I work with a lot of talented physical therapists, and my good friend and co-founder of Clinicient Jerry Henderson researched clinics in Portland to give my wife the recommendation of Portland Sports Medicine and Spine Physical Therapy. He chose them based on their background in the McKenzie spine techniques of manual therapy that are evidence based and provide results that have not only freed her from pain, but started the restoration of function after only a few visits. We have been elated with the results. From the initial experience of setting an appointment, to the reception by the front office staff, to the handling of our somewhat challenging insurance provider (United Healthcare), to the outcomes my wife has experienced, our experience has been nothing short of AMAZING. She injured her back and shoulder and was practically immobilized from the pain. She went to a chiropractor and massage therapists, and while those offered temporary relief from the pain, they did not address the core issues. Michael took the time to understand my wife's injury and did everything he could to fit her into a VERY busy schedule including making early morning appointments available and using his lunch break to treat her. They again told me it was definitely covered and to keep coming and not worry about it. It wasn't. Now i am stuck with 7 weeks of unpaid bills, and they insist i signed a document saying i would pay (after they assured me it was totally covered). There are plenty of good PT offices in Portland, why go with one with a business model that relies on deception and harassment. Don't believe a word they say to you. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), he and I have the exact same work schedule, which made it difficult for me to get in for appointments so I searched for another provider and stumbled upon Evolve Performance Healthcare. What I was looking for was a long-term solution for my lower back pain and newly developed sciatic nerve pain. After a year of no bone growth (non-union), I finally found a very experienced orthopedic surgeon who told me that he'd never heard of her, and that her inexperience led to surgical error. The way that she put the screws in lifted the bones apart, leaving a gap that was too large for the bones to join back together. He had to redo the surgery, remove the screws, do a bone graft, and put in a plate. Lara Atwater gave me false hope and never admitted that she botched my surgery. I am so glad that I found an honest surgeon who could fix her mistake. I would never go back to Dr. Atwater after all of the pain and suffering she put me through.
