    Wings!

The prices may be low but the food is anything but cheap. The second we were greeted by the kind faces of the staff, I knew I was in for one of the best meals of my life. The flan delights. The refried beans and rice are traditional but far from ordinary. $6 for 8 of the most crispy and juicy wings I have ever had. Mango juice that makes you remark on just how wonderful a fruit the mango can be. The wonderful service and cozy decor make you feel at home. Do not skip a chance to have some of the best food in JP!

We ordered the carne asada and the steak Veracruz both delicious, much better than other Mexican style restaurants in the area. They also offer a few different Central American beers. The service was good, you can tell it is a family run place. We will definitely be back.

    Apple soda! Yum.

The place was empty when we arrived. My boyfriend jokingly said "I rented out the entire place for you". Lol! Love it. They were playing Spanish music. Obviously, I knew the lyrics to every song because I'm THAT Mexican. Haha. Our server was this sweet little old man with a limp. He suggested a dish to try, we did and were happily surprised. The shrimp ceviche was prepared differently than what I am used to. I would call it more of a cocktail. Still tasty. But would not order it again. As for my meal, the carne asada plate. Delicious central. I will say, they could have gotten a tad bit lighter on the salt. (Sidenote: I don't use salt in my cooking so any amount of salt will probably be too much salt for my palette). Still, i finished my meal and was very well satisfied. I also had the apple flavored soda and it took me all the way back to when I lived in Mexico. Yum! Cute lil place.

A local mexican restaurant near the heart of Jamaica Plain. I love this place, and frequent it quite a bit. They have an expansive menu and prices are reasonable. My favorite thing about this restaurant is the decor and atmosphere. This place is dim lit, spacious, and clean and the service is on point. I ordered the Chimichangas and the bean soup. Chicken was slightly overcooked and I found the portion to be slightly small. However, overall was satisfied. Id reccomend this place for a romantic dinner or dinner alone. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!

The restaurant was good but the owners need to get back to the basics. Great service but the quality isn't the same

12/15/19 Update:…read more I've been here more times than I can count. Have shared photos with my family in LA, who drool when they see the food (and are "so happy" for me because I've found a single solitary gem of Mexican food in Boston). The elotes are indeed BOMB. Perfectly grilled corn that is, again, very reasonably priced. (Keep your $14 "tapas", Colin - we ain't got time for 'em.) The carnitas plate was heavenly. Love their thick fresh corn tortillas that come with the taco plates. The chicken, carne asada, and carnitas burritos are everything I go to be dreaming about after I cry myself to sleep after eating at Anna's or any other "Mexican food" place with Chad & Co. in Boston. I've read some of the other reviews on here since I started going...and I think some people/customers/reviewers just don't "get" or appreciate Mexican food, not in its true form. My must try items: Carnitas taco plate. Shrimp quesadilla. Carne asada burrito (extra cheese is my pref). Keep doing great things, Chilacates! You're the hero Boston needs, even if we don't deserve you.

Employees are generally nice. Burritos are a good size and are tasty. Would recommend getting the red/green hot sauce on the side! They really add to the flavor. Overall a solid stop in JP.

For an early weekday dinner, I stopped by Viva Taco. It's easy to miss in an area replete with…read moreLatin American restaurants, though its location on a small intersection and its brightly painted exterior helped it stand out. The establishment itself doesn't have much space--just a small counter with bar seating by the window that fits about three people, and a single table that seats maybe six. It's definitely more of a take-out spot. I had the place to myself, so I ordered a chicharrón burrito ($13) and fried yuca ($7). I didn't expect to finish it all. The burrito came out in less than five minutes. The rice was well-salted and flavorful, the plantains added a surprising sweetness, and the chicharrones were satisfyingly crispy. The pico de gallo tasted extra fresh, and the tomato salsa had that slight grit you only find in freshly made versions. This burrito was also loaded--I was full after finishing it. One small nitpick: I would have preferred a pressed tortilla for a bit more heat and structure. About halfway through my burrito, the yuca fries arrived. They came topped with shredded lettuce and more of that fresh tomato salsa. The portion was generous here as well. None of that "five sticks of yuca for $10 at the upscale Latin American place" nonsense. Viva Taco is neighborhood comfort food at its finest--quick and filling without sacrificing flavor, and at a reasonable price point. It might not be perfect, but it's exactly the sort of place I wish every community had.

Also had the grilled chicken bowl which was excellent. This has probably earned go-to status for when we visit our friends in Rozzie. I will say my order took about 10-15 minutes longer than anticipated (timing provided online) Inside the restaurant is spacious and clean. Queso fries : 9/10 I added ground beef and tomatoes (and sour cream when I got home) because I wanted to remake the border fries from Taco Bell, and these were amazing. Fries could've been a little crispier and tomatoes spread out or on the side so the fries don't get soggier. Chicharron taco 4/10 Nothing special and pretty dry and lacking flavor Chicken shrimp steak fajitas 8/10 Everything was seasoned very well but the shrimp was a little over cooked. The rice Spanish rice they provide is flavorful along with the black beans. Grilled chicken bowl 7/10 Would've given it an extra star but the cheese melting and just sticking to everything drives me nuts. I also don't like having to cut up my own chicken, but that's a preference. ((I asked for the sour cream and pico on the side so they wouldn't be hot)
