Over a two-day period, I was scheduled at Castle Dental for a deep cleaning...technically known as Scaling and Root Planing. This deep cleaning is a more intensive procedure than a standard cleaning and is typically recommended when a dentist finds pockets between your teeth and gums. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My deep cleaning was broken down by Castle Dental into two appointments (Wed top teeth and May bottom teeth) to manage comfort and numbing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] First the hygienist used a topical anesthetic to numb my gums using a Q-tip with numbing solution and then the dentist injected another anesthetic into my gums...about 8 pricks. Then, the hygienist used an ultrasonic scaler to remove plaque and tartar from the tooth surface and below the gumline. Next she used a metal tool to remove any plaque and tartar not caught by the ultrasonic scaler. She also did root planing, which smooths out the roots of your teeth. This helps the gum tissue reattach to the tooth and makes it harder for bacteria to grow in these areas in the future. My teeth were flossed by the hygienist. Finally, antibiotics were inserted into the gum pockets. The first day the process took about one hour. The process is expensive, but appears to be necessary. read more

Castle Dental: 10710 Research Blvd Suite 126, Austin, TX 78759 This was the most bizarre dental visit of my life. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I arrive at the dentist appointment as scheduled and was advised they couldn't find my appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The man behind the counter explained that they were all getting ready to leave to go to a Christmas party.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He eventually found my appointment and I thanked him and explained that I felt bad that I was holding them up. After being called back, the dental tech did x-ray films on the one tooth that was bothering me. She ended up doing four films as she was not careful in placing the apparatus in my mouth that holds the film. Eventually she asked me to hold it with my hand while she took the images. She did 4 in total. Absolutely no regard to my safety and the amount of radiation she was aiming towards my head. I have a tooth on the bottom of my mouth near the front. (A very small tooth #25) that needed to be extracted. I have a denture on top and very few teeth left on the bottom. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I explained to the dentist that I am due to have the remaining teeth pulled to get a lower denture placed and that I was not interested in preserving a tooth that was beyond repair.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The tooth was ground down beyond saving. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I get into the dentist chair and the dentist comes in and uses a tool to tap on my teeth to see which one hurt the most. She stated that she was going to send me home with a prescription for antibiotics and I could see a dentist for a "root canal". She obviously heard nothing I shared with her.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told her that I was not going to be getting a root canal on this tooth and that I was here to simply have it extracted. She then states that she would hate to pull the tooth if she was not sure which one was hurting me. I then said, Ma'am, didn't I just pay you to take four x-rays? You should know which tooth needs to be taken out. She had no comment. She then explained that if she pulled the tooth that there would be pain. Yes, "pain". I let her know that I work in the healthcare field myself and we always consider any risks vs. benefits associated with the decisions we make. I advised her that the benefits of having my tooth pulled outweighed the risk of any pain. She then stated that there would be ongoing pain. (Seriously)? She spoke to me as though I was a naive 10 year old using fear of pain to talk me out of pulling my tooth. She then changed her reason stating that she did not think I would want to have a gap where the tooth was. Again, I told her that this was not an issue for me. This dentist did everything she could to persuade me to take the antibiotic prescription and go home (so she could go to her Christmas party). She then stated, Ok we will pull that tooth then, I hope it is the correct one. About 15 minutes later, the tech comes in with the bill on what it was going to cost to pull the tooth. My share was 292.00. (I have dental insurance that pays 90%). I asked the tech to explain to me what cost 292.00. She showed me where the dentist added a bone graft procedure. My small tooth would not need a bone graft. (So why did she add that)? [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told the dental tech that this was not honest and to talk to the dentist about it. I heard her walk into the adjoining room and tell the dentist that I had questions about the bill.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have worked in medical and dental claims processing and I am very familiar with dental codes associated with dental procedures. The bone graft was outrageous to add to the bill when a bone graft would not have even taken place for this tooth. At this point I realized I did not trust this dentist's judgement, professionalism and integrity. I stood up, took my bib off and walked out the door. I still have the aching tooth but that is ok. I caution anyone considering Castle Dental at any location to consider choosing another dental provider. This was the most ridiculous experience I have ever had at a dental visit. read more

Castle Dental Someone told me that I was making a mistake by going to you all but with me thinking maybe it was just them and all the 1 reviews on yelp that you all have , maybe my experience would be different ... 1.. My appointment that was made back in July was canceled the day before and I called to inquire why I was told that the hygienist was not going to be in.. 2.My out of pocket pay agreed upon was $932, some strange reason that shot up another $200. 3. The communication and explanation of what and how and when things would be done is horrible.. 4. There was no empathy shown at all. The reason I have posted this review for 2 locations is due to the fact that the issues I have had are with the staff which worked at Pflugerville and have since moved to the North Austin location. Are reviews based on experience only at the specific location and not the treatment of the staff? The experience is due to the staff and not the building/location. I have had to go to the Austin location to contact Dr A and Nancy in regard to the treatment they gave me when they were at their Pflugerville location. I have been going to Castle for several years. In the beginning Dr A which has moved from Pflugerville location to the Braker Lane location was amazing. So amazing I referred her to others I knew. November 2023 I went in and she gave me my list of work she suggested to be done. We started to work on the tooth with the most issues which I was told would need a fill or a cap. Once she began working on the tooth the pain was excruciating and I began to bleed a lot. She told me we would go over options when she was done. At which point she leaves me with her cell number and a script for antibiotics claiming the tooth was infected and will now need a root canal. After a couple weeks of being sick from the weather I return and they ask for payment for all the work they want to do and I pay. I go to the back and talk with the Dentist that would be doing the root canal we talk awhile and I leave. I call the office and ask for a refund and I am told that's fine it would be 10 business days to hit my card. After the 10 days I still have not received it so I phone them to be told that I first have to sign a release of liability in order to receive my money. Mind you I am asking for money back on work not received. At this point we still haven't received a refund for me or my partner they held his money as well. I am upset, so basically I have to sign a release in order to receive my refund for work not received? Nancy tells me it's for the 1 tooth they started work on and they are refunding all money regarding that tooth. I ask if I can just come to the office to go over this. When I get there she has the form for me to sign and it releases ALL liability. I told her I did not feel comfortable signing this and it doesn't seem legal to be forced to sign this to receive my money. She phones her boss and asks if they can change the verbiage and the boss responds it's a generic form and it's for the work not yet received for the amount I am wanting refunded. I ask if I HAVE TO SIGN to receive my money. She tells me no. So I clarify once again, I do not have to sign and I will receive all of my money she said that was correct. I told Nancy ok I do not want to sign I would like my money. She entered it into the computer and I still have not received my money and it's been well over a month they have held my money. Conveniently Dr A and Nancy have moved locations and I have to go through all of this again with the new staff at Pflugerville. I have reached out to the regional Rachelle she has not phoned back. I emailed the automated Charolette, no response back, I've emailed Nancy with zero response. Can't reach corporate at all and no one wants to refund my money they have held for over a month. read more

I went in for a checkup and cleaning. X-ray technician was fast and thoughtful. I had the exam and the dentist told me my gums were in bad shape and I needed a deeper cleaning. And they didn't have anyone to clean that day. When I went to the front desk I was informed the cleaning was upwards of $500. I explained i would like to just get the regular cleaning covered by insurance. They said they would if I signed a release saying I refuse the recommended treatment. I agreed and make an appointment for a few weeks later. I get there several weeks later taking time off from working. And they tell me I have to pay $500+ out of pocket for the deep cleaning. I said I was told I could get the regular cleaning. I wanted to see if my gums improve. But they refused. So I lost that time. Overall something felt dishonest to me. On top of it, they said it could have been higher had I randomly chosen another type of anesthesia. Korin at the front desk needs to be more reasonable, less accusatory, and more courteous. After the experience so far with them, I see why the castle dentals have terrible reviews in general. Currently I'm rating it a 1 and I haven't even had my visit yet. Be mindful when dealing with Jessica in the office. She is rude, snotty, and unkind. She was short with me in the phone verifying insurance, which increased my already existing anxiety. When I called back to ask her name and supervisors name she asked why. I proceeded to tell her, earlier when you called you were short and rude with me. I did not appreciate it as I'm so stressed about going to the appointment to begin with. She proceeded to tell me I was Wrong, she was not snotty or rude, and acted as if she couldn't possibly care any less. This review is for the Castle Dental Near the Arboretum by H-E-B and the brick oven and sees candy. The location is pretty convenient, and the parking is easy. On my first visit, I came here with my family members, and they did exams only. It was pretty obvious to me, that unless the teeth looked pretty easy to clean during the exam, they recommend a deeper cleaning, with a much higher price tag, which was not covered by insurance. The problem with this is they did not want to do any other cleaning and I could not go anywhere else so we were stuck. Since then, and that was years ago, I have become a little wiser. I always take meticulous care of my teeth, and make sure my family does too, and now finally we are on the track of just coming in for the dental insurance covered exams and cleanings. The front office here is wonderful, and little warning, do not come here for orthodontist care. The least painful visit to the dentist I've ever had! This morning I was served by Christine (Hygienist), Selena (Dental Assistant), and Dr. Chen (Dentist). Cleaning: Christine handled it. More comfortable than most. Probably the most comfortable ever. Crown: I've had a large number of crowns (eight?) from different dental offices in the Texas area (real talk: combination of bad genetics and poor habits). This morning, Dr. Chen fixed a failed crown that someone else had installed. COMPLETELY PAINLESS. Obviously, the injection stung a bit (I mean. It's a needle hitting your nerve in the gum, right? Still on par with a stubbed toe or sibling's pinch). But the drilling was super gentle and very quick.* Selena took the extra time to explain how everything worked and put me at ease. 100% would recommend. Thank you Castle Dental for making me less worried about my next visit! *I feel like most dentists are in such a hurry to get through their dockets that they inject the numbing agent and then get to work before it even takes effect! Brand spank'n new, so everything is clean and nice. Younger staff is hip to the latest and greatest tech, meaning they use a sonic pick to clean instead of old scrapy (although he still comes out for a little cleanup batting at the end). I loved this place! The staff was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. This was my first visit to the dentist in a couple of years. I needed to get a wisdom tooth pulled very badly. I called on 6/22 and got an appt the very next day. After filling out the initial paperwork, they called me back right away. Dr. Gutierrez was such a pleasure. She had some trouble removing my wisdom tooth because it was in pretty bad shape, but she was so sweet. She kept comforting me when it became uncomfortable (due to pressure) and we even joked around a bit and shared some laughs, which really helped ease the tension of the situation. I typically receive regular cleanings but had been 6 months since the last one so I was prepared to spend more for deep cleaning. Christine, the awesome hygienist they used to have, is gone. The woman they have now came rushing in 10 minutes late for my cleaning, apologizing because she was late to work that day -- and then she stopped my cleaning after 15 minutes in order to keep to her schedule. The work was quick and not thorough at all. When I questioned her about it, her response was to ask me if my teeth felt cleaner than they did before. I said yes, but what matters is if the cleaning holds up until my next cleaning. She just kept blowing me off - and the front desk's response was that they haven't had any other complaints about her yet. Some of the dental assistants here are fantastic - but in many ways, this place is substandard and they don't seem to care at all when issues are brought to the their attention. TLDR: won't answer the phone or respond to an emergency during business hours. Mediocre when they do. I've been going here with no major issues. Today my molar started giving me excruciating pain to the extent of crazy headache and loss of hearing in my ear. I called to schedule an appointment ASAP, the message said I called after hours despite it being 4:40 and the same message telling me they'd be open till 5. I called 2 more times same result so I pressed 0 for emergency. The operator informed me he couldn't do anything because it was still open technically, but if I called back later he would page a doctor. I'm not willing to wait while in pain and beg someone to take my money when there's plenty of other dentists willing to help in an emergency. I called another dentist I've never visited near me and they scheduled me in right away, with free x-Rays/exam etc. Beyond this nightmare the waiting times normally are long and they schedule the dentists with multiple people at once, so be prepared to wait in the chair while your dentist attends to other patients. read more

Worst dental office in history!!! Save your time, your money, and your teeth!!! Do not go to Castle Dental! Scheduled and received dental work in which the results were worse than they were when I arrived. After a discussion about the issues and my astonishment in the lack of quality of service they had me schedule a follow at another office to see about resolving the issue. During that visit they attempted to fix the issue but in order to correct the issue had actually caused damage and were unable to remove the pain and irritation caused by the first service. They did state they would refund the service including insurance and out of pocket expenses. Almost a week later while still have pain and trouble eating due to their service I called my insurance company to find another dentist only to be told I wouldn't qualify for coverage of that service for 3 years because the claim had already been processed and they had no record of a corrected claim for the refund. A check at my HSA also revealed no refund for out of pocket services. After another call to Castle to figure out what was going on they said they didn't know they were going to refund anything. After finally issuing a refund (supposedly, I still am unable to find any evidence of a refund to me or my insurance) they said it would take 30 days to process through my insurance and I should seek service elsewhere! I called the corporate offices three times and was told I would get a callback each time within 24 hrs and to this day I still have not received a call! Really!!! I lose 2+days at work, trouble eating while on vacation and now have to wait 30 days to be out of pain because of your mistakes! Not to mention me and my insurance company are still out the money until an ACTUAL REFUND is issued. To top it all off and show just how "great" their customer service is I received a certified letter from Megan the at Castle Dental stating "It has become evident that the establishment of a productive patient/office relationship will not be possible. As a result, the dental offices of Castle Dental will no longer be able to provide you dental services, effective thirty (30) days from receipt of this letter. We remain available to provide reasonably necessary emergent care during this thirty (30) day period. We strongly suggest that you seek the assistance of another dental provider to address any dental needs you may have. Should you not be able to locate another dental provider, please contact the state Dental Association and ask for a referral. We would like to emphasize the importance of continuing care with another provider. The consequences of not continuing with the recommended treatment can include but not limited to further tooth decay, infection, loss of teeth and bone and additional dental procedures. My office will be glad to forward your records to your new dentist. Please have them contact us. Sincerely, Castle Dental Braker/Pflugerville Megan ------" The gall of this dental office, its employees, management and executive teams is unnerving. I will be contacting the Dental Association but not for a referral, I will be looking at a complaint for poor practice and treatment of patient. I will be looking for another dentist, gladly, particularly once you refund the service as you stated as keeping payment for derive you provided equates to down right theft from me and my insurance company. I will also be looking into the possibility of legal action since all attempts to be civil with Castle Dental have been unfruitful. Incident will also be brought to attention of insurance company and if they are smart they will remove Castle Dental from their network (unlikely, but still smart). I asked her why this happened and she just deflected me question and told me to sit in the chair for an x-ray. This trip to the dentist was not bad at all. I get super anxious about the dentist, but at Castle they understand your fear and they guide you through the whole procedure. The ladies at the front desk are SUPER nice and easy to talk to. The dentist and techs explain what they're doing and answer all your questions. The place is clean and comfortable. I love how they write up a plan for the patients. The plan shows everything I need done, along with prices. Very easy to use. My husband and daughter go to Castle as well. Dr. Chen was very courteous and explained to me everything that was going to be done, as well as timelines and any discomfort I might expect. Selena was also very good at explaining what I should not do while I have my temporary crown in. I can tell that she cared about my recovery. I just had two appointments last week back to back at this office. I was only going to give it four stars at first, because they didn't necessarily go above and beyond; they just did exactly what I expected them to do, and gave me the correct treatment. But, I'm giving them five for two reasons: one, by comparison to the NIGHTMARE of the experience I had prior with Brident Dental, they were absolutely amazing and such a relief to find a general dentist in my network that were actually helpful. Secondly, I want to give them five stars just to offset the other bad reviews on here. My personal experience was really good. Maybe I just happened to get lucky and get a really good assistant and doctor (Dr. Bindya Reddy performed my extraction and she did an excellent job on the procedure and helped make sure I was as comfortable as possible through what is a traumatic and invasive treatment by its nature.) Also, and this is a big deal to me, THEY GAVE ME PROPER PAIN MEDICATION. Brident outright refused to give me anything at all, and I was forced to perpetually overdose on OTC pain meds for weeks at a time, causing major stomach issues and dizziness and temporary deafness. If I had gone to them first, I would've had the right pain relief and probably wouldn't have had to miss so many shifts at work. I don't want to discredit other people's bad experiences here. But I know for myself I will be going back next time I have an issue. I'm grateful that I found them. read more
