    Birria, chips & salsa.

I'm literally still in the restaurant writing this review because for once, I'm dining alone. So friendly from the moment you walk in the door. Chips & salsa immediately delivered to my table. They have a few drink options, I can't do margaritas, but they had Merlot, so good for me. I ordered the birria which comes like a stew to your table, corn or flour tortillas. Delicious!! I could drink this, lol. So flavorful. When I ran out of tortillas, I dipped my chips in the sauce. The restaurant is upstairs/downstairs, quiet, but it is a Monday so pretty much expected. If you're in Angels Camp, please try this place. Oh, and they have a little something for everyone if you're not into Mexican food.

Cascabel is a must eat restaurant. The most authentic Mexican food that I have had in a long time. We had the Pork Chile Verde, Red cheese Enchilada, Green Chile Enchilada with rice and beans. Amazing!!! Everything was Out of this world good. The staff was very a nice and great. The place is small but busy. Great for big groups and small groups. I will definitely be back when we come to Angels Camp.

Called in an order to go. 1:30 on a Friday, place was empty, should have been a sign. Was told 30 wait, order wasn't put up until I got there. Waited 20 more minutes for the 2 enchilada entrees. That night for dinner we were shocked. White rice, (not Spanish) beans, and 2 enchiladas that had canned enchilada sauce, cheddar cheese, and mine had 2 bay leaves in one. Tasted horrible! I cook Mexican food, and raised in Stockton, I know what it should resemble. Place didn't look, feel clean either. The waitress was very nice. Don't understand the positive reviews.

On a road trip with my BFF, and this small restaurant was recommended. We ended up going there two nights. The first night, my friend got the Quesobirria, which I tried, and of my God, delish! Fried Birria Tacos with Au jus made from the beef drippings. Outstanding. I got the Chicken Crispy Tacos, and they were very good. The second time, my BFF got the Chicken Mole and raved about it. I got the Chicken Enchiladas with green sauce and they were great. The beans were good, but the rice was white. Very unusual in a Mexican restaurant. No flavor to it, but everything else was super!

My wife and I went on vacation to Angels Camp California. We had never been there, or even heard about the area. On April 27th while adventuring around we came across Cascabel. Walking inside I really liked the design of the place. It was simple, yet elegant. The waitress sat us right away. I wish I remembered her name. I have since lost my copy of the receipt but she was very friendly. When I opened the menu my eyes went right away to the Birria tacos. That's what they saw first and I knew that's what I was going to order. I have been obsessed with Birria since the first time I tried it. My wife ordered shredded beef enchiladas with beans and rice. Before our entrees came to the table we received our potato dippers. They aren't much to look at when they first arrive. Basically two potato burritos with a cheesy chorizo dip. That first bite was incredible. I actually wasn't ready for them to be that good. They quickly disappeared from sight. Now time for the main event! My Birria tacos. I don't know just where to begin. There are so many aspects to go over. From the obviously handmade tortillas to the gooey melted cheese and finally the flavorful tender meat. Everything was made complete by the dish of consume that came with it. Ps. Since my wife couldn't finish her beans and rice I did. They were delicious, I know when we go back to Angels Camp again we will be back!

Cascabel is just a total kick butt place to relish Latin based food. You will never find a better salsa and chip to savor over before your meal arrives. Today the Great Gal and I shared an incredible Chile Relleno and Nochos feast. Plenty to eat with enchanting Cumbia music in the background and Lexie, very graciously and personality galore, serving our table. We could not have asked for a better lunch experience. Of course, we took a pint of the salsa to go!

The place is clean, the service was friendly and efficient and the food was definitely a step above what I think of as fast food. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and made it a meal (fries and med. drink) for an additional $2, definitely a bargain. When I took the burger out, it was neatly wrapped in an outer paper but inside of that, it was wrapped in another paper, only halfway up so you could eat it and not have the juices dripping in you. The patty looked freshly made, not like a typical frozen or boxed patty and the burger was delicious! You could taste each component or the burger, I think because everything was fresh. I forgot it had bacon in it until I tasted it. It was more like a burger you would get in a better lunch restaurant for twice the price.

My man got boneless wings which weren't even wings and I got the chicken dinner which were dry as hell and overcooked to a nearly black crisp. No a/c and no ice from the soda machine, no wonder everyone looks unhappy here. The only thing decent was the strawberry sunday, but the cherry on top was horrible. Wish there was a chick fil a around here.

It is an impressive setting with great views; when one gets window or patio seating. Our meal lasted late afternoon to dusk, We saw one doe in somebody's front yard landscaping on the drive to Camps, and her herd on the green with the steel steer as we left. We started our meal with a delicious mocktail with sodw, lime, pineapple and? Then had a second with our shared skirt steak dinner. We are fiber fans in our 7th decade. I'd never eaten broccolini, unsophisticated me. Are the stems supposed to be tender as the asparagus stem end cut off and thrown away? Ours was. Great jaw exercise for our flapping chins and Lordy, Lordy! Such fiber. The steak and starch side were good. The dessert coffee (for me) and carrot cake (for us) was second among the several desserts on our south-north Spring 2026 Marathon Drive and Family Responsibility Tour. The advisor at our Best Western mentioned Mike's Pizza, a Thursday night Bocche Bowler on the Camps pitch mentioned Gus's Steak House. It was a fine night with the quiet, romantic elements Yelp is always quizzing about. Would we return or...too much fiber?

Came for the burger :)…read more My husband and I live in the East Bay and wanted to go on a lil drive. We decided on Murphy's for the Watering Hole burger which did not disappoint. We ordered 2 Double Cheese Burgers, the Broccoli Bacon Ranch Salad and an order of French Fries that included a side of ranch. All of what we ordered was delicious. The burgers come with double patties and are grilled along with the onions, the bun lightly toasted, soft and sweet and included a smear of 1,000 dressing. The burgers have 2 different types of cheese, fresh crispy shredded lettuce, pickles and sliced ripe tomato. It is the perfect combination and proportions of all ingredients. The Broccoli Bacon Ranch salad was not like anything I have had before and was a nice surprise to our taste buds. The salad included fresh bell peppers both yellow and red. It also had pickled onions, sunflower seeds, bacon and blue cheese that was all tossed together with ranch dressing which made it very convenient and easy to eat. Last but not least, the French Fries. They included a nice seasoning on the outside for a crispy texture and a creamy inside which I love. I liked the fact that they serve the fries with homemsde ranch and I didnt even have to ask for it...it's the little things for me. We sat inside to dine, I enjoyed seeing what others were eating, of course lots of burgers but also ribs, pasta, chicken sandwiches, salads and even cheese cake for dessert. I like that the menu offered a variety of options and brought great value for the quality and care that you can taste in every bite! I did not notice any issues with service as I saw other reviews reported. I would say that the inside, although cozy was a bit loud while others socialize. I think it was simply the high ceilings that carry the noise. The outside seating area is another option and is very nice as it's next to a stream which we would have chosen if it hadn't been 57° outside that day.
