Such a mixed experience. I'll start by saying that the food was very good. I ordered the single chile relleno plate with ranchero beans and my friend asked for exactly the same meal. We requested the cilantro rice, but the waitress said that they were out. She was very nice and engaging and we liked her - it would have been wonderful to see her again, but we were treated to a veritable parade of servers and food runners... Reasonably soon, two of our party of three had our meals. The single chile relleno I had ordered magically turned into two. My friend who had ordered the same meal? He had nothing - nada. Time passes - 10 or 15 minutes. I should say here that by this time we are the ONLY table in the place - it's 7:45 pm or so. We flagged down a server and pointed out that I had two chile rellenos and had only ordered one and that he had no meal. We suggested that they just cancel his meal and bring us another plate so we could just split my meal, but they said "no, no - we'll take care of it!!". The next thing that happened was a server brought us another portion of beans and THREE small, empty plates. Huh?? We again suggested that they simply cancel his order, but again they demur - "oh, no - we'll fix it!". The story gets longer, believe it or not. Eventually, instead of the single chile relleno plate he ordered, like my order, his turned into a two relleno plate. I don't know whether there was a language barrier in the kitchen or what. It's a nice enough restaurant and the staff was friendly, even if they were a little less than competent. When I got the bill, I found that even through we had each had one drink, they billed us each for two. Once the error was pointed out, they corrected it. I'm at a little bit of a loss to understand what went wrong - everyone seemed to speak and understand English perfectly, but what should have been a pleasant dinner turned into a ridiculous series of events of Shakespearean complexity (I have left some out in the interest of brevity) over a LONG period of time. And it's not like they were busy - we were the only customers. It was just astonishing. Even though the food was good, I can't recommend Casa Ramos, unless you have plenty of time on your hands and a very good sense of humor. read more

We really enjoyed our experience. The portions were quite large. The food was super yummy. Everything tasted like it was a family recipe that had been passed down. The waitresses were very attentive to us both making sure our needs were met but not being intrusive. We loved the decor. There were family pictures on the walls and hand painted murals. We went to Casa Ramos and was seated across from this homeless man who was actively exhibiting textbook schizophrenic behaviors. Initially, I was more than a little annoyed in terms of this placement as there were other places that we could have been seated. I did end up paying for this gentleman's dinner as I felt bad for him after listening to his dialogue throughout dinner. The service was prompt and efficient, and the servers were attentive and kept bringing plenty of chips/salsa, and refills. It is not the best Mexican place in town and is a bit "Tex-Mex," in flavor, and tend to be overpriced compared some of the other options in town. read more

We were snowstorm refugees during a May 4 blizzard on CA 44 from Redding. We had driven just past Shingletown when the snow and roads became dangerous. After turning around and heading back to Redding, and hoping to take CA 36 home, we realized we would have to overnight in Red Bluff. We had a fantastic meal at this restaurant. The food is fresh. No microwave offerings. I wish I had taken a picture of my food before I dove in and devoured it. Lovely decor, not the prevailing cheesy Mexican interiors so often seen.. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of ambiance in my dining experiences!! I had the carnitas and my husband had the Tres amigos and topped it off with fried ice cream. The service was exceptional. Although we would love to have slept in our own beds, this little respite from our hectic day was a blessing in disguise. Oh, btw their margaritas are huge.. at least 20 oz. Very disappointed. Not sure what's going on but the energy of the servers were draining. You could feel the morale and negativity. The prices are extremely high as well. I love to tip and I couldn't find it in my conscience to do so. So much to say but in short... after 30 minutes of waiting to order (no it wasn't busy) on arrival of food the plates were delivered and waiter immediately walked off and never returned. We stopped by on our way passing from Seattle back home to L.A. and this was pretty much the only place to have a decent sit-down meal. We were quickly seated and you could easily see that this was a favorite place for locals. The food was standard Mexican with very fair prices. We had a party of 7 and we ordered a little bit of a variety. Most items were tasty with only a few being either standout or sub-par. The standout dish was the steak plate that was on special. The grilled flank steak was tender and served with whole grilled green onions (my favorite). The sub-par dish was the tostada as it was a little plain and seemed to have more lettuce than any other dish. Stopped in here on our way north, these people are very nice, attentive and friendly! I like coming in here, my water glass is never empty as well as the fresh salsa and warm chips. Great Mexican food located in Red Bluff! They have a large menu with burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tamales, etc. The price is a little more expensive compared to Taquerias, since most dishes are $10 or up. The complimentary chips and salsa was very good and addicting. The chips was hot and crispy. The salsa had a little kick to it. I decided to order 2 pork enchiladas with mexican rice. The rice was very good. I was expecting the pork to be a bit crispy like carnitas, but it was very tender. Instead of the normal red enchilada sauce, my dish had the green sauce, which was still good. Overall, Casa Ramos has good food and service. OK my fellow Latino Gringo's. I'm not going to get into the cliche of things but I am a native of Los Angeles and I hate the word authentic! This place is well-mixed with Gringo/Mexican style food. That being said, we had a few dishes and everything was tasty, the carnitas was moist and not dry or hard and the shredded beef was moist with flavor. What I really liked is the things that we got that were fried we're not greasy and fried perfectly and not overcooked. Yes, I am a fan if giving a 4 star review is what that means. It is simoly good homestyle Mexican food and hits what Im craving when I am in N. California. I generally get the Carne Asada which is delicious however, I have tried their Fish tacos and they too are awesome! If your traveling along I-5 specifically north of Chico etc. and looking for a great place off Interstate in communities like Red Bluff, Redding, Willows, Corning or Yreka for instance ( they have other locations I think ) I recommend giving them a try.
