I stopped by on a Friday evening. It was empty inside and I assumed they were closing. I ordered the elotes, beef empanadas and churros to go. Everything came out fairly quickly. Elotes - 6/10. The flavor was good/typical, but the corn was hard and the kernels were too short to get proper bites. Beef empanadas - 5.5/10. They were so small, dry and NOT worth the price. Churros- 7/10. They were basic and nothing special. Overall, the food wasn't impressive or worth the price. Although it's close by and convenient, I doubt I'll return. read more

Decent Mexican food and friendly service in a mom-and-pop shop! Came here for dinner and ordered a beef empanada to start. They accidentally brought us another table's order of 2 veggie empanadas which were good and they only charged us for the one. Then we got chips and guac. The guac was fresh, a bit salty, and the chips also fresh and crispy. I ordered the enchiladas for dinner and got green, red, and mole sauce. I enjoyed their mole and green sauce but didn't care for their red. The beans and rice served on the side were decent. Overall, nice experience and it won't break the bank. Beans were very salty and rice just didn't have a lot of flavor. My partner had the chicharron (pork belly) taco plate and he was pleased with the flavors. Had a lovely evening at Abuela's Table tonight! The staff was incredibly attentive and polite -- our waiter brought water over immediately and checked in very regularly. He took care of us very well! The food was delicious! We started with chips and guacamole for an appetizer. The portion was small for anything more than 2 people, but the guacamole was well-made. I had the Chicken Enchiladas with molé sauce. The sauce felt heavy at first, but I quickly realized it complimented the dish very well. I will definitely order this dish again in the future! One of the best meals we've had in the past few months! We got a reservation at Abuela's table for Fri night. When we reached, it was busy but not too crowded. We wanted to try some of their specialties and unique dishes so we got a few for the table- grasshopper tacos, cactus salad, fried plantains, shrimp tacos, and a side of Mexican rice. Everything was great!! First time trying grasshopper and we were pleasantly surprised. The way they make it, it's very crunchy and the seasoning has a tang to it. The cactus salad was also delicious. The dressing is quite sour, so beware. The shrimp tacos were delicious. It came with a bowl of beans, not sure why, but that paired much better with our side of rice which would've been dry on its own. Fried plantains kinda stole the show because they picked the plantains at the perfect stage, where they were just right in terms of texture and sweetness. Wait staff were attentive and the decor is colorful and cute. We had a nice long relaxing dinner and would love to be back. read more

We wanted to give this place a try as it's relatively new. We got the Chicken Enchiladas, Flautas de Pollo, Tamales, Elote, and Chicharron Tacos. The Flautas de Pollo were pretty good, albeit the chicken inside was a little dry. The Enchiladas were also good, as was the elote (though the corn was not a juicy or sweet as I typically prefer). The Tamales were decent, though again the meat was a bit dry; if i were to come again, I'd probably opt for the vegetarian ones. The chicharron was cooked really well and was yummy--crispy and juicy, but not tough. The black beans that came with most dishes were well seasoned and tasty. The service was ok, and the ambiance was ok (nothing spectacular, fairly nondescript). They do seem to have a feedback problem with their speaker system, which I noticed almost immediately (but others seemed not to), which was at times a bit annoying. We also got dessert, the churros and chocoflan. The churros were good, but we didn't care for the chocoflan; the flan was not great and the chocolate cake part was dense (but not in a fudgey delicious way). I was so sad about the loss of oriental de Cuba (previous restaurant in this location) I put off trying this place for a long time. Boy, do I regret my choices. I went with a group of 6 of us so got to sample many things. Everyone has positive reviews of their plates! I was impressed by the vegetarian options as well. They have a solid brunch menu in addition to the regular options. My favorite things were the tamale sampler and the Mexican coffee! The name of this place is SPOT ON! this is literally like going to eat to grandma's house - humble, homey, comforting food. Could it be better? Of course. But grandma doesn't have fancy ingredients in her kitchen, she just has love and her food is good. Mini tamales - 5 different flavors, all good, my favorite one being spicy chicken. The sweet corn and coconut ones are very unique. Arrachera Mexicana - the beef in this dish was the best thing I had - so tender, savory, with a touch of lime. On the other hand, the chilaquiles were pretty bland and greasy, not a fan. Elotes - really good! Loved the heavy addition of lime. Tacos al pastor - not the best looking and definitely need onion and cilantro on top, but somehow they were still delicious. I couldn't get enough of the rice either. It had the perfect texture. I've always liked chile rellenos and I know chiles en nogada are a whole other level special and this dish did not disappoint. BIRRIA TACOS Delicious. I wanted even more of the toppings they provide on the side (pickled onion, cilantro, etc). Hot sauce, limón, and the consomé took it to the next level. HORCHATA Yes, the horchata deserves it's own applause. As a Salvi, Mexican horchata doesn't typically blow me away. But this was the best horchata I've had in Boston. GO HERE. I visit Boston a few times a year and I've made it a requirement that I visit Abuela's Table and get the ensalada de nopal every time. This is my fourth meal here and it was incredible. The ensalada de nopal is incredibly flavorful, perfectly balanced -- I have to restrain myself from drinking the vinaigrette at the bottom of my plate. It is truly one of the best dishes I have ever eaten and it has been consistently stellar every time I've been here. We also got the tamale appetizer, 1 chicken, 2 pork, 1 corn and 1 coconut. It's a great value and comes with a little dish of black beans. My boyfriend got the arrechara Mexicana with chilaquiles. I got to try a few bites and it was delicious. The steak was tender, juicy, and had a smoky poblano flavor. We ate every bit of our food, not a crumb on the plate. The prices are extremely fair. They were a little busy tonight so it took a little while to have our order taken but the food came quickly, our drinks were refilled regularly, and our server was pleasant. I've been coming to Boston for about 10 years now and am usually underwhelmed by the food scene here, but this place is a gem. read more

From the nopales in mole verde, to the cochinata pibil, to the enchiladas with mole, to the tamale sampler, to the fluffy rice and flavorful beans that come as a side with the entrees, you can't go wrong. Not surprising given these are the folks behind Tu Y Yo- quality and flavor is the name of their game, and it translates well here. It's prepared and served with style and class by their classy Fernanda. Our favorites have been the mangonada drink of iced mango and spices .., yummy don't miss it. We love the cauliflower, avocado, fish, and csrne asada tacos. The tortillas are soft and flavorful. Black beans, queso fresco , guacamole perfect on the extra tortillas.
