This is definitely a neighborhood joint and not a place to go out of your way but it gets the job done. I will say that the drinks and bar program have outpaced for food for a while now. I love dropping by for a cocktail but there's been a series of changes to the menu with it appearing to get smaller. I recommend the carnitas and shrimp tacos for sure though. Stopped by with a friend to grab a quick bite while in the area. We didn't have to wait for seating. They have a backyard patio seating area, which was really nice considering it was beautiful outside. The food was tasty. Guacamole was fresh and chips crispy. I liked the fried chicken taco the most. The chicken was Crispy but yet not dry and well seasoned. The fish taco is sold at market price. I had high expectations. Crispy fry on the fish, but not in a good way. A bit dry really. Our server was excellent. Made a recommendation for my drink that I would have never thought to try on my own. I had the "Coconut mezcal spicy margarita". My partner and I have been in JP for several years and have visited Casa Verde several times. This restaurant is neither at the top nor the bottom of our list of favorites... it's reliably decent food. We have ordered the nachos recently and enjoyed them, except for the last 20% of the dish which was very soggy. The drinks are fantastic. If you sit at the bar there is never pressure to drink and they spend time trying to get you exactly what you want even if they are super busy. The waiter actually put it on an empty cup, the heck, and told me "thats how they serve the limes". The beef barbacoa taco was served too with a lot of grease. I stopped by yesterday evening around 6 PM with my 7-month-old son and sat on the outdoor patio. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired and felt passive-aggressive from the very start. Here are a few examples that stood out and made the experience frustrating: 1. I asked to change the rim of my margarita from sugar to salt just a few seconds after the server input the order. I understand that was my oversight, but his reaction was noticeably over the top and disproportionate to the small request. 2. I asked to hold onto a menu in case I decided to order a main dish later. He refused, saying they were "low" on menus and didn't want to run out. That may be true, but the way he said it came across as unnecessarily curt and passive-aggressive. 3. My son's stroller was positioned next to the menu stand, with plenty of space to return menus without issue. Oddly, the server leaned heavily over it and pushed into the stroller while putting the menus back. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that it was accidental, but it felt careless since my son was obviously sleeping. 4. I started to wonder if maybe I was just reading things wrong, but then I observed how he treated the couple at the next table. When they asked if there was a house wine he recommended, he dismissively said, "No, this is more of a mezcal place." After an awkward pause, he eventually listed off the house wines they actually had -- something he could've just led with. 5. Later, the same couple tried to place their order as he passed by, and he told them he couldn't take it because he didn't want to "overwhelm the kitchen." Again, I'm not a server, so perhaps there's some validity to that, but it sounded absurd and unprofessional when said out loud. Overall, the server's behavior embodied the worst kind of "Masshole" stereotype -- complete with the backwards Bruins hat. Maybe he was having a bad day, but based on other reviews mentioning similarly passive-aggressive experiences, it seems to be a recurring issue. We have been coming to Casa Verde for years now. I love this restaurant! On our most recent visit, we started with fresh guacamole and chips. After, we had the carnitas tacos which are slow-roasted pork shoulder, queso sauce, salsa verde, radish, onion, pickled jalapeno, pepitas, and crema. I also had the beef barbacoa taco with chimichurri, queso fresco, and crispy shallots, and the fried brussel sprout tacos with pomegranate, crema, and salsa verde. My partner had the fried chicken torta which is a buttermilk-brined fried chicken sandwich and almond mole aioli, chipotle aioli, homemade bread, and butter pickles. The cocktail menu at Casa Verde is great! We had two types of the Casa Margarita including the mango-guava and classic cocktails. I decided to order the loaded patatas bravas and elote to avoid the disappointment of having bad tacos. However, I was blow away by the explosion of flavors! The elote had a creamy salsa verde that I could figure out what it had, except that I really like it. The melted queso on the elote was fresh and tasted Central American.
