One section of the business is a cafe where you can get top notch drinks and a small assortment of baked goods. Limited seating. Then you walk through a door and a gate that leads you into a cozy, comfy wonderland of kitties. The tables and chairs for seating are spaced well apart. The couches are naturally for the cats. Boyfriend loves this place. I am not really someone who likes to pay to play with cats when I grew up with them. Easy to find on Whyte with street parking everywhere. Go into the cafe first to find out if they have room to admit you. Then, if there is room, you buy your entrance fee and a drink which I think is unlimited refills. Drinks are on the pricey side but understandable if there is unlimited refills. For 2 of us it was ~$35. This allows you 1 hour of cat-playing time. Sunday at 4PM it was quite busy and they had to go count to ensure they could let us in. There was approx 8 other people inside. Sign read there were 16 cats inside as well. After entering there are really nice sinks to wash your hands before and after and even lint rollers for use. Also an upper level for older children/adults (more than 7 years old) only. We saw 5 cats in the hour we were there. 2 tabbies and a black cat were around but did not want to play nor cuddle. 1 white cat came out (from sleeping under the couch) 10 minutes before we left who was open to scratches but not play. 1 fuzzy tabby was all play and fun but with more than 6 other people there it was hard to all play with 1 cat. Non-supervised area as 1 client often picked up cats to cuddle even though the signs said not to and he was not reprimanded. Nice jazz-type music was playing which made it a nice place to sit and relax. I got the strawberry refresher which was soda stream carbonated water and ?strawberry juice - it was fine. Boyfriend got a latte - pretty standard. Couches were linty and I defiantly had to use the lint roller after. Tables and board games are available to. The Cat Café on Whyte is an amusingly civilizing diversion from what could be a busy day shopping the avenue, snacking on the things. The best part, aside from the cats, is that your coffee drinks are paid-for during your admission hour. There are sweets too, featuring maple and sugars and many colors. I was happy with the caffeine and cats. And there are a lot of cats, some adoptable (with stats on the wall), and even more cat perches, cat shelves, cat houses, cat caves, and cat toys. Small human offspring are supposed to be confined to the lower of the two cat rooms, but distractingly their otherwise helicopter parents completely zone out when bringing their brood here. Meh. Don't expect the cats to be fawning over you. Their cats. They have their own agenda and sometime you not on it. If you go ready to enjoy their presence you will be happy with the mischievous lounging from many of them. You'll be ecstatic when one actually graces you with their presence! It is a 16$ entrance fee for anyone over the age of 13 however you get unlimited drinks and 1 hour of play time with the cats . The cats are so well behaved and well groomed , they let you pet them and cuddle them as well as purchasing a small bag of treats you can give to them . The drink menu is large and they have dairy free options for everything . The snacks are very good I suggest the brownie and it's 3$ and I must say one of the best I ever had . All of the reviews I see on here are for the café itself, which is a wonderful environment to spend some time with cats. I am here to review the adoption process. We adopted two cats from the café in early December, and I have to say that we could not be happier. The two cats we adopted were each about 9-10 months old at the time, and they are two of the best cats I have ever known. They were highly socialized during their time with the SAFE team and at the café. As a result, they are very affectionate, extremely calm even with strangers, and are incredibly "people oriented". They are wonderful companion animals. If you are interested at all in bringing a cat or two into your life, I highly recommend going through the SAFE team and the Cat Café. read more

It's hard to give anything but five stars to a place that does such wonderful work both raising money for and helping to adopt out Edmonton's homeless kitties. The cafe is a beautiful environment for the cats with lots of things to climb on and toys to play with. There is also comfy chairs for the human visitors to sit on but really who would want to sit on chairs when you can be down on the floor petting the fur babies? The price tag looks a bit steep at first glance as it's $15.00 for an hour visit but it also includes unlimited hot beverages during your visit and really if you drink two I think your more than getting your money's worth. Also make sure to grab a frequent visitor punch card from the ladies at the till to earn great rewards like free baked goods and even a free admission once you get the card filled. If your down on Whyte in need of a coffee fix and have an hour to kill this is a must visit. This place is super unique and fun! Took my kids here for their birthday celebration since they wanted to play with the cats. There were 9 cats in the cafe in total so lots of options. For kids under 7, they need to stay in the lower half of the cafe which is totally fine since there are a lot of cat toys down there. The upper half of the cafe has couches (for the cats only) and a few table and chairs. They also offer games for you to play. Although this place was a little pricey ($15 for adult and $5 for kids) they do offer unlimited drinks during your one hour stay and the drinks are actually yummy!!! There are hand washing station and bathrooms in the cafe as well which is super convenient. All the animals are also adoptable which is a great way to "get to know" the cats before you decide to adopt. I highly recommend this place for a unique and fun experience. read more

Finally, a place in Edmonton that has combined the love of fur babies with the love of coffee. Opening late last month, this cafe took Edmonton up by a storm. We came second day of opening on the Friday, and there was a lineup out the door. The space is split into 2 different rooms. First the "cafe" - where you'll pay for admission and to get access to the cats, here you'll also be able to pick up drinks and baked treats. $15 for an hour with the cats and a complimentary drink! All the drinks on the board are classics you'd find at any coffee shop except they've taken an extra spin of mixing cat puns. Drinks were alright, I feel like the focus is more on the novelty of making it a cat cafe than the actual quality of the coffee. The space was very narrow and tight, with not a lot of seating available with how much of a crowd there was. They take reservations through their website so you can plan ahead and book in your preferred time slot, but walk in's are also welcome if you don't mind having to wait for the next available slot. Lounge area - WHERE THE CATS ARE! Homey chill vibe, there was about 6 cats in the room when we visited. The room is made to feel comfortable with adorable cat paintings, great area to socialize and mingle with other cat lovers. No designated area to put your belonging anywhere, you're really just claiming the few tables and couches in the room. Obviously visiting during grand opening week was beyond hectic, with loads of kinks needed to be worked out. There was miscommunication with how much people coming in and out of the cat area leading to an extremely crowded lounge. The sticker process was inefficient to manage different time slots. There was only 1 person supervising the lounge with 1 barista and 1 person working till over at the cafe side, definitely understaffed. My friend and I came here on a Sunday afternoon. I'd been to a Cat Cafe before (in Japan), but she hadn't and wanted to go. She actually has two cats at home (I don't because people I live with have allergies), and really wanted to go to this Cat Cafe on Whyte. It's $15 for an hour and you get unlimited coffee and tea during your time. The coffee is from ACE Roasters and is quite good. There are other treats (cookies, muffins, etc) that you can purchase for an additional cost. They also have fun cat theme things like mugs and shopping bags you can buy. If you like cats, or know someone who does there's lots of fun gift ideas you could get here. There are two areas in the main part of the cafe. Near the front is an area for people with little kids (6 and under) and near the back is an area for everyone else. You have to take off your shoes (so be sure to wear socks) and wash your hands before you go into the cat area of the cafe (and when you leave). The cafe is bright and spacious. There are a few different tables and chairs, as well as some couches. When my friend and I were there is was a little busy, but we managed to get a spot. I'd imagine weekends and after work/lunch hour would be a bit busy, and you might have to stand for part of your visit. I did wish they had a few more chairs, especially because the chairs my friend and I were at were like high bar stool type chairs (at a high table). Meaning we were far above all the cat action, and had to hop down whenever a cat came by (which usually made the cat leave). There are lots of places for the cats for wander about and several beds for them as well. Here's the thing with cats though, I like them, but they do their own thing. So there's no guarantee you'll get to snuggle or play with a cat during your visit. When we were there several of the cats were sleeping (and the rule is not to disturb the cats if they're asleep). There are some toys for the cats, but only a couple of the cats seemed mildly interested, and then walked away...because cats. So don't go here thinking you'll be guaranteed to play with or pet one of the cats. Could happen, but it might not. The nice thing about this cafe is they take really good care of the cats here. The cats here are from SAFE and can be adopted, so if you visit and fall in love with one of these little felines you could adopt and take a cat home. It's nice to have a cat cafe in Edmonton, especially if your someone who likes cats, but maybe can't have one yourself. read more

I was kind of expecting the cat hair all over the place And smell of kitty litter, but I was pleasantly surprised. We stopped by for a quick latte on the weekend. The cats are in a different room and the rules are you must have socks on your feet (sold for $3.00 per pair) to go into the cat room. I believe you also get two free drinks in your time with the cats- $16.00 for two hours with cats and two drinks- but I may have to revise this. I only went to try the latte, which was surprisingly good. I would put it up there just below Transcend. (I haven't found a better latte) but the medium latte was under 5 dollars- a rarity these days. So good coffee value, and I am happy to support their cat rescue operation. The staff were friendly. The downside is that there are only two small tables in the cafe. It might be hard to find a spot this winter. read more

I have been aware of this place since before it opened. I haven't visited because I wanted to save it for a rainy day. I knew that once I went, I would never be the same. And I was right. I have actually already applied for a job there. I need to be in this space with these magical creatures. I was walking by just as it opened and thought this was as good a time as any to stop the madness. My first impression was how clean and organized everything was. The cafe area was top notch and cozy, with cat paraphernalia galore. There are yummy snacks to nosh on and the drinks are no joke. There is quality coffee (I had a Caramel Macchiato), designer tea (I had a chai latte), and even smoothies (I LOVED the mango). They even bother to make little designs in the foam...I had a flower and a cat paw of cinnamon. Very clever touch. The drinks are unlimited so bottoms up! Some people may scoff at the $15 price tag for an hour with the cats, but it's pretty much free it if you have three $5 drinks. The real danger here are the cats. You will be hard pressed not to adopt one. I am not joking. I almost walked out with Penny, the little white one with yellow eyes who stole my heart. I almost cried when I had to leave her. If you have a little kid, good luck with getting out without a new pet. Don't go here unless you are looking to adopt a cat or risk the wrath of your child. These cats are seriously adorable and in every personality. They are some of the most well behaved and lovable felines I have met. They are fine with kids, even the little ones who can be less than gentle. They are active and playful and mostly polite. Sometimes they even fetch their toys and bring them to you to play. It's darling! I love that there is an area for small children and one that is for only 7 years and up. I was pleasantly surprised that the kittens bounded right down there with the children to play with them. These are not scaredy cats at all which means they are probably going to make wonderful forever pets. I love that the cafe has already adopted out over 100 cats since they opened a year ago. This place is really doing our community a service by supporting SAFE team which is a no kill organization aimed at educating the public and saving animals lives. I was passing through the area and ended up at the cat cafe because the ice cream shop across the street was closed. No regrets though! This cafe is very inviting, with lots of cat related merchandise and a good variety of drink options. They post the names of the current cats on the wall and number of cats that have been adopted from the cafe. If you have a cat, there is also a wall for you to post your cat's picture on! The cost for us to visit the cat zone is $15 for adults and $5 for little kids, which isn't a lot of money considering that it's for 1 hour and in that time frame you can have unlimited drinks; not to mention the fee also helps to maintain costs to care for the cats until they are adopted. I recommend to bring socks along, but they also have cat print socks for $3 too. The non-cat area has a nice seating area plus a few seats outdoors, but the cat area has air conditioning and the washrooms. It's also nice that the faucets are kid accessible and that the lower level has colour pages and crayons, or games to entertain as well. Older children and adults are able to access the upper level which is well decorated and very cozy looking, it's also quieter for those cats who aren't as energetic or into noisy environments. It's very clean, bright and relaxing. The workers were informative, friendly, quick with service and easily able to assist when asked. Whatever the cat treats are that are sold at the front desk, I noticed the cats are highly attracted to (even over their own kibble dish), so if you want cat company, definitely buy a little baggie of that when you get your drinks. If you're on whyte & are looking for a coffee stop to relax, this is the first place I would recommend! The decor in the cafe is all cat themed & adorable. The drinks are all well made & delicious. The staff is friendly & welcoming. The facility to interact with the cats is well laid out. The hand washing station was very neat & tidy during my visit. The bathrooms also very clean. The cafe is split into two different sections, one with the cats and the other with the barista. On the cat side they have games, which were all cat themed! As well as couches to lounge on if you're not engaging with the cats. The room itself is quite open and there are plenty of cat toys! The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars was because it took awhile for a barista to come to the other side of the cafe to make drinks. I waited with my group for a little over 15 minutes before someone came over. Which was fine, understands that they have to wash their hands and such for food safety. but the last few times they don't always have someone on the cafe side. I love this place! We don't have cat cafes where I live, so imagine my surprise when my husband and I stumbled upon this while walking down the street. We pretty quickly realized we HAVE to go in. Their deal is $15 per person and you get one hour in the "cat lounge" with unlimited drinks for that hour. They do not serve alcohol, btw. They have a few baked goodies for a separate charge, including cookies, brownies, macarons, and I think danishes or something. They have other packaged snacks, lots of cute merchandise, and treats you can buy for the cats. No people food for the kitties! Both times here in the same week, they have had 9 cats in the lounge. The drinks are good and the cats are cute. I have tried the Chai Latte, Matcha Latte, London Fog, and Vanilla Chai Frappe. After you pay, you order your first drink and enter the cat lounge. You have to remove your shoes and must wear socks the whole time. There are 2 rooms that are connected; the first room is small and can be seen into from the street. The second room requires that children are age 7+, and is up a step in the back. This room has furniture, rugs, cat beds, and cat trees. You can play some small games here, sit and relax, and play with the cats. It's hard to complain when I can sit on the floor with a can of wet cat treats and get piled in cats. What could be better?! The best part is that they are/are partnered with a cat rescue. That's right; if you fall in love with a kitty here, you can adopt one! It's a really great cause, and the money goes to help the cats. We had no problem returning 3 days apart. If I could change one thing, I would suggest having the main entrance lead only into the counter area, and have the lounge door set back from within the counter area, so patrons can only enter the cat room after paying adnission. There were a couple people who walked in from off the street and walked straight into the cat room to "say hi" to a cat. The employee working was quick to tell them this is a paid experience. Edmonton's first cat cafe!! So exciting!! This place is a dream come true for cat lovers! This place takes reservations online for hanging out in the cat room for an hour. Its $15 for one hour with a complimentary drink included. If you don't have a reservation you can still go in but there is a wait of about 15 minutes. To be honest, the drinks were not great. I had the london fog (kittea fog) and my friend had the iced chai catte. Mine tasted like steamed milk. They definitely need to improve on making their drinks better. The cat room was great! It was spacious and there were 17 cats there in total. All the cats were friendly and up for adoption. The decor was nice and the couches were comfy. Adorable place. Reservations are available online, but it doesn't seem all that necessary on a weekday afternoon. The setup is simple--go to the little cafe, pick your drink and pay, and then enter the cat area. You sign a waiver and then it's an hour with the cats! Drinks are currently unlimited for the summer--just show the cafe area your receipt and they'll make you something. There's limited food items (some cakes/pastries), but I didn't really look at them. On the cat side, the setup is spacious with two rooms and plenty of cats playing around. There's comfy chairs/tables in the back room and plenty of toys to try to entice the cats with. Best cat cafe I've ever been to! I've been to cat cafe's in other cities, including 1 in Toronto where I live, and nothing really compares to this place! I was here in the summer and it was my first time at a cat cafe and I absolutely loved it! The drinks are great though totally irrelevant to how much fun the cats here are. They're super friendly and are always ready to play - or be bribed into snuggling if you buy treats before you enter. Unlike other cat cafes, they have more rules about petting the cats - like not bothering them when they're sleeping - which I think is great because it keeps the cats happy too. This is also the CLEANEST cat cafe I've ever seen. There was one woman working inside the cat-lounge area when I was there and she did a really great job keeping the place clean, continuously lint-rolling, or wiping down any surfaces that may have needed cleaning. There's a new café in town! Oh, yeah, it also has cats. My two favourite things in the world are coffee and cats so I went to visit the Cat Cafe last week. It was around 2PM on a weekday so it wasn't super packed. They have an interesting setup- you go in, buy your drink and admission, and then you take your drink with you into the kitty lounge. Neat! My partner and I got our drinks and admission and it was just over 30 dollars for an hour in there and two drinks. The drinks were sub-par, not much to write home about. It's clear that the focus of this cafe is on the cats and not the beverages, but if I was expecting a high quality coffee drink I'd probably consider other places first. (Also, pretty pricey. You could totally go to the humane society and pet unlimited cats for free, so, do what you will with that information) The cats are all from SAFE and they're all adoptable which I thought was wonderful. When I went they had only 10 kitties, and all of them were pretty tired. We just sat and enjoyed our drinks, petting some nearby cats. Obviously I wish the cats were in love with me and climbed all over me at once, but, lets be realistic. They were cute, I give the cats themselves five stars. Staff were friendly and good at explaining how the whole thing worked. They really paid attention to the kitties and their environment. The whole area was very clean and there were staff members wiping things down and ensuring that all the cats were calm and safe, brushing them and petting them. Overall, a unique experience. Not sure if/when I'll be returning. I enjoy the concept and the place was clean, but it's less of a café and more of a cat house with some chairs and tables for humans. I love this cafe! The cats are adorable and the price is really good. It's such a chill little place where you can drink coffee and play with rescued cats. You can also adopt them! They also host Yoga with Cats every third Saturday of every month where you can sign up and do Yoga there! It was such a fun experience and even beginners can have a go at it. However, they never stated that you need to bring your own mat, so be sure to bring one! I really recommend a visit. The staff are so friendly and this cafe really just feels like home. read more

I have mixed feelings about their Grand Opening today, and sincerely hope I can re-visit them in the future and give a higher rating. Starting with the good stuff - first of all, I love cats, I love the whole trend of Cat Cafes and welcome Edmonton joining the party. Totally in favour of giving folks the opportunity to interact and adopt neutered rescues. Loved seeing how busy they were this morning and hope it can continue. The building is divided into several sections. When entering, you're faced with a door to the kitties that warns you to first go pay your "Admission Fee" of $15 EACH and get your coffee or tea in a room to the right. With our family group of 4, this was immediately a little discouraging to me - we were there to support a new business and let the children experience the kitties, but that's a pretty steep price for permission to enter. I'd suggest a family rate or one free child entry with each paid adult. There was a line-up to get to the required beverage area, and it shuffled forward quite slowly. Once inside that area, the overwhelming whiteness felt sterile - the walls, ceiling, door, tables, chairs, counter - everything is simply stark white. I'd like to suggest that they at least decorate the walls with some of the cute pictures of cats in the lounge area, or enlarged photos of some of the cats up for adoption that you could examine while waiting for your drink. I'd also suggest adding some pastry items to the display shelves, which were basically empty. The traffic flow in this area is dreadful - after you shuffle forward, place your order and wait, you then have to wend your way back thru the line to get to the front door again, rather like a salmon swimming upstream. It wouldn't be so difficult if there weren't customers lined up, but then that wouldn't be so good for business, so I hope they can figure something out. Finally, after paying our fee, signing a waiver form, and getting a non-sticking sticker applied to our hands (how about using a really cute kitty rubber stamp instead, that kids would love and wouldn't fall off within a minute), we could enter the lounge. Well, after struggling with the ill-fitting second inside door, that is. Fix it before someone breaks it! The lounge is actually two rooms, with lots of comfortable seating - it's quite inviting and cheered me up immensely. Many cute kitties, lots of off-the-floor accoutrements on the walls for them, toys scattered about, and generally well-thought-out and attractive. Suggestions - Alll staff and volunteers should have a logo t-shirt on so you can spot who to ask questions or get help. Sell more things to help increase income and lower the admission price - you cannot expect repeat business when it costs that much just to enter the premises. Get some food in the "cafe," don't be out of syrups and flavours, don't hide the cup lids, have decaf available, maybe some juice choices for children. Carry products for new cat owners ( cat toys, - even some cat-related trinkets/cards/pins etc could be displayed in the cafe - go take a look at someplace like Cally's Tea shop at how to market related items). Sell little packets of kitty nibble treats for kids to feed the kitties while playing with them. Get some t-shirts with a cute kitty saying on them. I saw a lot of empty clipboards hanging on a wall - USE them - post a picture of each cat along with any known info and a cute cute cute personality profile. Market those sweeties! Adults will gravitate to information and it's your opportunity to appeal on another level. We heard people who didn't even know you could adopt the cats. Yes, there's a sign in one of the rooms, but not everyone is going to stop and read one sign. Also post more info about your organization or have a brochure for people to pick up with your info, how to adopt, contact info, how to volunteer, etc. Wishing you much luck and the kitties loving new homes :-) read more
