We received a quote to replace our HVAC system including the water heater. The quote was good, so we went ahead with the installation. They had a special deal going on that included a free furnace with the purchase of an air conditioner. The install was scheduled the next week, went very well. The techs were efficient, friendly, and did a great job. We just got a call the 3rd week of March that they wanted to come out and double check the A/C unit before the summer cooling season and they performed the checks and everything is good to go. On Wednesday Nov 3 I woke up to me furnace not working. I took a look and noticed that the ignitor was not heating up properly. I called my regular mom and pop place but they were booked and recommended Castle. They were able to come out that morning and told me that there would be an $89 service charge which seemed reasonable. I checked Amazon and an ignitor goes for less than $20 so I figured that, even with some markup the bill should be no more than $150 including the service charge. WRONG. They priced their ignitor at $290 bringing my total to $379. I considér this kind of practice to go beyond price gouging. No idea how they manage a five star rating but I will never use these guys again. read more

I had Cassel come check my furnace last week. The unit had been in the house for the eight years I owned it. They came on time, even a few minutes early to the appointment and set to work doing their maintenance and inspection of the unit. All was going well until they found two of the three heat exchangers were cracked. This can cause carbon monoxide to enter the air ducts. I was willing to get it fixed, but they offered a more than fair price to have the entire twenty year old unit replaced. And they did it that day! The installation technicians arrived at 10:30am and had my new furnace installed and tested by 2pm. The service techs were affable and true professionals for their entire visit. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the install and the expertise showed by all the technicians that I interacted with. I'm always a bit leery of technicians and how they price things, but Cassel offered a same day install at a price that was more than fair. Highly recommend them. read more

I first had Cassel come to our house a little over a year ago. One of our rooms was getting way too hot, and when the company who installed our furnace repeatedly couldn't figure out the problem, we decided to call Cassel. They immediately found and fixed the problem, and we thought we'd found the best company ever. Fast forward to this past October. One of the first cold days of the year, the temperature wasn't reaching the set temperature, so we called Cassel. Some guy came and gave my husband a spiel about how we needed to clean our filter. The problem seemed to be fixed - until 6 weeks later, that is. Our house was getting colder and colder, so we called Cassel again. The same guy came and took a look around. He told us that we needed to change our filter, for some really complicated reason, and then he launched into a 45 minute sales pitch for some $1600 filter and UV light system. It was like he had no understanding of human emotion - my husband and I couldn't have looked more upset. We had company over for dinner and this guy just kept talking. We kept cutting him off and saying that we would need to think about it, how much do we owe now so that we can get back to our dinner? The guy assured us that he definitely fixed the problem this time, that it was definitely the filter. We bought the best quality filter at Home Depot, which cost $20. The Cassel guy told us that AT BEST we could find a standard quality filter online for $50-60. Thank goodness we were suspicious!! Tonight we came home - about 3 weeks after our second furnace episode - and the furnace isn't working. There is no way I will call back Cassel, tonight or ever again. I do not care about their $79 all the time service call - I guarantee, you WILL be paying $79 all the time because you will be calling them repeatedly to fix your furnace! When this company first launched in Champaign in 2014, they really knew what they were doing. Apparently that was just their introductory offer. I'm so angry that we spent so much money trying to get them to fix our furnace. read more

They charged $180! They did nothing but change the furnace filter, that we provided! They spent a lot of time trying to sell us a $3,000 plus air purification system! They defaced our property by sticking a non-removable sticker on our furnace advertising their company. I will not call them again!! read more

After suggesting I invest about $2000 in parts and labor into my furnace, they asked if they could just have a salesperson contact me about a new furnace. I appreciated their quick response to my call, but with one of the parts being marked up over 700% and the other over 300%, I took my business elsewhere to CU Mechanicals - much better pricing and very knowledgeable and responsive as well! read more

I called them last night to have the pilot on my water heater lit, a 5 minute job. The dispatcher said the service call would be $79 and the total cost would be pretty close to $79 since it was a 5 minute job. I did tell them all that was needed was a propane torch and a mirror. A few minutes later, I got a call from the actual tech. He said the job would cost (a) $180 and then (b) $218; $79 for the service call (diagnosis and recommendations) and $139 for labor. I gulped. He did suggest I use a long lighter and do it myself. He then told me he was in Fisher, IL as if that ought to matter to me; I had called a Champaign company. There was nothing to diagnose and lighting it would have taken no more than 5 minutes. I think the radio ads are rather misleading. read more

I highly recommend Cassel Home Comfort for furnace and AC service and installation. I gave them a call after hearing their ad on the radio about their fall service special, which was a safety check of both furnace and AC. A very friendly dude came out and checked over my really, really old furnace and, using a fancy camera, discovered that I had some cracks in my heat exchanger (which is really bad news and makes the furnace very unsafe). He showed me the cracks, explained what it all meant, and said he'd make a DVD of the video so I could show my wife as well. He took a quick look at my AC and realized it was nearly new and not in need of service, so he only charged me half of what I was expecting to pay. A couple days later, two other gentleman from Cassel, one who has been working in HVAC for over 20 years, came over and checked the furnace again. The camera they have is fairly new to them, and they just wanted to make sure they were really seeing cracks before they told me I had to get a new furnace. I so appreciated them taking their time to come back and doublecheck everything. I then got bids for a new furnace from three other companies. All three were quality companies, but Cassel won my business. Rich the sales dude is just the nicest and most easy-going guy in town, and he was such a delight to chat with. He did not try to give me the hard sell or push me into making a decision, which I greatly appreciate. He was willing to negotiate, and brought his bid down a bit and threw in a couple extras upon my request. In the end their bid was not the cheapest I received, but it was definitely the best, given the quality of the company and the products and warranties they offer. The day of the install Jaime and John arrived bright and early and on-time. They were very efficient and professional but also very friendly and willing to take some time to chat and answer my questions. These guys know what they are talking about. They spoke highly of their company and their boss, and talked about how well they are treated as employees and people. They obviously love their job. I loved hearing that and it made me even happier about my decision to use them. At one point Mr. Cassel himself stopped by to drop off a piece of equipment and to make sure everything was going well. We had a nice talk, and it was great meeting the owner of the company (not something I get to do all that often). Obviously I had a great experience with Cassel, and I highly recommend them. I manage a number of houses, and I've used All Seasons for all the HVAC work, for years. I can't think of anything to complain about with them; I've been happy with all the work they have done. The friendly office does a good job of scheduling and sending out the techs and following up. They schedule at convenient times for me, and also can come out in a hurry in an emergency. Don has been my tech, and he does a thorough job of checking the equipment and fixing any issues. He explains everything clearly and seems to take extra care. One example is that my home office used to get too hot and they were able to install another cooling duct in the floor, which fixed the issue for minimal cost. I trust them and I appreciate all their help. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I advise anyone and everyone to steer clear of Cassel Home Comfort Heating & Cooling. You probably just got the direct mail piece that I did. Since I do need to replace my HVAC system, I called for a quote even though I thought their offer was too good to be true. Not only was it too good to be true, it ended up costing me $90 to fix my furnace (Cassel quoted $210). I fell for the "we'll give you a free heater inspection in return for your letting us bid on your system" gimmick. I was told initially by the salesperson that my heat exchanger was cracked and then by the technician who came out that the transformer was bad and that neither the furnace nor the a/c would work until it was replaced. I said I would have my usual HVAC company take care of it when I had the a/c inspected in a couple of weeks. I remember their crestfallen looks...and now I know why. After several days without heat, I was getting cold and so had my trusted company come out to replace the transformer. Lo and behold, there was nothing wrong with it. But there WAS a disconnected wire (one of five in a junction box, so highly unlikely that it became disconnected on its own). Do I know for a fact that I was swindled? Judge Judy would say that since I didn't see the technician disconnect the wire, I can't prove it, and that the fact that everything was working fine before the salesman arrived doesn't constitute proof. But I know in my gut that, at the very least, I was told I needed a repair (and, "with a furnace this old, you really ought to just replace it rather than spending any more money on it") when it did not need a repair. And that constitutes a swindle in my book. Steer clear of this company! Update: My trusted long-time company, Rose Heating & A/C, actually fixed the furnace for nothing. They are sending back my check for $90, feeling that I suffered enough without additional financial burden. read more
