We really enjoyed our visit to Tres Gatos. It's a small, intimate space, but it's cute inside. We made a last minute reservation so we were sat at the high top by the kitchen. The table was a bit tight, but we made it work. Our server was kind. We started with chorizo and cheese. The chorizo was similar to meat from A charcuterie board, so for the price, we would definitely skip ordering the cheese and chorizo. Other than those 2 dishes, we would order everything again! The potatoes, carrots and mushrooms were bomb! They were each so good. I'd order all 3 again. The chicken was also really good. The potatoes tapas is the same as the potatoes that come with the chicken, so no need to order both, unless you love potatoes. that being said, the potatoes were so good that we couldn't stop eating them. Tres Gatos is a unique spot - located inside a renovated JP home. It has an intimate, cozy, and moody feel making it a perfect date night spot. I love the incorporation of many of the homes original elements - keeping the fireplace, stocked bookshelves, true to name cat decor sprinkled throughout. One of the coolest parts is in the back corner is an active record store you can browse before/after dinner. The restaurant serves unique cocktails and tapas. The standouts for us was the fluke crudo - which was salty and sweet, and very refreshing - and the lamb burger - loveddd the chimchurri sauce. A unique spot certainly worth a try!! read more

I had heard about this place multiple times so since we were hungry and nearby we decided to check it out. Luckily grabbed a walk-in patio spot, and wow we were not prepared for how delicious this was going to be! Everything was on point, from the service, to food, drinks, & vibes. Our four top was given 90 minutes to dine. We ordered a paella so that took time, but they did try to push us out at the 90 minute mark. I get that. The paella was ok, but where was the crusty bottom? It just wasn't there. Spicing was nice and it all had good flavor. I'm just not sure $75 made it all work for me. It also came quicker than the 30-45 minutes they quoted; did they cut corners? We had an array of tapas, each was very good. Pricey yes. Sangria was tasty, but young. It needed a longer brew. My friends and I had dinner at Tres Gatos and had a mostly wonderful time. Service was excellent, on time and not too much of a pest. She advised us on what plates to eat. We ordered the mushroom paella and six plates plus dessert. The paella was amazing, prepared perfectly. The plates were superb -- roasted carrots and halibut stood out as fantastic. We saw they just opened for brunch, wanted to try it out, and were not disappointed! The zucchini bread was sweet and delicious, as was the orange marmalade that came with it. I got the Eggs Benedict, and it was fantastic. Granted I don't eat them frequently, but I found the hollandaise really smooth (and buttery) and the eggs poached perfectly. The sprinkle of dill on top cur through the richness, and the bread soaked up all the yellow goodness. We also got the pancakes, which were super buttery with a nice crust. Absolute GEM of a spot in Jamaica Plain. Went here for a birthday dinner with friends and was very happy with the result. We grabbed a handful of tapas -- our favorites were the Papas Fritas and the stuffed dates. The olives and beet salad were also absolutely delicious! We all ordered drinks as well and they were great; my winter sangria was well balanced and I ended up ordering a second before leaving. The atmosphere was relaxed but still semi-formal. He suggested we wait in the record/book store and within 20 minutes we had a table. Service was prompt and pleasant. We went to Tres Gatos for dinner and we sat on the front patio. Luckily, we were able to get the larger table with comfortable chairs. I would have hated to sit at one of the smaller tables with those very uncomfortable chairs. The service was friendly and the food was satisfactory, but there's more to a dining experience than just those aspects. Trust in the recommendations given by your server and value for money are very important. There are a few things that really influence this review. Firstly, the pricing is way too high for what you are getting. I've eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants for less. The busboy asked if we wanted some bread, suggesting it would be good for soaking up the nice flavors from the mussels. Next thing we know, we're charged $8 for two slices of bread--that's outrageous. Having been to Spain three times, I can say that this cuisine is far from authentic and virtually carries no similarities beyond the names on the menu. Here's the kicker: I didn't understand what the 5% charge on my bill was for until after I tipped. When I opened the menu again, I saw they were charging 5% to give their kitchen staff a salary increase. Is this not the most insane thing you have ever heard of? Why am I paying for the kitchen staff's salary increase? You're the owner, you're already charging exorbitant prices--pay your employees properly and don't place this scam on your clients. That is absolutely absurd. Needless to say, I won't be dining here again in any hurry. It's definitely not worth it and very disappointing. read more

Great tapas spot! Came here for a date night and it did not disappoint. It's so cool and cozy inside with a bunch of high and low tables. We got seated right next to the kitchen so it was cool to see the food get made. Our server was nice and attentive. All of the food was delicious. We ordered the homemade focaccia, the shishito peppers, the marinated olives and the mussels. For drinks I got the Manhattan. After dinner we walked around the record store and picked up a few pieces. The person running the store was so cool and he played some music for us before we purchased anything. Accommodating, they check in (but not excessively) and they just seem cool without being pretentious - which matches the vibe of the restaurant itself. Food is great quality. Highly enjoyed the chutney type red sauce that came with this dish. Steak tartare - Also good, would eat this again but not a must have. There is a selection of records and books for sale inside and the uniqueness of its ambience blew me away but not as much as the food. When you go to the shop you'll see the kitchen and it's small but the taste here is HUGE. Came here for a date night dinner and I loved it! Would overall give a 4.5 so I rounded up to 5 stars. Easy to find parking and my partner and I really enjoyed the cozy yet trendy vibe inside. They were playing great music as well. Service was standard and friendly. We opted to go for more tapas over fewer tapas alongside a paella at the server's recommendation, and this is the way to go unless you have a larger party. Spanish tortilla - I loved this dish although some bites of it were definitely oversalted. The flavors were rich and tasty, though, so I would still recommend this if you're a fan of strong flavors. Scallops - absolutely stole the show! Sweet, fresh, and cooked to perfection - paired really well with the salsa verde. Steak - I was a little worried when they didn't ask how we wanted the steak cooked; however, they came out medium rare just as I like my steak. Good portions, well-seasoned, and juicy. Salad - hidden gem! Loved the vinaigrette which paired wonderfully with the cheeses and nuts they added to the greens. The flavors were mixed very well, although there were again some bites that were very salty. My partner who is essentially an obligate carnivore actually enjoyed this! Lamb bocadillo - devoured before I could get a picture. Very solid lamb slider that's great for sharing between two. Tres leches cake - definitely give this a go - very solid take on a tres leches with jammy berries on top alongside some nuts. Drinks - extra points for the feline-themed drink names. My first time in JP was a success, Tres Gatos being one of the highlights of my day trip here. It was a beautiful place with a nice and cozy atmosphere and a very sweet waitress. My friend and I ordered brussels sprouts, gambas al ajillo, albondigas, patatas bravas, and churros for dessert. This was the perfect amount to leave fulling stuffed with no leftovers. Loved the sauce in the gambas al ajillo and the taste of the albondigas meatballs mixed with manchego polenta. This is literally one of the best brunches I've ever had. I usually hate home potatoes because not every potato you get is crispy as it should be. Every single potato given was crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside. The scrambled eggs were well cooked, the way they cook bacon is how I like it, not greasy, crispy, but not burnt. I have been there many times over the past ten years, but I have to shout them out for my experience last night. My husband and I went for dinner for our fifth wedding anniversary and they were so incredibly kind. They wrote us an adorable card (who does that??) and brought us complimentary wine with dessert. We chose to dine here because parking is convenient in the area, the menu looked fun and they had an available reservation when we needed it. We arrived and we're seated right away, in the room attached to the kitchen. Seating is pretty right because the restaurant itself is very small. Low lighting made for a romantic setting, and I really loved the books, records, and little decorations. The food was good. The skirt steak was our favorite dish.
