This used to be one of my favorite seafood spots, but apparently it was sold a couple years ago. Today is the first time we've gotten the chance to go and it was a disappointing and frustrating experience. I'd been coming here for at least 20 years, and in recent years it had been a favorite spot to eat outside when traveling with my dog. But now, we are not allowed to eat outside with a dog. Instead we had to order to-go and then walk down back to a 'dog area' which is a spot to the left of the building, below the parking area with one picnic table and some chairs in the woods. It was a beautiful sunny day, but we were getting eaten alive by no-seeums, which is not a nice experience when paying $100 for 1 meal with 6 scallops, 4 small pieces of fried fish, fries and slaw, an order of onion rings, a small clam chowder, and 2 beers. And $50 for a small lobster, an ear of corn, and an iced tea. I get that this is a tourist area, but $12 for a beer in a plastic cup and a $7.50 up charge for 6 scallops while being banished to a buggy spot that made eating very uncomfortable is a big no thank you for me. Crossing this place off my list, sadly. The upgrades and changes to this place are not a bonus at all. I'm sad that a place I always felt was friendly and welcoming is now overpriced and we all felt like we were being treated as second class citizens. read more

We had a great dinner at Fisherman's Catch! The food was excellent--I had the Fish & Chips, which were perfectly crispy and fresh, and my wife absolutely loved the Lobster Tacos with fries. The atmosphere is wonderful, especially with the views of the marsh. It's a classic Maine spot, and the service was friendly. Finally got in a beach day with my best friend and she wanted clams. She was not disappointed, very fresh and perfectly cooked along with a bunch of nice scallops. I had the shrimp tacos which had a yummy super crunchy slaw inside. I also ordered corn on the cob on the side and on the menu inside it had a (3) next to it so I thought i was getting 3 pieces of corn, not full ears, but three shorties. The ear that came out, which I think I paid $6 for, was about the diameter of a quarter and about six inches long. It was pathetic. Strangely I opted for no fries and was offered double cole slaw, which I also denied, but I couldn't substitute that stupid ear of corn. Otherwise it was all good! Service was quick and efficient. Fisherman's Catch has continued to evolve since changing hands a few years ago. The interior space was renovated, the restrooms were moved to make the indoors dining space bigger and another outdoor dining space was created. They've recently instituted a 4 course lobster bake, which we have yet to try. The staff are still lovely, the service is good and the food is excellent. They're one of the best at making fried seafood. I had the whole belly clams and scallops today and they were cooked perfectly, with accompanying crispy fries. Even the coleslaw was great. Didn't have the chowder today, but it's reliably excellent. The only negative is the use of disposables plates, cups and utensils. Off the beaten path and we loved it! Having come to this area for years, we have our favorite stops. We try to visit them all, but this trip was different. One of our favorite stops had closed due to seasonal hours, so we decided to hit some other locals places. We were thrilled when we found the Fisherman's Catch last year and decided to go back again this year. We were seated right away and served not too long after. The staff is friendly and attentive. The upscale shack-like atmosphere is on point. We love their lobster paper towel holders that are suspended from the ceiling. I can say that the seating inside is comfortable but I have not been able to try the outdoor seating. So far we have tried the scallops, clam strips, fish sandwich, clam chowder, the fries, the coleslaw, and I'm sure I've forgotten something else. We have been very pleased with everything. When visiting in-season, it's best to get to the restaurant before 5pm. Parking fills up and the line can get long. In late October or early November it is much easier to get a table. Try this place once and I can guarantee you'll be planning a return trip. read more

Despite being off Route 1 in Wells the location is picturesque and quiet due to it being on a dead end road, with just a marina past it. Looks like it's been around for decades and like a Maine seafood shack, rather than a chain restaurant. Menu has expected Maine/New England types of chowder and seafood. First off, the service staff was excellent! Very friendly staff and they were in top of cleaning the place and were all smiles. The problem is the prices. I mean come on, 35.99$ for a lobster roll!!?!? And not only that but it was super small. Literally 3 bites and it was gone and I was still hungry. It didn't even come with fries, just a small bag of chips and a quarter of a pickle. I would understand 25$ because we're eating out but 35.99$ is highway robbery. Unfortunately this establishment does not accept criticism from the consumers. Ordered a scallop box and was only given 5 for $45. Not only is not market pricing but it down right highway robbery. I informed them that this was insufficient for the amount charged. They would not refund my money as the scallops were never eaten. Poor customer service and portions are NOT the way to conduct business in such a high demand area. Thanks to the amazing Yelp community a recent visit had me pick this place to eat. The place was packed at 1:30 in the afternoon almost didn't find a place to park. We opted to sit outside but inside was full. Our waitress Susan M was a ball of energy. We asked for her recommendation and she knew the menu very well and took the time to describe different menu items. My friend and I (at her suggestion) ordered the fisherman's platter scallops, shrimp, clam strips (also a clam belly option) and haddock. It came with Cole slaw and fries. We also each had a fountain drink which was refilled. The scallops were the best I ever had in my life and I have had them right off the boat. The just melted like butter in my mouth. The haddock was also a winner. The shrimp and clams were good. There was a lot for two people . Everything was hot and very fresh even the roll. There was enough leftover for another meal. Market priced I figured would be pricey but the goal bill was 45.00. They split are bill with no problem. Susan also recommended the bread pudding but we were too full that day. Next time. My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for many years whenever we visit Maine. This year, however, we were sorely disappointed. We always have our dogs with us and when we arrived at the podium to get a seat outside, we were told that dogs weren't allowed anywhere, even outside, and that we could order takeout and then go sit in an area far from the restaurant in the woods to eat it. This is the opposite of the experience we have had every other time when we sat at the picnic tables outside with our dogs while we ate. The area in the woods was far enough away from the restaurant that the pager to pick up the food didn't even work. It was down a path and so far from the restaurant that you could barely see it. There was no view, and the place was full of insects that harassed us constantly. The food itself was good, but they have put their prices up and the portions have become smaller. We spent almost $100 including tip for a small cup of clam chowder, a fisherman's plate with three pieces of fish, five scallops, and a small portion of fries, some onion rings, and two beers. We had to eat with plastic knives and forks from Styrofoam containers. Simply not good enough for the amount, especially as they also wanted a tip. I felt like because we had dogs, we were treated as second rate citizens. If the restaurant doesn't want to be dog friendly, simply put up a sign saying as much so that dog owners know they are not welcome.
