We called ahead to reserve the side room because we wanted to have a group meeting here. The reservation process was fine. When I arrived, about 15 minutes early, there was a sign posted in front of the room that it was reserved (for us) at 6pm. I ordered food, and the young man at the counter went over to tell the people they had to leave. They were a large group, with two of the giant pizzas, which they had barely started in on. They were MAD. One guy glared at me and growled, "They should have told us!" (Apparently no one in that family reads.) Suddenly I was very nervous, that they might take their irritation out on me. They stayed until exactly 6, although they did leave before we had to ask the restaurant to give them a nudge. So that was my first fifteen minutes at Cataldo's. Not exactly the restaurant's fault, but as I observed the dine-in crowd, it seemed to me there are a lot of people who couldn't read that sign, or would just ignore it if it were posted as if it did not pertain to them. The food is pretty good. Our group had pizza, chicken, calzone, logs, and salads. Everyone was very pleased with the portion sizes, and there were several of us who needed boxes to take home leftovers. I had the 4 piece chicken, which is deep fried. The dark pieces were juicy and delicious, the white pieces were cardboard; they were really overcooked. Next time I'll try the calzone, because my friend said it was really delicious, and it was huge for the price. The place itself is a little divey. Not super clean, and the dings and scratches on the games and tables suggest a certain blind eye to basic maintenance. The employees have worked here for a long time, and they are nice enough, but there can be long periods where there is just no one at the counter. The guy who took my order just walked up to the register, and looked at me. No welcoming words, no "how can I help you." Just looked. As I ordered, though, he was very pleasant and helpful, since I was a first timer. I think this is what you get at a neighborhood place where most customers live nearby and become regulars. Those of us who are not regulars just need to get into their rhythm. At one point, both bathrooms were locked for a long time. Apparently, they are one-holers, so when somebody is in there, you wait. After awhile, you realize that you don't want to go into a bathroom that has been occupied by one person that long. We left before the occupants emerged. read more

Went to the store and bought their Giant Pizza and a Calazone. It took over 1 hour to get them both and I am a Disabled US Military Veteran waiting with my son. The Guy waiting after me was also a Veteran from the US Marines. We talked and came up to the conclusion that the Establishment was less than Professional and the food sub-par. They seemed more concerned about me and my son talking about how bad the neighborhood was and that I was showing cane tricks in a Vacant Lobby where we were waiting for over an hour. There was no staff, no other Customers, and no signs saying I could not be figity after the long wait that I and the other US Veteran were subjected too endure! We both will not be coming back. I spent about $93 USD, and I regret ever coming to this establishment. My suggestion is if you are not from this Area that is noted for being a Low Class Neighborhood and Racist to not frequent this establishment. USED to be my favorite pizza joint years ago, the manager there is on the greedy side a little too much now though. As you can see in the picture posted, there was barely any cheese on my slice (this coming from someone who doesn't care for too much cheese on pizza, neitherless extra cheese) and when we asked for a box to go, he offered foil paper because he "wanted to save a bit of money." I'll stick with the Stockdale location from now on, considering it's less than 5 minutes away from us; not worth the 25 minute drive any longer. read more

Since this is a lengthy review I will start with a brief synopsis: This place sucks. Ordered takeout delivered to a local hotel I was staying at in Bakersfield. Because of a problem with their delivery vehicle wait time was 2 hours. Since my choice was this or walking down the road to Del Taco I decided to opt for a nice Italian dinner. What a mistake. Ordered an antipasto salad and spaghetti. Only took an hour and a half to arrive. Tipped the delivery person and sat down to eat. When I opened the bag with the salad it was a mess. The little plastic containers with dressing were broken open and the inside of the bag was coated with dressing. No care was taken in packing this meal or how it was stored and carried during delivery. Next I opened the bag with the main course. There were two containers in the bag; one with cooked pasta and the other with meat sauce. So here I am in a hotel room trying to toss my own pasta. But the best is yet to come. The meal was delivered with No Utensils!!!! No way to toss the un mixed pasta or even eat it. Called the restaurant and they admitted utensils should have been included and said they would dispatch the delivery driver again. Utensils showed up after another 20 min along with some packets of parmigiana cheese which were also omitted from the original order. No napkins so used a wash cloth from the hotel bathroom. Sat down to eat. Salad was average. Not bad but nothing to write home about. The container of pasta sauce was insufficient to even come close to coating the supplied pasta. Container also contained two meatballs. Meatballs were terrible. Spongy and very little taste. The pasta sauce tasted like a grocery store brand heated in a sauce pan. Pretty much way below average. Of course nothing was hot. I travel extensively and in the time of COVID seek to support local restaurants. That being said COVID is not an excuse for bad food and lousy service. read more

Cataldo's is the best pizza place in Oildale and that's not saying much because there are only like 3 other pizza places in the area. If you like extra greasy pizza, this is the place for you. I personally feel that the sauce and crust don't have much flavor. Cataldo's has giant pizzas that barely fit through the door and are great for parties. The potato wedges are decent and I haven't tried their chicken. Anytime we order from Cataldo's we have never had an unpleasant experience with the employees and we never have to wait long for delivery. read more

I called in from a oil rig about 5 miles away and I was surprised they said they would deliver! Other local chains said they would not deliver with no physical address. I ordered the 30" pizza for me and 3 other guys. We were working a 16 hour day and this pizza hit the spot! We had about 15 slices left by the end of our shift! I've loved Cataldo's pizza for years! What first made me a fan was their great selection of combinations, good price, and generous toppings. But the generosity seems to have diminished over the years. The past few times I've ordered, I've noticed less and less toppings. The wife and I ordered a couple 14" pies on April 3rd, and were VERY disappointed. Total bill, after delivery & tip was just under $50. They, arrived earlier than promised, were hot, smelled GREAT, and tasted good. BUT...when we opened the lid, we noticed the wife's pepperoni pizza had all of about 10 to 15 slices on it. My garlic chicken had about the same number of chicken pieces on it. There was a time, one would need a spatula to move a slice from the box to a plate because the toppings were too heavy, and would fall off. Probably a 50/50 ratio of toppings to the rest. Now, the pizza is 90% crust, 5% cheese & sauce, and 5% toppings. I understand the effects of unreasonable minimum wage on a business' profit margin, and the fight to keep costs down. All the while trying to maintain a healthy kitchen. In this battle, a small business either needs to produce a lesser product, or charge $40 for a medium pizza to keep up quality. Given the current quality of Cataldo's pizza, I believe them to be near their breaking point. I'm all about supporting local businesses, but what was delivered to my door a few days ago, I'm sorry to say, makes this hard to do. I'll be looking for another local pizzeria next time. read more

I'm so disappointed in Cataldo's. This use to be our favorite pizza place. First, I ordered a large pepperoni and Canadian bacon pizza with extra cheese. I received a pepperoni pizza with light cheese. I ordered chicken fingers and they didn't have any so they called and said that the eight piece chicken and wedges cost the same. The different is four dollars. That does not even out. I had a four piece in my cart already and the chicken fingers were $12. They should have refunded me for the chicken fingers and charged me for an eight piece. This place has gone down hill. I really appreciate the communication they used when they called me about the chicken fingers but I do not appreciate them stealing my money. The replacement of chicken for chicken fingers doesn't even out because I had ordered chicken already. They charged me for extra cheese and for two toppings. I didn't get extra cheese. I only got one topping. And they don't deliver to my neighborhood even more so I had to pick it up. read more

Don't go to this pizza restaurant order a pizza and sit in your car because you might have sheriffs knocking on your window! I spent $45 to have the girl inside call the police on me instead of bringing me my food outside because I was sleeping in my car while waiting the 45 minutes for her to bring my food outside! Also they have no problems robbing you for the money that you paid for your food and not giving you your money back for calling the police on you. Cataldo´s is a great pizza shop in the heart of Oildale. Located conveniently near both the downtown area and the manufacturing plants, they always have the pizza you need. Home of the Giant Pizza that hardly fits in your car, let alone your stomach. Obviously, the pizza and calzones are their best dishes and they are always made on order. I come here regularly and have never had a negative experience. The pizza is made and served quickly, giving me just enough time to return to work after my measly 30 minute lunch smh. Order at the bar and sit either in the retro arcade or next to the gigantic televisions. When they bring your food, pile on the endless red pepper and parmesan cheese. Delicious! ENJOY! Bottomless drinks, God Bless America! I will admit that I was wary of venturing into Oildale all by myself. That was all without reason. This place is beyond fine during lunch. The lengths I too would go for excellent Chinese delivery, but I'm betting Cataldo's isn't worth such great feats of scrappiness. Speaking of bets though... I hedged 'em on this location and purchased the Yelp Deal, $10 for $20, mind you, after I called to confirm that I could use this Deal for delivery. Then, denied. Why? One mile past their delivery zone, and only within the other location where there was not a Yelp Deal and wouldn't honor the Deal. One mile. In a driving city. So two delivery radiuses without the consideration of creating a Venn diagram where some may rest within that crossover space, especially a business park with hotels, especially considering someone who has already chosen their business over everyone else, maybe even compromising quality, because of the Yelp Deal. Clearly I didn't eat the pizza. Clearly I didn't take them up on the offer of coming to them for 15% off. Clearly there may be a turf war between the two locations. Clearly, this should be read in an upper crust English accent. I consider myself somewhat of a pizza connoisseur, mainly because I love pizza, and it was absolutely one of the best pizzas I've ever had! I chose the New York City just as it is prepared, and I could not have been more delighted! And, it was ready when I arrived, so I picked up a piping hot pizza! They deliver to Springhill suites by Marriott so my Mom ordered EVERYTHING. Lol she got me a calzone and it was amazing! I was starving and it hit the spot. She got a pepperoni pizza and it was really good too. We had garlic bread and my 7 year old devoured it. When you really need to feed a ton of people and only want one large pizza to do it with then Cataldo's it the place. They feature the largest pizza in Bakersfield with their 30 inch diameter monster. And you're thinking that a uber-large pizza is just a stupid gimmick but they come through on good pizza making. While not the best in town they are more than adequate. They'll make it anyway you order with a good selection of toppings of fair quality. I'm not saying it's farmer fresh but it is not the cardboard tasting ingredients of lesser pizza places. They've also bought out the former Sharky's Pizza, the formerly formerly Shakey's Pizza on Brundage at the end of the 58 in the curiously named Old West Shopping Center. Don't worry though, they still have the ye olde fashion baseball pinball game stocked with baseball cards. Enjoy. read more
