Let's face it nobody really likes going to the dentist, but when you find a dental practice that listens to your concerns, makes you feel heard and wants to make you feel comfortable with your decisions, Forest Family Dentistry is the place. Everyone was warm and friendly, they didn't just tell me to have a seat when I arrived, they asked how my day was. I was also asked a thorough list of questions about my teeth, mouth and jaw, and although it felt like a lot of questions, I was shown how important all that information was to helping my doctor understand my issues, including the issue with my jaw clicking. I went to Forest Family last year for the first time for a checkup and a cleaning. The dental assistant initially polished my teeth, but skipped multiple teeth and the dentist did not do a good job cleaning and didn't even check my gum levels. I left that visit with my teeth still feeling dirty. I thought maybe this was the norm for this practice until I came home and told my husband and he had also recently been to Forest Family that same week, with a different dentist, and had a very different experience. I then called the office, spoke with the office manager, and explained the situation. He seemed to side with the dentist, even when I said that my gum levels hadn't been checked and I have had issues with my gums receding on certain teeth, but agreed to let me come in for a redo of the cleaning with a different dentist (the same one my husband saw). I liked the second dentist a lot more and she did a very thorough job cleaning. I had also been having some pretty serious pain on one tooth and knew that I needed either a crown or a root canal. Both the original dentist and the second dentist told me that they thought a crown could fix the issue. When I came in for my appointment for the crown, they had to numb me 3-4 times because of the level of pain I was in, which should have been a sign that they should have sent me to get a second opinion from an endodontist instead of just proceeding with the crown, but they didn't. Instead, they rescheduled me for the following day with additional time to account for the number of times they had to numb me. I came in the next day and they had to numb me at least 4 times (the most that dentist had ever had to numb a patient, according to her). The crown didn't work and I continued to be in excruciating pain even after they put in the permanent crown. After another visit to Forest Family, I finally went to an endodontist about a month after, who said that I absolutely needed a root canal. I also took the x-rays that Forest Family took to get a second and third opinion from 2 other dentists, both of whom saw the x-rays and listened to my concerns (same exact ones I shared with Forest Family) and said that they should have sent me to an endodontist instead of just proceeding with the crown. If I had gone with an endodontist, they could have given me their opinion as to whether a crown could fix the situation. Putting aside the money, I could have avoided the excruciating pain I was in for weeks after the crown. The biggest difference is that by proceeding with the crown (instead of sending me to an endodontist), Forest Family could charge me for it, instead of the endodontist. My husband has also had a similar experience where he was charged for extra x-rays (that he told them he had already had done) and was then charged extra for it by insurance. He followed up with the office by email, but never received a response and yet he continues to receive emails asking him to pay. Overall, I find that Forest Family has questionable billing practices and I would not recommend them. read more

Update, I went to an endodontist for a root canal today. The crown I had was less than 2 years. I floss once and brush twice daily, however the infection was deeper than originally expected or there was a fracture that went deeper than expected, causing me to need a root canal. This may explain why this crown procedure was so much more painful than usual. I'm not sure if any other dentist would have caught this and properly suggested a root canal to begin, or shaved off more tooth to set the crown, only the dentist can explain. But I can say my experience was unsatisfactory as I needed a root canal so shortly after the crown. read more

Forest dentistry definetly on the expensive side. The can't keep a Hygenist on staff , because they don't pay much. You will get a different one every time. The are interested on running a bill ( x-rays) etc.. more than helping you with your issue. Feedback from them is none existent. I had an appointement on Feb 26 at 3:00pm. They called me at 9:10 to move the appointment at 10:20am, I was there 10:00am and the hygenist ( not sure what happned) never showed up A Doctor came to learn how to improve things. At 11:00 she told me it is too late for the appointment so they need to reschedule. My re-schedule next week was cancelled an houy later from the Dr Blumenthal and he asked to go to another dentist . So i went in person and reached my appointment same day. They told me it was a missed appointment. I recently had an emergency where i was in the hospital and my appointment was missed again. So i received a bill from the dentist office for $50 dollars. Mind you i have dr. Notes. For the day i missed. So i called the office and spoke manager Michael. He was very unprofessional, did not want or have the need to want to help me. Said that his staff is paid for and ready to go so unless i cancel within 24 hours it's their policy to bill you with a missed appointment fee. It's sad I've been at this clinic for 3 years. But they seem to care more about money than the patient. I recommend this place to no one. read more

I've been a patient at Forest Family Dentistry for 6 years and was a patient when only the Anderson location was open. Forest Family helped me out tremendously when I was in a tough spot as a new patient and needed an emergency root canal. Dr. Bethell came in on a weekend to perform the procedure and did a fantastic job. Over the years I have always gotten incredible care from the dentists, hygienists, and DAs. I've referred countless friends and coworkers to this practice. This is why it makes me really sad to see the recent changes. As the practice grows it feels like the service has really gone downhill. Now when I come in I feel like nothing but a number. I recently had to reschedule a cleaning/exam and was told the next availability was a year out. Crazy! So much for 6 month cleanings I guess. Also, the last time I was in I had a very unusual encounter with the front desk. The lady who checked me in was incredibly rude and accusatory. I mentioned my experience to the practice directly in their feedback request email. Never heard back. So I guess those are either not read or they don't care to reach out when there's a problem. I'm happy Dr. Bethell is experiencing so much growth and success, but it's really sad to feel this place that was once so special turn into what now feels like a corporate money grab. Just recently had my yearly check up and had a change of Dr since the previous left. The new dentist Erik Meckel was fantastic. He fit me in for a procedure I had been putting off doing since he had a cancellation. I had to have a temporary crown why I was not looking forward to as the previous times the temp kept falling out leading to painful situations and having to come to clinic only for it to fall out within an hour. This time the temp stayed on the whole time despite me flossing, brushing and eating. I don't know if it was due to better cement used or that Dr. Meckel just knows what he's doing. He really made me feel comfortable and made sure I was okay through long procedure. I love the Anderson location the staff is always friendly and welcoming! read more

Dr. Robin Bethell immediately contacted me after he saw my feedback. He gave me a solution by checking my teeth again himself, and I got more aligners on July 27th. Dr. Bethell listens to his patient, and explains the details. Obviously he cares about his business and his patients. He's patient and responsible. Jack, the dental hygienist did a great job on my third gum therapy session. The whole Invisalign process will take a little longer than before, and I'll be traveling. Dr. Bethell said they can ship the trays to me in the future, which will be a great help. The new aligners I got this time have a strong chemical smell, I'm not sure why. I used the tray cleaner and lemon, the smell finally faded after 2 days. I will see how my teeth look after 12 more weeks by using the new trays, and will post another update. read more

Ii like the dentist there, although i had the worst hygienist at Forest Family Dentiatry. The hygienist let spit run out of my mouth, cut my lip with the water sprayer, polished all my teeth with a couple of swipes and constantly told me to open my mouth wider. My mouth can only open so wide. She said hygienists go to different schools and do it differently. I've been seeing dentists for over 50 years. I've always had issues with my teeth ever since I had braces. It's like I have a cavity every place one of Those metal things were glued on. I hate the dentist. Hate it. I've dreaded it my whole life. The doctor at the Anderson Lane location are amazing. They are the only dentists I've ever met that don't pull up with all their strength on the darn floss and poke you with sharp metal objects and then act amazed that your gums will bleed a little. Because of the way they have handled me and the fantastic job they have done on a couple root canals and crowns, I actually feel secure and not self conscious going to the dentist. They don't guilt and shame you for having a cavity like every other dentist. Sometimes I get some weird vibes from the front desk staff and that's the most uncomfortable part of my visit but during my time in the chair the hygienists and the dentists are just the most kind and understanding people. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Robin Bethel since 2014. Even as I moved employers (change insurance) I still look forward to returning. I experience a high level of professionalism and high quality of service. I feel that they do go out of their way to make your experience stress less and as ease as possible. I may had couple appt booking glitches (I had major phone issues and couldn't receive voicemails and they weren't getting my preference for email communication only) but it's now worked out (finally got new phone) and admit that they did not read my email only requests. My update is in regards to my Invisalign treatment thus far (one month). Dr. Bethel is a Diamond level provider (I had no idea!) and so his methodology expedites your treatment significantly; essentially saving you money on extra trays. Since he's the best of the best, he also can give a discount since he serves so many cases! Two best tips: Use the chew toy and keep the Invisalign in 23.5 hours a day! When I was on a different insurance, other doctors would estimate $6K and nearly 2 years of treatment. With Dr. Bethel, he is confident in a 7 month treatment. With the combination of new technology and Dr. Bethel being part of the innovative docs push to improve on treatment methodology, I feel I am in good hands... especially with a close friend admitting to 2.5 years of treatment (projecting to end in 2020) with her doctor. He really cares of the patient's well-being and unlike other offices where I always feel scammed into more services and more costs. Still highly recommend and will follow-up with a smile after my teeth are straight! read more

I first went to the Anderson's location of Forest Family Dentistry after my previous dentist stopped accepting my insurance. It was an emergency visit after one of my teeth cracked from a popcorn kernel went rouge. I was told the tooth has to be removed and, along with the Dr. Meckel, I decided on opting for setting a dental implant as a tooth replacement. As a first stage, after the cracked tooth was removed, bone graft was put and had to wait for six months for the area to heal before the implant can be set. Needless to say, I fully paid for the both removal and the bone grafting procedure. Six months passed and I returned to the clinic. They took some X rays and a did full mouth scan and Dr. Meckel checked the area and said that everything looks well and asked if I still want to take the implant path. I responded that I do and we set a date for the procedure. At this point I was required paying half of the amount of the treatment in advance. That's OK, I had no problem with that. The day of the treatment is when the story takes a turn for the worse. I was at the clinic almost for three hours, where the treatment taking most of the time. Long story short, something went wrong with the procedure, causing the dental implant to be set too low. It then had to be removed, bone graft had to be put again and I had to wait for another six months. When I left the clinic in agony that day, I was told that there's no charge of the visit. Make sense right? I got out in a worse condition then I got in. But it doesn't end there. Six months have passed and now I'm being told that they cannot complete the procedure and I need to see an oral surgeon for that, which makes me think Dr. Meckel should have never do the implant to begin with, but I'm diverting. Remember I paid half of the cost of the implant? What about that money I asked? I now need it to pay for the oral surgeon services. We'll get back to you on that. Three weeks pass and I don't hear anything, so I sent an email to check on my refund. I get a call the next day with a representative calling to confirm the card to make the refund to. But something in not right I said, I paid much more than this amount. Let me check and get back to you the representative said. A day passed and I get an invoice and then a call. What is the delta you asked? I was charged for the bone graft that was used to fix Dr. Meckel f**k up in the failed procedure. Not only that, the charge is twice as high of the original bone graft fee I paid for, when I started the process. This is too much! Not knowing to do your job is one thing but asking me to pay for it? Imagine you're building a house. You're paying for the foundation pour and then later in construction the contractor makes a mistake causing it to get damaged and it has to be repoured. In what world would you think you pay for it? TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. UPDATE: After posting this review Forest Family Dentistry owner has reached out (responded my review) to make things right. They reviewed the invoice and refund the unjust charging. Dr Meckel also reached out to apologize for the incident and make sure the charge was refunded. read more

I decided to visit the new Burnet location of Forest during Covid because I had some tooth pain and needed a cleaning badly. While I was impressed by the pre-visit procedures, the actual physical visit smashed my heightened expectations. Before visit: When I filled out forms online, I was really excited to see a questionnaire that asked about any sensitivity to certain situations in the office, such as having instruments in my mouth for a long time, being left alone in a chair, certain noises and smells. I am en extremely sensitive person and have heightened smell, touch, and auditory sensations, so I checked many of the boxes. Upon arriving at the office, I had to wait in the car for about ten minutes. Not ideal. When I was called in, I checked in at the front desk and was then led down a hall, where my temperature was checked via infrared thermometer. I was disappointed to see: *no additional physical barriers between chairs, other than the built in cabinets. *use of aerosolizing equipment during covid *hygienist was wearing mask and shield, but doctor was only wearing mask *none of my sensitivity input was taken into account. I was left alone in the chair multiple times, once for almost ten minutes while I could hear the staff socializing in the back room. *lack of a thorough cleaning. I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth, which always gets a good cleaning and flossing when I visit the dentist. Not this time! The staff was friendly and equipment was new and very fancy. But taking all of the disappointments into account, I will be seeking out a new practice for my next visit, especially if we are still in a pandemic. read more

I cannot stop raving about my lovely experience at Forest Family Dentistry yesterday! From the email communication in setting up the appointment to wrapping up my visit, I was impressed at the tight ship operation they run. I was first seen by Angel, who was so kind and helped explain what we were up to. She set expectations perfectly. Then my Dental Hygienist was a complete rockstar (sorry I can't recall his name!). He treated me with the upmost respect and seemed genuinely concerned about my well being. The cherry on top of this experience was of course, Dr. Bethell. Such a professional, gracious, thoughtful and considerate of my overall health. As much as I was there for my teeth, I felt like they all cared about me as a whole person. I work in tech and I felt like I was walking into a tech office. Huge kudos to everyone who made it their job to take care of the minuscule details, I noticed it all! I say all this because boy, the practice I was coming from was in two words: hot mess. I'm not going to share the name of the practice, but they could certainly learn a thing or two on how to treat patients and maybe not be so full of themselves. Whether it be through insurance or collections and credit score. Also, I already have to get Dr. Bethel's filling repaired. He does not have enough experience as he did not even correctly label which number teeth was each when he sent me evidence. I would love to give a review about their actual services but I couldn't even get a solid appointment. I have a fear of dentists but finally gained the courage to call and make an appointment to start regularly going again. They're booked till November but I thought it was fine since that should mean they probably have a lot of happy patients and was put on a cancel waitlist. I got a text this morning at 9:12 saying there was a cancellation for Saturday and asked if I would like it. I texted back yes at 9:15 and then got a response that it was already filled which seemed odd that they would offer a spot but not let someone have longer than a couple minutes to respond. I then texted this and got a response offering a spot at 9:40 Saturday. I said okay. Then they called me saying they were unsure what I meant by my response of ok and that technically I haven't filled out paperwork to get a different appointment. I was extremely confused about how they didn't know okay meant yes as well as I was never told I needed to fill out anything or why they would then offer me 2 appointment times if I wasn't allowed to have them and asked if that meant they were canceling my new appointment. THEN I got a response that they had me as a existing patient and why I didn't get the first appointment was it had a shorter time period than a existing patient and that they fixed it and I was yet again put on a different list for an appointment. This made no sense as if I was listed as an existing patient than shouldn't I have been allowed a longer time frame like they said to respond? Also it seems like their mistake that they should just accept and try to let me have an appointment they offered? I don't know as someone already nervous about dentist this just gave me a really bad feeling. They can't even set an appointment for me. The scheduling process was completely painless. The facilities are beautiful but not in a way that makes you wonder where your money is going (read: I've had bad experiences with Los Angeles private practice). While you wait and they're all up in there, they let you choose through Netflix to watch whaterver you want. I'm pretty sure there are over 10 million options on Netflix... no more pop a VHS in here. They were running a little behind schedule and even offered me a free teeth whitening treatment while I waited. AMAZING. All in all, I had some things I needed taken care of but they didn't slam me with them alongisde SOS ASAP $$$$$$. They give you your priorities and your watch list and are completely trustworhty. Yep. I drank the kool-aid. And I LOVED IT. The reviews are all as true as they say. Staff was great, my dentist was great (I forgot his name but he looked like a young Ray Romano). Having the horrible plaque lazer noise drowned out by the sound of Parks and Rec through my headphones was amazing. Yeahhhh they have flat screens mounted on the ceilings so you can watch your shows the whole time! AND they are open till like, 7:30, which is kinda neat. Just FYI, I tried to schedule a cleaning, but the first available slot was around 3 months out. However, I got in within a week for a New Patient Exam, and they scheduled a bit of extra time for a cleaning at the end, so that was cool. Anyway. Great dentist. Great xray technician/nurse. I'm on a long business trip and on the 3rd day in, clear across the country in Florida (thousands of miles away from where I live in Hawaii) one of my molars cracked and a piece broke off, on the side I chew on, and exposed the filling. So I'm almost 10 days from being home, and I called my dentist who suggested I get it looked at so the condition doesn't worsen and generate an infection, especially while I'm traveling. Yelp to the rescue! I Yelped dentists that were opened late in Austin, TX, my next travel destination. I filtered out only those practitioners with late hours, stellar ratings and reviews, and those I could "message" through Yelp. I sent the same message to 5 dentists, explaining my situation and hoping one of them accepted my insurance and could see me the next day during a small window of time in between my work appointments and flights, and to my absolute delight Robin from Forest Family Dentistry was the first to reply, within just a few minutes, with a message acknowledging receipt of my message, assuring me they accepted my insurance, and that someone will call me back in 20 minutes. True to their promise they did, and they were able to get me an appointment in their Austin North location for a time after I was to arrive in Austin. She also sent me forms to pre-fill out electronically and submit without printing. That was so convenient and efficient! On the day I was to arrive in Austin, there were weather issues that cancelled my flights causing me to reroute my flights to a different city which took me nuch longer to get to the dentist office. I called Forest Family Dentistry, and Audrey was happy to change my appointment and gave me the number to the Austin North office to call if I was running late. Once in town, I was stuck in Austin's rush hour traffic so I called the office and Jordan was so understanding and assured me I was okay with my time. By the time I got there, it was 5:30 pm, 30 minutes after my appointment time! Arriving at the office which is clean and welcoming, I was greeted warmly with smiles and signed a few more forms. I did not have to wait long before Sean called my name and took me into an exam room where the tooth was x-rayed. Soon Dr. "Rick" whose full name is Dr. Richard Donkersgoed came in to examine my tooth. They leaned my chair back and I was able to see an image of my tooth on a TV screen affixed on the ceiling. How genius is that? The image was used by Dr Rick to explain the condition and recommend treatment options. He was very reassuring and said not to worry. The office prepared an estimate of my treatment cost with the insurance and I accepted. The cost was very reasonable. Next Dr Rick came in with Sean also attending, and applied the numbing solution. I was to wait 20 minutes for it to take effect but in the meantime, Sean offered me the option to watch one of my favorite shows on Netflix - on their ceiling TV (I'm a subscriber anyway). With Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Monica making me laugh, I was put more at ease knowing treatment was about to happen! After 20 minutes Dr Rick did multisurface filling and explained what he was doing every step of the way. He was gentle and always so very personable. I wish Dr Rick practiced in Hawaii. Sean showed me a post-treatment image and it looked great. I was very pleased with the results. On my way out, Jordan and the receptionist that processed my payment were very friendly. Everything about my experience from start to finish was very positive and I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend Forest Family Dentistry. They are so accommodating, professional and affordable, and never once made me feel less important because I was an out of town customer, or gouged me for an emergency visit.
