We had a lovely time catching up in a comfy booth on a late afternoon (plenty of seating, you can seat yourself). The employees were friendly and helpful! I needed help picking a sweet cocktail and the waitress gave me some recommendations. I ended up choosing the Espresso Martini and it was delicious!! My SIL and I only ordered drinks but they kept checking on us to make sure we were good and didn't need to order anything else. It had a great atmosphere and was clean. I would come back! We've been here twice now, both times it took a very long time to get our main course although the appetizer came out at a decent interval. I had the French dip both times and enjoyed it. My husband had the 50/50 this time and something with fish last time, he liked both. My son got chicken strips both times, hoping this time they'd be better. They were not, he described them as having no flavor and being too crunchy. They did look overdone as did the fries. The tots were good though. read more

This used to be one of my go-to places, which makes this review really disappointing to write. I came here regularly, knew many of the staff by name, tipped very well, and genuinely liked the food. Unfortunately, my orders were wrong a surprising amount of the time. Sometimes it was something bigger, like no pesto on a pesto chicken sandwich, and sometimes it was smaller, like fries instead of tots. I was often patient and understanding about it because I liked the place and the people who worked there. A couple of months ago, after another issue with my food, a bartender dismissed my concerns and told me he had "never seen a more consistent kitchen." He also implied that I had said the kitchen "couldn't make anything good," which I never said. The food is good when it comes out correctly. My issue was not the quality of the food. My issue was the repeated mistakes and the way I was spoken to when I brought them up. What made it especially frustrating is that this bartender had not been present for any of the past issues, yet spoke to me as if my experience was invalid. I did not appreciate being treated like the problem when I had been a loyal, kind, and generous customer for a long time, even if he personally wasn't aware of that history. I'm genuinely sad to no longer be welcome at a place I used to enjoy so much, especially because I liked many of the other staff members. But I am thankful that I don't have to spend my money somewhere that handles customer concerns this way. Because of this experience, I probably will not be visiting this restaurant or the other restaurants associated with this group. My money is earned through my energy, and I'd rather spend it somewhere that values my business and treats customers with basic human decency. read more

I came here to watch the Lion's game with my party and was not impressed with the food or the service. There's really no other word I can think of but condescending when describing our waitress. She not only had attitude every time she came to our table, but always seemed bothered to come check on us. I moved my chair around the table to have a better view of the game and she rudely confronted me saying I needed to move it out of the aisle- "I'm going to tell you right now, you or that chair cannot be there." Her attitude was a recurring theme throughout the evening. We ordered the Nachos and Pizza Bites appetizers, both of which came out in a timely manner and were warm. The Nachos were my favorite, there were enough toppings for all the chips which I know isn't always the case when you order nachos. The Pizza Bites were okay, they didn't have a lot of flavor, even with the ranch and marinara sauce provided. I want to give them another chance but will definitely not be recommending this place to others. I'm disappointed because they are conveniently located off Packard, right off the main drag into downtown Ann Arbor, and far enough away to avoid gameday traffic. Surprisingly, the crowd was pretty sparse for a Lions Sunday, maybe because it was an 8:20 game. The building itself was clean, but I did notice the bathroom had a pile of stuff on the ground (cleaning supplies? extra toilet paper maybe?) and there were no speakers piped into the restroom like most bars, so there was no way to follow the game during a quick bathroom break. Lastly, I have to mention their jersey giveaways. Right before the game finished, the bartender announced that number x had won the jersey giveaway. Me and my party were shocked because we had not been notified of a giveaway at all and because there were so few people, we probably had a good chance to win. I wouldn't put it past our waitress that she didn't care to tell us, given her already rude demeanor, but that is extremely upsetting that she couldn't even have informed customers of what we later found out to be a weekly special on gamedays. Turns out, you have to buy a certain beer to be entered into the raffle. That being said, if you go on gameday, don't expect them to notify you or advertise the specials...take the initiative and ask yourself. Or, in all honesty, take your business somewhere else that has better food and will gladly let you participate in their specials. read more

Monty's is an Ann Arbor spot with so much to offer... but at the same time can leave things to be desired... The vibe at Monty's is excellent -- you can usually find a table, and it can be a good meeting spot for connecting with a lot of friends simultaneously. On top of that, the vibe inside during a game day? Spectacular. I stopped in with a group recently during a Lions game, and the energy from be patrons was barely a couple notches down from a college football student section! The drinks here are solid, and their bar is stocked well. I do wish they had more NA options (specifically mocktails) I generally expect more variety than a couple of NA beers on the menu in Ann Arbor. The biggest downside is the food; if I rated the food separately, it'd be 2 stars. Over the several times my friends and I have visited, it seems like the food is mediocre at best, just a notch above college bar food, but double or triple the price. I recently got the stir fry and... the ingredients seemed to be good quality, but the flavor was entirely absent. Overall, I like Monty''s -- it brings a lot to the table! Stepping up the game with regard to food would bring it up to 5 stars for me. read more

The service at Monty's is very good, and the location itself is great (large dining room, good seating options, nice ambiance), but man... the food is just not good. It's not horrific or inedible, but it's deeply not good. We've had a number of things at Monty's over time, and it ranges from "fine" (wings, fries, some of the other apps) to "I really wish I didn't order this" (burrito bow, stir fry, many of the handhelds). Everything is bland and vaguely poorly cooked - often a little soggy or overcooked. Dear lord, why so much shredded iceberg lettuce?? This place could be a gem if the food was even medium good for a bar. They're getting lapped by Frasers just 5 minutes away. On top of the rough food quality, the food is pretty expensive as well for what you're getting, which just adds insult to injury. Rooting for them to turn it around since the location is so great, but as of now, we won't be jonesing to go back. read more

I've sorely missed Banfield's, the previous occupant of this space, with its shadowy environs, classic cast of locals, and cheap food and (large) drinks. Things are a bit different now. Monty's is bright and airy with some quirky cocktail selections, a menu full of English pub favorites, and prices that aren't exactly cheap, but are at least in line with most other casual bar operations in town. On our first visit...I ordered the cheddar beef sandwich. I can't complain about the amount of meat and cheese, though it was a bit short on the advertised horseradish. When we returned, my wife had the classic burger, which met all expectations for a good bar burger. I tried the tikka masala and was impressed. It wasn't as saucy as the tikkas I usually get from Indian restaurants, but the sauce it had mixed through the rice well, making the entire bowl wonderful. Spicy! This is the kind of food experience you usually would have to drive--and park--in downtown Ann Arbor to get. It's nice to have all of the pleasure and none of the hassle. read more

Tonight was my first time trying Monty's. I live in a nearby neighborhood and I have grown tired of what is nearby so I was excited to see the reviews. I was really hopping to love it. I ordered pickup from an app and unfortunately they were out of my first choice so I ordered the Sheppard's pie. I don't hold it against them for being out of something when I ordered closer to 8pm. It happens. I'll start with the pretzel and beer cheese app. The soft pretzels were good, but the beer cheese wasn't my favorite, and there was something in it of unknown origin floating in it. I didn't venture to see what it was. It didn't really matter anyway. The Cesar salad was sad. The greens were limp and the Caesar salad dressing was unremarkable. I did however, use it for the little croutons and pretzel sticks. The croutons unfortunately were my favorite part of my meal. On to the main event: Shepard's pie. I wish I could say something positive about it. There was hardly any of the meat filling, and what I could get out from underneath the hard cheese and crumbly mashed potatoes was maybe an inch of it. I didn't care for the taste at all. It reminded me of Chef Boyardee ravioli, but not as good. It was clear that it was probably made a while ago and put under a salamander to heat it. They can turn it out faster if the pie is shallow. I think that may have been the case. They left out my beverage and the side of sauce I had asked for, but they said that they would take that off of my check, and both times I spoke with someone they were very nice! I think going there might be the best for the drinks and events that they hold like trivia and karaoke. I love both and will probably stop by sometime to play, but I'll be sure to eat before I go out. The only thing is that my husband who said when he picked up dinner was that it is insanely noisy because of the music. When I called I could barely hear the person I was talking to so I can confirm that. I tried to tell them about my meal, but I could barely hear the other person on the line. All I got out was reporting the missing soda. If you have a problem after ordering from the app Toast the number that they have listed just rings and rings. And since they were out of the gumbo, I had to chose a salad that added + $3 to the $17 entrée I had. I could not place my order on the Toast app without picking one. Gosh, I write this with a heavy heart because we are neighbors and the people seem so nice! Right now I cannot recommend it, but I will give it another try and update my review when I do! read more

We have been there a couple times. Tonight was horrible. Children were running full speed and SCREAMING back and forth through the dining room. They were with a group in the basement and running up to the game room. Very disruptive. When several tables asked the wait staff to try to curtail the running and noise they said they really couldn't do much since the children were the owners kids. One of my favorite local spots in A2. Chill vibe, staff is nice, service is good and fast. We've tried a few different apps, Shepards pie, the single burger, meatball sandwich (not sure if that's there anymore), and the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Everything has been good. My one critique on the burger and meatball sandwich was they could have used more sauce but that's just preference, nothing to do with quality. We've lived here in A2 for about 8 months and recently discovered Monty's. We will definitely be putting them on a frequent rotation. read more

Waiter was very nice but appeared to be one of two serving the lunch crowd so service was sketchy. Food was not good. Burger had to be redone and the quality of the meat was mediocre. For a place that prides itself on burgers you really need to get better quality meat and a cook who knows how to cook them med-rare, medium and well done. The tater tots are right out of a freezer bag and reportedly the fries were soggy. The inside looks pub like so nothing to complain about as far as appearance but there are too many better places in Ann Arbor for me to consider coming back. read more

I've eaten here three times, the first time was in house and though service was odd as waitresses kept switching off, so it was hard to keep up with who to ask for help, the food was good; it was hot, ample servings and my steak was perfectly well done, rich with flavor and tender. My second visit was for takeout chicken, which I'd heard rave reviews of, though cooked well it lacked flavor unfortunately. The final visit was take out also, I was disappointed in my bland very undercooked burger, that was ordered well done. Finally got to try this place last night with some out of town friends. We all thought the food was fantastic! We ordered the pretzel sticks with beer cheese (DJ's Bakery-yum) and poutine for appetizers. I had the French dip sandwich- way too much bread but at least the meat was tasty. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips and really liked them. He said the tartar sauce and cole slaw were more vinegary than he's used to but that's just a preference thing. My friend from Texas tried shepherd's pie for the first time and said it was amazing. Fries were tasty. I'll give the food 4.5 stars out of 5. The service, on the other hand, was atrocious. As a former server, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and be kind but our server was just plain strange. Courtney forgot to ring in a couple of orders of drinks and when we asked about where our drinks were, she snatched an empty glass in the most aggressive way I've ever seen at a restaurant. She was extremely awkward, calling each of us "friend" multiple times and was very passive-aggressive. All four of us felt it. At the end of the night, we were able to stop another server to cash us out and she was wonderful. Very kind and heard us out about our disappointing service. Emily is clearly good at her job. The food here was great and we will definitely be back to try more. We just don't want Courtney as a server again. read more

I have read good things about this place so I decided to check it out yesterday. I came in mid-afternoon, found a comfortable spot at the bar and was quickly greeted by a welcoming bartender. I chose a beer from their extensive draft list and perused the menu. There is more there than the typical tired bar menu with some fresher, healthier options. I chose the BLT, it was served on a focaccia bun with a generous portion of thick bacon and slices of fresh tomato, it was delicious! This place was delicious and has an awesome ambience!! I had fish and chips which were absolutely delicious, the breading was incredible and the homemade tartar sauce was so so tasty. Good food and ambiance - docking star a because my friends and I have been overcharged various times. We've gone here a few times after our rec sports league, and liked it until we looked back at our credit card transactions and saw we were overcharged. Reaching back out to them they were super nice and accommodating about fixing the error - maybe it's the software they use (tabs). Either way, good place, just check your bank statements later, and if there is a discrepancy, give them a call and they'll fix it. read more

Well this is certainly a step up from the old Banfields! Cool new spot in town. The place is lively and has a friendly staff. Lots of TVs and different seating areas too. The food was fantastic. The Cajun Burger is honestly the best hamburger I've had in the Ann Arbor area and the waffle fries were great too. Only downside in my mind is the pricing. My brother's fish and chips were overcooked, nearly burnt on the outside and yet wet and mushy on the inside. My Shepherd's Pie tasted like someone had dissolved an entire salt lick in it. Seat yourself with no waiting. Service was fast and friendly. Food arrived less than 10 minutes after it was ordered. Good sized portions and very fair prices. Chicken was tasty with mixed greens salad. I would definitely recommend the cheeseburger- very juicy and delicious. Seating is spacious and bathrooms are clean. This spot used to be a hangout for the theater crowd when it was a place called Banfield's. My theater moved locations so I hadn't been in a while but when I saw it had opened under a new name I had to try it and am very happy I did. The remodeling opened up the place and made it seem much more inviting. It has a bar with about a dozen seats and 4 tall tables in the bar area. The dining area has booths, some of them very large, as well as tables. Lots of TVs as well. As a bonus, the food is really good. I am personally hooked on the gator bites, as well as their chicken chowder and their pimento dip. They also have a beer especially brewed for them by Wolverine State Brewing. I was excited about trying out this restaurant because of the fried alligator appetizer (BayouSticks). Boy was i disappointed. Its basically alligator flavored hushpuppies. I could not find actual alligator in any of it. For the 12 dollar price, I felt totally ripped off. The beer cheese tastes like it came out of a can and was also gross. Didn't eat it. Another 11 dollars I was disappointed that I spent. Our order was to go and they got by sandwich mixed up... classic rueben with a side of cole slaw...it was made with regular corn beef, but Georgia Rueben style....had to go back and pick up what I actually ordered. At least that got refunded. This was my first time trying this place out and I don't think I'll be back. Super inflated price for low quality food. I definitely expected better. read more
