Was about to drive on... But I decided to call and Farmer John was more than accommodating! It's a farm meets vineyard meets winery. Anyways, we called and Farmer John came and opened the gate for our two cars. We came in and parked next to the barn. He gave us the choice of tasting inside or outside - we chose outside. After the 15 minutes he needed to get ready, he rolled out with all the glasses and bottles required for a tasting for 5 adults. Most of the wines are fruit forward but we all really enjoyed that about them. They well blended. John also explained that he's not pressured to put out wines that he doesn't feel meet his standard. This is a passion for him. Great conversations followed. The kids all played around the grounds and even went to go meet the farm animals! We all bought 2 bottles (or more) each to cover our tasting. It was great enjoying this time and the conversations surrounded by green grass and a wonderful farm setting. Definitely will be coming back!

The front doors are practically majestic. No appointment necessary, but there is not an actual tasting room, so they do not do tastings in house. All are welcome to peruse the wine list (see pic) & purchase bottles for home. Prices are beyond reasonable; $9 or 10 bucks a bottle, w the most expensive being $16. $120 is the average for a case, & if you buy a case there is a 10% discount. The Cabernet & the Pinot Noir have the largest following, & it is the Pinot Noir that is my personal choice. California is blessed w grapes, & we are lucky to have such easy access to so many quality wines. Unlike the majority of the country (& the world for that matter), we're part of that privileged few that have the luxury of drinking locally, instead of having to fly or order our wine from great & far. We had a very pleasurable visit to this winery and tasting room. A bit remote it is worth the time…read moreto visit. The grounds, buildings and tasting room are beautiful, a sophisticated rustic cabin appeal with manicured landscaping and a craftsman style main building. We stood at the main tasting bar to try four wines. The Chardonnay and especially fhe old vine Zinfandel stood out as excellent to us and we ended up getting some bottles. As there weren't many folks doing a tasting on a weekday we got VIP treatment and had a deljghtful conversation, and education about the wines, from the person pouring for us. We really enjoyed our stay and the surroundings made it extra nice. Compared to the hype of Napa and Sonoma this winery and others in the Lodi area are down to earth and affordable in comparison, especially for tastings. This place very much is worth a visit. Sitting outside to sip a bottle must be delightful too.

Three varieties were available for sampling at the show, a Red Duet, Syrah and a Petite Sirah. The Red Duet, a 50-50 blend of Cabernet and Syrah, was my personal favorite with a very nice aroma, smooth texture and an equally smooth taste. Mr. John Monnich , the founder of Silkwood Wines was very helpful in explaining the qualities of his award winning wines exuberantly informing us that his Syrah is the ONLY western wine served on Japan Airlines. Woman owned, plenty of seating, quite the selection of board games to play while hanging out. The beer selection, I have not seen one that extensive in a while, including ones brewed in-house!!! And affordable pricing as well! And they sell pizza (looked and smelled incredible, but I did purchase any when I went since I was still full from dinner). They have live music sometimes with a clever indoor/outdoor stage, which is also a perk. It was a very cozy, comfortable, and safe vibe going there, especially since I was there enjoying my drinks solo. The staff were very friendly despite the crowd and long line, happy to explain their "on tap" selections with only one offering being unavailable that evening. I had a Nitro Stout and then later a Cherry Cheesecake Pie Hard Seltzer, both brewed by them, and both were delicious. The hard seltzer did have all those flavor notes and it wasn't overly chemical sweetened, which I greatly appreciated. And I was so happy to see a darker beer option on their menu as the current trends tend to heavily favor the IPA's.
