I went to this shop to look at road bikes. It is located in a suburban strip mall next to a Target. I like that the shop has easy parking in case you need to drop off a bike. The shop is very large and even has an indoor test riding area to try out bikes; that part of the shop alone is bigger than most other shops I have visited. They have a very nice selection of Giant road bikes. But the real specialty of this shop is the high-end mountain bikes. They carry da Vinci mountain bikes and Transition. They also have a BMX bike section. The mechanics are very friendly and knowledgeable and attractive! I very much enjoyed interacting with a handsome young mechanic named Mitch. The only thing I think they need to do is add more comfortable seating and a hang out area for customers to sit while waiting for their bikes to be fixed. read more

We stopped in to get some degreaser after forgetting to get it at another bike shop earlier. The staff is very friendly, and gave us a mini-tour of the space. We drooled over the bikes, browsed through the accessories and finally bought what we came in for. They've got three separate "lounge" areas set up showing videos-- they plan on showing the tour on the main TV near the registers. They don't appear to have much in the way of road bike clothing and gloves, hopefully that will change. Otherwise, they have a great selection of lights, racks, bags, helmets, shoes, etc. Very reasonable prices on the bikes-- I was surprised, in a good way. Overall: I'm glad to have such a great shop in the neighborhood, and I encourage everyone to stop in! read more

I see some people complaining about customer service and some complaining about prices. I thought the customer service and prices were solid. When I got to the store, midday during the week, there were 2 other customers who had mechanical issues. I think a reasonable person would understand a local bike shop can't really staff more than 2 or 3 people max during that point of the day, and they may have to wait. In exchange you'll probably get a bit more expertise than you'll get in the bike department of Target next door. I looked around at all sorts of things while waiting. When the guy was done fixing someones tire he came over, was apologetic for the wait and then I explained to him my needs. He listened, told me there were some entry level options, but also explained to me what I could get at other price points. Was great.. didn't feel like an upsale, but instead an education of various component that I'm sure I'd otherwise wish I had. Bought a Giant bike from him and wanted to get the matching women's version for my wife. They didn't have it in stock according to the computer, so he looked in the back. Nothing there, so he checked the Salem store. Nothing in the computer, but he said he'd call just to check. Sure enough, they had one in stock. He called the store asked if they could hold onto it until the next day when I got there. No conversations about buying it then, or anything to hold it at that store other than a name. Went to the Salem store, got the same friendly customer service, since I was road-tripping I had the dog with me and they even got a bowl of water for her without any request. Hands down, this is my new bike shop! If you ask why, here's the scoop. One week ago, 4 of my rear wheel spokes broke in a stunt. I live on the westside of Beaverton, so I called the two shops that I've gone to before. The cheap, reasonably priced shop said their two mechanics had quit and they couldn't get to my repair for a month. "A month?!", was my only reply. I visited the unreasonably priced bike shop and they suggested a new wheel with 4 broken spokes at a price of $195 + $25 for repairs. You've got to be kidding, I said, "Huh?!!!" and they'd keep my bike for a few days. Fast-forward to Santiam Bicycles. They suggested a new wheel at $85 + $15 repair and there was a free water bottle. Here's the kicker: They had my bike fixed and back to me in 5 hours. I'm serious, people. I saved $120 and saved myself waiting even a single day for my bike! Check with Santiam Bicycle first if you're in the Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin, Raleigh Hills, Garden Home area. You won't regret it. read more

My husband and I brought his bike into the shop to see what it would take to get it back into safe riding condition (it had been sitting for 1.5+ years). They ran a quick yet thorough diagnostic, and said it would be $75 for a tune-up and $25 to replace a broken spoke. ($25 for the spoke since they had to completely disassemble the wheel to properly replace it.) We were very happy with these prices, and we got the bike back two days later in ship-shape condition. They also had a large selection of bikes and equipment on their floor, and we would definitely consider buying other merchandise here when the time comes. Definitely recommend! read more

I had a wonderful experience at Cascade Bikes today. A few weeks ago, I broke a drive-side spoke on the rear wheel of my road bike. It had been sitting at my normal bike shop for a week, but still hadn't been touched. I even had provided the replacement spoke. So I retrieved it and brought it to Matt at Cascade Bikes in Tigard. While I waited, Matt replaced the spoke, trued the wheel, and sent me on my way. And his service charge was extremely reasonable. Possibly the worst customer experience I have had. I have spent over a month across 5 visits and over $150 replacing just the pedaling parts on my bike. I am constantly lied to about their dealings and even after 3 failed repairs they still continue to gouge me for full price. Here's a breakdown of my experience, visit by visit: Visit 1: I go in because I'm worried about a clunky movement when pedaling. I leave my bike there and they tell me that they'll call me when it's done and they'll call me if any additional repairs are needed besides a spindle replacement. Visit 2: It has been a week and a half with no communication, I call them up and they say "Oh your bike is ready. We *tried* calling you!" There are no phone calls from Santiam in my phone records. I pay the 60 bucks and go on my way Visit 3: I bring my bike back in because the arm fell off of my bike (while I was RIDING it) after a single day of use. They say "Oh, that was on your invoice" Oh really? Why wasn't I told about it? (They keep the invoice and don't tell you about what's on it) I even told them to CALL me if additional parts would needed. They tell me I'll need new arms, but they don't carry my part so they'll have to special order it. He gives me an arm that isn't the right length as a temporary replacement and just charges me the $6 for the bolts used on it. (This guy is the best employee that I met at Santiam) He tells me they'll be here in about a week. Visit 4: It has been 2.5 weeks since visit 3. I call in and the parts just arrived yesterday. My only guess is that they didn't actually order the part until I called them 8 days after visit 3. I take my bike in, they put the new arms on (as well as some suggested new front brakes) and charge me full price for the arms. What was the point of the free arm given to me 2.5 weeks earlier? Regardless, I'm glad to be done and finally have a working bike and avoid writing a negative review because it may have just been a fluke. BUT WAIT: 1 week after getting the new arms put on my bike, my pedal falls off. Now I have to go in for a 5th visit (Unless I can find another shop somewhere near me or my work that won't completely drain my wallet and my time). This is the point where I give up my "it's a fluke" attitude. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Have not rode my bike in years. Needed tune up brought into Cascade Bikes and had tune up done brakes needed adjustments, the chain was worn and the derailers needed adjustments. Left for a week after picking up yesterday bright it home and went for a test ride and was still having issues changing gears. Brought it back in today and had some more adjustments made by Matt again and took for a test ride before leaving this time. He also took the bile for a ride and made more adjustments for me. The bike is over 25 years old and has had lots of parts replaced but back in the 1st 5 years of it lifespan. Matt showed me some of the wear on parts that we aging and explained how to change gears to allow the chain to move more cleanly without jumping or not changing over. I've bought two bikes here before and I like that they carry Giant Bikes but I was not won over by their customer service. I've experience better attention to detail and care for the customer at other places. I honestly don't think I'll be returning because there are places out there that will take better care of their customers. I feel like every time I go in to the shop I'm interrupting the guys' time. The place doesn't feel cozy and no one really is ever at the front register. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like no one helped me out but again, I feel like I was taking the guys away from something more important. I didn't feel like a valued customer here. I hate writing bad reviews but at the same time I feel like I need to be fair and honest. I would consider going somewhere else first if your priority is customer service. read more

My son was assembling his new bike and the center bolt on his front brake snapped. He went to Santiam Bicycle and they sold him a completely new front brake that did not fit his bike. So he went back to get one that did fit and they told him he was assembling it wrong and he came home and attempted to assemble it again and it did not fit. The center bolt was not long enough to reach through the bike frame. He went back a third time to return it and just ride his bike without a front brake and they sold him a $45 bike pump instead of refunding his money. The first time he asked for assembly and they said they were too busy, each subsequent time he returned they were too busy to help or give any advice. Nope, sorry. Yes it was his mistake but good customer service would be to help someone out, especially if they are spending money on it. Never go here again. read more

My husband is new to biking and they walked him threw basic repair steps on his bike and were very professional about it, no question was turned away with attitude. I was in the market for a tough commuter bike that would also work for weekend bike camping. After test riding some bikes at a few Portland shops, I decided to try Santiam Bikes in Tigard. I stopped in there on my bike commute home and talked with one of the sales reps. I was impressed by the knowledge and low pressure attitude. I discussed what I was looking for and was shown a Kona Sutra. I was a little skeptical as this bike had wider tires than I had been riding with and bar end shifters. I decided to give it a test ride and immediately loved it. I went home to think about it and ended up buying the bike the next day. I've put 500 miles on this bike so far and am still very happy with my purchase. read more

I bent my derailleur putting my back on a rack. I'm pretty handy and also pretty cheap. Normally I'd fix this sort of thing myself by ordering parts on Amazon or finding used parts and muddling through. I'm so glad I found Cascade Bikes! They saved me so much time, money, and frustration! Because the weather is getting nicer, I figured they'd have my bike a couple weeks and try to run up the bill for some "standard cleaning and tune-up package" requirement like some shops. Instead they did just what I needed done and nothing more. Perfect! They installed a brand new derailleur for $15 less than the one I was looking at on Amazon, straightened the bent hanger (that I didn't even know was bent), and had it done within an hour. After a couple days of riding, I came back in for a tiny adjustment of the limit and they did it in under 5min while I waiting. This was an awesome experience. I just wanted to leave a quick bit of positive feedback about these guys (and gals?). I dropped some wheels off last week for service and picked them up today. I received a couple of follow up-calls from the shop as the work progressed to make sure we were on the same page with regards to the timing and scope of the work. The work done was top notch, well documented, and very reasonably priced. I really appreciated their excellent communication... something that has sadly become the exception at many service businesses rather than the norm. The staff members I interacted with today were all quite friendly, helpful, and capable. I've been in and dealt with a lot of bike shops and have no qualms recommending this one. read more

I have widely mixed feelings about my experience. I went in for a spoke replacement. They inspected and said I needed 3 or 4 and they couldn't promise good results. Also, a new wheel would cost about the same. They had a new wheel in stock and could do the work right away. So far, so good. I came back in less than an hour and the work was done. On the short ride home I found that the caliper brakes on the new wheel were not grabbing and the handle squeezed all the way to the grip. On a longer ride the next day I discovered that the derailleur would not move the chain to the largest gear. Both of these things worked perfectly before. I can only assume that the new wheel is slightly narrower causing these misadjustments. They didn't tell me about these issues or recommend corrections. Hard to believe they wouldn't have tested the brakes and derailleur after replacing the wheel. They delivered a bike in less than good working order. read more

I really wanted to like Santiam Bicycle because a) it's on my commute and b) my neighbor assured me there was a super hot guy working there. Sadly, I saw no super hot guy, thus the one star. TOTALLY KIDDING. I couldn't care less how people in a bike shop look. The one star review is because of the absolutely crap customer service I've gotten on numerous occasions. Honestly, I kept giving them chances because they are so damn convenient. I started biking to work this year, and my husband told me it was really important to have a bike shop on/near my ride in case I needed a new tire/tube/whatever. So when I discovered Santiam Bicycle, I was so excited. However, my excitement at a convenient location quickly died when the people there acted like they would rather do anything in the world than provide good service. I won't detail every time I went in there and they were way too school for school, but I will explain the straw that broke the camel's back (ie, led to my current review and boycott): I brought my tire in and explained that I needed a new tire and one as close to my current tire as possible. The person worked hardly looked at it, went to the back, and came out with a tire. Now, I am definitely culpable in that I bought it without too much examination. I should have looked more closely. That being said, the tire was a full 5cm larger than my other tire (which he told me wouldn't have much effect except that it would give me grip). The tire was so big that it wouldn't fit under my fender. (Fenders which THEY installed.) Then, when I returned the tire, they were decidedly pissy about it. Thus, no more Santiam Bicycle. If you don't mind being treated like you're in their way, they do have a nice selection of bikes. read more

Walked in there to buy bikes for my 5 and 6 year old children. My son liked a bike and asked the staff for training wheels so he can try it out. The guy says only if you buy it. Its too much work to put it on so he'll put them on ONLY if we buy it. It was a $200 bike. Left with my 2 kids crying. What a immature ass. Will never ever buy anything here. read more

Like another reviewer, I really wanted to like this shop and give them my business as they are in the neighborhood. I took my bike in a week ago for a complete tune up, new tires, chain, brakes.....the works. A $235+ estimate, no problem. I was promised the bike would be ready today. I walked to the shop, over a mile and a half, with my bike helmet, ready to ride home. I was told it was not ready and given a lame excuse about days when employees take care of repairs/tune-ups. Bottom line, I'm done with this shop. I fear that a shop like this may close it's doors and leaving your bike with them would result in problems you do not want to experience. read more

We were hoping to purchase 2 bicycles today, but the sales person, who I guess was friendly enough when he greeted us, didn't seem interested in helping us. We told him we were looking for commuters at lower price points, and made it clear we are only casual riders and were simply told "...there, and over there...", then he promptly disappeared. Ten minutes later, after we were ready to ask a few more questions, we got bored waiting for him or anyone to come out front, so we left. We were greeted and helped by Raul and he was awesome - very patient and knowledgeable, answering all of our questions and bringing out multiple bikes in alternate sizes for us to try. We never felt rushed or pressured and his recommendations were much appreciated. He did not steer us to overspending for features that we didn't need. We have been browsing and test riding at several shops over the last couple weeks and other brands with similar components had higher prices. In 2017, I came to Cascade Bikes to purchase a Liv road bike and was shown excellent care and superior customer service. One year later, I was hit by a car on that same bike. Later, on the day of the accident, I brought my busted bike to Cascade Bikes seeking help with repair. Jess and Cody were very professional and knowledgeable helping me through the insurance claim process. They accommodated all my needs providing detailed documentation for insurance purposes and made recommendations that I wouldn't have otherwise known. It was clear they knew exactly how to handle this type of tricky situation and their support provided peace of mind and relief. Over the next month, they were very responsive and corresponded with me frequently. It was determined that my bike was totaled and a replacement bike was needed. There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to keep my business at Cascade Bikes and since I'd grown very fond of my previous bike, I knew I wanted another Liv. The sister company of Giant makes high quality bikes for women at reasonable prices and buying from an honest and trustworthy dealer makes the experience that much more enjoyable. Thanks to Cascade Bikes I was on the road a month after my accident with a new bike and replacement gear. Without their experience and knowledge, I might not have received what I deserved from the insurance company. I walked into this bicycle shop approx. 3:00 yesterday afternoon with the intention of picking out and purchasing a new bike as well as talking to someone about bringing in a bike we already have that needs to be tuned up and adjusted through-out. What I was greeted with as soon as I walked through the door was a big barking dog running at me. This is just unacceptable! If I would have had my niece with me (which I do quite often) she would have been traumatized and had the crap scared out of her. I turned right around and left that shop and will never consider entering there doors again as I am not a dog person myself and did not appreciate that experience at all. The two guys I saw in the shop appeared to find this somewhat humorous. Really?!?! Well I had set aside a considerable amount of funds just for doing this, so I know there are other local bike shops in this area and I will definitely be taking my money elsewhere. You dog people need to wake up and become aware that not everyone appreciates forced personal exposure to those animals anymore than having someone inconsiderately lighting up a cigarette right next to you. read more
