Had my daughter's wedding reception at Castleton Banquet and Conference Center located in Windham NH. The property, over looks a beautiful lake, which was perfect for the outdoor ceremony, except for the occasional local wahoo boating by. However, for the most part they were very respectful. The whole event was organized very well, Food was fantastic, from the appetizers to the main course. When I saw no knife except a butter knife on the table when the filet minion came, I was a little worried, but it was so tender it essentially cut like butter. My husband and I recently went for Waterfront Dining on Cobbetts, and had the most wonderful overall experience. The food was average. It could have used more seasoning, and the medium steak was well done, but everything was fresh, so we appreciated that. The views and grounds were incredible, but what I wanted to focus on was the Service. It more than made up for the food! We have traveled all over and eat out quite a bit (too often), and this place has the best staff we have had the pleasure of dining with. We were greeted by Diane, and Patti was our server. Both were attentive, friendly, and helpful. Diane, the hostess, greeted us with the biggest smile and was so welcoming. She walked us to our seats and even offered to move our table so we could have the best view. We closed the place down, and we decided last minute to get a gift card for friends we knew would love the experience. She restarted the POS system to do this for us, even though it was late, she could have asked us to come back another day. Patti was so helpful with food and drink selections. She checked on us often but was not intrusive. Even the younger staff moving tables at the end of the night smiled a lot and made conversation with us. There was an acoustic guitarist playing in the background at just the perfect volume. It enhanced the experience. Some places we've been the music has been obnoxiously loud. Clearly their focus is on top-notch service and they seem to enjoy working together. We were so impressed and look forward to going back. read more

I've been here twice before, once for a high school prom and once more recently for a wedding. My friend had both her ceremony and reception at Castleton and I thought it was a very nice place. The ceremony was outside and it was gorgeous! The best part of Castleton is the landscaping/scenery. It is situated on a pond and the venue has taken advantage of the beauty. There are lots of trees and flowers as well as vibrantly green grass. There is also a gazebo, walking bridge, and a little fenced in area for more intimate weddings with a gorgeous view of the pond. Inside it was a standard banquet hall. They have a large room which can be sectioned off for smaller/multiple events (There was another wedding going on next-door but I didn't even notice it). And even sectioned off, the hall I was in was pretty large! The food was decent and the drinks were alright. The food was buffet style and I definitely liked the side dishes but the entrees were not really too fantastic. There were two bartenders, one was lame and made WEAK drinks which were small already. I stuck with bottled beer when I ordered from him. The second bartender was awesome--he was hot and made good, strong drinks. I'm a drunk on a mission, naturally. read more

This place is an awesome place . Right in front a small lake with nice gazebo and open outdoor space for eating. we have been having our work outing here for last two years and it has been great. Their food is really really good and cant complain. Specially their chicken. WE usually have lobsters chicken , burgers and dogs with salads and stuff and it has always been really good. This place is very nice for weddings and small meetings and outings. The outdoor space is really good and people with enjoy it . read more

My opinion as a bridesmaid was that the facility was nice, the staff was pretty good too, the director really was helpful getting us through the steps of the ceremony. The food was decent compared to must weddings, but neither good nor bad in my book. The gazebo is WAY too close to the pond, though. Not all of the bridal party could fit comfortably during the ceremony. They need to fix that. The reception space was great- good setup and complimentary lighting, which was pretty. read more

My daughter looked at several venues for her wedding. We started looking in early spring for a fall wedding, and we were a little anxious thinking we would have a difficult experience. Stephanie met us at the door and my daughter was impressed with her professional, yet personable manner. First impressions are important to my daughter, and affordability was important to me. Castleton is a beautiful setting for any wedding you are planning. The lanscape is beautiful, and was in full fall colors on October 18th. We had an unseasonable warm, sunny day for a late Friday afternoon ceremony under the trestle on the pond. The sun was very bright reflecting off the water, which made some great silhouetted photos. We were the only wedding of the day, and Melissa ran our event flawlessly. We were allowed to arrive on our own timeline. Melissa was very attentive throughout the night. We used Main Event in Londonderry for our music. Joey knows how to run an event and encourage participation. We had several children at the event, and the staff was accommodating. But top notch service If you are looking for someone who will capture the actual feel of YOU and your wedding, Stephanie Hamlin is the way to go. Everyone loved her at the wedding and still sends me messages, months later, telling me how awesome our wedding turned out. she is a pleasure to work with and isn't afraid to make bold suggestions that you would never think of. it's totally worth it. I will be getting married next August and began researching venues after getting engaged this spring. Dawn was the first person I communicated with, and she was so nice and quick to respond! Castleton ended up being both the first and last place we looked at, because we loved it so much and ended up booking on the spot. I was glad that we did, because the following week, I was told that another bride wanted to book on our date and I was given the chance to increase our ballroom size (we had been going back and forth about it). Moral of the story: book AS SOON as you have a place you love, if you have a date that you really want. I can tell you that after reviewing countless menus and wedding packages for venues in the area, Castleton definitely gives you the biggest bang for your buck. Also, you can't beat their gorgeous grounds, which are impeccably maintained and just beautiful! Stephanie was the one who gave us our tour, and she was sweet, professional, and not pushy at all. My parents had a million questions, and she handled it all very graciously. Since booking, she has been my point-person, and you really could not ask for anyone better! She returns e-mails very quickly and goes out of her way to accommodate the bride and groom; you can tell that she really wants you to have the day you've envisioned. I will update this review as time goes on and after the wedding, but until then I can vouch for their food as well, as I went in for a tasting--delicious! Again, I really think that unless you're willing to pay the big bucks in Boston, you're not going to find a place with better service, better food, or better grounds on a budget. read more

The landscape & lake are beautiful. The staff is clearly not well trained in any aspect. They switched the contact person days before my friends wedding. The rehearsal had zero rehearsing unless you count too fast, too slow as adequate direction for anything. We asked what music we'd be walking to in order to better gauge for ourselves and were shrugged off. We were told we'd line up at about here and you know kind of space yourselves and angle in. Wow! Really? Awesome! So we'll just figure it out the day of the wedding thanks cause that's why we all came out here for a rehearsal. Also they have zero etiquette in serving this is supposed to be a formal event you are hosting maybe learn how to properly set tables and how to serve or perhaps get the food out at a good temperature. read more

Just left a wedding. Place is beautifully landscaped and a great set up. Lake in the back makes a great view with a sun set. Unfortunately the food in which they asked at the venue what we wanted was rushed and uncooked. I got chicken, but their was also fish. Several people didn't eat either dish due to this issue... Potatoes where cold and my chicken was pink. When I asked about it she said its supposed to be like that and the guy next to me stated," I'm Brazilian I like my food burnt!" The lady in charge states," Im Dominican I'm the same way." The Brazilian guys was joking and said that white people eat it like this and chuckled. Then this lady states," I wasn't gonna say it but your right white people sear stuff and its the way its supposed to be!" Such a joke cause white meat cant be pink! Only red meat like stake or cheeseburgers allows for such inexperience/inaccuracy in cooking... Long story short, worst discrimination/ food I've ever experienced. Thank god the wedding took place elsewhere and I don't recommend this place to Isis to eat or have an after party. read more

What a beautiful place. I have been here twice; once for a prom back in high school and most recently for wedding. The service was outside and it was set up very elegantly and the reception inside was a lot of fun and the staff was friendly and helpful. We were a big drinking crowd but there was never too long of a line at the bar because the bartenders were fast and poured good drinks. I would consider this place for sure if I were having a nice party like an anniversary or 50th birthday or even for my own wedding (whenever that may come). I wish it was a nicer day so I could have seen a little more of the outside grounds but i'm sure with all my friends getting married I may just end up here again. read more

Since the moment we booked Castleton after attending a bridal show there, we knew we made the right choice. Dawn was always there to explain the wedding process, answer any question no matter how silly you think it is, and even add on a last minute gluten free meal. We felt that right away our wedding was going to be a success, and we were right. Dawn and Stephanie are wonderful, you couldn't ask for better people to work with on your wedding day. Stephanie went above and beyond to make sure the day was a success. They coordinate everything so perfectly that everything ran smoothly. The food was wonderful, the location beautiful, and we are still getting great feedback from our guests. Castleton also offers great "off season" packages, and recently did some beautiful renovating. I would not recommend this place for a wedding. I had mine there the other weekend and it was an okay experience during the wedding, but after was horrible! I am not a complainer at all..but this was the biggest day of my life! If you have high expectations, do not have your wedding here. The food was cold, over a dozen people had food poison after! The servers were rude to the parents, the staff was really loud during the father/daughter & mother/son dance! So rude! They forgot to put my flower petals down the isle. They threw out the only cake that was in front of us during the dinner (should have asked us if we wanted)...I never got to try my own wedding cake!!!! Also, after all this we called to let them know and they won't even work with us on a credit! We bought people food at another restaurant after the wedding since at least 40 people didn't want the cold food. They won't even work with us on that. I asked to speak to supervisor and they won't give me the phone #. There are a couple other things that happened, but I think you get the idea. Only great thing was the view! read more

Everyone here is nothing short of amazing! from the moment we got the tour and met Stephanie I knew it was it! She goes above and beyond, which made me extra excited to hear she was one of my day of coordinators! I was lucky enough that we was training Alex so I got two day of coordinators! I have a few of the reviews here and I am pretty sure they are either still drunk from the reception or are confused as to where the event took place. The staff at Castleton are nothing short of amazing! I just celebrated my daughters wedding this past weekend and the Castleton staff made it the most memorable night of our lives. Our coordinator was Caitlin, a cheerful and ext remely attentive employee. From the very first moment we met with her she catered to our every need, they should be proud as a company to have someone of her caliber working there. The food was fresh from the oven and cooked to perfection (I should know after 28 years in the food industry). I will absolutely be recommending Castleton to anyone I know that is planning an event. As MOG recently, I highly recommend the Castleton. The areas outside for the ceremony, photos, and cocktails on the patio are just gorgeous - with the lovely pond in the background and pretty gazebo and bridge, with flowers all around. It's so beautiful it actually looks fake in the pictures! The indoor reception room was very pretty as well, once the linens and lighting were in place. And there was plenty of room for guests to move around, get food and drinks, and dance. I didn't take much time to eat, but what I did eat was good (mashed potato bar was great and by the time I got one of the last glassfuls, it was still nice and hot), but more importantly, the service was excellent. The hostess coordinated everything very well, responded to all questions promptly, and had all of the table cards and favors set up perfectly upon guest arrivals. The servers, including bartenders, were all very friendly and helpful. I seriously do not understand some of these other reviews because everything went off without a hitch for us. I can understand that it might be too small a ceremony space if you had a larger group than ours (~140), but it was perfect for us. And all this at a reasonable price! Many of the guests hadn't even heard of the Castleton before, but all I heard was how impressed they all were with this gem of a venue. read more
