Went to Casa Paolo on Thursday, May 29th for my birthday and my parents' anniversary combo dinner. The ambiance was amazing. I've never been to Italy before but it looked and felt just how I've always imagined it would be. Our waitress, Holly, was an absolute delight. Not only did she put up with my dad's puns and dad jokes, but she also dished out some of her own. (Yes, I see what I wrote and I stand by my pun). The food was, for lack of a better term, fanfreakingtastic! Oh boy. I got the Chicken Princess. It had my mouth watering just from reading the description. Perfectly cooked chicken breasts with asparagus, yellow pepper, and mozzarella melted on top with a white wine demi-glace sauce and Fettucini Alfredo. I don't even like asparagus or yellow peppers, but the dish was SO good I ate them anyway. It's rare that I find a dish so delicious that I save half of it on purpose JUST so I can have it again the next night, yet that's EXACTLY what I did. As I mention the first time I went back the next day as I just had to try there FILLET MIGNONETTE ALLA JOHN, hey I figured I couldn't go wrong right? Well I'll tell you it truly didn't disappoint one bit! It was delicious beyond delicious. When I was done that plate was so clean they gave me a discount since it didn't have to be washed (just joking of course). And to top it all off, stupid me, the first time I didn't even think about ordering an espresso, great beans and perfect head. We took my mum out for her 90th Birthday. There were 9 of us. I wish I could given Casa Palo more than 5 stars. The owner greets you at the door, and our table is ready to go. We had a great spot a bit away from the crowd perfect lighting. And we didn't bother anyone with our laughing and crazyness. The service was just amazing. Holly, our server was so amazing. Just the right amount of time between courses. She gave us lots of time for opening presents. And now the food, well I can't say enough. 9 people 9 different dishes, all so delicious, prepared perfectly. All steaming hot, no one waited for anything. This restaurant charges way too much for what you're actually getting! I ordered a seafood linguine for $32. They used imitation crab meat and frozen "seafood". I'd rather not think about what I was eating. The only thing that was decent was the lobster tail. My fiance ordered the filet mignon, the dish comes with a baked potato, he asked for an upgrade to the "loaded" potato for $4. which ended up being a potato with cheese and chives and a little bit of bacon. The filet mignon was good. Everything just seemed unjustifiably overpriced. I eat at fantastic restaurants and am willing to pay money for GOOD food, not this. read more

I used to come here often years ago. I got back to Cornwall now and decided to walk over from the BW Hotel and have dinner here again. Nothing really has changed and that is actually a good thing. This is the best restaurant in town, for sure! Service is great and food is excellent. It might seem a bit pricey but definitely worth the money. Casa Paolo used to be one of my family's favourite places to have a nice dinner out years ago. We decided that we hadn't gone there in awhile so we figured it was time to head back. The interior of the restaurant had not changed much. Still very nice inside. One interior wall had been redone with stone. A nice touch. Overall the decor and atmosphere is terrific here. Our server Wendy was great. Very friendly and helpful telling us the specials and explaining several menu items. She checked on us often made the experience that much more enjoyable. She must have overheard my sister say she was starving because she even offered to start our appetizer before taking the full food order. A nice example of going above and beyond I thought. As for the food, we went all out. The appetizer we ordered to start was a munchie platter which had lots of deep fried goodness. Cheese sticks, zucchini sticks, onion rings and deep fried mushrooms. Exactly what you would expect. All decent but nothing outstanding. After that I had a starter Caesar salad. Again, I found it to be average. Nothing spectacular but OK. For the main course I ordered seafood linguine in Alfredo sauce. The portion size was perfect for me but may be a bit small if you're really hungry. I will say however it was packed with shrimp and crab. I found they went a tad light on sauce which made it a bit dry but still tasty and the noodles were cooked nicely. For dessert I decided to try the Tiramisu which was pretty good too. Not overly sweet with just enough of a coffee taste that was not over powering. The cost of the meal and dessert were a bit steep but not outlandishly high. Overall, I'm happy we went back and had another meal at Casa Paolo. I would consider the food average at a slightly higher price than usual. The service and atmosphere however were top notch and for those reasons alone I would definitely come back but I wouldn't make it a restaurant I visit regularly. read more

Caterina was able to seat us at a booth after we requested a table change....made our evening. Excellent food from start to finish. We had heard rave reviews from a neighbour about the special $40 for 2 people at Casa Paolo and decided to try it for ourselves. Our waiter was very quick to arrive at our table to ask for our drink order - too quick! We had literally sat down and hadn't had the time to even pick up the drink list or menus to even look at the offerings. We found the selections for the special not quite what we were looking for, so decided to order from the regular menu. I ordered the 10 oz strip loin steak, medium, with roasted potatoes and vegetables with a ceasar salad to start, and my partner ordered the 10 oz strip loin, medium rare, and 3 shrimp with baked potato and vegetables and a bowl of beef barley soup to start. Our salad and soup were quick to arrive, but were disappointing in flavor to say the least. My salad seemed to be made from older, partially wilted romaine lettuce as it lacked that beautiful crunch that you normally associate with a ceasar, and it had that big chunk of the base of the lettuce tossed in with the rest - I hate that! The soup was quite pale in colour for a beef based soup, and the taste was only improved with the liberal application of salt and pepper. Again, our waiter was attentive, but seemed to be having an off day attitude-wise. Our mains arrived, and while my steak looked good and was cooked correctly, I was dismayed to see 7 little pieces of potato - the equivalent of 3.5 parisienne potatos - as my side portion. The steak had little to no seasoning on it, so the salt and pepper shakers were put to use again. The vegetables were tough and tasted like they were older produce, especially the broccoli. My partner's steak was also under-seasoned, and cooked more thoroughly than my own - more medium well. We pointed this out to our waiter, and he promptly took it back to the kitchen to have another one cooked. When the plate returned, it seemed that the chef had simply tossed the new steak on the plate with no care for presentation, since it was now partially draped over the baked potato and covering the vegetables. When it was cut into, the inside was rare and cold. By this time, we were so disappointed that we just didn't have the heart to send it back again for a third try. When our bill arrived, I paid with a credit card using the portable machine they brought to the table, and when the transaction was completed, our waiter withdrew it from the machine and TOSSED it down in front of me rather than passing it back to my hand, or placing it on the table with care. At that point I wished I could revoke the 20% tip I had given him - after all, it wasn't his fault that the kitchen had made such a mess of the food - but his one action had just lowered my satisfaction with his service to the 5% range. We left. And will not be returning again. read more

We were in Cornwall this past weekend for a family reunion. We wanted to take my brother and sister-in-law out for dinner and they recommended Casa Paolo. We had a reservation and were greeted nicely when we arrived. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful. That was the good part. We ordered drinks and then appetizers and our meal. We waited forever for our food. Everyone who came into the restaurant after us received and finished their meals before we were served. The manager went to every table to see how things were and to chat to the other customers but completely neglected our table. I mentioned to the waitress that we had been waiting for a very long time and that everyone else had been served. She told me that because we had ordered two different appetizers it delayed our meal. Our appetizers were mozza sticks and escargots! Really!! how complicated is it to deep fry mozza sticks. Our food finally arrived an hour and a half after we entered the restaurant. The food was just ok, nothing special and certainly not worth waiting an hour and a half for. My brother spoke to the manager and got absolutely no apology. I certainly will never return there and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more
