employee then proceed to move the cart in front of my car, when I ask them "so you're just going to leave it in front of my car?" the employee responds "thats not mine" and when I got back out to move it he turned around in a threatening way to make sure I wasn't going to put it back by his car. like if this is how you treat people outside of the business, I can't imagine how it is inside. stop policing the parking lot or people outside, you dont own it. leave those spots for patrons and park your personal cars farther away if you dont want the risk of "the wind" to hit your car. read more

We went here on the recommendation of the Hampton Inn & Suites front desk people, and we were absolutely disappointed. Our server and all the other servers no doubt were overwhelmed by a party of 68 guests who came for a party all shortly after we arrived. It is, we believe, because of this that the kitchen and server staff were unable to perform favorably. One of our servings of grill fish had one filet nicely done and the other was barely cooked. The vegetables for that meal were completely cold. Our other meal, grilled chicken breast was satisfactorily cooked but was presented as cutlets rather than a regular breast of chicken, and it was toward the dry side and tough. The accompanying mashed potatoes were not warm either. The salad was presented with no salad dressing nor was any offered. We couldn't catch the attention of our server to rectify any of these problems, and one other server who I finally flagged down to request some dressing never returned. The staff were clearly unable to support their customers, so it seems the management made a major error in not just closing the restaurant to non-party customers. All of the above leads me to definitely not recommend this place. read more

The beans and rice alone would have been sufficient. My wife got something with chicken, and I got a platter with like four items along with rice and beans. I couldn't eat it all, but I was glad I got to try it all. I'm new to Cuban food. I've had a Cuban sandwich, but this was my first Cuban dinner. It was fantastic. From the moment we got there till we left, we were very well attended here. We loved the experience and the very "at home" environment that was created there. The churrasco was juicy and flavorful, the rice and maduros were great. Piña colada made well. Our sandwiches were exactly what we were looking for. We ended our meal with a couple cortaditos which were a great end to the meal. Came here for lunch and was extremely disappointed. Ordered the chicken from the daily specials. After about 20 minutes, my server Jose tells me that it's still not ready. It finally comes out a few minutes later, burnt and dry. I ordered it with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The veggies were not fresh and were served cold and wet (like they were billed frozen). The mashed potatoes were not fresh either and tasted like they were made from a box. The only thing that was good was the water, which was cold and refreshing. After a few bites, I signaled Jose for the check. He asked me how it was and I told him how poor everything was. He did not seem surprised and acted disinterested in my experience. Outside by the entrance they have a sign posted with what it appears to be the specials for the day. O ordered the whole snapper which was listed at 18.95. When done the fish dinner was billed at 29.95. When questioned they started to lie that it was a special for Friday and not weekend, also saying that the price was for a smaller fish. I simply told them that we're lying and ripping people for this bait and switching. They then erased the price on the whole fried snapper and left the board by the door. The most devious is that the waitress asked another waitress to verify and claimed of not seeing the fish on the board and then there is another waitress holding the door opened and smiling . I informed here that this was not a laughing matter and that they were ripping customers off. So in short be very much aware of this restaurant in not being honest in their prices. Very complicated ordering process. Clueless staff. No idea what a Tortilla Vasca is. Young kid addressing me as "Tú," when I could be his grandfather. Wanted to charge me $7.95, just to add shrimp to an omelette that already costs $14.00. Kid/waiter had to go back and forth to ask someone for the answers to my questions. Inside was nice, but I only wanted a sandwich... let's try the outdoor service. The staff was really nice. The order window was very short for me, so they got a good laugh about that. They told me the sandwich would be about 10 minutes. The sandwich arrived hot with the bread slightly toasted. They put little potato fries all on the sandwich which give it an extra crunch. Overall, I could tell the sandwich was fresh. They did not skimp on the two meats nor cheese. This place sales a variety of items which includes natural juices, seafoods, as well as mofongo.
