There isn't any standard except who happens to be behind the desk that day. That's unfortunate. They have a good selection but like 8 said before you can find a totally crap pair of sneakers or cleats that week filthy with crappy laces for the same price as a really nice pair. It's kind of dumb honestly. They should have certain hours for trade and have one person or a couple do it. Because the bredth of judgement is WAY too wide. read more

The YS decided this year he wanted to learn to ice skate so he could later play ice hockey. At a loss for what to buy him this Christmas (he buys everything he wants--where does that leave me)? I said would you consider buying some used hockey equipment for your gift this year. He was excited and we went down to Play it Again. The neat thing about this location is it is directly adjacent to the Valley ice rink where the Winterhawk kids practice. They have a large window from the shop that oversees the rink. So while he was trying on items to see if they fit the bill, I was watched the young kids on skates. Impressive group. I only wish I could stand and move on skates--perhaps another time. The guys in the shop were helpful as we really didn't know exactly what we wanted and what size. How long of hockey stick, etc. We bought a bunch of used items and they said if something didn't work to bring it back within 24 hours (for used items-two weeks for new). I did have one thing to come back but they were super nice and easy to work with. All in all a pleasant experience, if he keeps up with the hockey thing, I'm sure I'll be back to buy more. Called this store beforehand and asked if they had a specific size snowboard. Their reply was "we have a large inventory of (size) used and new". Drove here from Washington in rush hour traffic the following day, just to arrive at the store and there's NO snowboards in that size in the store. I feel purposely lied to. Waste of time. I bought a snowboard there for $200. Used board - I get it I spent $100 at REI getting it waxed and rusty edges cleaned up. Fine no biggie but on my first run on the first day, the front left binding strap snaps in half. I have to get it fixed at the lodge then I go back out and snap! The other front binding snaps I get that fixed. Second day I'm on top of the mountain and snap! The back left binding breaks. I have to carefully and slowly make my way down with no back binding on my left foot. That's three binding straps in 2 days! I lose precious time on the mountain, stress other people out who are waiting for me. and so I end up buying new bindings which cost more than the board I purchased. I would not buy bindings there again, get the board and replace the bindings immediately. This was a hard lesson that they don't ensure quality. Thank god I wasn't hurt. 2 stars for the board / -3 for the 3 bindings I lost read more

I love the concept of trading in your kid's outgrown sporting equipment and buying good, used equipment at great prices. We shopped at Play It Again Sports in the Bay Area and were happy to see a local franchise here too. They don't always have everything, and much of what they have is gently used, so don't expect to find brand new, brand-name merchandise here every time. I got my son some new soccer cleats this summer here for $8.99. A month later, he complained that they were too tight, so back we went, and got another larger pair for the same price. I will sell back the old ones next time I stop in. They have equipment for all kinds of sports: hockey, some figure skates, football, basketball, hell, I didn't browse all the aisles but I saw diving stuff, exercise equipment, you name it, I'm sure they've got it. They guys on staff have been helpful and pleasant each time I was there and needed help. Score! read more

I needed a coaches whistle for training my puppy Bob (he comes running for a treat when I blow the whistle) - and, as it turned out, it was great for puppy socialization. I know, it is my life right now. : ) My puppy, Bob, got to watch HOCKEY on the backside of the Play It Again Sports place. I had no idea they had a hockey rink. Cool, huh? I got my $1 whistle! Really appreciated this store's willingness to show me affordable recumbent bike options for my elderly mother. They had a few bikes that would work but I really needed a bare bones, no frills bike. There was no pressure or upsell efforts. They listened to my needs and gave me options. I was able to find the perfect used bike for my mom. The owner, Will, delivered the bike to her today on time and was patient and made suggestions on placement and use of the mat that came with. Even more he showed up when he said he would. They came to some sort of arrangement and it seem like all parties were mostly happy. I'm giving it two stars because the owners had the good sense to hire very polite guys. That's the only good thing I can say though. We went in on a Sunday at 3 to see if we could sell a pair of barely used snowboard boots and a set of golf clubs with a stand bag. We had looked at the website first to see hours and I saw on the FAQ page that yes, they will buy items all year long, not solely during the season and that yes, they will buy at any time they're open. Great, we drove 20 minutes out of our way because the website was so clear on these two points. The two guys behind the counter greeted us when we came in. We asked, even though we had read the website, if they would buy our stuff. The two guys very nicely said "Well yes and no." They said they don't take items out of season, so we could come back with the boots in the winter. We're moving and cleaning out the garage, so we won't be doing that. Then they said they knew that the store was accepting golf stuff, BUT they then told us that neither of them had worked there for more than 2 weeks and that they could guess and call the owner, but neither could be accurate and that it would be best if we came back during the week when the owner and assistant manager are in. They said they weren't completely sure. This is totally understandable that they wouldn't know after 2 weeks what all the policies are and such, and I appreciate how honest and nice they were. What is totally unacceptable to me is that someone higher in the chain of command had 2 new associates in the store alone. If there is an owner AND an assistant manager, one should be there on a weekend in spring to buy things and be a supervisor. It's a Sunday afternoon in spring when people are cleaning out their garages and doing spring sports. Needless to say I will not be selling or buying things from this store and would suggest they actually follow the policies on their national website. read more

Walked in at 10am on a Friday with my two boys, aged 2.5 and 5. We were looking for soccer balls and cleats for my 5yo starting fall soccer league. The only guy working there wasn't particularly interested in helping after greeting us, even after I told him we were here for soccer stuff. After looking around for about 5 minutes, this guy told me twice to restrain my kids. The boys were taking out some golf clubs, then stood on the treadmill in the back, nothing unusual or damaging compared to other stores we had been to. He made us feel extremely unwelcoming and frankly left no room for me to do any actual shopping. I finally said you know it's hard shopping with kids and we were leaving, he immediately responded back: "Have a great day!" without even looking at us. Excuse, this is a used sporting good store where kids and their parents should be one of your core customer groups. I'm sorry we as customers were there to cause you any nuisance, what the hell were we even thinking to stop by?! My 5 yo left there with tears in his eyes because he wanted to spend more time looking at cleats. Taking my business elsewhere and not looking back. read more

After the operator, Tim, quoted me $40 on a trade toward a golf bag, I made the drive from Sherwood to Beaverton. Upon arriving, I was informed that my trade item was in great condition, but I would only be offered $25 on the trade. When I tried to walk out, Tim counter-offered with $35. $5 is not the issue. He was not in a huge rush to get to everyone in the store but ok would balance everyone corrective you and effectively. Great job!
