Went for lunch on a Monday. The weather was perfect for sitting outside. Super fast and friendly service. The fried mushrooms are really good. Also ordered lobster rolls, fish n chips, and the Rueben. All was good. There is major construction going on across the river and my toddler was entertained by the big trucks, so that was a win for us.

The location and atmosphere are wonderful if you remember being in Florida on Spring Break! And, like most of us no, we don't really remember. Yeah, it's a dive and has the most surely yet fun help but hey, it's a boathouse people, not a "James Beard Star" joint and they like it that way! Hit or miss depending on everybody involved -- including customers. The food and the mixed drinks can be either awesome or WTF? That's why I love the place!

    Beautiful night with a view!

My husband and I found ourselves and three of our four children (8, 5, & 1) here on a beautiful Monday evening after we we found The Farm next door had a 30 minute wait (and ironically a vastly empty dining room). Castaway is snuggled on a one way road on the edge of the Cocheco River. What initially grabbed our attention was the enormous outside patio that overlooked the river. We took a shot at this local restaurant despite some unfavorable Yelp reviews suggesting that it was a dive bar and were pleasantly surprised. We started off with buffalo shrimp and onion rings which were delicious! The onions were huge and thinly battered which made it obvious they were fresh and not the frozen onion rings you find at most other places. For dinner, I had the shrimp platter with asparagus and it was equally as good. Our kids didn't love the kids menu so they ordered off the regular menu and enjoyed their meals. Even our fourth child devoured the take-out we brought home for her when she got home later that night. Castaways is a hidden local gem and the patio on the river is the icing on the cake. (I'm sure I could have come up with a better metaphor but it's late) :) We can't wait to return!

Castaway's Boat House - great food, good times!

Not even 1 star really. Told we could sit inside by bar tender, then we got no service at all. We left. Absolutely ridiculous.

Service was quick and our drinks were served to us while we chose our appetizers and entrees. The fried calamari was plentiful and delicious. They were crisp, not greasy and mixed with tangy banana peppers. Clam chowder was thick and tasty while their signature lobster stew was loaded with fresh lobster meat. Once again, delicious! All three of us ordered the baked scallops. I had gone to a restaurant last week where for a rather large sume of money, I was served 5 scallops and a potato chip! At Newicks we each were served at least a pound of scallops, perfectly cooked with fries, Cole slaw and tartar sauce. A true scallop feast! I wish I had room to try some of their offered desserts but the abundance of wonderful seafood served quickly and with smiles made that physically impossible. I love this place and will. Do my best to return. You get what you pay for and certainly will not leave hungry. Yes, they use heavy paper plates and plastic utensils but you know this are clean and new. The food is fresh and delicious, parking is plentiful, the. Menu vast and the entire experience was worth the three hour drive. I highly recommend.

We drove down the road a bit and sat at some picnic tables overlooking the harbor to dine. It was really windy, but I was happy with my bisque. They threw in a lobster roll bun for me at the last minute and that really was appreciated. It was so good and this might be the best way for me to enjoy lobster. The service is quick and the line backs up so you had better know what you want when you get to the front. The gals were efficient and friendly, what more could you ask for? Would definitely be back to enjoy this bisque again.

Footbridge lobster vs Lobster Shack review…read more Location: Footbridge lobster is located right next door to Lobster shack right by the footbridge. Seating: Footbridge js TAKE OUT ONLY with a big window you walk up to order and pickup. There are some benches nearby you might get lucky or you can stand by the bridge and eat. Lobster shack has seating and bathrooms. Price: On a Monday post lunch hour, I ordered the Lobster roll with clam chowder soup. Foot bridge is cheaper if you buy the combo outside of the lunch special hour compared to lobster shack. If you buy during lunch hour, they both are about similar in pricing. FOOD: The biggest difference between the two was TEXTURE. Footbridge offered a bouncy/chewier texture while Lobster Shack offered a softer easier to pull apart lobster. Secondly, the bread is slightly smaller at footbridge but the meat is 5oz almost singular piece versus lobster rolls multiple smaller pieces. Clam chowder was similar in the sense that footbridge had a thicker milkier consistency like most New England clam chowder while Lobster shack had more meat/substance but thinner liquid base with a somewhat coconut type taste. Both lobsters and clam chowder are unique and tasty in their own way and all boils down to preference. At this moment in time, I prefer footbridge for the lobster roll and the clam chowder at lobster shack. If I went outside of lunch hour, footbridge will be my go to for the slightly better price and less broken down pieces of lobster. If you don't like to chew - lobster shack

They had been here before and wanted to try the smash burgers. I'm a fan of seafood so I ordered the scallop plate. At only $18 I wasn't expecting much. We placed the order and made our way to the restaurant where it was already all set for us! The cashier who checked us out was friendly and the building itself was nicely decorated and spacious. It was busy for a Friday night but not jam packed. When we got home I noticed that they forgot my tartar sauce- a bummer. But the food itself more than made up for the momentary disappointment. The portion size was huge for the price! There must have been atleast 16 scallops in there. Even though we ordered take out the food was still nice and crispy. The batter was excellent and the fries had a great crunchy coating. I would highly recommend Fish and Chix to anyone in the area. It may seem unassuming but the food quality and portion size is amazing! I'm happy we stopped by and will ask to go again.
