I had heard about this place multiple times so since we were hungry and nearby we decided to check it out. Luckily grabbed a walk-in patio spot, and wow we were not prepared for how delicious this was going to be! Everything was on point, from the service, to food, drinks, & vibes. We got the lamb burger slider, patatas bravas, fluke crudo, and halibut. Then finished with the creamiest slice of cheesecake for dessert. The drink I got kinda tasted like a strawberry starburst, I loved it. The white sangria was really refreshing too. Wish we were a bit closer, as this would be a go-to spot.
Very trendy Spanish-ish restaurant in the heart of Jamaica Plain. Reservations are hard to get; the place is very small and very popular. The large patio is nice, but closed for the season. Our four top was given 90 minutes to dine. We ordered a paella so that took time, but they did try to push us out at the 90 minute mark. I get that. The paella was ok, but where was the crusty bottom? It just wasn't there. Spicing was nice and it all had good flavor. I'm just not sure $75 made it all work for me. It also came quicker than the 30-45 minutes they quoted; did they cut corners? We had an array of tapas, each was very good. Pricey yes. Sangria was tasty, but young. It needed a longer brew. Service was solid, but I think I knew more about the product than our server did. Be prepared to spend $60-75 per person.
Loved this place! Such a unique vibe, very cozy, and the food was absolutely incredible. Very accommodating to GF. There's also a bookstore/record store in the back which made the whole experience even more fun. One of my favorite spots in Boston now!
My friends and I had dinner at Tres Gatos and had a mostly wonderful time. Service was excellent, on time and not too much of a pest. She advised us on what plates to eat. We ordered the mushroom paella and six plates plus dessert. The paella was amazing, prepared perfectly. The plates were superb -- roasted carrots and halibut stood out as fantastic. Dessert was churros and were amazing! Great chocolate mole sauce. Small downside was a homeless man who panhandled every table on the patio. Not sure why staff did not ask him to leave.
We saw they just opened for brunch, wanted to try it out, and were not disappointed! The zucchini bread was sweet and delicious, as was the orange marmalade that came with it. I got the Eggs Benedict, and it was fantastic. Granted I don't eat them frequently, but I found the hollandaise really smooth (and buttery) and the eggs poached perfectly. The sprinkle of dill on top cur through the richness, and the bread soaked up all the yellow goodness. We also got the pancakes, which were super buttery with a nice crust. The chili syrup was spicy, so keep that in mind (but you can ask for plain syrup!) Our new favorite brunch spot - we will be back!
Wait whaaaaa???? How come I have not reviewed my fav bar/cafe/ record store? I am aging maybe!!!! RSD, their yard sales or stopping by in any random days are always bringing smiles. The cocktails are awesome and if u like sweeter drinks then probably ull find it hard not to like anything u order. Trying to make sure I dnt visit them every month.
" The food here is delicious but pricey " If you're not on a budget and want some delicious fresh food ; this is your spot. The churros are absolutely to die for . I had my share of churros but these are on another level. The other thing I love about this food is you can't taste the grease. Parking is difficult but manageable . This place has been here for awhile . We definitely will be back .
Absolute GEM of a spot in Jamaica Plain. Went here for a birthday dinner with friends and was very happy with the result. We grabbed a handful of tapas -- our favorites were the Papas Fritas and the stuffed dates. The olives and beet salad were also absolutely delicious! We all ordered drinks as well and they were great; my winter sangria was well balanced and I ended up ordering a second before leaving. The atmosphere was relaxed but still semi-formal. It is definitely an intimate space and the restaurant does a good job curating it as such. Our waitresses were really sweet and even brought a little birthday treat out for my partner. The record shop in the back was cute as well. Very happy with our experience here and would definitely recommend a visit!
The menu has definitely changed and possibly been shortened. A tapas restaurant without octopus makes me very sad. Unfortunately the service and presentations of certain dishes were not great. The patatas bravas were pretty bland and the two scoops of sauce just looked very underwhelming. The tortilla espanola is served similarly with sauce next to it and was also pretty bland. The grilled prawn definitely stood out and were amazing. I also had the red sangria which left some to be desired but was fine. Overall I was a bit disappointed in the drop in quality.
We went to Tres Gatos for dinner and we sat on the front patio. Luckily, we were able to get the larger table with comfortable chairs. I would have hated to sit at one of the smaller tables with those very uncomfortable chairs. The service was friendly and the food was satisfactory, but there's more to a dining experience than just those aspects. Trust in the recommendations given by your server and value for money are very important. There are a few things that really influence this review. Firstly, the pricing is way too high for what you are getting. I've eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants for less. The busboy asked if we wanted some bread, suggesting it would be good for soaking up the nice flavors from the mussels. Next thing we know, we're charged $8 for two slices of bread--that's outrageous. Having been to Spain three times, I can say that this cuisine is far from authentic and virtually carries no similarities beyond the names on the menu. Here's the kicker: I didn't understand what the 5% charge on my bill was for until after I tipped. When I opened the menu again, I saw they were charging 5% to give their kitchen staff a salary increase. Is this not the most insane thing you have ever heard of? Why am I paying for the kitchen staff's salary increase? You're the owner, you're already charging exorbitant prices--pay your employees properly and don't place this scam on your clients. That is absolutely absurd. Needless to say, I won't be dining here again in any hurry. It's definitely not worth it and very disappointing.
Great tapas spot! Came here for a date night and it did not disappoint. It's so cool and cozy inside with a bunch of high and low tables. We got seated right next to the kitchen so it was cool to see the food get made. Our server was nice and attentive. All of the food was delicious. We ordered the homemade focaccia, the shishito peppers, the marinated olives and the mussels. For drinks I got the Manhattan. After dinner we walked around the record store and picked up a few pieces. The person running the store was so cool and he played some music for us before we purchased anything. I can't wait to go again!
2.5/5. I really wanted to like this place. The food is ok, vibe is vibing- but the servers? Not so much. The vibe is chill, really small place. Plenty parking.

Our first dinner with our daughter and fiancée in Boston! They recommended Tres Gatos! Such a unique experience! Restaurant and bar with a book and record store!! Vinyl records!! Awesome music selection playing! Like Nina Simone! Tapas style menu! We each ordered a couple and shared! Everything was so flavorful! Highest compliments to the Chef for the vegetable paella! And the cheesecake! Enjoyed the cocktail! Loved exploring the back room with the books and records! Appreciate the postcard! Loved the 3 cat decor throughout! We really enjoyed our visit to Tres Gatos. It's a small, intimate space, but it's cute inside. We made a last minute reservation so we were sat at the high top by the kitchen. The table was a bit tight, but we made it work. Our server was kind. We started with chorizo and cheese. The chorizo was similar to meat from A charcuterie board, so for the price, we would definitely skip ordering the cheese and chorizo. Other than those 2 dishes, we would order everything again! The potatoes, carrots and mushrooms were bomb! They were each so good. I'd order all 3 again. The chicken was also really good. The potatoes tapas is the same as the potatoes that come with the chicken, so no need to order both, unless you love potatoes. that being said, the potatoes were so good that we couldn't stop eating them. We'll definitely come back since this is in the neighborhood. I recommend giving it a try. read more
Tres Gatos is a unique spot - located inside a renovated JP home. It has an intimate, cozy, and moody feel making it a perfect date night spot. I love the incorporation of many of the homes original elements - keeping the fireplace, stocked bookshelves, true to name cat decor sprinkled throughout. One of the coolest parts is in the back corner is an active record store you can browse before/after dinner. The restaurant serves unique cocktails and tapas. The standouts for us was the fluke crudo - which was salty and sweet, and very refreshing - and the lamb burger - loveddd the chimchurri sauce. A unique spot certainly worth a try!! read more

Great tapas spot! Came here for a date night and it did not disappoint. It's so cool and cozy inside with a bunch of high and low tables. We got seated right next to the kitchen so it was cool to see the food get made. Our server was nice and attentive. All of the food was delicious. We ordered the homemade focaccia, the shishito peppers, the marinated olives and the mussels. For drinks I got the Manhattan. Quaint & cozy, tapas restaurant & wine bar. First off, I've been here multiples times, and every time staff has been so friendly. Accommodating, they check in (but not excessively) and they just seem cool without being pretentious - which matches the vibe of the restaurant itself. Food is great quality. Must try's: the churros (best churros I've had on the east coast), the chickpeas fritters (basically fried hummus, so creative) and their garlicky shrimp (juicy and I could put that garlicky sauce on anything and be happy). They've got records hiding in the back too, after you eat, check it out! read more
The service is amazing here and so are the vibes! Unfortunately, the food was disappointing compared to our go to toro in Boston. Price wise it's comparable to Boston prices so I was expecting better quality & taste. We had drinks (Pom cat & Sangria) and the Pom cat was excellent, the sangria was fine. Patatas bravas - Good. Highly enjoyed the chutney type red sauce that came with this dish. Steak tartare - Also good, would eat this again but not a must have. Mussels - They were a mix of okay & not fresh so this dish could have been a lot better. We didn't eat all of this because it was a bit icky but also didn't want to send it back Steak - COULD have been amazing. The steak was well done? Why? Assumed medium rare but we were quite wrong! It was so over cooked, so sad. The chimichurri was to die for. I wouldn't come back for the food but would have drinks if I was in the area. read more

Came here for a date night dinner and I loved it! Would overall give a 4.5 so I rounded up to 5 stars. Easy to find parking and my partner and I really enjoyed the cozy yet trendy vibe inside. They were playing great music as well. Service was standard and friendly. We opted to go for more tapas over fewer tapas alongside a paella at the server's recommendation, and this is the way to go unless you have a larger party. Spanish tortilla - I loved this dish although some bites of it were definitely oversalted. The flavors were rich and tasty, though, so I would still recommend this if you're a fan of strong flavors. Scallops - absolutely stole the show! Sweet, fresh, and cooked to perfection - paired really well with the salsa verde. Steak - I was a little worried when they didn't ask how we wanted the steak cooked; however, they came out medium rare just as I like my steak. Good portions, well-seasoned, and juicy. Salad - hidden gem! Loved the vinaigrette which paired wonderfully with the cheeses and nuts they added to the greens. The flavors were mixed very well, although there were again some bites that were very salty. My partner who is essentially an obligate carnivore actually enjoyed this! Lamb bocadillo - devoured before I could get a picture. Very solid lamb slider that's great for sharing between two. Tres leches cake - definitely give this a go - very solid take on a tres leches with jammy berries on top alongside some nuts. Drinks - extra points for the feline-themed drink names. We had 4 different cocktails and loved them all. I would love to come back with a party of 2-3 to try more of the dishes, including the paella! read more
I went to Tres Gatos for a friend's birthday dinner and absolutely loved the food. The restaurant also serves as a bookstore and music store (very cool combination!). We ordered seven dishes for the three of us and it was the right amount of food. My favorites were the pan seared scallops steamed mussels, and chickpea fritters. Our server was super friendly and recommended we try the churros for dessert. Loved it here, I definitely plan on coming back again. read more
I had dinner at Tres Gatos on a weeknight and it was solidly busy. The food was also solid, especially the gambas Al ajillo. The servers were friendly and the place itself was lovely and warm. A major highlight was browsing the book and record store in the back after our meal! They have a good selection and lovely, helpful, friendly staff, and it was a fun and new way to end a dinner out. Definitely recommend! I will be back! read more

My first time in JP was a success, Tres Gatos being one of the highlights of my day trip here. It was a beautiful place with a nice and cozy atmosphere and a very sweet waitress. My friend and I ordered brussels sprouts, gambas al ajillo, albondigas, patatas bravas, and churros for dessert. This was the perfect amount to leave fulling stuffed with no leftovers. Loved the sauce in the gambas al ajillo and the taste of the albondigas meatballs mixed with manchego polenta. You can also browse their record and book shop attached to the back of the restaurant to digest your food afterwards! Lovely place, 5/5 stars. read more

This place was amazing!! Fun drinks and environment! They have some records for sale in the back! I loved the food - more on the expensive end but something worth splurging for! The dishes are creative and well crafted. The service was also great. read more
This is literally one of the best brunches I've ever had. I usually hate home potatoes because not every potato you get is crispy as it should be. Every single potato given was crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside. The scrambled eggs were well cooked, the way they cook bacon is how I like it, not greasy, crispy, but not burnt. The brocolli rabe was good, and that salsa verde with garlic on top of the eggs was wonderful! Goes great on the toast. Can't wait to try dinner one day. read more
Some very good tapas here!! Such a cool inside vibe too. Not only is this place a restaurant that looks like an unassuming house but it is also a book store and record store. Very cool. For food we went a little wild. The highlights were the chickpea fritters. Seriously if you come here you HAVE to get those. Thinking about them again now is making my mouth water. Those were a must get. The shrimp were also very good. The cilantro lime sauce they came in was something I would like to eat forever. The service was good! Solid local neighbor tapas joint. We came on a busy Friday night with a reservation and had a nice date night. Best place to park is the small lot a block away next to the wine store. Reservations are for inside only but there were a number of outdoor tables that were first come first serve. Wait for those were 15-30 min at 8 pm. Inside was really cozy. Low lighting made for a romantic setting, and I really loved the books, records, and little decorations. The food was good. The skirt steak was our favorite dish. Steak was well seasoned and the mushrooms were lovely. Little on the saltier side but I like it that way. We also ordered the lentils and chickpea fritters. They were fine dishes. The taziki sauce on the fritters was tasty. read more
