Glad we tried this place out, but not sure we will keep it on the rotation. On a recent weeknight when we didn't feel like planning, cooking, or cleaning, we decided to check out McShane's. It seems to be the neighborhood gathering place, and I loved that part of the vibe. We seated ourselves and were greeted in a decent amount of time. The waitress took our drink and appetizer orders. I think she was the only server, and maybe the kitchen was a little slow, because it took a while for everything to come out, and she really seemed to be running that evening. Food was alright, nothing hit it out of the park that evening. Portions are generous, and a couple of us were able to take home boxes. Overall McShane's was a-ok. Hate to give a bad review to an independent pub but this was an awful experience overall. Waitress was slow and not responsive.... Took 15+ minutes to get our beers after ordering. Should have never ordered food but we did, fish and chips were the consistency of a well done steak.... Onion rings were soggy and disgusting.. Came here to watch the March Madness game and was not disappointed by the food. The French dip sandwich was to die for. The rosemary au jus. The sweet potato fries were salty and sweet and my husband who doesn't eat sweet potato fries, ate half of them. The French onion soup was a great choice too. Service was great! Stopped for Saturday lunch. A nice little spot. Not too busy. Plenty of sports on TV. The bartender was running the whole joint. He had three at the bar and three tables. He did spectacularly. Better than most waitstaff I've seen lately. Friendly. On the ball. Helpful. He mentioned that he had a special on loaded potato soup. On a drizzly December Saturday, we were sold. Bowls, please. Delicious. We followed with salads. I opted for the Michigan salad; mixed greens, dried cherries, Granny Smith apples, and gorgonzola cheese. I added grilled chicken and subbed in balsamic for the original raspberry vinaigrette. It was loaded up and delish. I had to take half home. The hubs got the BIG salad, which was basically a loaded up chef salad, with bleu cheese dressing. He liked it, but I think he regretted not ordering mine. Meets expectations for a neighborhood, Irish pub. Lots of seating with many TVs, pull tabs and keno. Quick and friendly service. Large menu with a good happy hour portion with 7.99 appetizers. We had drinks & entrees. All excellent. I had the Mac & Cheese with crabmeat & shrimp, which came with a square of cornbread (oh soo good) & I added a side of broccoli. All very tasty, with the broccoli cooked just right. Out of 5 stars I give it 5 stars. The other two in our group had an order of the Shepherd's Pie (came with cornbread), he gives 5 stars & the other was Vegan Mostacciolie (?), which he said was 5 stars also. Stopped in with my sister for lunch, and have been dreaming of the sandwich I ate ever since. They have SO MANY options for gluten free diners which probably makes me a little biased towards them. But wow. It's so rare. There we SO MANY things I could eat without issue. I got a club on gf bread with tots and it was delicious. The portion was huge, and I took half the sandwich and tots home for another meal. My sis got the turkey Reuben and was just as impressed, and also had leftovers. We each got a few drinks with out meal. My tab for my food and 3 drinks was ~$25. Absolutely reasonable and a nice surprise with how expensive eating out has gotten. Currently 3:57am as I'm writing this review. I went to Mcshane's last night, not knowing what I was getting into. The place seemed nice on the outside, on the inside, bland, mundane, understaffed, and the food...the food is the reason I'm writing this review in the first place. I have a gut wrenching stomach ache that woke me up in a cold sweat. I barely finished 1/4 of my meal, if you had a manual ringer and you put my dish through it, I guarantee you that you'd produce a 1/2 of pure used, unfiltered oil. It took about 25-30 mins for everything drink order to be received, which...I cant blame considering it was LITERALLY a one man show. It wasn't like this was a Monday, Wednesday night either, we're talking Saturday night at 6:30 pm and there was a SINGULAR human working both the bar, the kitchen and the tables, congrats to her for the hard work, but the cleanliness, the wait time and the overall experience truly makes this place a last resort. (If you're just looking to go to the bar and get shit faced, I think pretty much any bar with a drink of your choice will suffice, not sure when their lines were cleaned though...that's definitely one major thing that scared me about getting a beer here) read more

We came here for a drink after a concert. I have driven past here a few times and decided to stop here for a drink. It is a local spot with people who know each other. It was late(1am) so it seemed to be pretty laid back. They had casual and friendly conversation. We had a drink, watched TV and chatted with the people and staff. There was also a pool table. The waitress was friendly. I will plan on stopping in soon to grab a bite to see how the food is and the atmosphere during earlier hours. Overall it was a good visit. read more

The BEST burger I have ever ate!!!!! Really good home made food. A hidden gem. If you have the time it's worth the wait!!

I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't so scruffy. But who cares! McShane's goes the extra mile with all of their food.Try anything- the McShanes & Cheese is a big favorite of ours. The side of homemade cornbread is perfect. The burgers are over the top good and it is my favorite turkey rueben anywhere with the swirled rye bread. They have fried pickle spears, homemade as well. The Shepherd's Pie is warm and comforting on a rainy, chilly day. The beer selection reflects the taste of the area, with plenty of micro beers. Sundays are poker night next door (accessible only through McShane's), so the people watching is superb. read more

This place has a neighborhood pub feel. Really cool vibe. The food is quite good too. I've had all kinds of things - sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, salads, pancakes - and it's all been pretty good to great. I've only had one meal here I wasn't totally happy with - on St. Patrick's Day of 2022, there was something really different about the shepherd's pie. It was not nearly as good as usual. I think maybe they did some food prepping to deal with the surge of customers and the reheated pie was not as good as the fresh one. But that was an anomaly. Meet my friend here after work today. We shared the corned beef egg rolls and I had the McShane's Big Salad. The food was very delicious and fresh in a quiet atmosphere. Our server Kendall was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and told us about a few dishes to try next time. Definitely a hidden gem waiting for more people to discover. I think most people think it's just a bar, but they have a very extensive menu with lots to choose from. But if you just want a drink that's there too. I will be visiting again soon. read more

On the inside, nothing has changed from it being roundtree to now being McShane's. The menu has however and not bad at all. I only get two things here: the onion rings (beer battered and out cold, remind me of redcoat tavern/Vinsetta garage, which is some of the best onion rings I done ever had, they give you about 6-7 for $4) and the whole wings (huge and excellent across the board. The only thing is your getting 4 whole wings for $10). Great neighborhood bar that has drink specials every day and is a good time every time. read more

A few years back, the McShane's people tried to send Arthur's upscale. Long story short, their Regal Beagle branding has stuck, and they might actually wrinkle an eyebrow at you if you wear your motorcycle patch in there, but the trendy menu is gone, the bathroom is terrible as ever... it's pretty much back to being Arthur's again. Having learned none of the lessons from Arthur's, the McShane's people have gentrified another beloved Ypsi Township dive into irrelevance. I've only tried the food once. The Reuben has gotten a little thinner, but its price has skyrocketed, along with the rest of the menu. I couldn't eat the fries, because they tasted like dirt. (And I am by no means a fries snob. If I won't eat 'em, your fries are rank.) The menu also shows something they call Shepherd's Pie. But it isn't Shepherd's Pie, with lamb; it's Cottage Pie, with beef. Sure, it's a fine distinction, but if you bungle something as fundamental as this, I think you get your Irish theme revoked. OK, so, if you're paying a premium for your night out, and it isn't the food, and it DEFINITELY isn't the neighborhood, then... the service? Ehhh... nope. Our waitress fumbled through a list of beers on special, then came back sheepishly (maybe that's where the lamb went?) and corrected the list. She went through a different list of beers, inflecting each one upward, as if she were asking us. And then. The capper. At the end she said "and there's one beer I can't pronounce. It's a P-A-B? ...S-T?" My hand to the skies, I am not making that up. I might try again in several months, to see if the staff has gotten on their game, or (let's hope!) turned itself back around like The Regal Beagle did. read more

I'm a local to the area. I am going to keep the review short and sweet, straight to the point. The food is hit or miss depending on what you order. The appetizers are sub par. The buffalo chicken wraps were great. The menu is expansive and they maybe need to dial in a few core things. The fried foods are a heavy batter so if you're into that style of food it will work out for you getting the chicken tenderloin or fish and chips. The management did compensate us for the appetizers we weren't a fan of at all so that is a good sign they care to do better. read more

The food was good! Much better than I expected. The beer was cold. Much better than I expected! The service was good- a sweetheart of a waitress. Ok there were a few hiccups but small- we came in and sat down while another waitress was chatting nearby and waited and had to ask for a menu but after that it was clear sailing - the waitress was nice and personable. I had the chicken -Gobbler's Reuben and thought it was really good. I especially liked the homemade mustard style coleslaw. My guest had the Brisket Melt sandwich and although good, the meat was small portioned and the sandwich was unremarkable. He said he would not order it again. We both had a Perrin IPA on draft and that was good! Bill for this was $29 included fries and coleslaw- so I felt that was reasonable. The air conditioning was cold, Lots of good, large TV's in this sports bar and it was not too loud.There are tables outside on the porch too. I get the criticisms. It's a dive bar with a crowd of regulars in a strip mall. It has a back poker room. It's not terribly clean. The servers are... inexperienced or accustomed to their customers and not normal service (like telling you about specials or listening when you order drinks or food, or explaining how wetnaps work). The music is too loud if you're under a speaker. But it's got a handful of big TVs, the beer is cold when they remember to bring it to you, it's priced pretty normally... It's a modern middle America dive bar with a fun cast of characters for people watching and enjoying a beer. The wings were really good, seasoned with dipping sauce and the full wing, like thigh, leg, and wing all together. We didn't check out the attraction, the "Tak Out Beer" but I'm not against coming back on a weekday night. read more

I was hesitant to check it out after all the negative yelp reviews, but we were in the area, my 8-year-old daughter was in the mood for a burger, and I was in the mood for a beer. Service was friendly and quick, prices were reasonable, my beer came out right away and my daughter's burger and fries were excellent. McShane's (used to be Roundtree) is mediocre at best. While the food is delicious, and same with the drinks are way over priced for a regular dive- bar. Although McShanes has pool, a poker room, karaoke, and trivia every Tuesdays, and I visit on occasion, in fact I went to play Trivia last night, and the patrons, and the bartender, Emily were extremely loud, obnoxious, and rude; in fact I could barely here myself think. The bartender seemed to be of excelent service to the annoying, and drunk people at the table behind me! The bartender also blurted out answers for me during the trivia game, which are against the rules such in a way that was mentioned before the game started! I had put my empty glass to the edge of the table, and tried to single the bartender to ask for a second drink. When I left to go turn in my answer slip, my glass was gone, and no response from the bartender to see if I needed a second drink! OK, I lived in Ypsi my whole life, and experienced the restaurants/ dive bars here including Sidetrack, The Maze, The Wurst Bar, Tower Inn, and Aubree's/ Stix far better with service, food, drinks, and attitude! Although I used like going to McShane's as it was Roundtree especially when they had dart tournies/ leagues because the service was much better greater than what it is as McShane's. Shortly after the name change, I still liked going in here for drinks and food, but the service gradually got worse. After experiencing what happened last night, this is the very last straw, and last time going to this place ever again. Until service greatly, and I mean greatly improves, I WILL NOT step within 25 feet of that place!! read more

McShane's is hands down the best restaurant in Ypsilanti. The food is simply amazing. The drinks are fresh and they have awesome specials. Every day from 3-6 they have happy hour, sweet deals on drinks and ALL appetizers are $5. You can't beat that! read more
