Just returned from a private polo lesson at Stonebriar Polo Club. The field is in a very…read morepicturesque location and is in great shape. No large divots to worry about on the field itself. The horses were very well mannered and well taken care of as was the equipment. Vic was my instructor. He is a very pleasant young man whom is very knowledgeable about the sport. He has been playing polo since he was 13 years old. He started the lesson by taking the time to explain the game itself, safety and strategies of the game. We then moved onto the equipment and how to properly hold and use the mallet. We practiced first on land each different type of swing (half vs full swing) and then we moved onto horseback. I rode Gordita. She was extremely responsive and well mannered. We practiced each type of swing and a couple of the different defense maneuvers from horseback, first from a walk and building up to cantering if you are an experienced enough rider. If you have a riding helmet or a bicycle helmet you may want to bring it with you. If you do not have one you will be provided with one. I would say that you will get the most out of this if you are somewhat comfortable with horseback riding. I had not been on horseback in nearly 20 years and it was like riding a bike thanks to a great horse and great instruction. HIGHLY recommend Stonebriar Polo Club if you are anxious to get back on a horse and learn something new to boot!

Interactions seem much smoother when there's consistency in showing up. "If you're a No-Show please don't hesitate to contact management to reschedule, as I've had to do it once or twice." Please don't come in on days you're not scheduled (I learned this the hard way, they only have so many horses to let people train on). The trainers plan their day around the schedule, and unexpected arrivals cause confusion. Ive been taking lessons here as a beginner and the Trainers are very helpful on what you need to improve and give helpful tips on how to correct your mistakes. The lesson programs they offer are very well priced for learning how to ride. They have Trainers for every style of riding from Dressage, Western, English, and more. Also, the boarding is very reasonably priced, especially compared to other places around. It's honestly hard to find something this affordable without sacrificing the basics. If you're looking for a place to take lessons, board your horse, or do both, this is a solid option. The ranch has a comfortable, welcoming feel, and it works well for riders who want a consistent place to ride and care for their horse. I'd definitely recommend CJ's Legacy Ranch to anyone looking for lessons or boarding.

The first time we came last year, they gave me the shortest horse because I was the shortest rider there! I rode Ziggy, and I was already attached. He's so cute-- I am a big David Bowie fan, so I have nicknamed him,"Mr. Stardust" LOL The first time we came, it had been some years since I had ridden a horse, and the same for the boyfriend. We did the easy walking trail ride-- this year we did the intermediate trotting trail and I asked to ride Ziggy again-- what can I say, I love him.. Although we were initially nervous for reservation cancellations due to the rain and being pushed back a day, they still had great communication as to whether or not we'd be able to have our trail ride. The respond via text message-- so be aware that if you call, they might not answer. The only time they DO call is when you're booking the reservation. It had been raining on and off and so they said the first time they were checking our specific trail, was when we were actually on it. We didn't get to trot as much as I wanted, but it was a little squishy in some areas. The staff is friendly and even take your photo at the end! My thing is that it is very hard to hear them talk when you're on the trail ride. It would be beneficial for them to carry a microphone or something.

Throughout the ride you will be going very slow and will be in the forest for about an hour. They charge you $1 per water bottle and certain staff have terrible attitudes. My experience was terrible and to top it off one of the staff members spoke the entire ride and I wasn't able to enjoy the scenery. I will definitely not be coming back.
