I'm writing this review from the perspective of a wedding guest at River Road Venue. I attended a…read morewedding here in early November and it was wonderful. The location in Anna, TX is remote enough to make it feel secluded. Set off a country road, there is plenty of open field parking. From what I could see, there was the main reception building and the outdoor wedding space was across the creek. Upon arrival to the reception area, very nice, top of the line golf carts were waiting to chauffeur guests to the outdoor ceremony area. The ceremony took place outdoors past a small creek where there was a quaint bridge. The seating was set up in neat rows where the centerpiece had a lovely antique chandelier. There was also a mic set up and outdoor speakers so the vows could be easily heard as well as music to bookend the ceremony. Our friends who got married are huge Anglophiles and they chose "London Calling" by The Clash to take their first walk down the aisle as man and wife. Great touch! For the reception, the building has lots of long tables and some round ones. There was also a dance floor space. The only thing I would say here, is I wish there were some noise abatement measures. While there were speakers to amplify the toasts and speeches, the large space was too boomy to hear with clarity. Other than that, the space was very nice. There are also rooms to the sides of the main room for the bridesmaids and groomsmen to get ready. The restrooms were also very clean and well maintained. Overall, I thought River Road Venue was a lovely place to attend a wedding and had beautiful grounds. I would definitely love to attend another wedding here again sometime.

Our day-of host, Pete, was very courteous and helpful. We did have trouble getting management to respond to our emails and texts in the months leading up to the wedding. At one point, we didn't hear back for a full month. We also were told during our initial tour that the sound systems installed in the chapel and reception hall would be available to use, but were later told that we couldn't use the sound systems that are permanently installed, and rather we had to provide our own speakers and equipment. Other than the communication trouble and speaker situation, we really enjoyed having our wedding at River Road.

We showed up at Los Saltos at 10:00 am on a Sunday and were greeted by the welcoming committee... some friendly dogs that live on the ranch. We made our way to what seemed to be an office, knocked on the door and Cristina appeared and welcomed us. As we walked to the covered arena we were able to see two foals that were under a week old, some goats, miniature horses and a mule. The kids loved this. At the arena Cristina was so patient with the girls as she taught them commands to control their horses. They rode around the arena until they were comfortable with the horses and only then did they take us to the pasture for a trail ride. We walked the pasture and came back to the arena and Cristina let the girls ride around the arena basically until they had had enough. Then we walked the horses over to another barn and were able to take them back out to the pasture. We found the prices to be very reasonable and the horses were the best trained horses we have ever experienced. We would recommend Los Saltos to any other families that want to expose their children to horses. They also offer training classes for more advanced riding and a variety of boarding facilities.

The first time we came last year, they gave me the shortest horse because I was the shortest rider there! I rode Ziggy, and I was already attached. He's so cute-- I am a big David Bowie fan, so I have nicknamed him,"Mr. Stardust" LOL The first time we came, it had been some years since I had ridden a horse, and the same for the boyfriend. We did the easy walking trail ride-- this year we did the intermediate trotting trail and I asked to ride Ziggy again-- what can I say, I love him.. Although we were initially nervous for reservation cancellations due to the rain and being pushed back a day, they still had great communication as to whether or not we'd be able to have our trail ride. The respond via text message-- so be aware that if you call, they might not answer. The only time they DO call is when you're booking the reservation. It had been raining on and off and so they said the first time they were checking our specific trail, was when we were actually on it. We didn't get to trot as much as I wanted, but it was a little squishy in some areas. The staff is friendly and even take your photo at the end! My thing is that it is very hard to hear them talk when you're on the trail ride. It would be beneficial for them to carry a microphone or something.

Throughout the ride you will be going very slow and will be in the forest for about an hour. They charge you $1 per water bottle and certain staff have terrible attitudes. My experience was terrible and to top it off one of the staff members spoke the entire ride and I wasn't able to enjoy the scenery. I will definitely not be coming back.

We ordered all the types of fries- truffle, sweet potato, and regular. They were so delicious and perfectly cooked to a crisp. We also ordered the queso/pico/chips plate. Rebecca the hostess was awesome and introducing us to everything and making sure we got set up for our night. The food and drinks were excellent! Highly recommend making a reservation for a table! We were amazed at how much space there is. The back room got pretty tight when we first arrived since there was a group of 12 there already....they had taken over the tall tables in the middle and the couch. We slowly spread out and then their time was up about half way through ours so it wasn't as cramped. But it's still such an awesome set up we couldn't stop talking about it the next day!

In the beginning I was really questioning why I was doing this. There were 7 of us girls and David was our guide. We stopped about an hour into the rides to have dinner, which was set up for us near a pond, complete with a couple of bottles of wine. It was nice to regroup and chill out for a bit. I was a tad worried I'd get used to it again right away and wondered if we'd just be let loose on our horses to fend for ourselves, but the guy in charge was very helpful and made sure we knew the ropes before we went out on our trail ride. The horses themselves were very tame and calm, but also stubborn when it comes to eating various shrubs and leaves on the trail. Our guide was helpful and probably patient concerning we moved at a snail's pace :) In the middle of our ride, we sat down for a picnic lunch by the lake. The chicken salad sandwiches on croissants and chips were very tasty, and the water and fruit kept it light. Still, not really a $30 meal in my opinion, which is what it cost. Overall, it was a fun little adventure and we'd definitely go back. My only suggestion would be to put a sign in front of the place, as we happened to find them by pure luck.
