When I find the best of something, I know it. Caseys earns it's five stars on one quality alone: The Burger. While the atmosphere is 3 stars, and the service is probably 3.5 stars, and the beer options are less than spectacular, how could this possibly be a 5 star review? Casey's makes the best burger in the Midwest that I've had. They take pride in the way they cook it, and it always comes out to order. The bun is soft and just the right size, so you are not eating too much burger, or too much bun on any one bite. Both the onion rings and fries make it perfect plate. I love the cheddar cheese, but all their cheeses are sound. Add a little ketchup, mustard, schrooms, onions, and you've got yourself a lot of brilliant calories. Give the burger a whirl. If you like your meat cooked medium or higher, go to Chili's. read more

The kind of place you love to go to. It has a relaxed atmosphere, tasty burgers, and fun wait staff keep you laughing. It attracts a wide age group and has a 'Cheers' like ambiance. Five stars for being a low key bar, with yummy food. An extra shout our for being a bar that doesn't smell like beer has been lingering on the floor for 15 years. The only thing that bums me out are the whiskey prices. Everything else is so reasonable it's a shame the whiskey has to be 8.50 a pop. Don't get me wrong that is the going price, but for a place like Casey's where everything else seems to have a nice price break it'd be nice to get that in what just so happens to be my drink of choice as well. read more

I went here on a Thursday evening, and the place was jam-packed. We went to put our name in, and the man didn't say a word. Just wrote the name down--no wait time or telling us where to sit/stand (there was nowhere to sit now that I think about it). So we stood awkwardly by the door while the many bustling waitresses bumped into us while carrying food out. Around twenty minutes later, we were brought to a nice round table. Immediately noticed the dirty silverware--mine had fingerprints all over them, and my friend's had a rotten lettuce looking thing stuck to the fork. Yuck. The food was decent itself, but a little over-priced for what it was. Had a few Blue Moons too, which are always great. All in all, probably won't be going back here anytime soon. read more

Personally I'd lean toward 3 stars, but my fiancee would happily give them 5 so I'm compromising here. Great local spot with pretty great pub fare. They're not putting out gourmet flavor but they've got some serious must-eats. The onion rings, for example. It's a meal in itself, and not in a bad way. Their barbecue sauce, also, is hit or miss depending on the batch but when its a hit, I feel like I could take a bath in it. Drench myself in it from head to toe then lick it off of myself. I would even invite you to dip it off me with whatever you want and you'd love it. Fish & chips. Their sandwiches. Decent wine selection, given the atmosphere. Quirky-friendly and very efficient service, which I love. Just skip the jambalaya. read more

Casey's is awesome. It is always on my top 5 places to go. Especially with the kids. I can have a beer and they can watch sports on one of the 6 flat screens. They think it is cool they can face each other and both be watching the same thing. I always order the same thing: Veggie burger with L, T, O and blue cheese and guacamole. wow. My friend Drew makes a sauce for the fries that will kick your butt: Side of mayo, stir in 2 tbsps. of that nice honey mustard and three shakes of clancy's hot sauce. Now dip your fries in that. Also, the wait staff rocks. They have been there for ever, which might not be a good thing for them, but I love them. They know what I like. One suggestion: move toward the new fad! When the waitress threw down the drink coasters on the table that should have been a indication of the service we were about to get, it didn't get any better. We had time to kill and were just going to have drinks and a snack. We ordered chips an salsa, don't order it the chip are horrible, stale and low quality. After serving us we were never checked on again, there was only another table and ours with patrons at the time. The waitress was more interested in her phone. We had to shout out twice we'd like another round of drinks. Your tip is based on your service, which we left 10% for her. After looking at the signed copy the waitress yelled out "REALLY". Casey's is a neat place, described well by the reviewers before me, so I won't spend too much time standing on their shoulders. I had a great pork burrito here, and the lady - inspired by Allen L. - dove into the Meatless Joe and was pretty happy about having done so. My other friend got a "Sixth Man" which was less exciting than it sounded... Overall, I'll be back at least once more, to try a burger, and probably a third time for the reuben. I'd also recommend that others check it out. But it's not too high on the priority list for me. read more

Go and get their BBQ Catwich. It is so good! I have also tried their turkey burgers and it is pretty yummy as well. The Turkey burgers have great flavors, but it's just a tad dry. It actually taste just like Red Robin's turkey burgers & I love Red Robin's greasy turkey burgers! Fries come out pipping hot to accompany your burger or sandwich and they are crispy on the outside, yet soft on the inside (like how fries should be!). This bar/tavern is definitely not filled with rowdy undergrads. The times that I have been here, there is a mix of yuppies, locals, and grad students, which is pretty cool. Drinks are pretty cheap for the area and it's usually not too busy where you have to elbow your way to the bar to get a drink. Plus parking is much easier to find here than at central campus restaurants. There is meter parking all around or you can park near Kerrytown area (free 2 hour parking on residential streets before 6pm and free after 6pm, Mon-Fri, & of course free on weekends). I come here for the food and I repeat: You must try the BBQ Catwich! I have to let you know that on one or two occasion my catfish fillet was burned :(, but I have hope that they will make it right for you, because it comes out great most of the times I have ordered it! read more

I love Casey's Tavern: Food is great - staff are wonderful and sometimes charmingly quirky...many have worked there for years. Burgers are fantastic and sandwiches are high quality. Yum. Try getting a hot pastrami on rye with raw onions and Gryuere, plus a side of their awesome garlicky ranch dressing for your fries - it will give you breath-of-death but it's sooo delicious. Being a stone's throw away from Casey's we walked here Saturday night for dinner in the midst of the Michigan game. Needless to say, they were very busy and we expected to wait for a table for three people. Hostess (who was very nice) put our name down and not 5 min later we got a table, sweet! Our waitress was slow and rarely came to our table to ask if we needed anything or to ask how our meal was. She was very soft spoken and when my boyfriend's mother was trying to figure out alternatives to french fries with her sandwich she never piped in to say what else she could have. The only input she had was that a substitute for veggies is $2 extra. I ordered a burger, supposedly the hot item, with smoked mozzarella, bacon and jalapeno chutney. I ordered it medium, and it was a bit under-cooked. I like a little pink, but not the amount I got. Also, the burger meat tasted a little old and lacked seasoning. Add some salt to your burger please, as the toppings added very little flavor. I expected the jalapeno chutney to be spicy, but it was more tomato based and underwhelming. Fries were great but man are they skimpy with them. Overall, I like coming here for beer, always have, but their food and service can be a hit or miss. read more

One of my favorite places in Ann Arbor, I used to go here with labmates about once a week when working late. Good quality, reliable food at reasonable prices, nice atmosphere, adequate beer selection (though limited ones on tap), friendly service. Love the assortment of mustards on the table (including honeycup). Highlights are the build-your-own burger (when I want a burger in A2, this is where I go), the meatless joe, and the onion rings. I'm also a fan of the dip and the steak Caesar salad, but the truth is that I rarely stray beyond the burger. There tends to be a bit of a wait, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, which is worth it on all but the coldest nights when there isn't space to wait inside. read more

Casey's is pretty grease-tacular (No less than half the food on the menu is fried, I swear), but it is the best grease-laden food in Ann Arbor. Really tasty burgers, and a good beer selection. It's like an upper-crust Blimpy Burger, for when you want to impress your date and ply them with beer. The only crappy things are: 1. When you order a burger, Lettuce, tomato and onion count as one of the "pick three for no charge" toppings - rip off! and 2. It closes at like 11pm, so go early... Casey's is generally a reliable stand-by. For twenty years, I've enjoyed the burgers, salads, & the homemade soups. Gourmet? No, but satisfying and good quality. Last night my partner ordered the "Pasta Special"--the only thing special about it was the mediocrity. It was angel hair pasta with beef & a "zesty marinara sauce." It was bland, had no sauce to speak of--just beef, chopped tomatoes & some cheese. Before ordering, my partner asked the waitress about the dish. She replied "oh, I love angel hair!" Huh? Trying to get out the rain, i stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a try. This place does remind me a lot of sidetracks ( with the exception of the fact that their tallest beer is a pint, and not the big mugs like sidetracks and no where near the happy hour specials like them). Both spicy wings starter taste the same ( which is great, your typical coney island wings , but my favorites nonetheless). Now for my main meal, i had their burger (which they allow you to pick any 3 toppings you want) and fries (similar to Red Robin's fries). The burger was amazing here ( two things: the burger is very very similar to sidetracks, and you must have some hot sauce made in Ann Arbor (although i can't remember the name of it, its on the tray at your table) on your burger, it takes it up another notch) and the fries were good too. Wow. I'm taken aback by the brevity of my previous review! Here's what I should've written: Casey's has the best burger deal in a2. For under ten bucks, you get a Knight's beef burger cooked to order on an onion roll w/3 toppings of your choosing and fries. By the way...toppings include Tillamook cheddar and housemade guacamole, among others (black olives, bacon, house-made jalepeno chutney, etc.). BEAT THAT! The fries are steak fries and while not my absolute favorite type of fry, they are cooked perfectly (I prefer 'em fried to a crispy well done). Need something to dip them in? How about the vast array of condiments that sit so conveniently on your table? Their giNORmous onion rings are some of the tastiest I've ever had. A crunchy slightly tangy beer batter exterior surrounds the thick chewy onion slice inside. Makes a *great* appetizer to share because, trust me, these are waaay too yummy&greeeasy to finish on your own. Oh but you'll want to. You'll want to very much. But don't. I'm also partial to their salads, particularly the southwestern steak caesar. Paired with an order of fries (I'm sharing again, of course), it's the perfect not-too-indulgent meal. Every summer they offer homemade gazpacho, served in a big mug topped with sour cream. Great summer lunch (especially with an Oberon!). A great spot in Ann Arbor I should visit more often. Right near the Amtrak station and Kerrytown, Casey's has the best burger in Ann Arbor. Seriously. There are other offerings on the menu but they don't matter. K and I pop in sometimes to split a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mayo and one order of fries. That's all we need. Yum. Due to an extensive home renovation we have been without a kitchen for eight months now. In that time, I've dedicated myself to an extensive survey of every single hamburger available for purchase in the Ann Arbor area. I'm here to tell you, Casey's is the winner. They probably have other good food too, but I vouch for the hamburger. It was good enough that I will never be able to order anything else from the menu. And I'll be back regularly. Ambiance is "townie." It's a bar near the train station. It's a bar that cares a lot that you have a wide variety of mustard ready to hand at your table. The waitress was brusque but also friendly and jokey. In fact, all of the staff have been friendly in a genuine way. My waitress brought me a Diet Coke instead of a Coke and then remembered her mistake and said, "I'm not implying that you could be thinner." At a previous visit when I sat at the bar the bartender told me he thought we had a lot in common. I don't think he was trying to pick me up, it's just the kind of conversation that happens there. read more

The wait was crazy long, the food was pretty spiffy. They seriously do not joke about the onion rings thou, man they are HUGE! Wish they had a better draft selection. Our servers are normally pretty awesome, however last time I was in my burger was temped wrong and had to be sent back. Nothing was done to make up for it and I had to eat while my guest had finished quite a while before I even got to start my food. Except for that one bad experience, I highly recommend and can say that it hasn't been a normal thing for us. read more

I took a summer class in Ann Arbor in 2010. Each day, on the way back to my car, I would stop inside Casey's to enjoy a beer. Within a few weeks I was eating dinner once or twice a week. My class ended in July, and I returned to my home town. Recently, I returned to Casey's and was immediately recognized by some of the waitresses. And this is the reason I have continued to visit this establishment each time I am in Ann Arbor. I have been consistently impressed with the exceptional variety and superb preparation of the food. Specifically the specials. I have never experienced tavern food with such depth and variety. It is as if a bored chef resides in the kitchen and kicks everything up a notch to show his underutilized talents. Without a doubt recommended to anyone in the area. read more

Casey's is a solid 3 star townie establishment. I'm glad that it exists, but I almost never think to go here. This is in part because when we have tried to pop in for a burger after work, we've found it so crowded that there was a 30-45 minute wait. That's what happens when you have reasonable prices in a town with $10 burgers and $20 sandwiches. Or when the decor is reminiscent of an old time sports bar with relaxed and unpretentious service to match. This also due to the fact that there's nothing really remarkable about the food at Casey's. And sometimes that's just what you want - a generous burger, fries, and a beer, no frills. I still think that $4.75 is steep for a garden salad - actually, that's what we paid at the Roadhouse last week - but I can't complain about the burger big enough for two. There are plenty of solid options, much of which will appeal to your little brother or your relative whose idea of fancy food includes tartar sauce. So yeah, Casey's. Don't go out of your way to go there, but be thankful that it exists. read more

They have great long islands, I will definitely give them that! They're $10 a pop and have a 2 long island limit, but as a small girl, one does the trick! I haven't tried much of their food items, but I snagged a few fries off friends plates and they were tasty. I was buzzed off that long island, so to remember the fries is a good sign. I am super intrigued by the large amount of mustards and sauces they give you on the table. I'm a condiment lover, so I'll surely be back to try them all. The only thing that sucked, is that I was meeting a group of friends there so I just walked in and sat down with them. Apparently the door guy hadn't been at the door, so I had three separate employees rush over to me and ask for my ID like I had tried to pull a fast one. Then, my waitress asked for my ID before she even said hi to me. So, that was a little intense and people were starring. I'm 30 years old, so they could have chilled out a bit. read more

The pub burger here is truly delicious. It is cooked correctly on a lightly toasted bun. Your choice of three toppings. You should be able to come close to your dreamburger with that setup. I also like the Michigan Tap, an always rotating tap for local brews. Finally, I had 5 mustards, 4 hot sauces, and other condiments on my table. I think that is cool. One of the condiments was Clancy's hot sauce. This local concoction is worth seeking out if you are visiting the area. read more

Sadly I admit that I've been going to Casey's because it's very close to my house. However, I keep going back because it's my kind of place: casual, friendly, and not over-saturated with drunk coeds. Everything I've ordered from Casey's has been very good...from the grilled cheese to a meatloaf sandwich and even a ground beef burrito. Everything is prepared with fresh ingredients with a great home cooked flavor. Casey's has a decent selection of beer as well. Both domestic and imports. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating and the prices are very reasonable. I started going to Casey's when I was in college. It was one of those places that when family or friends visited from out of town, we would go to Casey's. The food is always delicious, and in comparison to other places in Ann Arbor, the prices are fairly reasonable. Now that I live in the Detroit area, every time my fiance and I go to Ann Arbor, we always seem to end up at Casey's. I love their sandwiches, their burgers are great, and their onion rings are the yardstick by which i judge all others. I can't speak for the lunch hour, but Casey's is always packed on weekend nights, so expect a wait! Even eating at the bar is popular, so just be ready to for a herd of people milling in the doorway waiting for their table. The staff is really friendlly and works hard to accomidate all of those waiting people. read more

Went here for a work lunch at the recommendation of the boss. What a solid burger joint. Two words - Miami Rolls. That's right, none of that kaiser bs, all their burgers are on perfectly fresh Miami rolls and man what a difference that makes. Very above average burger and a good tap list to boot. MEATLESS JOE. That's right, I'm yelling. I love Casey's. It makes me feel like a human being. Which is to say, I feel very much at ease here and that my expectations for low-key dining out are being fulfilled. Another way of saying it would be, whenever I'm at Casey's it seems to make sense. That's often not true of me and restaurants. The Sidetrack in Ypsi (to which Casey's is sometimes compared) is a good example. Sometimes, I love it, and sometimes I feel like it kind of sucks. I've never felt that way about the food, atmosphere, crowd, or staff at Casey's. It always hits the spot. It would be nice if they had maybe 3 more beers on tap, but they don't. Casey's is cute on the outside and in a great location. I was hoping to find a good bar/restaurant to put in my rotation. Our server was very friendly, accurate, and even funny. He even brought us a new ketchup when he saw it get low without us asking. We had the famous onion rings as an appetizer. They were fine. Not amazing, just fine. Everything was really greasy. I ordered a burger, which was tasty. The steak fries were cooked really well. This was a surprise as a good steak fry is hard to find, in my opinion. I'm not sure when the $12 burger became standard offering, but that is way over-priced for a normal, greasy, bar burger. I can understand if you're offering organic meat, gourmet toppings, etc. Good burger, but not for $12. They don't offer a kid's menu or any smaller offerings (I'm fine with that, we improvise, I understand it's a dive bar), so my daughter got the burger also, except without fries, which made it an $8 burger for patty, cheese, and bun. My husband's meal was bad. He ordered Casey's dip sandwich with cheese and horseradish sauce. The meat was devoid of flavor, and the horseradish sauce was devoid of horseradish. This was a miss all the way around. They have a good beer selection in bottles, but only a few on tap. The part that made our mediocre meal turn gross, was that we spotted our server scraping his teeth with his finger while standing in the middle of the dining/bar area. Maybe he ran to the kitchen and washed his hands immediately after this display, but COME ON. That goes against basic food-handling rules. Do not touch yourself and then serve food. Especially don't clean your teeth with your finger in the middle of the restaurant and then serve food. Makes one think about what else the employees do when they are not in view of the customers. This is another one of those great local's places, which I usually tend to forget about for months at a time. I usually end up heading there for some one-off reason, only to rediscover it for the gem it is. Such is life. (why don't we go there more often? Hmm... dunno... no good reason, I guess...) This is one of those old-school, Cheers-like places where you can walk in and slip into yesteryear. Very classic bar (you'll find yourself looking for the spitoons), and tasty barfood. Now, I should start this with "I'm not a huge burger person but when I do want one..." I go to Casey's. Whenever people come into town or friends say, "I'd really like a good burger", I take them over to Casey's. I like the ambiance. I like that its an old building, and more importantly, I really like the food. This place has really good burgers, and reminds me a bit of Red Hawk with its menu. You get three choices for your burger and no one looks at you weird when you ask for A-1 for your burger. Yea, I'm that person who eats steak sauce on a burger. I should add, you also get your option of a turkey, beef or black bean burger. I also like the fact this place is right across from the train station, so if your train is ever late going to Chicago (which, it seems it always is!) go over to Casey's for a drink and a burger. And speaking of drinks, if you like Long Islands, this is the place to go to. They actually have a 2 drink limit on the Long Islands because that's how strong they are. Personally, after too many late night long islands in college, I choose other alcoholic fare such as anything with gin in it. And they don't disappoint. This place does get fairly crowded on Fridays so you might have a bit of a wait. But I've always had great wait staff who are friendly and willing to give you their opinion of what's good at the menu. read more

I used to live just down the street from this place. It's unpretentious atmosphere and solid menu make it unique for Ann Arbor. It's the perfect place for a post-game burger or beer. Their vegetarian sloppy-joe is phenomenal - grilled cornbread smothered in beans mmm.... You must(!) get some steak fries and try out ALL of the mustards on the table (the Zatarain's one is my favorite!) Oh and don't bother with the soup - it comes in a mug. Slurpy slurp ;-( read more

This place gets a 3 for the onion rings and only the onion rings. Otherwise I would've given this place either a 1 or 2. The atmosphere is fine: busy bar/pub whatever. We were seated immediately even though it looked like we wouldn't be. I saw that there were onion rings and I asked if I could sub them out for the fries. Don't ask that question. Answer is no. I found it annoying but it's not the reason for my less than favorable review. We ordered our burgers medium and both came to the table well done. (This was not a one-off occurrence, my boyfriend went there TODAY and the same thing happened). Again, I feel like if burgers are your forte, cooking them to temperature should not be an issue. BUT burger temperature was not the main issue here. The main issue is that MY BURGER TASTED LIKE LIGHTER FLUID. Gross gross gross. I'm glad the onion rings were there, or else I wouldn't have had anything. At that point I was too annoyed to say anything and I didn't want another burger so I sat with it. The onion rings are great, but other places make great onion rings, so I won't be back. read more
