We headed off the beaten path for this next review. With this trip to Castaways, one can't help but think of the movie of the same name and other classics from our generation's leading front man. Location: 4 / 5 Following up Johnson's Landing with Castaways, we went back-to-back on the two best sunset views of any wing restaurants in WNY. It was a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Emily, our waitress was also very attentive and helpful. One downside was the bathroom - and that's all I have to say about that. Presentation: 3 / 5 Providing ample carrots and celery along with a solid blue cheese helped save this score but you aren't going to make a Splash with paper and plastic trays. Meat: 5 / 5 Perfect size with no weird shapes or bones. One small observation, there were a disproportionate number of drums over flats - we thought the two went hand-in-hand, like Bosom Buddies. Cook: 9.5 / 10 This score is Big. These were crispy, and hot. Almost impossible to criticize. Standard Wing: 12 Nice flavor. These had more buttery taste than we're used to but not in an unpleasant way at all. We don't know how you do That Thing You Do, but keep doing it. The only downsize was that they were a tad under-sauced. Specialty Wing: 9 Excellent showing here overall. They're truly in A League of Their Own - Hot gold was a favorite. - Hot wing was also great but as has become typical, we wished the medium was the hot. - Garlic parm was... interesting. Castaway's participated in the Angola on the lake music festival on Saturday with a band Redine was a young group but played good . It was upstairs and got a bit crowded looks like the band had its whole family there . Had to go downstairs after about half hour too crowded. Nice little spot facing the beach. The magic of this place is looking at a Lake Erie sunset in the winter. Fun atmosphere that could probably use an updating but it's got that old school kind of piratey feel. The fish was great but the fryers probably could be cleaned more often. Great bunch of people and the food is pretty good. They have some of the best sunsets I've ever seen. It's a very welcoming place. There's a great outdoor pat to sit and whether it be watch or beautiful sunset. read more

Sat on the upstairs deck to watch the sunset and have dinner. All 5 of us commented on how good the food was. Wings- excellent; fish sandwich- amazing; burger- really good. Chicken sandwich- ok. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Great view of the lake. read more

We waited an extremely long time for the food, which overall didn't taste great. Our appetizers took almost 45 minutes to come out after we ordered them, and the rolls had a faint taste of mold. The food took above an hour to come out, which wasn't a super big deal, except that my party had a hungry kid and not many people. Our waitress, Chrissy, was the worst part of it all. If you are going to sign up to be a waitress, you have to learn how to be a little bit friendly to your customers. Chrissy, on the other hand, was very rude. She was not even slightly attentive, didn't acknowledge us when we asked questions, she didn't ask us if she could refill our waters, and when we did ask for a refill, she slammed the pitcher on our table and walked away. You could audibly hear her sigh and shake her head when we asked for the check. One of the people in my party commented that the food had taken such a long time when she finally brought it over, and she argued back with my friend, saying that it took "just the right amount of time" to come out. She said it very rudely, and you could hear her voice dripping with sarcasm. The outdoor seating was okay overall. You had a nice view of the lake, which was very pretty. It was raining and a few people at other tables got absolutely soaked by the rain, even though they were under the tents. I would recommend that they have better coverage for the outside portion, but that was not a big deal at all. We ordered chicken wings and chicken fingers mild. We got both so over cooked and not dressed we had to ask for mild sauce to dress them our self. The fingers were tiny and burned so bad just dry. Beer was cold and bartender nice and that's the only good thing I can say about it. read more

Witnessed a physical altercation here last night including one of their employees who initiated the fight, attacking a patron of the bar . Bar tenders and bouncers did absolutely nothing, very unprofessional establishment. After the fight was over all they cared about was ushering out anyone involved. Will not be coming back for my own safety , don't want to get jumped! Steer clear of castaways brawl house!! Unprofessional establishment with terrible service and reputation. read more

Courtney was super nice and helped us with our beer choices on the deck for happy hour. Even with a stiff breeze and no swimming, this place makes you feel like you're on vacation. Lots of local draft beers including a Sarnac blueberry wheat. I'll write the rest after we eat some hot wings, a burger with hand cut steak fries, and a souvlaki with Greek salad and pita! Yes it's a dive bar, yes the bathrooms are almost impossible to get in & out of but for ambiance, friendliness & fast service it gets a 5. Our fav place to go on a beautiful summer night even tho a 40 min. drive. We don't need fru fru high end pricey dinners. The best fish fry (even tho it is a frozen fish!) Great wings, we love the Cattleman gold, they char them on the grill after frying. Def recommend for a casual night out! Funny how there are great & terrible reviews. STAY AWAY!! WORST place I've been to. Absolutely horrible bartenders. Couldn't even make a drink right. The service was horrible. They were nothing but rude to all there customers. Stopped in on our way back to Michigan. What an awesome place! We sat on the rooftop patio and had an amazing view of the lake. Michelle and Megan were working on the patio and they were both extremely friendly and gave great suggestions. We had the everything wings, OMG they were to die for! Dingy, tired and phoning it in from a decor perspective. Place just looked sad and dated. Needs a total refresh, but apparently, restaurant owners in Angola think you just have to wait for the people to show up. Deck has a view of the Lake, but not a great one, and the afternoon sun is pretty unforgiving. An awning or roof would be a good idea. The good news is that the food is actually decent. Garlic parm wings are really heavy on the garlic, as in piles of it on top, so be ready for that, but pretty tasty actually. Regular wings were good as well. But the atmosphere doesn't work. Best wings in buffalo, way better than anchor bar, come to the beach, its worth it. Staff is great and food even better.
