Big *ss Long Island for $11.50!

I love dive bars and consider myself a dive bar dweller. Any city I visit I try to hit at least one or two dive bars on my trip. While visiting my mom in Saline for a long 6 weeks we passed this place many times and finally decided to stop in one night. We were happy to find that the kitchen was still open at 9:30 on a Sunday night. We decided to split the sampler plate appetizer and wasn't disappointed. The bartender was cool, the drinks were strong and cheap, and the few locals in there were friendly. Thompson's has keno which is a big deal to me living in Vegas where you have every other kind of gambling but not keno at a bar. We came up a few Friday's later and the place was packed. They had on the Tigers game and the MSU game. Found a couple spots up at the bar, played some keno, and watched baseball. Around 10pm they started setting up for karaoke but I was tired and didn't feel like staying. I like the vibe at Thompson's and will be coming back on future trips.

Pathetic food was only matched by service. Tried it twice and will never go back. Go or beer only.

It came in a ciabatta bread but it was more bread than chicken meat. My friend next to me said her fries came out cold. My husband had the double smash cheese burger and I had a bite of it but it tasted too beefy and bland did not taste like a smash burger at all. The device was good and we would like to come back and try it again. Hopefully next time we'll sit in the outdoors patio and can order something else. Also the bathroom was hot almost felt like there was ac in that part of the restaurant.

I can be very critical of restaurants. I have over 20 years food service experience. From the UK to the USA. I will say that every dish that was prepared for us was absolutely phenomenal! The timing of the service of the dinner was very good. No long waits, and the food was served hot, the proper temperatures. We had steamed mussels with the home made bread. The pairing was excellent. My wife has never eaten alligator and she surprised me by suggesting that she would like to try it. The taste was very fresh, lightly battered and spiced to perfection. My wife does not like spicy food, but she enjoyed it. We next tried the soups. She had the Mariners chowder and I had the gumbo. I have lived in Southern Mississippi, and I will say that the gumbo is by far one of the best that I have ever had. The Mariners chowder was also very good, but the gumbo was exceptional. For our entree my wife had the Lobster roll and 1 had the Jambalaya. The Lobster roll came on a grilled roll and the lobster stuffing was very fresh tasting. The Jambalaya was spicy the way it should be. The serving size was abundant. For dessert we had key lime pie and cheese cake with a strawberry. Both were very very good. The wait staff were very friendly and answered any questions that we had about the menu. I highly recommend Mac's for any of those special occasions or to just go out and have a good meal with you family.

The little bread chunks were very good. The Caesar salad and salmon was good. On the other hand my fish and chips left a lot to be desired. It came with two pieces of fish, a little ramican of coleslaw and french fries, in what my wife described as a cute little basket. The fish was almost chocolate brown. You couldn't even stab your fork into it. Now I've eaten here a number of times in the past. But never have I had fish that well done. I had a coffee but was never ever asked if I needed a refill. At 1 point the server was standing right at my table. I was holding my cup, which was over half empty, and they never asked if I wanted to refill. The bill with tip came to thirty eight dollars. Maybe that's why I haven't been here in a while. I worked at Long John Silvers for 3 years, back in the 1980's. I was the manager, and if I ever seen a piece of fish came out that brown, it would have went in the garbage. If you're feeling lucky someday, go ahead and give it a try. But don't blame me.

They changed the manager…read morefrom Jennifer who was great to Sam who is extremely rude and has backward social communication issues - they scraped the bottom of the barrel for this position to save a few bucks. The attitude of this new management is just plain indifference about giving a good experience and it shows in the quality of the food, condition of the restaurant, and treatment of customers. There are way fewer smiles in this place by everybody. When the owners are out of the building, the Managers lower the customer service standards even lower likely because they believe they are underpaid or unhappy for some other reason. Many of the Saline kids no longer work here. You are more likely to find a dirty table when you dine in than not. The condiment shelves are kept empty, so you have to go up to the pickup counter to get ketchup and wait for somebody to turn around to help you, which can take minutes some times. Half full fries are the rule. I have to ask for topped off fries every third time. You occasionally will get a stale bun too. The new owners don't support the local charities anymore and are not participating in the fundraisers that this McDonalds has supported for years. This was so disappointing. It used to be fun to come here, but now it is just a place to go for convenience.
