So there are two different models of cat/animal cafes: One type is focused primarily on adoptions, rescue, rehabilitation, education, etc. Many partner with local nonprofit organizations and charities to help address the larger free roaming cat issue(s) on the island. There are many of these types of cat cafes on Oahu. There is also one on Maui. The other type is a for profit business that offers customers the opportunity to relax and interact with beautiful and sometimes exotic animals. This model is very popular in Japan and Cat Cafe MOFF, as a Japanese company, definitely falls into this category. Customers pay for a fixed amount of time with the cats (30 minutes, 1 hour, etc.) The entry comes with a complimentary drink. You can purchase additional treats for the cats. The cats here are not adoptable. They are well cared for in a clean and comfortable environment. The staff is pleasant and attentive to the cats' care and needs. It would not be fair to criticize one for not being enough like the other. Personally, our family supports both. Our kids loved their time at Cat Cafe MOFF and can't wait to return. Cat Café MOFF is located near the food court in Ala Moana Shopping Center and has around 12 cats of all different breeds that you can spend time with. Unfortunately, the cats are not available for adoption like some other cat cafes in Honolulu, but one of the staff there mentioned that they were planning on adopting a cat into the cafe, which I thought was cool! You pay per hour and get a complementary drink upon entry. They don't take reservations and only do walk-ins, which was fine because it wasn't too busy when we went around noon. We went during their lunchtime, so we got to see all the cats getting fed and the staff gave us a nice explanation of each cat, including history and fun facts about each breed! Vibe: It was relaxing to hang out with the cats and the staff were SUPER friendly; however, most of the cats didn't want to be played with, which I totally get. It was still nice to just watch them nap and run around! Absolutely adored my experience here. On our walk to the mall, we would pass this glass wall of cute cats every time; eventually, we caved and went in. We spent $23 per person for 30 minutes, which included a drink, as well as some cat treats. Before coming in, you have to go through a waiver process, as well as lock your items in a locker. There are a wide selection of cat toys to play with! We were the only ones in the studio at the time, so we had the space to ourselves. I would highly recommend getting some treats, as the cats love them! We also got to sit in on the feeding time at 12pm, where we got to learn a little more about each cat. First of all this is a real cat cafe it's not an adoption sites like a few others that we have on the island. I think cats here are either pure breed or hybrid. You can play with them while you read or enjoy your coffee. I have 2 adopted cats and I know this kind of cat cafes can be controversial but let's leave that part out of this review. I can see the cats are well groomed and the environment is very clean and comfortable. There are places for them to hide and shelves for them to jump on if they don't want to be bothered. Staff are friendly and appear very knowledgeable about the cats as well. We all had to sign a waiver before entering and were explained with the rules (no hitting, no holding cats, etc). They feed their cats at noon and 5pm so you may wanna come around that time to see that. The staff also introduce their cats at that time so you can learn more about them. The price is actually not too bad. $23 for 30 mins and $26 for 60 mins. They have kama'aina and military discounts. Kids under 3 are free. And you can purchase treats to feed the cats. Oh and a complimentary drink included. It is located next to the food court. If you know where see's candies or jejubing is then you will find the cafe. read more

I dropped in this morning to pick up some of the Cat merchandise to bring back with me for a couple of little girls in Seattle. The cotton canvas bags were small and perfectly priced at $13. Well-made with charming cats printed on them. While I was shopping the front desk staff person pointed out that Mai, their Scottish Fold kitty, was watching me very intently from right behind the merchandise. Because of time I couldn't go in and enjoy meeting the many felines that play but I thoroughly enjoyed watching them through the window as they were getting ready for their day. They were active and playful and curious in all the best ways. Next time I plan to spend an hour there. read more

My friends and I decided to check this place out and it was a lot of fun! We each got the 30 min ticket and paid a little bit more to buy cat food to feed the cats. The cats were all pretty cute and playful! The admission also includes a drink which are canned and bottled drinks. It was nice taking pictures of the cats and feeding them. It is kinda pricey to come here but they do offer Kama'aina discount! Visited this cute little cat cafe with a friend to get a fur therapy. It was $28 for an hour with a complementary drink (+$2 for a cat latte art). I got an iced latte and you can choose which cat's picture you'd like. There were plenty of cats to pet and play with. They were all really cute. It wasn't too crowded around the time we went, but most of the cats were sleeping and were hiding underneath the couches as they didn't want to be bothered. This is unlike most cat cafes and has roughly 15 beautiful purebred adult cats that are not adoptable onsite. They cost more than typical cat cafes ($23 for 30 minutes) and upsell offerings treats to the cats for an additional fee. These cats were not grateful for attention, didn't want petting and acted bothered by their surroundings. I don't have pets but I love animals. I think because of this place I especially love cats even more now :'(. They were all very well-trained and adorable. The staff was very helpful about informing us of where to go and what to do if we wanted to purchase more food for the cats to feed them, as well as telling us the names of certain cats that were interacting with us! One star. Sadly. It's my birthday today and we showed up for a 25 minute visit 30 minutes before closing. We were shocked to be flat-out refused entry by Café Moff staff-- we actually thought it was an April Fools joke at first, considering it's April Fools' Day, but a hard no was their final answer. We tried to clarify but were met with blank stares and closed doors. We were about to drop $115 for a 25-minute session on tickets alone, but clearly they're not interested in new or repeat customers. Considering we live across the street, they're really missing out. Not a good look for a business that calls itself part of a welcoming community. If this is how they treat guests--and locals, no less--we won't be returning, and we'll make sure others know to pass as well. read more

I have never been to a cat cafe. I did not even know this place existed. It was my daughter's idea while walking along the mall. We both love cats, so this was really fun. Super clean, we are required to do the steps before going in and because we were there early, there was no wait. It comes with a choice of a drinks. The cats were very clean, and we purchased cat snacks as well. In just a matter of minutes, the place is already full, but they limit the number of persons inside so no crowd issue or whatsoever. I took my 2 grandchildren ages 17 months and 2 1/2 years old along with my son and his wife. The 2 male staff was not friendly. I felt they treated the customer based on the tip they received. We are locals, and I did not tip over 10%. Secondly, one of the male employee was rude when my 2 12 year old grandson climbed on the couch. He said, "parents get your child, or we will have to ask you to leave". He did not say it nicely. Second, as we were leaving, we had a stroller, and heading out to the first glass door. My 2 1/2 grandson happen to get in front of us, and headed to the glass door. Grandson passed one of the male employees, and the employee was the only adult in the entrance door. My grandson managed to open the door and slipped his way out. I had to run past the employee and rescued my grandson while the male employee just stood there by the glass door. The cats are cute but they run away when my child and I try to pet them. They don't like to be touched. The staff are also not very friendly. One of the staff fed and played with the cats for the people outside but not for the paying customers. I paid extra for our drinks and they don't even taste that good. The Honolulu zoo is about 13 dollars for Keiki and 100 times bigger. Waikiki aquarium is about 5 dollars per person. They have a rule that 3 strikes and you will get kicked out if you don't follow their rules. My excited nephew was running and they came over to me and said.. "sir that's one warning. Your kid is running". Kids are going to run... and yes I'll scold them but that's a bit too much. The overall experience was decent. My niece had a blast with the cats. The main issue I have here is the lack of consideration when I first walked in. There was a group of three women before us who was talking to the cashier. The cashier was engaging in conversation regarding non-Cat Cafe related topics. I understand the importance of customer service, but I do feel that an additional 10-15 minutes of non-Cat Cafe related conversation came across as inconsiderate and rude. We were clearly waiting there for a while and there was no thought to how long we were waiting in line for. It was a bit upsetting, and the cashier in the front didn't apologize for the wait.. especially with majority of the conversation not being work related while customers are waiting. I understand the rules of not carrying the cats and completely agree. My niece was trying to get one of another toddler's toys that the cat sat on and she got pretty abruptly and harshly scolded. The scolding scared her and a couple of the kids around her. Yes, a rule was broken. But I don't think it warranted a harsh and embarrassing scolding. I personally think that situation could've been handled better by the individuals working there.
