The appetizers and desserts were delicious. The group I was with ordered nearly all of the desserts and five or six various appetizers, and I enjoyed them all. I was there for lunch and ended up ordering a burger and I'm giving four stars because the burger was just mediocre. It sadly lacked any real flavor, however, the fries were delicious! We chose to celebrate our anniversary with dinner at the Ritz, expecting a special evening. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The food was the biggest letdown. Their "famous" burger was just a plain bun, a basic beef patty, and a handful of arugula. No sauce, no sides, no effort. It arrived on a large white plate with nothing else on it. My wife's salmon wasn't any better. It was a small piece of fish sitting in a watery, flavorless sauce that tasted like it had no seasoning at all. The one thing they got right was the outdoor setting overlooking the pier. It was beautiful and made us think we were in for a great meal. Our waiter was friendly and smiled throughout the evening, but the service itself felt careless. Our drinks and plates were placed directly on a bare concrete table without even a placemat, which made the whole experience feel much less upscale than we expected. After spending $$$$, we left still hungry and wondering how a restaurant carrying the Ritz name could miss the mark so badly. Very pretty bar/lounge with gorgeous views of the ocean and dock at night. There's a variety of seating, including bar, couches, and outdoor booths. We ordered the calamari and brioche to share, along with a few drinks. Both were delicious, wish there was a bit more calamari. It was a bit annoying to order, since you had to order both food and drinks at the bar, despite us sitting in the lounge area. Wowza! What a cute little lunch at Cast and Plow over at the Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey! Was totally headed home, when mom and aunt asked me if I wanted to meet them for lunch over at the Ritz! Since I am never one to pass up an opportunity for a free meal, I of course said yes and got my butt over there. Arrived on a weekday at around 1pm and the place was DEFINITELY a cute scene. You got all the fancy/professional folks eating lunch, enjoying the beautiful LA weather and its definitely a place to people watch. I am still going strong on my diet, so opted to share a few nibbles pf a few things and super happy I did. OK! THEM BRUSSEL SPROUTS! SO SO SO GOOD! I just had to highlight them! Beautifully roasted (super crispy) in a lovely sauce spinkled with some sort of chili powder. They were gorgeous and so delicious! The Hummus + Pita were super yummy as well! We asked for some fresh veggies to go along with it and it was great! Super random but i'm a fan of a thinly sliced cucumber and they were sliced perfectly! I, of course, being the queen I am, washed it all down with two glasses of prosecco. Great lunch with my mom and aunt! I will absolutely be back! Visiting a friend in town, and went to their hotel for dinner. Valet only of course but you can pay on CC which is nice. Seating outside is nice with the fire pits, and the glass seems to funnel the gas fumes up so not in your face. View is of the marina. In my opinion there are better views out there but it is the highlight of the area. Anyway service is sloowww. But the Negroni was good, and so were the Brussel sprouts. Really good brussels 5/5. While the menu was compressed to few options, the flavors of most of their offering surpassed expectations. My friend and I went to the Christmas Day brunch. The experience fell shockingly short of expectations in both quality and value. The food was consistently substandard. The salad station and seafood were served at room temperature. The crab claws were extremely dry, tasteless, and appeared freezer-burnt--something I never expected to see allowed out of a professional kitchen. None of the items in the chafing dishes tasted fresh. The miniature quiche was dry, and the dinner rolls were so stale they seemed beyond days old, probably frozen. There wasn't even butter available to accompany them. Dessert was particularly underwhelming. There was a small bowl of warm defrosted berries along with some type of custard with chemical colored sprinkles, served in a tiny shot glass. That was the entirety of the dessert offering. If the intention was to keep the menu simple, the execution should have at least been exceptional--it was not. The cost of the brunch was $150 per person, yet nothing was included--no champagne, not even coffee. We each ordered one espresso martini and one glass of wine, bringing our total bill to $460. Seeing that total after such a disappointing experience felt like a slap in the face. To add to the overall dissatisfaction, my table faced a filthy wall, which unfortunately felt fitting given the quality of the food and service. read more

Even though I live here in West LA I had family visiting town for an NFL game so they chose to stay at this MDR Ritz location. We decided to have Cast & Plow for dinner and then again for breakfast the following day before heading out. It is a beautiful location right on the water and you can view the docked boats during your entire meal. Outside seating on the patio has private seating with individual fire pits which I thought was a really nice touch. They don't have a dedicated parking lot except for the hotel. It will be valet or you can park in the parking lot across the street and walk over. Our servers for both meals were very polite and all of our items came out quickly. I'm giving it a 4/5 because the flavors were good but not great. I have had better dining and other Ritz hotels domestically and around the world. For my dinner I chose the Lamb Loin and the Seasoned Fries and thought both were pretty good. The Lamb Loin had a nice flavor and I especially enjoyed the zucchini mole which was a unique take on this dish for me. I felt the portion size was fair and overall it was pretty good. The next morning I had the Huevos Rancheros with upgraded Chorizo and thought it was fairly good however, they gave me a tiny amount of chorizo which paid extra for. The eggs were cooked perfectly and there was a lot of cheese and crunch, but thought it was a very small portion and I felt hungry afterwards. Overall it is a nice option when staying at the hotel but I would not go out of my way for it if I wasn't already staying there. I would suggest if you are visiting the hotel and want a convenient meal, however, most of the items on their menu you can get for room service as well. read more

It was our first time here and we came here for a post engagement celebration. Our first impression when we sat outside for brunch was we all loved the view. Also, we thought the seating was comfy, but we found that the table was kind of awkward due to the giant firepit in the center. This was kind of annoying because it took up a lot of room when they were bringing our appetizers (of which we ordered a lot of). We started off with a Cheese and Charcuterie plate, Hamachi Crudo, and Brioche, which were all excellent. I also ordered a Latte which was delicious. Cute cup too. As for the mains, I ordered a Marina BLT which was tasty! Not the most amazing BLT in my whole life, but it was pretty good. I feel like it was missing something.. although I'm not sure what. Oh yeah, and they have gluten free bread that they can bring you if you need that (1 in our party has celiac). Another in our party got the Omelet and thought it was delish. Another in our party ordered the Egg & Purple Haze Cheese Skillet, and they weren't a huge fan. Not terrible but not amazing. Our server was mostly good until it came time for the check. We all finished our meals and were waiting for quite some time. It was pretty muggy and hot outside, and there is nothing really to block the sun from coming in our eyes. We decided to just get up and go inside and wait for the check in the nice air-conditioned space. Overall, the service was great- that was the only quirk. Honestly, I'd come again but sit inside. Nice and air-conditioned. Plus, I felt like the service may have been even better inside. This might be one of those places where if you sit outside, they might forget about you. read more

Beautiful location and exceptional view if you sit in the patio. The marina on a typical beautiful sunny day is radiant with various shades of blue reflected from the water, boats, yachts, and flags. This view is 5 stars. The service here is also friendly and supportive of the views. The menu covers the basics to satisfy vegans, vegatarians, pescatarians and carnivore. However, Cast and Plow's beautiful plates serving California nuevo versions of classic menu options does not match the price tag or the flavors one anticipates upon ordering. Removing a star from my initial visit 2 years ago as there were a few too many things that have declined. Had both dinner and breakfast during our stay and there were inconsistencies. There were definitely some stand out dishes, like the avocado toast. The avocado is generous and fresh. The pesto fresh and tangy. There were two poached eggs, but were over cooked. The sourdough is great though! Another standout dish was the charred Spanish octopus .. both the pesto and Romanesco sauce are delicious, the octopus tender and also generous. Unfortunately the curry falalel came out luke warm, which meant the falalel was dense and heavy and lacked crispiness as I think the oil soaked into the falalel. The filet was over cooked, barely pink when we asked for medium. Though it was at the right temperature. I think maybe the falalels were done and had to wait for the filet and thus got cold that way. read more

The Marina ambience transports you to a chic Mediterranean playground full of Euro trash - to give life to your inner James Bond. Just watch out for the expertise of their lethal bartender. After all that reward yourself with an apple empanada dessert. Then slip out the back staircase to your yacht - or go for a walk along the marina. Food: On my last visit, I ordered the Fit Wrap, grilled cajun spiced chicken breast, sauteed spinach, egg whites, feta cheese, red salsa. it was filling but did not make me feel heavy. Service: Julia was our amazing server who went out of her way to take care of us, frequently checking on us and refreshing our coffee mid-way through our meal. Sonat, the Assistant Manager, introduced himself and checked to ensure we were thoroughly satisfied, which we were. Sonat was professional, courteous and personable. Parking: Valet parking is the best option, though there is a public parking lot across the street. Shane at valet is kind, smart, courteous, and has an incredible memory. We stayed at the Ritz which is where this restaurant is located. Our first night, we ordered the Korean style chicken sandwich to go and took it to our room. The gochujang slaw and kimchi sauce on this was delicious!! However, the processed chicken patty was so incredibly dry, I had to slather it with ranch dressing to get it down. The "herb" fries were great. The next morning we went to the outdoor dining area for brunch. SERVICE: Beautiful view of the harbor, but we were unfortunate to get the server we got. While we watched another server bust her butt making sure her tables had everything they needed - even wrestling with the giant shade umbrellas to keep her customers shaded, we got a server who disappeared and wasn't around for long periods of time (and we were sweating as the sun drowned out what little shade we had in the beginning). The inside part of the restaurant was practically empty, so it wasn't like she was busy in there. When we left, she was definitely busy chatting away with the bartender. FOOD: I ordered the steak (medium rare) and eggs which comes with tots and a "house salad." When it arrived, it was very clear visually the steak was VERY well done. Cutting into it, there wasn't even a smidge of pink. Definitely well done and very chewy. When I told my server she said she thought the same thing and questioned the chef who just responded that he "temped" it. The house salad was a pile of arugula with no dressing and one half tomato piled on top of the steak. The dish was redone and was better. Even the salad had dressing and some cucumbers. The Ritz is always an elegant, evening experience and I expected no less of it's resident restaurant Cast+Plow. You stroll into the hotel lobby and your ambiance is Roses and Picasso lithographs, a delectable start. Flanked by fireplaces and views of boats floating in the adjacent marina. It's a beauty, through and through. Children are running about and it's a warm welcome. The dinner service was spectacular. I chose from three varying types of waters. Ordered a Quinoa bowl with tofu and my date ordered a variety of fish. I do however wish, there were additional vegetarian entrees. And were on the balcony, it was cozy with a fire pit and overhead heating. I'll still remember to wear a coat next time, and not try to be so seductive, lol. Parking is either valet, as one would expect or public parking in Lot 7. Or I'm close enough to walk over but it's abt 20 mins and I don't wanna wear high heels for the trek. It was a lovely dinner and experience, and we stayed until nearly midnight wandering the art pieces, fireplaces, and the marina after dinner. Very very romantic indeed. The location was lovely and valet parking (only parking available) was nice but not included. $18 We sat on the balcony patio and the view of Marina at Sunset was lovely! We both had the filet mignon and it was delicious!! Our server was also super sweet and even brought out a birthday dessert which was delicious as well. 4/5 stars because the food service was pretty slow although the food was great. In a word, decent. A decent hotel main restaurant / lobby restaurant in a somewhat bizarre Ritz Carlton that at times feels very Ritz (e.g., the exterior, the architecture) and at times doesn't (e.g., the second dining area off Cast & Plow looks like it belongs in a Hilton on the interstate). I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could but nudged it up because the view (if you sit outside in particular), the server, and the hummus which was an outstanding surprise. The menu is difficult to navigate and hard to describe; I'd definitely take a look at it before booking. We had the tomato/burrata and the hummus to start and both were very good. For the mains, my wife had the burger (being on the menu is convenient but again kinda odd) and I had the cacio e pepe which was very good. read more

We had just arrived from Florida and hadn't eaten all day, save for a few plane snacks. This was our only option without more travel to an off-site location or delivery. We sat outside with a great view of the marina and lit the table fire. Lovely. Took quite a while just to put in our drink order. Not too bad on the follow-up for food order. We got the brussel sprouts for an appetizer. They came out quickly and were delicious! $25 delicious? I don't think so, but they were good. We both got the Cast & Plow burger for a main course. It seemed to take a very long time to come out. We both asked for medium cook temperature and I would say it leaned more towards medium-rare. Nonetheless, the burger was very tasty, although nothing better than a good burger from any other restaurant and certainly nothing to justify the $35 price tag. Fries were tasty and crisp....but pretty standard. Cast & Plow satisfied a need, but I wouldn't say I'd seek it out or return if I weren't staying at the Ritz. read more

Why oh why is it so hard to find decent food with a view in the Marina. Cast & Plow, located inside the beautiful Ritz-Carlton used to be a fantastic place to come for a nice waterside lunch or dinner. Recently with clients who lost their home in Malibu, we decided to establish at what was a favorite of mine years back. We tried breakfast, lunch and dinner twice during their stay. All of it was subpar for even diner food. I was in shock considering this was such a great place before and that it's in the Ritz. Service matched the food and at first I discounted that due to the unfortunate busy traffic due to many victims from the palisades and Malibu fires staying there but one of the visits was afterwards when it slowed down and still abysmal.
