The Guinness beef stew looked like dog food and had no taste either. We all got dessert and again none of us were impressed. For the price of everything were expecting a lot more than we got. Let me start with it's a nice little place and I will definitely go again. We went in on a rainy Saturday night and got seated very quickly. All through our visit I will say all the waiters and waitresses were all hustle and bustle! I mean they were moving! Their menu had a few unique things on it. We had the prosciutto stuff mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and they were tasty. The waitress had offered us ranch or marinara and since they were mozzarella sticks we took the marinara, which was good, but next time I'll do the ranch because I could see how that could really kick it up! While we waited for our dinner, I couldn't help but notice lots of yummy looking things passing by. Most notable was the wedge salads and the nachos. For my main course I had the Chicken Vera Cruz. It was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The chipotle cream sauce was so good and next time I'll be asking for for extra on the side as some of it got mixed into the cilantro-lime rice and yes, yes, yes that should be a thing. Arrived here for an early dinner. The inside gives off this late 90's used to be wild happy hour vibe. But with the lights dim and the black painted drop ceiling, I had to use the flashlight on my phone to read the menu. But then again, I am old. Server was friendly and helpful with recommendations. We tried the firecracker shrimp for appetizer. Not sure what I expected, but it wasn't this. For dinner I had the cheesesteak with barbie fries. It was explained that barbie fries are fries with some bbq salt and a side of queso. The cheesesteak was perfect. The fries not so much as they were soggy. They probably waited for something else to get done. My wife had a chicken Caesar wrap with potato fries. Again, the wrap was the star of this show. I'll drop in again, but I might wait until there's a game to catch at the bar and see if the vibe improves. read more

Then we had to wait almost an hour for our salad and sandwich to come out even though we told them to bring everything at once since we were in a time crunch. 7 of us went out for lunch. Should've known it sucked because the place was empty at prime lunch time. Even empty the Service was slow. A beer had a small fly stuck in the head foam. A friend of mine invited me to dinner here, and considering it was an hour's drive, toll and current gas prices, I was glad she treated me to a meal. It was fine perhaps as a local, but otherwise, forgettable. PROS: It wasn't too loud inside and we could actually have a conversation. The server was delightful and we tipped her well. CONS: We sat in a big round table with seating that was ripped and dug into my thigh. So many of the dishes were offered as "blackened." Got any other spices back there? Fortunately, I asked for my salmon to be grilled plain, and they accommodated my request. I am pretty sure my Southwest salad came without any dressing or seasoning. The vibe in here is so wonderful! Everyone is very friendly and homey. Comfy seats, fast service, good food. It's a lovely place to get a bite! They have specials every day, too. Loved the brunch I had, and the house made chicken is stellar. You can tell it's fresh for certain! They don't do dinner, but do have filling entrees. Our server, George, was a super upstanding guy! Very nice place. Very Tasty Cheesesteak. You have to pay the Hockessin price of $12. It did come with french fries. The Cheesesteak was very small. Very good ingredients. Very good grill person. It was a very small cheesesteak. It also needed more cheese. What I really liked about six Paupers is they keep a nice selection of beer on tap. Specifically they always have a sour on tap. Been meaning to try to stop here for a bit to check it out. The servers were really nice but I was a little surprised by the prices on the menu, especially the kids menu at $8.95 a pop for normal kids menu items, like a small burger with tater tots; the quantity wasn't there for the price. I had made a reservation for 8 people a month in advance because we were coming to see a friend that was playing in the band on a particular Friday night. I asked for a table near the band. When we arrived we were stuck at a corner table on the opposite side of the bar from the band. I complained to the manager and he basically told me too bad, that's all that was available. To add insult to injury, my husband had to go to the hostess to get someone to wait on us. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the crab nachos. It came with a huge blob of guacamole on top, which tasted like onion. My friend's crab cakes were all filler and not very good at that. My other friend ordered a Cobb salad that came with no dressing. The server, Joshua, was trying his best but seemed to be overwhelmed. It was very busy and they appeared to not have enough help. This is my local bar, and I've been eating and drinking here for over 10 years. The bar staff are friendly, observant, and efficient, always willing to talk to customers, to explain the menu or just to chat. As a single woman, I've always felt safe sitting at the bar or at a nearby high top table. The bar itself is U-shaped and roomy, with a half dozen nearby high-tops, along with a banquette area that separates the bar from the main restaurant. The restaurant section offers booths and tables, and also has a private room, easily seating 25 patrons for parties or special events. In warmer weather, outside porch tables are available, protected from rain. Plentiful parking spaces outside, and a rotating list of daily specials inside, make Six Paupers a place you'll want to keep coming back to! read more

Called them early in the week to see if open on thanksgiving. I was told they were. Made reservation for 5 on their website for 4 pm thanksgiving Day. got several emails confirming. We showed up @ 4 pm. Place was dark. No cars or people there. We waited awhile and several other people came in to parking lot as well and they had reservations as well . since they had my email the least they could do was email me that day stating they would not open. so 5 of us are sitting in parking lot at 430 on Thanksging calling everywhere looking for a restaurant. Fortunately Skipjacks had an openning and we went there. Glad we did as the meal was great at Skipjacks. I never will spend any $ at 6 paupers again. read more

This place was bad; not horrible but if you like health standards and good service (had better) it's hard to get past a few things: hair in food (by the way I looked in the kitchen window and no one of the three people had on hair nets/protection); the rest room was out of soap in one dispenser and there was a table in front of it making it inaccessible to anyone disabled and the waitstaff had to be asked to bring the $13 change, from the $27 bill ( it was not a tip). No manager ever came over to check or apologize for the hair in the food. Overall poor; I told Matty/manager about my experience and she told me to go ahead and leave a review - so here it is Matty. We wanted to grab a bite at a pub type atmosphere. Heard Six Paupers was worth a try so we headed over for a Friday night dinner. COVID restrictions exist so tables were spaced more than normal but everything else was in full swing. Met immediately at the door and seated. Accommodated our seating request so we could sit near the bar easily. Ordered French Dip and the Filet Mignon. French dip was fantastic but they are hard to mess up. The Fillet was top notch. My wife is crazy and likes well done beef, somehow they nailed it perfectly with a slight char outside, perfectly well done yet still juicy inside. Made me regret my French dip. This meal was easily better than the "best steak joint in town" we visited previously and under half the cost. The sides were even great. perfectly done zucchini and tasty mashed potatoes. We let the server know how much we liked our meal and she indicated they recently changed chef's and she also really liked the food. Service was good and perfectly timed. We order a very specific drink and they were perfect which was refreshing. We will definitely come back. read more

I ordered fried chicken sandwich and Husband ordered a wrap, took forever to come out then on top of that, when it finally came out they brought WRONG dinner for me! My waitress was very nice and of course said sorry but that doesn't help when husband is half way thru dinner and your dinner hasn't even been started yet. Opened by the former owners of the much cooler Dead Presidents Pub in downtown Wilmington, Six Paupers is located on the main thoroughfare that runs through the 'village' of Hockessin. The inside is beautiful, warm with dark mahogany wood paneling, etched glass and the centerpiece: a massive oval bar with ample seating. The dining room and outdoor patio is almost an afterthought. Menu is your standard attempt at modern gastropub dining with inventive appetizers (ahi tuna bites, crab nachos) and standard main course fare (N.Y. strip, chicken, Mushroom ravioli) The kitchen can be hit or miss - nothing I've ever eaten here has been memorable, but it is a safe bet for a casual lunch or dinner if you're in the area. Otherwise, this place is ripe for the drinking. And pray that those salty tears land in your plate lending it just a hint of seasoning. I have had the food here once, but to be honest it was entirely forgettable. They do have the chicken Nixon, that I love, from Dead Presidents. Unfortunately, not even an old favorite is enough to raise the rating of this place. Other reviewers have commented on the strange vibe in this place. There is no question, this place is strange.
