Mostly good food. Hit and miss. When it's good it's good. When it's bad, it's terrible. The atmosphere is absolutely fabulous... but the lighting is horrible. They apparently don't have a heating system. We have been here a few times in the winter and I have always worn my coat every time I've come. It's freezing inside here. Ordered a couple drinks which were quickly delivered and we prepared to order...ordered the veal saltimbocca and manicotti - was told that it comes all carte and adding spaghetti is an upcharge.... Opted for a two person antipasto in lieu of a side with dinner. Waitress told us she was disappointed that dinners were served that way and if she were running the place things would be different. Antipasto was nice. - a good mix of meats, cheese and olives. Manicotti was okay - Veal was good. Prices are up - sides included in meal prices would be better. read more

My boyfriend and I were in Potsdam for his work and was looking for a place to eat for dinner. It was a Monday evening and lots of places were closed. Came across Mama Lucia on Yelp and thought we could try out their pizza. I'm so glad we did bc the pizza was really good. We ordered a large pizza (half Capri and half Palermo) and a half size of Caesar salad. The pizza came out perfect when we picked it up. It was hot and they were able to give us takeout boxes to use as plates. When we got back to the hotel, pizza was still hot. They put a good amount of cheese on the pizza. I liked the Capri over the Palermo because it had a nice flavor of both basil and garlic. The Caesar salad was good too as they put a lot of shredded parmesan cheese and included these baked bread topped with cheese and garlic (their version of croutons). Inside of the restaurant was also very nice and it was nice to see people trickling in at opening. There were lots of tables and the ambiance was cozy. I recommend this restaurant as we were happy with our pizza and salad. read more

I've visited Mama Lucia's a few times over the past year or so, and always come away with the same conclusion. The food and service is good, which is why I go. Ambience is okay, a little noisy and FOR GODS SAKE people, install A/C! I refuse to eat here during the summer-ridiculous. Now for the downside, although portions are large I feel prices are high, especially considering everything is a la carte. I'm surprised they don't charge for bread! Case in point-caprese salad, FOUR slices of tomato and a ball of fresh mozzarella, $15. My main complaint, however, is the outrageous charge of $8.99 for a small side order of pasta (already having paid $20-25 for a meal) and tonight we were charged an extra $4 for the Alfredo sauce-say what!? They are now adding insult to injury by charging a "convenience fee" of 3.25% for using a credit card. So that added another $4 to the bill. Grand total-just under $150 for two drinks, ONE salad, two entrees, a side order of pasta and SAUCE, one takeout entree, tax, tip, and CONVENIENCE fee! Pretty steep, I'd say, especially since we live in the middle of nowhere. This dinner would cost a lot less in Buffalo or Syracuse, where there is a mom and pop Italian place on every corner and they don't rip people off! It's called competition, and this place could use some! read more

If I could give it a 0 I would. My family and I were excited to try this spot out. We were sat and the server came over took our drink and app order. When they came out the calamari was so salty we didn't eat much of it. I was told that the Carrozza tasted like mozzarella sticks and that was so wrong. It was mostly just breading with some weird seasoned coating. Dinner took a very long time to come out and when that did they were also not seasoned right. Way too much salt or no flavor the fettuccine Alfredo was not seasoned at all and the White Clam sauce pasta was so salty My husband couldn't eat it at all, he always eats his food (he hates wasting anything) My daughter's steak was so peppered she couldn't even eat hers without needing a drink, I had to find the server to ask for a drink refill. Awful experience on food and service. My daughter and I went to the bathroom and she was so nervous in there, that someone was watching her. I felt awful! And then when we got the bill (after they took two dinners off) was almost $200 with a $35 bottle of wine. On the bill it says food tax, alcohol tax and connivence tax. WTH!? We will never go back! My thoughts on this restaurant are complex. The staff was lovely; Hannah, you were awesome!!! That said, we received our food after one hour and fifteen minutes. One hour and fifteen minutes. In Long Island... you'd be out of business. So, I can only assume that in a town with a population the size of my street block, they can get away with this delay. Think I'm dragging? Okay. Try this; I was sweating buckets -- buckets!!! There is no AC! I mean... not even a table fan! We were sweating as if we had just walked out of the swimming pool. So... why the three stars? Their pizza was pretty darn good! My wife could not stop ranting and raving about how good the pizza was. The overall ambiance was nice and the decor was on brand for an Italian restaurant as well. We were able to get a pretty good conversation going, which was also lucky, because we are here here dropping off our daughter for college, we actually liked being able to have a nice chat. But under normal circumstances... HELL NO! My chicken parmigiana had a slight burnt taste, and we had to wait an extra fifteen or so minutes just to get parmesan cheese. Food lacked seasoning (as per my daughter's thoughts). So, if you want better pizza than Pizza Hut... this is the place to be. On the plus side, it is relatively inexpensive. That said, I'd have rather paid out of my eyeballs and gotten dynamite food than pay little and eats cardboard. read more

Been there 3 times and all three times my food was not edible. Once, I ordered linguine to be served spaghetti and told there was no linguine. An Italian restaurant without linguine??? Minutes later the manager came by and apologized and told me they had linguine. I canceled my order. We had our rehearsal dinner at Mama Lucia' for our October 2023 wedding and it was amazing! The staff did a great job making sure everyone was taken care of and having a good time, the food was delicious, and it was a really reasonable cost considering we were a group of 75! I would absolutely recommend for large-group dining! The manager who handles large group dining was incredible, so kind and organized and fun to work with. I came in from out of town and was given Mama Lucia's as a recommendation. We sat in the patio behind the building and it was quite nice. Even though there is a busy thoroughfare behind the restaurant, they have nice foliage around the patio that blocks the sight and sounds. My coworker ordered the Milan wood fired pizza, and I had the Cheri's lemon pesto chicken with a side of broccoli. We waited about an hour for our food, which is horrible. Despite that, our waitress, Alessandra, was very friendly and helpful. The lemon chicken was tasty with a light citrus flavor and capers. Unfortunately, the dish didn't come with many pieces of ravioli. It definitely needed more to compliment the amount of chicken you get. The side of broccoli was good, but it was huge and filled most of my to go plate. I understand the restaurant is family style, but it'd be nice if there was a smaller size serving available for veggies. My coworker demolished his pizza, so it must've been very good. Despite the very lengthy wait time, I would come back to eat here if I'm ever back in the area. read more

If you need a dark place this is it. It was dark inside but it's rustic and quaint. The big wood fired oven is the centerpiece of this lovely location. A simple menu with some delicious dishes such as mama's gnocchi with lobster chicken with artichoke hearts and mushrooms I a creamy Sherri sauce. That's a keeper! Italian staples done right and some awesome pizza creations. This is among the better joints in Potsdam. read more

Every time we are in the area we dine at Mama Lucia's. The restaurant is an old train depot and really neat inside. The service and attention to detail are appreciated. L.j. & the staff always take such good care of us. They even accommodate large takeout orders for our son's college baseball team when we play other schools in the zip code. Stopped here based on a recommendation from the front desk staff at our hotel in conjunction with the Yelp review. The menu looks very extensive but since there was a 2 for 1 special on pizzas that evening we decided to go with that. And considering we saw the brick oven and pizzas being tossed near our table, I blocked out further study of the menu. We both thoroughly enjoyed our pizzas and even the small size was too large for either of us to finish. Very tasty toppings and a very nice crust. Very nice ambiance in a repurposed train station. I'm town for work and came here for dinner, review worthy place. Ambience - no sign out front so was unsure if this was the place my gps told me to go. Tucked on a side street back behind some businesses. Yes, it's the place. The building looked like an old farm home and was very rustic (no not code for shabby chic). Inside tables white linen lined with white butcher paper. Nice decor and the centralized wood pizza oven is a sight to see. Food- they bring you fresh bread, and man the bread was good - soft inside flaky outside, worth every carb. Ordered the bowl of olives, again not disappointed. A big bowl of three different kind of olives. Caesar salad - too much dressing and dressing was bland, least favorite thing I had. Main dish was the lemon pesto chicken ravioli - very good and single portion was way more than enough for one. Ravioli was my favorite- overstuffed pillows of a great cheese/ricotta mixture. I would eat again but also would like to try other stuff feel like I could love something more. Lastly ordered cannoli - it came with two and they were out of this world, cannolis are a must. Service - attentive throughout, offered suggestions and accommodated my requests (needed things to go and stuff). server comes over and writes his/her name on the butcher paper so you know who's serving you, nice touch. They also bring water bottle to the table so you don't have to chase them down for refills constantly. I hope my work will bring me back to the area again, definitely would come back and look forward to getting the olives and cannolis again for sure. read more

Roller coaster of an experience. Pros: Bread was delicious, food came out quickly, lasagna was average. Cons: The waitress was unfriendly on the verge of rude. That experience was shared by the table next to us as we overheard several comments(easy to do as our backs were touching). They only have one, yes one option for salad dressing on their house salad. When I questioned why there were not additional options the waitress informed me that sometimes it gets very slow for days in a row and they would expire. Uhm ok? Hopefully that doesn't ring true for everything else we ate! Overall if the service had been better it would be borderline worthy of a 4 star review. Water offered without ice. I like ice. Warm bread was devoured by my twin son 17yo's. Ceasar salad was good; not sure if it was anchovie dressing. We liked the salad a lot. My linguini with a dark meatsauce was steaming hot and flavorful. Had to ask for grated cheese and red pepper flakes. Server was nice but kind of emotionless. Sons ate the lemon chicken with cheese ravioli and stuffed shells. This was good, not great. That sat us right next to another table when they could have given us a buffer. Prob 3.5 stars re food and but other factors limited my enthusiasm. read more

The whole train station appeal wore off really quick. Our first time visiting this establishment and were thrilled to be eating in an old train station....wholly coolness!! Once seated the coolness started to dwindle. Our tables were set with a plain sheet of torn paper (I guess for children to color on?) and a few crayons were placed near our salt/pepper shaker. The waitress after about 10 minutes came and wrote her name on the table paper and finally took our drink order. The sodas we ordered were flat and after waiting for so long to order our meal started to notice the decor wasn't so appetizing. The light fixtures were literally covered in dust/cob webs! I think it would have been more suitable for a haunted theme house restaurant? We finally got to order our meals (about 25 minutes from when we sat down) and I being allergic to foods ordered a dish without an ingrediant listed on the menu. 20 minutes later (almost one hour from when we sat down) our meals arrived and low and behold mine was served WITH the ingrediant I had specifically ordered without. The food was brought back to the kitchen were I had to wait an adittional 10 minutes to get a new plate. About 1/2 way through eating the waitress came over and apologized and then claimed the cook didn't understand and simply scooped out the ingrediant I was allergic too, instead of making a whole new plate!? Well fortunately for me there wasn't enough of it in my plate to cause a reaction. Pros: ummm the crayons were new Cons: wait times horrible!! Decor needed a good cleaning. Food was okay, not great! Ambience and fresh bread is the only reason why I'm giving 2 stars. Calamari tasted old ( clean your fryer). Salads came out with our entrees, which all came out before we were finished our calamari. Listen man... chicken riggies is supposed to be in a spicy cream tomato sauce, not just plain marinara with cherry peppers. If your going to say "Utica chicken riggies" on your menu, then make it right. The cherry peppers also were old, they tasted rancid and they left the peppers stems in the pasta. The pasta also was old tasting ( again fellas, change your pasta water) now the service...this girl couldn't be bothered. She didn't course break our meal (like I stated above), once the food was brought out ( not even by her) she didn't check on us not even once, and worst of all didn't clear our plates. Just left them in front of us. To me that's plain rude. Was she mad because we didn't eat the awful food? Maybe. Mad because we didn't want a box when she asked if we needed one? Maybe. Still, clear the plates. Still left 20 on 84. Was such an upsetting meal... just another awful st Lawrence county restaurant. Sad 1844 house is closing. Honestly the only legit spot. read more

In town to visit one of the colleges. Lovely space, lovely waitstaff. Mediocre food overall. Menu is standard Italian American basically frozen in time since the 1970's so we thought how bad can it be? Pizza we ordered had a too-greasy crust and no sauce Gardeneira pasta entree was too salty and did not mention that there would be meat in it - we were looking for a veg item. Eggplant parm was the most positive - not presented the way I was used to growing up in NYC, but it was nice and hot when it came out w/just the right amount of breading on it.
