2SP Hockessin is a staple. The food is always good and they are great about making my sandwich that is so annoyingly off-menu (grilled chicken BLT but made like a buffalo chicken sandwich with their freakishly good bleu cheese dressing and sweet heat). After hearing what happened at the Newark restaurant I had to add my input on the Hockessin location. It's been over a month since I have been there and will never be back. First I'll start with how their overall management works. The Newark location recently had a man crash into the front of the restaurant at 1am in the morning. The Delaware On Line news article stated he had been there for several hours drinking. I would consider that overserving a customer. ***LICENSE VIOLATIONS***. Establishments that overserve face administrative citations, hefty fines, and potential suspension or revocation of their liquor license through the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner. They finally asked him to leave and he and friends went to his pickup and proceeded to drink. After a while he decided to drive his pickup into the restaurant causing damage. He was shortly arrested and charged with DUI and other crimes. In regard to my incident at Lantana which I have been frequently going to and met nice employees and customers until....On my last visit it was unfortunately during shift change. That is an awkward time between the bartenders which I understand. I'll cut to the chase and state what happened. I had one beer with the day time bartender. The new bartender LOGAN came on duty. As she was walking down the bar I raised my hand three times trying to get her attention. Unbeknounst to me she was having a conversation with people at the end of the bar fifteen feet away so I was interrupting her. When she finally acknowledged me she slammed my one beer tab on the bar and refused to serve me. No reason given. It's so hypocritical that a customer at the Newark location was being served for several hours. However I get the boot from someone who feels she is ***ENTITLED*** after fifteen minutes of her starting her shift. read more

My boyfriend and I came here yesterday around 4 PM. We were seated promptly. Wasn't crowded. Just a few occupied tables. Our server, Bria, was wonderful. Attentive but not overbearing. We've ordered drinks. Orange Crush and Honey I'm Smashed drinks. They both were great. The Crush tasted like the one at Starboard Restaurant (located in Dewey Beach). The Smash had real crushed up fruits (I believe strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry) which made the drink semi-sweet and tart but still yummy. The mussels are always a must have. Fresh, even during this time of season. Their sauce is made to perfection. Make sure to ask for extra bread because you will need it to soak up the rest of the broth. Yum! The pan seared salmon (4.5/5) wasn't just a pretty dish, it was delightful. My boyfriend really enjoyed his fish & chips, fries, and Cole slaw. It started to get busy right before we left. Worst table service I've had in years. Young man waiting on our table of 5 watched Tv while several of us sat with empty drinks. He brought entree out before apps. Another server refused to take a beer order stating "you aren't my table". French fries came out practically raw. None of our plates came out at the same time. It was a total mess. I don't think they even took the raw fries off our bill. I just wanted to settle up and leave. I will never return. Wow! And the bill was almost $200...for that mess! read more

Quick service for our work group that just wanted a round of drinks and small bites. Taco Tuesday was in effect and the shrimp taco (j$4 per) was just what I needed. We usually sit at the bar and have never had a bad experience. The appetizers and food are solid. The chef has gotten more creative and what we've eaten here is delicious. While the wine is a bit overpriced, that's standard everywhere. My only gripe is having to ask for a third olive in our martinis--two olives just feels cheap, and unfortunately, that's not unique to this place. I don't know if bartenders in this are just poorly trained, or uneducated about bartending practices, but every 90% of the bars we go to we have to beg for three olives. The main issue this time was a Sunday special we wanted to try. I prefer the bar. The dining area feels dark, dingy, and crowded with kids--great if you have a family, but not ideal if you're looking for a quieter meal. We did not go there to eat this weekend but I was planning done doing takeout for Sunday. Since the special wasn't on the online ordering app, I had to call in the order. The hostess, who sounded very young, said she'd transfer me to the bar but just left me on hold. (Another frustration of this area is while I love they hire youth for these hostess jobs, they don't do a good job and are clueless... Just too young to get it. It's this generation where kids are being raised to be snowflakes.) After five minutes, I hung up--frustrated, especially since no one bothered to call me back. If you expect people to call in, don't leave them hanging. It was disappointing and avoidable. read more

This is the better of the three two stones I've been to. We went on a friday night and called ahead. There was about a 45 min wait on a friday night and all the servers were moving! At this two stone they actually had the beer on their menu which was surprising. I was able to try a black berry cider. The glass it came with had lipstick on it but im fine to drink out a can (nbd). My boyfriend was able to order a draft he liked as well. We ordered the nachos, tacos, fries, and honey chicken entree. It was all pretty good. No complaints and it came out timely given how freaking busy they were. The building itself is a bit dingy inside but it was the better of all the twostones! read more

I see you guys are down to 3 stars. Bummer. Wow. I think you were at 4.5 when I moved to Delaware in September, otherwise I probably never would have come by. I don't go anywhere less than 4 stars. It's a general rule unless I'm in the middle of Texas, and 3 stars is my only choice. Well-- Anyhoo! I reached out to management early last week about some discontent with a member of your restaurant staff and received zero response. So unfortunately, you now get this public review. As your diminishing stars would indicate, this 2 Stones location is rapidly declining in both quality of food and service. Your food has always been just average in my experience, so I have ordered food sparingly, primarily only when I was in a pinch. I think your beer is great (2SP is one of the finest pilsners this side of the Mississippi and great job with the Up and Out!) Your happy hour specials seem reasonable, fine, and fair... It's the changing staff I think, that is the real problem. Specifically the new GM that replaced Jason (who was awesome by the way) I realize he's a hard act to follow, because he was fantastic, always made me feel like a friend who was welcome. Introduced himself with a smile on Day 1, blah, blah, blah... So is this new GM Gal always having a bad day, or is she just really a "Negative Nancy?" I have only had two problems with any servers or bartenders in 7 months time, and it's been the same one each time so I don't think it's a coincidence. And clearly not me. It boils down to this particular bartender's attentiveness, professionalism, attitude, and competence. She has been my problem twice. And after the first time-- honestly-- I would look in the window from outside, and if I saw that she was working behind the bar, I would leave, and head over to a different neighborhood haunt like Two Paupers or Corner Cove. There was however, one other bartender (I'm not naming names) who once thought it was more important to deep clean the bar and chit chat with a co-worker in the middle of the afternoon, than it was to offer me service-- I was the only customer at the bar at the time. I told her how I felt, and walked out, but ultimately, all is forgiven there and we've had a fine time since. But on this beautiful warm Tuesday afternoon last week, I stopped by to experience the pure joy that is Kenna and a 2SP, when the questionable bartender took over the shift. That's when the vibe goes from light to dark. From happy to sad. From inspired... to... "I gotta get out of here." She's probably playing the victim and "woe is me, he was so mean to me," etc, but the fact is, yes... I got agitated with her because she wouldn't bring me my check after I asked for it and waited. And waited. And again, waited... I called her out on it... I told her "Look, when I ask for my check it actually means I have to go." She wanted to have some leisurely convos with other regulars and co-workers alike, rather than grab my check for me. So then, rather than actually talking to me about it, and sorting things out... she gets all offended and she says, "I'm gonna get my manager." AKA: "I'm telling Mom!" Then, when "Mom" came by, instead of trying to diffuse the situation, this loathsome bird starts insulting me and tells me to NEVER COME BACK AGAIN. Whoa. Seems outrageous to me and borderline psychotic, that this new GM's response to my discontent, was: "Don't ever come here again." Truth be told, I called this Karen out on her B.S., told her how rude she had been for the past 6 weeks or so, grimacing at me, never saying hi, just walking around like a person who was in charge and neither cared nor wanted to be bothered. (Pitiful way to manage an established restaurant/bar I should say) Oh yeah-- I told her all that... I also told her that she clearly was not able to fill Jason' shoes as a GM. Oh that got her! Boy was she mad then! That's when she took it personally and told me never to come back. According to my credit card statements, I've dropped $934.68 at your bar since September, (mostly beer) excluding the countless times that I paid in cash. I have no way to track that. Needless to say... the inadequate bartender and the surly GM get their wish. I will never be back. Big shout outs to your stellar servers and bartenders like: Kenna, Kade, Mike, John, Brandon, and your former super star, Callie. I'll miss them all! Don't let my rating discourage you. You might have a positive experience. It's so hit or miss. The first time I went, I would have given it 4-5 stars. The fois gras burger is delicious. The next three times it was quite underwhelming. The menu is good. The food was not bad at all. It was the service and atmosphere that threw me off. You can sit at your seat for extended periods with no one checking on your drink or picking up your bill. It's currently off of our list of places to dine. It was ranked quite high on our list initially. The final time I went, a nearby table of young adults were there with their adorable, yet loud and wild children. I could suffer the noise... but the children went around to several tables licking the tips of the salt shakers. The parents didn't protest when we alerted them. The very sweet, yet young waitstaff didn't find it terribly alarming either. It was myself and my date that had to alert the newer arrivals of patrons about the salt shakers... because they were still on the tables after the children were licking them. That's unacceptable and I am sure the owner/manager would agree. I think this is a good place that suffers from inconsistency in the kitchen and an inexperienced waitstaff. This a decent enough place. It was quiet and service was good. They seem to have a really great beer selection (unfortunately I'm not really a beer drinker but this is probably a good place to go if you are). They don't do any frozen blended drinks and sadly I was really in a pina colada mood. The food was just okay though. We had the dirty kettle chips as an appetizer and while I'd try them again I wasn't in love with them. For my meal I had the Brewers plate, which is a very german-like meal with sausage and kraut and mashed potatoes. I'd order it again as it was pretty good. My dinner date did not enjoy his meal as much. He had the grilled chicken BLT and it was not very tasty. In addition it was falling apart as he was eating it. Look i go here a lot because it's close by my house. I'm not going to stop coming here, but damn every time i go and i mean every time the tacos are ice cold and so is the white cheese on the nachos. I just don't get it. How can this keep happening. Now i only get one or two things on the boring menu they have because at least they are hot. Need to keep your food hot for safety reasons. This place keeps getting worse. Went tonight and the service was horrible. The waitress didn't show up until we asked the person up front. The food is just boring. I had to wait to be seated because they were out of silverware. You're a restaurant, your business is literally to allow people to dine. This is made worse by the hostess saying this is a common problem on Fridays and Saturdays. I don't know restaurant management, but this seems like it should be a one time issue: Not enough silverware one night, order more, fin. Edit: I posted the above comment while hangry. Bartenders are great and the beer is even better! Taco Tuesday is our favorite, Burgers are fantastic, but the rest of the menu could use some updating. Would have given 5 stars except that the hostess's have been to us on more than one occasion very rude. They enjoy making patrons wait ubnoxiously long while they decide what table is best for that particular group. We saw (and overheard) them make someone wait who was just wanting to order out and have a few drinks while waiting. They refused to let them sit at an empty table in the bar because utensils were not on the table. Then they proceeded to gossip about something while twirling their hair. Wow! Seriously? Unfortunately, this is the fault of management. The girls clearly need customer service training and management needs management training. Good Luck! read more

Have been to other Two Stones and always enjoyed. Have been to this location twice, once just to grab a quick drink and do some work, and then again Saturday night for dinner. There was a minor wait for a table, but the bartenders were friendly and quick while we waited. We were seated in the large, heated and covered patio-ish area, and Amanda took exquisite care of us. The beer list was solid, and they were quick to update them when something kicked. Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout - wow! Menu was excellent, as usual, and the specials were good. The chicken nachos were delicious, and I went with the short rib confit dinner special. The short ribs were perfectly prepped, and really yummy. Next time we will stay for dessert as well. Dear Mr. Stiglitz Went tonight, got three samples of beer, one of them being little brett from allagash...ordered it, they came out and it was not the same beer...spoke up about it and we were told that it was getting ready to kick and it tastes different when its that low...so we got another sample of "little brett" yup that was the beer we wanted soooo they brought out what we believe were the same first beers that were sent back because they were room temperature and tasted the same as the first beers. So we described what the sample tasted like... we were provided with a taste of seaquench and a limey gose, yup it was the limey gose we had tasted. Finally after a 45 minute ordeal we got our one and only beer. One beer the entire time we were there, now that sucked. One member of our table ordered two pork belly tacos and after all meals were out and ten minutes had passed we inquired about them. We were told "the kitchen screwed up and forgot your tacos" Plus we were really disappointed as was our waiter with the menu changes. No more gravy fries, not as many sandwiches selection. I believe you have taken your eye off the prize and have lost track of your original mission statement. You can look into this if you want, we were there around 5:00 till 6:45 ish. You will find two pork belly tacos that were cancelled or voided and two allagash bretts that were voided. Never so much as an offer of two free beers or the two limey goses on the house. I've always liked the food at 2SP. At this particular location, that was no different. My friends and I split the calamari and truffled fry pile, both of which were very good. I had the crispy fish tacos, and they were just the right amount of spicy. I had a Pitchfork Cider with my meal which was very tasty. I love how you can try beer before you buy it here. The service however, was horrible! It took a very long time to get everything we asked for. Getting our bill took the longest. And for a Saturday night it wasn't that busy! I live closer to the North Wilmington location, so I'll most likely be going to that restaurant when I'm in the mood for 2SP. read more

Close your eyes real quick and try to recall the biggest teases of your lifetime. That boy/girl you liked but the timing just never quite worked. The year the 76ers traded for Andrew Bynum without knowing that his knees were made out of cotton candy. That NFL parlay card that started off 14-for-14 before the Cleveland Browns got a hold of you (that was your fault). For me, the story of Two Stones Hockessin could've very easily fallen into that sad basket of "what ifs." For over a year before their eventual opening, there were whispers of their arrival in Lantana Square. Then backtracks. New plans. Rumors of abandonment. Finally, silence. Thankfully, the fates turned and this little gem did indeed grace us all with a grand opening sometime around Leap Day 2016. I remember this because they brewed a beer called 'Hop Leap', an excellent IPA (yay!) that they will not be making again until the next leap year (boo! thanks for that. I'm sure the next 1000 days will just breeze by...). But I digress. Two Stones Pub is my favorite bar in the area and it has been for the past ten months. The beers are great, the food is solid (the rotating specials are always unique and often delicious), the decor is pleasing, and the televisions work. But what really makes the difference here is the lifeblood of any restaurant: the people. I will shamelessly lie to your face if ever asked to admit exactly how many times I've pulled up a stool at the bar, but suffice to say it's enough to have seen the various iterations of the staff doing their thing on days both hectic and dead. The bartenders and waitstaff are a wonderful, friendly, and professional crew. They are patient. They are attentive. And their knowledge (and cheerful willingness to assist with the selection) of the ever-changing whirlwind of saisons, goses, dubbels, tripels, quadruples (are there quintuples? if not, can we do this? can we just add a dubbel to a tripel? is that how it works?) and whatever else comes down the pike is uncanny. The management team is top-notch and keeps everything running smoothly. And whoever is responsible for their social media presence deserves an award. How many restaurants make multiple daily postings updating the draft lists and detailing the specials, replete with well-shot photos of that "Lucky Me Burger" or "When Pigs Fly Sandwich" that make you have to wipe the drool off your iPhone screen or shut your office door because you're now just a weeeeeee bit aroused? (too much? too far? sorry not sorry.) The point is, while the first Two Stones (Newark) was once way ahead of the curve on the craft beer scene, the years have gone by and your options are now ever growing in this golden age of malt and hops. But I'd still recommend Two Stones Pub *first* to anyone looking for a variety of interesting and diverse craft beers and a good meal to go with them. And I'd do that because behind the crisp ales, creamy stouts, decadent dirty kettle chips, and hilariously themed Taco Tuesdays is a solid, smiling crew who know their shit and will take care of you whether you're a wandering newbie or a degenerate regular like me. They, more than anything else, are the gems that make Two Stones shine. So stop in for a Bellcracker or a Weiss Wit. Have an order of sweet-heat wings or split the amazing cheese plate with someone else hungry. Follow them on Facebook and stay abreast of the daily specials and sporadic events. It's all worth it. And if you come in on a weekday at around lunchtime, you might just get to see an exceptionally handsome man in his early 30s sitting at the end of the bar, nursing a mug and grumbling to himself that "vegan chili" should NOT be on the menu in place of the other delicious chili because if you're a vegan, sorry, you don't get to have chili anymore! Was our first time and would go again at night to see how that work out. First time in this area , so as an out of state person , if we went by reviews, would have not gone here. Glad we did. After a little driving around the parking lot of this neighborhood shopping center, I found it tucked in a corner with a huge covered outdoor patio. Great selection of craft beers on tap, and an endless list of cans and bottles - plus full liquor. Inside, a large bar, plenty of high-tops, and spacious dining room in the rear. Fresh locally-sourced food was unbelievably good. I mean, the food reigns supreme here. It's great. I'd want to try their brunch on Sundays. Servers were very friendly.
