Had their breakfast buffet at a recent stay at the MDR Doubletree: For $23.99, it was fine. I tried the two types of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, French toast, danishes and oatmeal. Everything was fine to good, as expected for a hotel breakfast buffet. Worst item I had was the apple strudel which was not very fresh. Not terrible but not good either. Coffee was good and strong. Ordered food and drinks to have by the pool. We were specifically asked if the food was for the pool, we said yes. Everyone else has been getting their food brought to them by the pool but we were told to pick it up in 10-15 mins. We returned 15 mins later and the food was almost ready. We waited a while longer, food arrives but my side of fries are missing. The lady working the bar, Laya, doesn't mention where the fries are until I ask about them. She then says they're working on them and it'll be another few minutes. My friend and I continue standing and talking near the bar for at least another 10 mins before she then finally offers to bring the food to us at the pool since we've been waiting awhile. We go back to the pool for another 20 mins and nothing. The people next to us are upgraded to premium liquor for having to wait for their margarita that was brought to them poolside. When I went back again I was told they're still working on the fries. Asked for a refund and to speak to the manager, Scott. At this point I've waited almost an hour for a side of fries - that still are not ready. The lady at the bar asks for my order to be refunded and tells me this so that I don't follow through with speaking to the manager. I informed him that we were the only people who didn't get their food brought to them - it wasn't even an option. We were told to pick up our food and after hanging out for almost 15 mins we were then offered to have it brought out.. even though it still never came. This place has horrible customer service and the food really isn't worth the wait or price. Eat before coming here! lol read more

When we booked our room we got the breakfast package. Glad we did. It was so easy to go downstairs and have breakfast in our hotel before our day. There are a lot of choices. They have a yogurt bar with fruit and granola. The also have boxes of cereal. There is a hot breakfast bar with eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and French toast. They had eggs, Omelette Eggs, Bagels, Potatoes, French Toast, Yogurt Bar, Muffins, Danish, Pastries, Fruit, etc. I selected the Omelette Eggs (moist, cheesy, creamy, mushroom) and Potatoes (crispy, soft, onion sweetness, pepper, salty) with fresh coffee. Everything was warm and good no complaints. it was your typical medium level and down, Hilton breakfast. Very convenient and once again service was great so it did the trick. read more

Here's what I got during lunch: A Venetian- a craft cocktail, this one is sweet so if you are a girl like me who like juice with her liquor this one is for you. I could barely taste the alcohol in this drink, which is good as it was 12pm on a Saturday lol! Chicken wings and fries- your usual chicken wing, fries were thick so that was a plus and a nice large serving. Before checking out today (Sunday) we also at at the breakfast buffet: Bacon scrambled eggs with tomato and spinach sausage home style potatoes French toast fresh fruit (grapes, cantaloupe, strawberries, and pineapple, whole apples and banana) Toast with different jams and jellies Muffins,danishes, and bagels Cereal and milk Assortment of Yogurt (I Think granola, don't quote me) Oatmeal and topping (brown sugar, raisins, etc) 4 diff kinds of juices chocolate milk, coffee, and tea Syrup andddd salsa And it was all so Devine. This restaurant is situated in the MDR hotel. The place has a nice atmosphere and vibe but everything else really fell short. Even with a reservation for a larger party and literally no one dining in the restaurant, our table wasn't ready and they had to push them together. We had to constantly flag down the waitress to order, refill water, grab the check, etc. They were out of a few items for some of the dishes and I definitely should have rethought my choice of the shrimp pasta. Overall, the food was not great. The flavors were quite bland in the pasta and the fish was a bit over cooked. The Bolognese looked amazing and I definitely had some food envy. Overall, the food is priced at typical hotel prices but I've had much better. Although this is not a chain, it did not represent itself as a go to destination on its own. read more

We had the Daily Bruschetta Board: smashed avocados, olive tepanade, grilled shrimp w/lemon and dill, seared ahi tuna, and prosciutto with brie cheese. Next up were the lamb meatballs with Greek yogurt, paired with an arugula fennel salad, which was refreshing and countered the creaminess of the yogurt. The roasted polenta cake with mushroom ragu and truffle sauce - so delicious and comforting! The biggest treat was the lamb osso bucco with lemon and dill sauce accompanied by roasted vegetables. I haven't seen this dish prepared in many places, so I'm glad I found it here. That sauce was delicious, lite, and flavorful! We also ordered the grilled swordfish made Mediterranean-style. It was a perfect portion with a healthy helping of sauteed spinach. For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse and mascarpone espresso topped with biscotti. Everything was exceptionally prepared and cooked. All dishes were full of flavor - light but flavorful. It took me away to Italy for the brief moment as I ate my meal. WARNING. It's terrible. Half the things we ordered they didn't even have. The rest were just horrible. One of the appetizers is so deep fried that the plate was full of grease from the drippings. They were definitely frozen. The shrimp wasn't cooked all the way... it was questionable raw and smelled just EWWW. There are only 4 dessert options, but they were out of half of them? She's a vegetarian so we shared the crispy sea salt potatoes, the polenta cake, the arugula quinoa salad and the caprese salad. Everything was big! I can't even imagine how the big plates would have been. The potatoes were nice and crispy, but didn't love the sauce they provided. Asked for ketchup. The salad was good but had one too many peppers. Polenta cake was delicious as was the caprese salad. Overall a great dinner. From the outside the hotel does not look very nice at all, but once you step inside you feel like you're in a posh hotel in Beverly Hills. The restaurant is located to the right of the entrance. Self parking is free up to 3 hours and $5 minimum after that. // SERVICE // The service here was great. They constantly came to our table to clear plates and refill drinks. // FOOD // Daily bruschetta board: 3 for $9 or 5 for $14. We decided to get the 5 for $14 and order one of each except for the goat cheese and tomato bruschetta. The five different ones that we ordered were: tuna salad, braised artichokes, tomatoes, broccoli rabe, and the veal meatball. Everything was good, but nothing really made a huge impression on me. 3.5/5 Artisan cheese plate: A good selection of 4 different cheese served with a crostini, almonds, dried apricots and fig cake. The cheeses were all pretty good and the fig cake was surprisingly tasty. $9 3.5/5 Roasted polenta cake: Crisp polenta, foraged mushrooms, parmigiano-reggaino, truffle sauce, and chives. This was probably the best dish of the night. The polenta was on the bland side, but it was perfect once you got a bite of it with some mushrooms! $9 4/5 Artichoke ravioli: California artichokes, mozzarella, herb ricotta, cured olives and a light marinara sauce. Brownie with pistachio ice cream and red wine fudge-surprisingly good mix of everything! My only comment was the brownie is tasty but was tough to cut into and eat. Service was the best part about this place, you really feel like you're getting A list treatment here. Very hospitable, and we all got to meet the chef, which was pretty dang cool. Don't freak out about finding the restaurant; it's located right in front of you (on your right hand side) the moment you enter the hotel. Plenty of parking, lots of seating, and service is great. That's about it for the pros. The food, however, was horrendous. I had another vision for my margherita pizza ... and what I got was just super cheesy, greasy, and lacking in flavor. I could barely taste any of the basil and tomato, all of which were muted by the amount of cheese covering the pizza. I would also avoid the polenta cakes and seared ahi tuna. Polenta cakes were too salty and the seared ahi tuna did not taste like high quality fish. You would probably have to drown your tuna with lemon juice to make it passable. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. You can find better Italian restaurants in the LA area than here. read more

This is my second time at Barbianca and it seems to be a consistent experience. The waiters are extremely friendly (and usually good looking) with very good food. They recently changed the menu which threw me off on what I was going to order but we were pleasantly surprised with the new options. I started with a Chianti wine and 2 appetizers: The roasted polenta cake- house-made crisp polenta, foraged mushrooms, parmigiano-reggiano, truffle sauce & chives & The Pizzetta- fennel sausage, artisanal pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, san marzano tomato sauce My brother and I split the braised lamb osso buco- red wine, roasted vegetables,yukon mashed potatoes which was very good and the pork tenderloin piccata- shallots, garlic, capers, white wine, lemon, flat leaf parsley which I thought was a bit better. They surprised me with birthday dessert which was so sweet of them and they were all very good and we had the house-made amaretto cheesecake, tiramisu, panna cotta and the caramelized pear tart. The decor is more swanky and was definitely recently renovated. They have heat lamps and fire & ice pits outside which makes sitting out there lovely. It also has a full bar and inside seating and since it's a hotel restaurant, it's fairly quiet and always easy to get a table. read more

There were 10 of us and they had no problem accommodating us. Who would have thought that a fantastic and delicious dining experience could be had at a restaurant located inside a hotel. Normally, restaurants at hotels are foofooish, overrated, and underwhelming. But not this one. Barbianca offers a delicious dining experience from start to finish. First and foremost, the staff was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Our waiter, Victor, was the quintessential host. He was attentive, checked on us frequently but was not too intrusive, and made fantastic and delicious meal recommendations. We started with the Polenta Cake (4 out of 5 stars), Caesar Salad (4 out of 5 stars), and grilled Octopus (4 out 5 stars) for appetizers. Followed by Vegetable Rigatoni (5 out of 5 stars) and Vegetable Lasagna (a 10 out of 5 stars!! This dish was that good!). We were absolutely delighted by the main dishes and would have doubled the portions if our stomachs had had the room! We finished our meal with Victor's recommendation of the Sampler Dessert which was made of cheesecake, panna cotta, and cannoli. The cheesecake was in a form of cupcake and was not the traditional cheesecake. It was delicious. The panna cotta was very good. The cannoli was not bad either, and all in all a great dessert trio. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone interested in a delicious meal, beautiful ambience, and impeccable service. This restaurant was hard to find, as it is inside a Hotel really deep into the property. The Hotel is owned by Doubletree/Hilton, and the restaurant is right next to the pool. It has sliding doors that open up to the pool area, and has a tropical/nautical atmosphere. The food here is simple but tasty, especially for being in a hotel. A very relaxed atmosphere lends itself to losing your thoughts while dining on some great gastropub type foods. The tastiest food item was the Roasted Polenta with Arugula, and the healthiest was the beet salad. A nice presentation and served for sharing. I would certainly recommend this for Hotel guests and those wanting something different in the Marina District. By the way, there's a lot of free parking in this area, and they validate; a rarity in Los Angeles, and certainly for Marina Del Rey! read more

I came here with two friends and our experience started out much better, but kind of went downhill. Let me start by saying that this place has great atmosphere. It was a nice day, so we sat out on the patio overlooking the pool and fire pits. The decor was very clean and open. I have to say what really disappointed us was the service. He seemed to feel it was more important to carry on discussions with fellow co-workers instead of taking care of his only table. Every time we needed something, we had to search for him and he was literally in some corner chatting away. Food was kind of hit and miss. We loved our appetizers, but our entrees could have been better. Everything we ordered had good flavors, but there were texture problems. -roasted polenta cake 5: house-made crisp polenta, foraged mushrooms, parmigiano-reggiano, truffle sauce, chives (Wonderful, a must get!) -valley caprese salad 5: heirloom tomatoes, basil, fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinaigrette (Super yummy and fresh! The blueberry and strawberry compote was delicious.) -coffee: (It was served in paper Starbucks cups and they put the creamer in for you. I don't understand why they wouldn't serve it in standard cups and saucers and let you pour your own cream. The amount of cream you use seems like a very personal preference. It all felt very cheap.) Granted I came here for a test run before the restaurant opened, but wanted to post anyway, mostly for the photos of the great ambiance. The restaurant is sort of 'italian with a napa twist' so it has some hints of California, tuscan wine, rosemary on the table, etc. Mainly, it's the setting that I loved--the restaurant has tables both inside and out (with heatlamps!) and is very comfortable and pleasant. It's currently a little tricky to get to, as it's inside the Hotel MdR, but worth the trouble. Our group really enjoyed the cocktails and bruschetta boards before moving on to some 'big plates' which were all good. The vegetarian of the group was accommodated nicely. The wine selection was nice and we enjoyed a bottle of Barolo. Desserts were creatively presented and really good--I think the lemon cake with sorbet was the favorite. read more

Simply delicious! Fresh, light yet fulfilling. I love the concept of openness in this place. It's great for a (house-made) cocktail (I like the Pimm's Cup) by the pool or a nice quaint lunch meeting. I'm looking forward to coming back in the summer and chilling in the cabanas...fun times ahead! The hotel is also unrecognizable...I may just make it an all-nighter! Recommendations: bruschettas-tuna, artichokes and oven dried tomatoes are my faves; garginella primivera; roasted half chicken and the fritto misto is a must! Rating: 67/100 pts I had the opportunity to dine here at a Yelp Elite event. The food was fantastic then, but quality was not as good when coming here again on my own. Still, this is not a bad choice if you are staying at the MDR Hotel. The theme: Northern Italian + California Artisan Cheese and California Olive small plates: Each of the cheeses were top class and highly pungent, going well with the accompanying dried cranberries and apricots. The olives are house-marinated in orange rind, rosemary, chili oil, a delightfully addicting combination that boded well for the rest of the meal. I recommend both of these dishes as starters for the table. Valley Caprese Salad: for my meal, it included burrata cheese (instead of the mozzarella listed on the menu) with organic heirloom tomatoes, Abequina extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. The cheese was incredibly smooth and creamy. Although I don't eat tomatoes, the chef's description made them sound so delicious that it was the first time in recent memory I WISHED I could eat tomatoes--so if you like them, I suggest you have at this dish. There were small chunks of salt sprinkled over the cheese that I could have done without, but I assume this would have been just right if you actually eat tomatoes. Roasted Stone Ground Polenta Cake: topped with foraged mushrooms, parmesan-reggiano, and truffle sauce. The polenta had a nice, grainy texture while still being perfectly moist, and was further complemented by the cheeses and truffle sauce. But more noteworthy was the foraged mushrooms. I am not a huge mushroom fan. I can eat them, but I wouldn't say I LIKE them. These mushrooms, however, were without a doubt the freshest I've had, and were an excellent pairing with the moistened polenta. It was a fairly large square. (In case you're wondering, "foraged", the chef explained, means the chef specifies a certain variety and amount of mushrooms; assistants then gather as much of the specified variety as they can, supplementing the remaining quota with whatever similar varieties can be freshly found.) Pizza: Brittle, and not particularly memorable.. Tcho Chocolate Brownie: had crushed Oreos mixed in, was topped with pistachio gelato, and had red wine-flavored caramel and whipped cream. Overall, this was a satisfying dish. However, I am a huge fan of Tcho chocolate, and I felt the Oreos slightly detracted from it, adding more of a sugary sweetness to the rich depth of Tcho chocolate. I found myself enjoying the toppings more than the actual brownie. Though this is not on the standard menu, they do have a "Lemon and Toasted Almond Butter Cake", which similarly uses red wine syrup, and would be my first choice for dessert. Hotel restaurants are notorious for serving sub-par food at inflated prices, but I found Baribanca Local Kitchen to be a defiant exception. I've enjoyed each of my visits when I'm out in Marina Del Rey and tonight was no exception. My lovely friend invited me out to have dinner with her and her husband as well other friends to dine here at Barbianca Local Kitchen. For a Monday evening, there was absolutely no traffic leaving from the SGV area. As I said to my friend, the most beautiful drive I've had on a Monday. I arrived in about 40 minutes give or take. Now, locating the hotel where this restaurant is was trickier. If you see the DSW, you are extremely close by. Once I found it, I parked and headed inside. Barbianca is near the pool and my friend was able to reserve a table outside. Our server was very cool (I didn't get his name sadly) and was attentive. Once everyone knew what he or she wanted, we put in the orders/drinks with our server. Now, here was the snag of the night. Our food took extremely long to come out. Two of my friends ordered salads and yes those did come out but the wait time in between that to the entrees was way too long. We had to let our server know and he kindly checked and even took off 20 percent from the bill. I ordered the prosciutto pizza with a Moscow Mule. I enjoyed my drink and the pizza wasn't bad. I really can't name everything that we all ordered but I do remember, the angel hair pasta, salmon, filet mignon and other dishes. Overall, it's worth checking out if you're in the area or like us, a special occasion because after dinner we headed over to the Fisherman Village for some fireworks! This restaurant is located inside the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel. I suggest to park for free in the lot adjacent, or, you can park within the Hilton Hotel grounds and the restaurant will validate for 2 hours free. The breakfast buffet is served daily from 6am -11am. They have the standard, cereals, milk, yogurt, muffins, pastries, but what makes this one special are the added touches. Bagels with lox, capers, onions, a variety of fresh fruit. and hard boiled eggs. There is also a hot section of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, roasted potatoes. Then there is a fresh juice bar: orange, cranberry, grapefruit. Coffee is brought to your table in a thermos. We asked to replace ours after the coffee got cold. The waiter also offered to make fresh eggs for us, so we asked for eggs over easy. My only complaint? The salt shaker was overly filled, so I screwed off the lid, which spilled a teaspoon of salt on the table. I saw the same thing happen to the guest who also couldn't get salt out of the shaker, sitting at the next table. I am definitely going to return to this wonderful place! This is an under appreciated spot on the west side! Great ambiance for both groups and dates! While i dont recommend the bruschettas (bread is hard as rock but the server insisted that the chef likes it prepared in this "rustic" way), the rest of the items we ordered were great. When we complained about the bread the server was very accommodating and gave us a soft and warm cheesy bread on the house. The beet salad (see photo) was awesome. We love this place, because it's not on everyone's radar for Happy Hour or a bar experience, so therefore not crowded. We first went for their nice wines by the glass, but have grown to love their cocktails and food, which have gotten better over time. Their Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and Gin cocktails are superb. We enjoy noshing off their small plates menu because it's full of fresh, organic, wonderfully prepared items: a variety of bruschetta (with avocado, ahi tuna, proscuitto, etc.); tasty fried artichoke bits; charcuterie; a rich, cheesy polenta with mushrooms and truffle sauce; sauteed shrimp. They also have nice pizzas, salads, pastas, and a nice flatiron steak. Some of these are on their Happy Hour menu (from 5 to 6). The servers are responsive and helpful. I've experienced much better, especially in LA. The main takeaway: very poor service. A group of friends and I very recently wined and dined at Barbianca for a friend's birthday. While the ambiance and interior design of the place was relatively nice (with its modern feel and pool-side aura), the food was middle-of-the-road (okay but nothing spectacular), and the service was really, really bad. Most of our group ordered drinks. It took forever for the drinks to all come out (this was very evident as we all wanted to have our drinks in hand before giving the birthday girl a birthday toast). We then ordered a good number of appetizers to share, including the artisan cheese plate, sauteed shrimp, the fritto misto, roasted polenta cake, and a number of things off of the daily bruschetta board. Again, it took forever for these items to come out. Taste-wise, they were okay but nothing particularly wow-ed me. For the main course, I went with the margherita pizza and tasted some of the salmon my friend had ordered. I give the dishes a B+. Not bad, but nothing amazing. All in all, the service was pretty terrible. It took forever for the drinks and food during every round to come out. And at the end of the night, when we wanted to pay the bill, it took forever for the bill to come, and forever for our credit cards to be returned. read more

Just tried this nice hotel newcomer (ok, new to me) and really enjoyed our dinner. We did have a Travelzoo deal which made the price quite nice. Had the steak which you MUST order mid-rare (they told me). They were right as anymore cooking would have ruined it. The selection of brushetta was impressive so I'd go for the sample plate with 5 kinds. Best part was the nice patio overlooking the large pool. Lots of heat lamps too. If you want a quiet restaurant with lots of room between tables and a clean environment to dine in, I'd recommend Barbianca for either lunch or dinner.
