It's really good to get off road have full hookups and sleep for the night. About half or more seemed like full timers. A little confusing on how to get to site and since there is no office no one to ask. If going through area and need to stop for the night I would stay here again.

He had three leashes and three very large dogs, and when I ran around the camper to find what the commotion was, I found him standing with his three big dogs who were attacking my 9-pound Havapoo. Her entire leg is bruised. I learned my lesson. Never assumed that people will control their dogs. This man shouted at me with the F word while he stood and watched his three large-breed dogs attack my little dog. Nobody should take three dogs on a leash if they are not capable of keeping the dogs from doing harm. Never again will I make that mistake. Lucy will stay in the truck during set up. I'll never stay there again.

This is a sweet campground with nice people, a great camp host, and beautiful views. The sites are close together and this would be great for families. You can hear all the conversations everywhere. I wouldn't go for the solitude. The place is buzzing with activity and joy and just enough nature and roughing it to feel like you've accomplished something. Really try to book a site near the river. Firewood is for sale. Water spigots available. Bathrooms what you would expect. Not the worst. Expect lots of dogs and conversation. Deer spotting on the mountainside. The weather seems to change quickly so pack for a little of everything. Ps. You can float a little ways down and hop out on the river bank by the road. Climb the giant hill. Go down and get in the river on that side and it loops you around to the campground. A fun challenge.

Regardless, it gets five stars for being the rare trail outpost staffed for lodging purposes and a welcome waypoint for the mountain weary. It should probably get another five stars for being open year-round and through the deep snow months. Folks on the 25-mile trek appreciate all that it is.

The trail I think is the perfect length, it does feel a little longer than 2.8 miles out and back. I'd say this is a moderate hike. You can bring dogs on this trail. I don't think it is super friendly for young children. I personally would get pretty exhausted if I had to backpack up my toddler. But for the older kids it would be a good one. Definitely add this one to your list! I think it is my favorite hike I have done so far on the front range!

This review is for Crag's trail and not the campgrounds. I was in the mood for a moderate hike that…read moreshowed off all the Aspen foliage as we put September behind us and this trail was everything I set out for it to be and more. Once you make that left from US-64 you have about a 3 mile drive up a dirt road and from there you will see the parking lot to the right. The trailhead is easily marked making it almost impossible to miss (#664). The parking lot is fairly small and heavily trafficked so I'd recommend arriving earlier the better. 5 miles down and back. The first mile is mainly switchbacks but smoothes out the remainder of the hike. The aspens showed off their vibrant yellow colors which made the hike that much more enjoyable. The weather can change drastically especially when you make it to the top. It was raining and pretty windy when i got up there so a jacket is highly recommended. As well as good hiking boots as you experience different types of terrain, particularly at the top where it's mainly rocks. There are bathrooms at the trailhead parking lot which is extremely convenient. Especially for my hour drive trek back home to Colorado Springs. Give this hike a go!

You have a good set of grass, trees, and space in between which gives you a nice piece of privacy! The views.....spectacular....just beautiful! The nightly rates are cheap! There is hiking nearby, and lots of space to just relax. The site host is very nice and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed and to make sure the roads are clear from vehicles for other guests.

When visiting Colorado, I had a lot more places on my list than I knew we would be able to visit…read morejust because of how amazing the state is. I know a lot of people drive up from Texas, but it's for a good reason...we just don't have the mountains, and the amount of waterfalls in our area. If you have to choose one thing to do, I would definitely choose to come to helen hunt falls. Its adventurous enough to feel like you actually did something, but safe enough to know that you are able to go to a small store to get snacks or use a bathroom if needed. I chose to not hike up to the falls, and instead go down into the river bank. The rocks are very slippery, so be careful. The water is really cold, but it's so refreshing on a hot July day. We had a blast coming here. And one of the best things is that it was absolutely free! I would definitely come here again, and I'm already making sure it's on our list for next time!

The twisty roads might be a little challenging for some drivers but it is definitely worth the drive if you can make it here!
