We sat on the patio on a beautiful evening. Jose was delightful as our server and we had a great time. The wine and food were excellent, charred Octopus, Gem salad, duck breast special and the sole. My date was a bit bummed out with the Sole which had tarragon in the sauce but not listed on the menu. He is not a fan and probably expected dill? and the sole was maybe just a tad overcooked so it didn't seem as delicate for a Dover Soul. It was however still good just not stunning for $75.00. Nonetheless we still had an amazing evening , Had a great chat with Emmanuella who was a doll (wykyn!) and great people watching. Even snapped some pictures that ended up being a fun little sidebar. We were out celebrating us and have been wanting to try Casa Pernoi for quite some time. There are just so many amazing restaurants, but Italian is always a fav of mine. Located in Birmingham, Casa Pernoi is most certainly a local favorite. We ended up ordering craft cocktails and a bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal. We decided on a specialty appetizer made with pasta shells stuffed with duck, Lamb Ragu, and a Chicken entree. These dishes were AMAZING! My two favorite things lamb & pasta; you just can't go wrong! -When I made our reservation the woman on the phone almost made me want to cancel cause she seemed super bothered and snobbish. I don't care if you're a nice restaurant bad customer service is just in poor taste and is super unprofessional and unappealing but we went forward with the reservation despite her poor attitude -They give you a huge bread basket upon sitting down, the pasta is homemade, the carpaccio was great for sharing but stuck to the plate and you had to scrape it off. I had the truffle pasta which was good(umami flavor dominate) but for being $40 you hardly taste the truffles they are basically just a fancy garnish cause I could hardly pick up on the flavor. So I wouldn't say its really worth the price cause what your getting is mushroom pasta, good but not worth $40 -overall good food & our waiter was great but the hostess attitude from the phone call was rather off putting and makes me want to support a business where the treat you right from the very start read more

Fantastic dining experience here for our 10th wedding anniversary. We had some of the cocktails - espresso martini (good), spicy Margarita (great), and la viola (too perfumey, did not enjoy). The bread basket at the beginning of the meal is absolutely the best I've ever tried. We had the cauliflower appetizer which was really good and spiced nicely. The wedge salad was ok, nothing special. For entrees we shared the mafaldine pasta with mushrooms and truffles (very good) and the steak siciliano (also very good). The 2 sides we ordered were not worth the price tag. The mushrooms said "chili and garlic" on the menu, i tasted neither. The potatoes were so basic and boring and I think we only ate 2 of them. Lastly we shared 2 desserts, the pistachio and ricotta pie and the tiramisu. Both were just ok to me. We left very full and happy. My one gripe is that they add a 3% credit card fee to your bill which seems normal at small mom and pop type places but after spending $250 on dinner, it seems petty that they add that on the bill without letting you know. When I first walked in I was not greeted by the host instead I was ignored. The manager was standing right next to her not acknowledging me. Then I was not asked if I wanted to sit outside or inside despite it being cold out. I was then given a happy hour menu and told that the dinner options would not start for another hour which was not stated anywhere. Even with a limited menu I decided to give them a chance. Bummer. Great location, great environment, good drinks, average food, below average service. The menu has great variety and the potential to be great. But when something as simple as the tagliatelle in the bolognese isn't al dente, the broccolini is bitter, and the veal is overcooked... it's a real shame. $43 for an overcooked piece of veal scallopini that isn't pounded thin, may have some breadcrumbs sticking to it, some mozzarella on top, and a sweet sauce around it. I'll let you decide whether you think that's worth your time or not. Service was strange. Waitress had an incredible knack and sense of timing for interrupting conversation abruptly, all while having nothing of significance to say whatsoever. Was interested in going back before I had even gone there to begin with because the menu is right up my alley but after having gone, I will not be back. The potential is there and the City of Birmingham is hurting for a really good Italian restaurant, but the current execution is poor. Damn shame. read more

Honestly I wanted to love Casa Pernoi but ended up not having a very good experience. We made reservations for 3 on a Saturday night and ended up being seated outside. Our table was against a wall and one of the seats was a bench that was too tall for the table. My fiancée sat on it and had to hunch over to eat her dinner. Our waiter told us due to lack of staffing, we had to order everything at once. The table next to us had a different waiter who we overheard explaining the menu and letting them order their courses separately at their own leisure. We also saw every other table being brought a basket of fresh bread that we were never offered. We also mentioned it was our first time here, but were never offered any suggestions on the menu. Not a good experience with service at a restaurant that you'd expect it for the price. We ordered the meatball appetizer which was actually delicious and probably the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. The chicken Parmesan was a little tough and the breading all came off when trying to cut. Sals chicken Parmesan is much better. The bolognese and the Cacio e Pepe were fine. I ordered the "crispy" potatoes and they were the worst thing I had by far. Just a bowl of mini potatoes that seemed microwaved and pressed with a fork and drizzled with 3 pieces of parsley before brought to the table. Very disappointing for $13. A little effort would have been nice. Overall, the outdoor area is nice if you don't get seated on the bench. The food is mostly average with some exceptions for the better, some far worse. Service is hit or miss. For the price, absolutely not worth it. read more

We had no reservation on a chilly Saturday night. But we were able to secure two seats at the bar. Bar staff was super friendly and know what customer service is all about. We started with two vodka martinis and ordered the Blue Point Oysters on the half shell. Whom ever is cleaning the oysters knows what they are doing. They were perfect!! We then split a Caesar salad and shared some bread. The bread was fresh and sooo goooood. The butter was whipped, which to me is a sign that they really care about your dining experience. We had two pastas the shrimp in cream sauce and the mushroom which were both amazing. After sampling some aperitif's we settled on a frangelico and a limoncello. Very disappointed. We've celebrated our anniversary today at CP! Cocktails and wine we choose were good. But the food!!!! So disappointed! But we enjoyed the pumpkin soup BUT our main dishes were a big disappointment! My husband had the branzino which was very salty and I had the Campanella al tartufo (pasta with black truffle) - the dish was not what you should expected, the truffle were just blend, no taste, the noodles were a bit overcooked. This was a very disappointing dinner as it was our anniversary. We ordered tiramisu which was ok, but I think all over, I don't think we will come back again.
