    Rainy day tasting
    Kim G.

Three words. Blood Red Barbera. The best red I have ever tasted! So good, that I may be compelled to become a Club member just to have access to this elusive red and secure it at a significant discount! Located on Oak Street in downtown Hood River, I scheduled a tasting on a rainy Sunday. They came highly recommended from Stave & Stone across the street. A fan of Italian reds, I opted for the tasting of five reds, starting with a Tempranillo which was too light for my tastes. I enjoyed the Reserve Cabernet, really liked the Syrah and Nebbiolo, then fell in love with the Blood Red Barbera. Mic drop! Even though it was a five flight tasting, they offered me two additional tastes so I could do side by sides. Turned out I preferred the house Cab over the Reserve Cabernet that was offered in the flight. But my favorite - other than the Blood Red Barbera which is in a league of it's own - was the Syrah. It was fruit forward with peppery back notes, a fantastic wine to drink now. So good that I bought a bottle to enjoy with our Thanksgiving dinner. And since I purchased a bottle, the $15 tasting fee was waived. Now to that elusive Red Blood Barbara. One sip, and I wanted to buy a case! They had none available, so clearly I'm not the only one in love with their award winning wine. A fan of big and bold, the Blood Red was all that and more. Jammy without being too sweet, complex yet smooth enough to drink on its own; to sip while enjoying a charcuterie; or savor with a meal. As I said earlier, I may join the Club just to have access to this wine! The server, Erin, was energetic and just a delight. She is clearly passionate about the wine, offers her knowledge on the vineyard, the soil and their process and the the wines. I could tell that she enjoys watching others experience Cascade Cliff wines, especially if it's their first time. Zach came by at the end and offered another taste bringing the total tastes to 8, which was extremely generous. Since they are a boutique vineyard that doesn't distribute, the way to acquire customers is through tastings that lead to club membership. They have it nailed. Planning a visit to Wishram on the WA side of the Columbia River to experience their vineyard location and try their wines again. Their wines are pricy so I need to be sure I like many varieties before I commit to the Club, especially since I'm already a member at a few others. If you are a club member, tastings are free at all four of their locations And when you buy wine in addition to the release cases, they offer a substantial discount.

First of all, poor reviewer am I because I took NO photos. Y'all I'm going to be super honest on this review. We had been at one vineyard for a barrel tasting from 12-1:30. We had a LOT of wine. And then went to another vineyard for 4 tastings (4 types of wine...4 glasses of tasting wine,) and ate snacks. Like crackers and cheese spreads, nuts, etc. so that was from 2-3 then we headed here. (Don't worry we had a ride no one drove. We couldn't have!) So, we were 4 tipsy ladies at this point. And the service we had at the second vineyard was awful. This was the complete OPPOSITE experience. Danielle and her team were THE most attentive, kindest, and fun. The tasting room was BUSY and full. There weren't any other spots so they definitely were slammed but we didn't get that experience. While they had 4 wines listed to taste, we had at least twice that many. But we were a mess. Giggling and unable to keep our attention on the wines and presentation. I lived the tea towel we found shopping the next day that said "I should really stop drinking" "Don't listen to her, she's drunk!" We owe CC tasting room another visit. When we have a full stomach and an empty wine reservoir in our tummy. We need to give honest reviews of the wines because the service and tasting room were wonderful. I don't remember being able to give honest perspective on the wines though so we 100% owe it to return. Thank you to the staff for dealing with us and for the hospitality. We will return NOT drunk and capable of doing an attentive tasting!

Went here on a hot Tuesday afternoon. The tasting room is cute and inviting with good seating options. It is conveniently located in the downtown area with ample street parking. We spent sometime here beating the heat and absolutely enjoyed our tasting experience thanks to Steven. He took good care of us and kept the pours coming(he also offered to open up new bottles). No complaints there because we love Cascade Cliffs wines. Would love to visit again.

I purchased a Groupon so one evening my wife and I stopped in and sampled 5 different wines, none of which proved particularly interesting. I was expecting to receive a cheese platter, but apparently that has been eliminated with a 5th glass of wine substituted.

There was plenty of parking, though the road up is very steep, so make sure your E-brake is working! There are two outdoor seating areas, one just outside the main entrance, and one overlooking the river. The area overlooking the river is not open to people just tasting, but it looked like the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. The interior tasting room (where we sat) is luxurious while still being comfortable. The ambiance of the entire place is lovely, and there is beautiful art and charming knick-knacks everywhere. I was pleased to see all of the pride flags-- it's cool to know you're drinking in a safe place. The woman pouring also let us know that the winery has a literary/witchy theme, which I thought was fun and an excellent conversation-starter. The wine was good. I like German varietals, and this place clearly knows how to do them well! The Gruner was my favorite, and we ended up getting an extra taste of the early harvest to compare to the mid-season, which was lovely. We also got an extra pour of some bubbles because someone else had ordered a glass. The woman pouring was incredibly friendly, very knowledgeable, and even had the winemaker herself come and chat with us for a moment. Tastings were $25 for a decent pour of 5 wines (though we ended up tasting 7) and they come with a little cheese/olive plate to boot! I was very impressed by the experience offered here. It seems this winery also does a number of events, which I am looking forward to attending. This was an amazing find, and I highly recommend you drive the extra 15 minutes out of Hood River/White Salmon if you are visiting to taste.

Fast forward, we planned a stop at Loop De Loop after hiking Multnomah and Wahkeena Falls. It was one of the best surprises of the whole trip to Oregon. I expected Loop De Loop to be a small, modest vineyard and instead I discovered an absolutely stunning vineyard nestled in the picturesque hills of the Columbia Valley. I opted for the full tasting and I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed the breadth and diversity of the wine offerings. And the wine is made organically!!! We actually enjoyed the wine and experience at Loop De Loop more than any vineyard we visited in Williamette Valley. We also tried the cheese plate and tinned fish, which were delicious. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating. I love the decor and art throughout the building. Service was really good. I dont recall the name of the young woman with red hair helping us out, but she was fantastic. This place gets pretty busy so I recommend reservations. Definitely check it out! Even if you're in Portland, it's worth the quick trek into Washington.

The wines were the star of our experience. WINE: 5.0. The certified wine expert among us could take only 2 bottles back with her to Japan from the 11 WA and OR wineries we visited during our road trip: one of her choices was a Savage Grace Cabernet Franc. SERVICE: 4.5. Michael Savage was the sole server, and thus we were able to talk directly with the winemaker. We appreciated his unpolished explanations about the style of wines he strives for, and about his vineyards and winery. He also pointed us to a great viewpoint a few minutes away. AMBIANCE: 4.5. We sat outside next to some production equipment; somewhat rustic, and with a nice view of the Columbia Gorge.

Let me start by saying the quality of wine and the view are the only reason I gave it a 2 star review. When we arrived we were fully aware of their 2 bottle purchase policy if you do a tasting. Which you should be aware of if visiting. There was a group of 5 of us, 2 who were prepared to purchase at least 4 bottles and do the tasting, 1 who doesn't drink and wanted to see the views, and 2 designated drivers for 2 cars. First the lady asked if we had reservations which we did not. The place was nearly empty with just one other couple. She then proceeded to say before we start you let's make sure our winery is a good fit for you and then began to interrogate us about those not drinking. She tried to push smaller pours with what they call a designated driver plan for the designated drivers which we declined. Still not seated through an interrogation of our intentions, she pushed the DD plan on our 3rd person who said she felt we weren't going to get seated if she didn't accept. The tasting was super slow and took almost 2 hours. We've visited numerous wineries but this is a first where they tried to push alcohol on the designated driver. The condescending way we were greeted and treated is not worth the ok tasting wine and spectacular views. We will not be back with our next winery excursion in the Hood River area.

We were thrilled to be there on one of the first sunny days in a very rainy 2022 Spring, so we sat on the sunny patio with the bright blue skies and native plants as the backdrop. We were greeted with a glass of Cab Franc Rose, which I had never had before, and we both really enjoyed it. We selected the flight since it was our first time having COR wine and we wanted a variety. The flight arrives in a tin bucket with individual carafes of each pour. There were four plus a complimentary pour, so three whites and two reds. Of the whites, the Cab Fran Rose remained my fave and I also enjoyed the Pinot Gris which was crisp and light. I'm a fan of big, bold reds but because of the sun, the red wines got so hot that we couldn't drink them which was really unfortunate. They did include a small bag of ice in the bucket to keep the wines cool but it was no match for the sun. Next time, even if I am tempted by the sun, I will select a seating area in the shade so we can enjoy all of the wines in the tasting. To round out our experience, we ordered the charcuterie for $35. COR continues to be very careful with Covid protocols so the charcuterie is a kit that you put together. Olympic Provisions salami, a box of hearty crackers, Marcona almonds and casteveltrano olives in mason jars, and a soft cheese were provided; all delicious. Service was warm and friendly, they answered our questions thoroughly. Some customers like to have the staff pour each taste and explain the wine; at COR you pour your own and info on the wines is provided on a card. I prefer it this way so I can drink at my speed and our conversation isn't continuously interrupted with a description of the next wine. Everyone has their own preference but this style works for me.
