I really enjoyed our visit here this summer. The wines were good, the atmosphere was really chill and the staff members were friendly and inviting. The service is absolutely worst service I've had for wine tasting. First they did not tell us what was going on or how many tasting came with the flight. We waited so long to get our first pour. The water was not brought until the second pour. We finally got our fourth pour and the bottle ran out and said she would be right back to give us the rest of our pour and started helping everyone else. The lady was supposed to come back with another glass of water which never ended up arriving. No one told us it was our final pour and we didn't even have someone loop back around to ask us if we wanted a glass or to buy a bottle. We were left for 40 min alone waiting to be helped and saw about 4 people get in and out before we even got our last pour. When I finally called someone over she was a little rude about it. I can't say enough about Rachael at the downtown tasting room. We visited the winery in Washington, but we're staying in Hood River... We wine tasted samples from the tasting sheet, and decided on a case as it was the best way to go... When it came time to select from the tastings, we were told the price... * and then we were told that they don't have them??? It became a huge mess and left with wine we'd not tried, and without our case pricing??? *Next day we dropped by the Hood River tasting room. Rachael looked at the billing invoice and took care of the whole mess, gaining another, "New Member"! So professional, and such a pleasure, in every way. Three words. Blood Red Barbera. The best red I have ever tasted! So good, that I may be compelled to become a Club member just to have access to this elusive red and secure it at a significant discount! Located on Oak Street in downtown Hood River, I scheduled a tasting on a rainy Sunday. They came highly recommended from Stave & Stone across the street. A fan of Italian reds, I opted for the tasting of five reds, starting with a Tempranillo which was too light for my tastes. I enjoyed the Reserve Cabernet, really liked the Syrah and Nebbiolo, then fell in love with the Blood Red Barbera. Mic drop! Even though it was a five flight tasting, they offered me two additional tastes so I could do side by sides. Turned out I preferred the house Cab over the Reserve Cabernet that was offered in the flight. But my favorite - other than the Blood Red Barbera which is in a league of it's own - was the Syrah. It was fruit forward with peppery back notes, a fantastic wine to drink now. So good that I bought a bottle to enjoy with our Thanksgiving dinner. And since I purchased a bottle, the $15 tasting fee was waived. Now to that elusive Red Blood Barbara. One sip, and I wanted to buy a case! They had none available, so clearly I'm not the only one in love with their award winning wine. A fan of big and bold, the Blood Red was all that and more. Jammy without being too sweet, complex yet smooth enough to drink on its own; to sip while enjoying a charcuterie; or savor with a meal. As I said earlier, I may join the Club just to have access to this wine! The server, Erin, was energetic and just a delight. She is clearly passionate about the wine, offers her knowledge on the vineyard, the soil and their process and the the wines. I could tell that she enjoys watching others experience Cascade Cliff wines, especially if it's their first time. Zach came by at the end and offered another taste bringing the total tastes to 8, which was extremely generous. Since they are a boutique vineyard that doesn't distribute, the way to acquire customers is through tastings that lead to club membership. They have it nailed. Planning a visit to Wishram on the WA side of the Columbia River to experience their vineyard location and try their wines again. Their wines are pricy so I need to be sure I like many varieties before I commit to the Club, especially since I'm already a member at a few others. First of all, poor reviewer am I because I took NO photos. Y'all I'm going to be super honest on this review. We had been at one vineyard for a barrel tasting from 12-1:30. We had a LOT of wine. And then went to another vineyard for 4 tastings (4 types of wine...4 glasses of tasting wine,) and ate snacks. Like crackers and cheese spreads, nuts, etc. so that was from 2-3 then we headed here. (Don't worry we had a ride no one drove. We couldn't have!) So, we were 4 tipsy ladies at this point. And the service we had at the second vineyard was awful. This was the complete OPPOSITE experience. Danielle and her team were THE most attentive, kindest, and fun. The tasting room was BUSY and full. There weren't any other spots so they definitely were slammed but we didn't get that experience. While they had 4 wines listed to taste, we had at least twice that many. But we were a mess. Giggling and unable to keep our attention on the wines and presentation. I lived the tea towel we found shopping the next day that said "I should really stop drinking" "Don't listen to her, she's drunk!" We owe CC tasting room another visit. When we have a full stomach and an empty wine reservoir in our tummy. We need to give honest reviews of the wines because the service and tasting room were wonderful. I don't remember being able to give honest perspective on the wines though so we 100% owe it to return. Thank you to the staff for dealing with us and for the hospitality. I've been to Cascade Cliffs 4 or 5 times now and have a wonderful experience every time. They have some really interesting, very delicious wine that you don't see a lot of in the area. My absolute favorite is their Blood Red Barbera, but good luck getting a bottle! If you come for a special event make sure to let the hostess know. Cascade Cliffs is another beautiful setting on the Washington side of the Columbia River. The setting feels more rustic that its neighbor Jacob Williams and the wines share that same sentiment. We came when it was a bit busy but we were set up at a barrel close to the wine bar and were quickly poured our first glass of wine, a 2011 Nebbiolo. We settled in, introduced ourselves to Max (attention loving pooch) and soaked in the charm of one of the oldest wineries in the Columbia River Gorge. There were a couple of stellar wines that we were able to taste here. My favorite wine was the 2011 Tempranillo. As I mentioned before, the wines here match the rustic charm. If you have never had a Tempranillo, you can smell the rich almost leather like scent. This probably sounds quite odd but reality is this wine was exceptional. I bought a bottle for myself and at the advice of Jared, I will wait until 2015 before I allow myself to indulge. My final though for Cascade Cliffs is that I really appreciated them letting us taste more than what was on their tasting list. We sampled eight different wines (one was a barrel sample) and I walked away not just with a couple of bottles of wine but also seriously contemplating whether or not I am going to join their wine club. read more

After spending two hours standup paddle boarding on the river, we needed to cool down with some good wine. A friend of ours purchased a Groupon for Cascade Cliffs, which included four wine tastings (of 5+ flights) and two cheese plates. All for $30. It sounds like they attract a lot of Portlanders with this Groupon, but it works, because I don't know that I would have checked out Cascade Cliff otherwise. Joni, our server, was pleasant. We learned that her brother owns the vineyard, so she was knowledgeable about the different grapes and blends. The inside was nice. They sell some different lotions at the front, and they have a jug of ice-cold water and glasses available. I really liked that they showcase their oldest (30-year-old) Merlot grapevine as decoration. While it was clean and cool inside, it was quiet, and I think the place could benefit from some soft background music. My favorite wine was the Paisian--a Sangiovese and Merlot blend. The cheese selection was tasty, but it wasn't labeled, so we didn't know what cheese we were enjoying. Overall, it was a nice afternoon pitstop. read more

She didn't explain anything to us. They also only offered 4 tastings for $15, where the others usually offered 6 for the same price. I will put the good up front. The staff is very friendly and the wine we drank in the tasting room was very good. However, I don't recommend buying any bottles of wine from them. We bought six different bottles of wine and when we opened them at home they ranged from lackluster to horribly undrinkable. As if it were some kind of wine Russian Roulette. The Tempranillo I had at the shop was exceptional, but the Tempranillo I brought home could only be described as underwhelming. I had a taste of the Reserve Zinfandel and it was superb. The bottle of Reserve Zinfandel that I opened at home was pure vinegar. Ironically the least expensive bottle of wine, The Goats Head Red, was the best and it still ranked on the level of cheap supermarket wine. Hopefully they can get their quality control up to par because there is a marked difference from what was served in the shop to what was sold to me. read more
