We have moved to the Hillsboro area a few months ago, and I had looked at Yelp and Google reviews when determining where to go to have our Trek bikes serviced. When I mentioned Olson's to a few people, they all raved about the shop. We have owned our bikes for over 20 years, but have not ridden them much as we lived in a hilly section of Seattle the last 17 years. Now that we are on a flat surface, we are ready and excited to hit the trails again, but our bikes needed cleaning up and servicing. I was very impressed with Mike and his friendly demeanor. He was quick to service the bikes, and even put a last minute kick stand on my wife's bike. Olson's is definitely the shop for any of your bike needs. read more

This is my 500th Yelp review. Just wanted to put that out there. Executive summary: They had what I wanted and made it super easy to drop in and pick it up. If it wasn't a 40 minute drive from my home, I'd return for all my bike needs. In this season of Covid finding certain fitness equipment has been an epic quest. Go ahead, find a set of barbells between 15-30 pounds. Go ahead, find a spin bike that can be delivered to your home. I was on a wait list for mine for about 6 months. Find a mountain bike. I'll wait. I thought, I'll find one that is from a big brand, that has a lot of stock, and just order it. I did my research and settled on the Trek Marlin 5, for a lot of reasons that are important to me and only me. Then I went to my local shop to order it. They were attentive and sat down at the computer with me and said, ya no. That's backordered until end of the year. It's April now and I don't want it in November. Left disappointed. I went home and searched Trek bikes in ever widening circles from where I live, and guess what? I found it, at Olson's Bike shop in Forest Grove, 24 miles from my home. I had given myself a limit of 150 miles, so this was pretty good. I called and left a message to let them know I wanted it and went to bed hopeful. When they opened in the morning I called again and the owner was funny. He said he was super busy but yes he had the bike. I said, I'M ON MY WAY. When I got there I walked in and there was a young guy putting a bike together and the owner behind the counter and he took one look at me and said, Marlin 5? I guess I had that wild look about me. The young guy got it down from a rack, I gave it a kick in the tires, and then we put it on the card! Getting it in the back of Sarah the Blue Fin Tuna (my mini cooper) wasn't as hard as it could have been, because the front tire comes off real easy. With disc brakes getting it on and off is a breeze and they made sure I knew how to do it before I left. I liked this shop, I liked the men working there, and I liked the way they treated me like a local customer, even though I'm not. They made it real easy and I was comfortable there. I would return for all my bike needs if it was closer to my home. read more

Previous bike shop in Tillamook wanted not only to replace the entire assembly shifting system; but also require a week or more. I couldn't wait that long. Taking a chance here at this shop about an hour drive away, the bike mechanic actually took my Trek bike's rear shifting system apart, adjusted a loose embedded spring, and reassembled it back. It was ready within the same day and the bike still rides perfectly! Without reservation, I highly recommend Olson's for his in depth bike mechanic background, sound detailed oriented, and cost-saving common sense approach. I would go back for any future bike issues; thanks again Olson! read more

Needed a new pedal on my bike as it was very old and the rubber tore off. They had many options but I just needed a very basic pedal. A pair of new pedals cost about $10-15. He even went outside to replace both sides. So helpful and appreciate the great service! read more

As an emerging do-it-yourself bike mechanic, the number of eye rolls, sarcastic comments, and head shakes I've had at bike shops is too many too count. Not so with Mike at Olson's. He always humors my ignorance and was nice enough to lend me a chain whip for my first cassette replacement. Aside from the hospitality, the prices are about as good as you will find in PDX. Needed a new chain and it was a better price than amazon (less than half compared to a shop in Hood River). Mike is also full of info on rides in the area. We rode from FG to the coast and his tips kept us off the heavily traveled routes. Bottom line: Olson's can help any rider find, fix, and feel good about their bike. They'll even help hopelessly destitute grad students develop a love for bikes. read more

A representative from Olson's Bike Repair was at bikeMS: Explore Oregon this past weekend and was a magician in putting my bike and my husband's bike back into working order on day two of the ride. It wasn't an easy repair and he did it... without payment! Our next bike purchase will definitely be at Olson's (even though it's really out of the way) just to show our loyalty to a business that really helped us out and provided a great service to a charity bike ride. read more

My riding buddy's cassette basically exploded on a weekend trip to the coast. Luckily for us, the explosion occurred one mile from Olson's Bicycle Repair. I admit we both despaired that the trip was doomed at the moment of mechanical, but Olson's had us on the road lickety split. There is nothing better than having a relationship with your bike shop. Local friendly and responsive. I recently needed a Campy bottom bracket just 2 days before a 5 day bike tour. The only place that had one was in Seattle. I thought I was in for a quick trio north. Low and behold Mike called a customer that collects Campy stuff and procured one for me to use. He installed and adjusted everything better than new in plenty of time for my tour! Talk about customer service! Thanks Mike!!! read more

While I don't care for shops with employees that constantly pester me with offers of help while I look around, this shop has twice ignored me while chatting with what seemed to be riding buddies, even when I was at the counter waiting to pay or get service. I want to shop local so I may come back, but not before trying out our other local bike shop. read more

I took my four kids in with me today. I was ignored, no greeting not even an, "I'll be right with you" until the guy at the front realized my kids weren't very shop friendly, he then hollered for help to someone. The next guy was super helpful but when I didn't have just one dollar to pay for the attachment and asked if they wanted me to use my debit card the first guy finally spoke to me and said, "Just take it."
