I'm not sure how to address this. I've been here several times before without incident, however today's visit stirred up various emotions. I ordered as usual(coffee and some baked goods), paid and they started the coffee order. I was waiting on a banana muffin, that is in a case on the counter with other items in it. I asked if i was to get the muffin myself as it was not given to me yet and I proceeded to open the front flip-up door, however one of the staff loudly said "NO, NO, NO, NO, NO..." repeated like a parent would scold a toddler or child. In most situations, I am affected by these types of encounters, however this one angered, embarrassed and confused me all at the same time. If you are a coffee fanatic, this is the coffee shop for you. They have a very good selection of coffee beverages, and coffee supplies. They also make their own elderberry syrup and other unique beverages I did not get the opportunity to try like their coffee lemonade. I ended up ordering their elderberry latte. It was light and floral. My husband ordered an Americano with their specialty beans and it was aromatic with notes of strawberry, apricot, raspberry with a hint of floral and iced tea. Our kid ordered a hot chocolate and there was cute latte art included. He loved his drink. Customer service was friendly and efficient. I would come back here when I am in town. Not impressed. Had been wanting to get in and try this place ever since I lived on this side of town, but when I passed it, I was always hurrying to get somewhere else. Stopped in today finally, and decided to try something exotic. In retrospect, I should have gone with my old faithful, the skim latte. Instead I chose something called a spiced cocoa. I had visions of something vaguely Latin American...full bodied, sweet, with a little hint of cayenne... I was really excited to try. I'm not sure what I was handed, but profound disappointment didn't begin to cover the muck in that cup. It was disgusting, grainy, and the worst part (other than not being able to drink it because it was so gross) was the fact that I spent SIX FIFTY on a cup that was only slightly larger than your basic espresso shot (larger than a tablespoon, smaller than a tall at Starbucks). Yeah, they had some interesting coffee brewing equipment and you can buy beans and all, but I won't be returning. read more

The store has detail catalogue of their products and offer different methods of payment. Very user friendly. The shipment arrived very quickly with good package. They also packed a sample of their coffee beans which was very nice. The after sale service was great. Love to receive their newsletter because many educational information on coffee brewing. I also love to join their Instagram Live; I learn so much in brewing skills. They always experiment with different equipments, so it is good to know before I buy. He went to the National 2020 coffee brewing competition in Montreal in October and finished in first place. Ply will head to Australia in May to compete in the World Brewers Cup. Good luck! What a delight! The best coffee in Edmonton. I planned to meet a colleague here for coffee and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. The coffee is amazing, and the staff are cool. Their decor is white all the coffee paraphernalia really stands out against the backdrop. It makes you it up and take note of all that goes into making the perfect coffee. They played a lot of Pulp which I haven't heard since I was at High School and I still dig it. Lots of seating available, plug ins for those working and... in the bathroom, you'll find a heated toilet seat. And with this polar vortex, who doesn't need that? read more

I don't know much about coffee, but I do know that I enjoy drinking it. I came by here the other day with a friend and we each got a coffee and I got a croissant. I was super happy with my coffee, but the croissant wasn't quite my style. A little too sweet, I think. These folks seem to know a lot about coffee, and it looks like they have their own roasting gig in the back. They also sell a variety of coffee accessories that I was quite intrigued by. I have to talk about the bathroom. They have a heated toilet seat, you guys. That's a big deal on frigid Edmonton days like today's balmy -28 degrees. The only critique I'd give them is to add more seating! They have a pretty cool vibe and seem to be into comfort (again, the heated toilet) so it would be great to see some cozy couches or chairs in here! read more

Every time I find out there's a new coffee shop in Edmonton, I stick it on my growing "To Do Eat/Drink" list and fast track it up to the top. I am absolutely in love with coffee. And I honestly don't know how it developed past the Starbucks and the Tim Horton days of university but ever since I moved downtown, I've been surrounded by some amazing cafés. Just learning about the beans, the roasting processes, and drinking some soul soothing coffee has become quite the daily pleasure for me, something not to be overlooked as just a caffeine hit. When I stumbled upon Rogue Wave Coffee Co.'s social media, I was absolutely ecstatic to see that another local roast was just a bike ride away from me. You can never have too much coffee in my books! I had a chance to check out Rogue Wave Coffee Co. last week, spending the morning of my day off chatting to co-owner David Walsh about the new space. Alongside partner David Laville (that's correct, there's two Davids), the duo had the idea of opening up a roastery nearly ten years ago. They even built their own roaster from scratch, lovingly named Stubby! At the time, Transcend was barely taking off. Life, as it always seems to, just got in the way and the dream never followed through and the two went separate ways for a bit before returning back home to Edmonton. The dream is now a reality though, Rogue Wave Coffee Co. established in early 2014, where the Davids started roasting their own beans (out of their original roasting location in Northeast Edmonton) and selling their coffee commercially. Fast track to July 2015 and the pair now have a storefront on 105th Avenue and 114 Street and are ready to share their love of beans. Named in the tune of the "third wave" of coffee, Rogue Wave Coffee Co. now has a public space. Small and not entirely finished, the cafe currently houses a pint-sized roaster (too cute! but not their own Stubby) with a reclaimed wood countertop seating near bright windows that let in a fantastic breeze. In the future, they hope to place a communal table in the middle of the space and move in their larger roaster. David hopes to have a more official grand opening in August, an event I'm looking forward to! Their menu currently offers a wide range of brewing methods from espressos and my beloved latte to syphon, cold, and Chemex brews. Prices seem ridiculously reasonable for coffee, something I think students in the area will greatly appreciate. Rogue Wave Coffee Co. is currently working with a small supplier and cooperatives of small farms that work in a fair and sustainable manner although not all labelled and certified Fair Trade. Their current coffee selections and information can be found on their website, something greatly appreciated for somebody learning about coffee like me! Walsh's favourite at the moment: the Peruvian Cenfrocafe. Their mainstay is still commercially selling whole beans ($8 for 1/2 lb, $16 for 1 lb). Thus far, they've provided small batches for the Mercury Room and for some events held at Nosh Cafe. Aside from moving in their larger roaster, David hopes to supply local restaurants in the future and to open a bigger space across the river. He'd also like to see a space that's open on Sundays or open late and to provide a space for coffee lovers to come and enjoy after dinner or to host coffee tastings (or cuppings), all of which I'd love to see! Rogue Wave Coffee has seen a lot of positive support from the surrounding community, a lot of the customers finding the shop through social media outlets and those that work in the area. Once school season starts, I have no doubts that students will be fighting amongst themselves for some study space. I'm so happy for another local roast and so appreciative of Edmonton's growing coffee culture. The more coffee shops I go to, and subsequently the more coffee I drink, the more I learn. It makes me twice as happy to not only support a local business, but to support one that's roasting their own beans. Here's to expanding Edmonton's coffee scene! read more

My husband went for coffee at rogue wave's new location and could not stop bragging about it so naturally I went to check it out. The Almond milk flat white I had was absolutely delicious and I could see myself making many more returns. The space is big (considering their old spot) and parking is ample which is great compared to some of the nearby places on 124street. read more

Cool little spot, a little bit off the beaten track. Been in a few times, and it's usually fairly busy. Today especially, as there was a pet adoption event going on next door. They roast their own beans and the coffee is excellent. My understanding is that they're ethically sourced beans as well. They have a wide selection of coffees on their menu, including flavour profiles as well so you can order to your preference. If you can't decide - they offer coffee flights as well, thought that was a pretty nifty idea. They also serve Tea Girl tea here too, if you're looking for your fix since the storefront closed up. They have a large selection of specialty coffee and tea brewing hardware here too if you're looking for that. Lots of natural light and tables looking out at a park across the street. Definitely with a stop if you're looking for a good cup. read more

Top marks for their cappuccino and at a very nice price! They roast their own beans in back (and I've seen their beans in other shops). The space is pretty warm and comfortable despite being in a commercial strip mall. Only knock is that it's a bit off the beaten path for biking but lots of car parking. What a find! I've never been to Edmonton, but Rogue Wave roasts amazing coffee and will ship it to us in the US so super fast that the coffee arrives within days of roasting. We love coffee and don't mind spending money on the best quality coffee beans and Rogue Wave is a favorite. They offer a changing array of interesting varieties, and i love being able to buy small sample-sized packets of some beans so i can try them before committing to a bigger, more expensive bag. That said, we've tried many varieties and they're always very good. They had one limited quantity roast last year that I swear brought tears to my husband's eyes. Just fantastic coffee. read more

My experience is from my first online order. It was truly above and beyond, and I cannot recommend this company enough. I had been eyeballing my first expensive hand grinder for a while and finally decided to pull the trigger. The shipping was unbelievably fast, from Edmonton to my door in Vancouver in almost exactly 24 hours after ordering. They included extra goodies with the grinder, like some beans to help season it, as well as some sample packs of beans to try out. Let's just get straight to the point - they have fantastic coffee. Sure, you can walk into the coffee shop and immediately be pleased by the respectable amount of seating and on trend decor, and the friendliest staff I've come across in any coffee shop. But when you sit down, and take that first sip of freshly in-house roasted pour over coffee... you realize you're actually in heaven. Every muscle in your body relaxes more and more with every soothing sip. It's just so fucking blissful. Absolutely my fave roaster in Edmonton. I didn't know this coffee shop existed up until a few days ago. It's tucked away on a side street somewhat behind Macewan College, next to the Mercury Room which is how i discovered it. Inside is very small with just a few chairs, but still cozy. There was one guy working when I stopped in, he wasn't really that friendly or welcoming which i'm not sure why, but i somehow expected being an independent cafe..but it's not really an issue, just my first impression. I ordered an americano and it had a really interesting nutty flavour that i've never had elsewhere, it was really unique and quite good. Another fine cafe and bean roaster for Edmonton. This one has some real charm. Not too far off the beaten path, the owners have made some real effort to make there cafe feel like home. Open the doors and you are greeted to a warm environment, wooden tables and details. The barista Dave is fantastic as is the other Dave :) Really really good coffee. Ask them for advice and what beans they are using. I've had several flat whites from Rogue that were flavourful, not overly sweet and something you just want to sit down and enjoy. They also have some simple outside seating so this is a great destination Cafe if you are driving or biking in the area. read more
