I first went to catalyst a year ago for a hamstring injury and it was amazing. Their treatment included PT assessments, targeted exercise for strengthening and healing and massage and cupping. I recovered and the injury has not come back I'm currently there for a shoulder impingement and the assessment was excellent with Sophia. She knew exactly what I needed, and she will be helping me with strengthening my scapular traps and helping me to relearn my swimming stroke so that I will not injure myself in the future. I will be using more of my back muscles and less of my shoulder muscles. She gave me four very helpful exercises that I'm going to do until my next appointment. She also did some targeted massage on my pics and I'm very hopeful that I will recover quickly and be able to get back to my ocean swimming. read more

I came to Catalyst for quad tendinitis and saw Jon. It was a slow healing process. In part because my pain made me too tired to do the at-home exercises all the time. It had been maybe a month in a half and I didn't think I was going to get better and maybe PT just wasn't working for me. Since I wasn't doing all exercises regularly, I decided to be diligent about them and if I didn't see an improvement I was going to stop PT and find another healing modality. What do you know after doing the exercises diligently I saw an improvement and graduated PT! A couple of things to note. I'm hyper mobile and I also had hip, groin, shoulder, mid back & neck pain. I hurt all over. While we worked on my quad Jon would also give me stretches and bodywork for the other areas. All areas were either healed or significantly improved. I was living in constant pain and dealing with some of the issues for years and for the most part it's gone! These guys are great! I came in with a chronic knee issue that left me worried about the long term. I mainly worked with Jon, but had some experience with other PTs as well. My family and I have been coming here for various injuries and everyone has been wonderful. I've been working with Jon for my knee and for the first time in several years, I am jumping and running again! I still have a ways to go before I can return to volleyball, but this is the most progress I've had and am feeling optimistic I can reach my goal. Before Catalyst, I couldn't do lunges without pain or jog after my dog's tennis ball without my knee swelling up the next day. I find the way Catalyst runs their program to be very effective. I start off in the cage stretching, then I do my exercises, and lastly (this is my favorite part) I get soft tissue work which includes deep tissue massage! The entire Catalyst staff are really friendly and the Point Loma location is a great spot. It's located at the Barnes Tennis Center with lots of parking and Catalyst has an indoor gym and outdoor space. It's nice to spend time outdoors under the canopy getting soft tissue work or breaking a sweat doing my exercises. We really enjoy coming to this location! I started seeing Jonathan about a month ago for knee pain. After my first week of treatment and muscle activation exercises, my pain had greatly been reduced. I am still going to catalyst and working with Jonathan, and feel that I have made great progress. The Point Loma branch has an outdoor setup that makes rehab workouts fun. The gym is very clean and there is always lots of parking available. 11/10 would recommend for your physical therapy needs. read more

I can't say enough good things about Catalyst PT, its providers, and staff. Unfortunately I had to rehab my third sports injury with them in seven years, this time a shoulder. Jon was my PT and he was fantastic. He was thorough and detail oriented in his assessment and treatment plan. He was also flexible with the rehab plan and able to pivot when the MRI results revealed an injury to a different part of my shoulder we weren't anticipating. I went to Catalyst for Physical Therapy on my right knee which I received a cortisone shot a few weeks prior due to swelling and had been dealing with lingering pain and discomfort. Working with Jon, we managed to work on the areas that were causing the discomfort, strengthen the areas that were weak and I have been pain free for the first time in a very very long time. I'm a pretty injury-prone person, so I've seen my fair share of physical therapists. By far, Catalyst and Jonathan have been the best! I went for a few months due to a shoulder injury from a snowboard accident and they really take their time to listen to what's going on and adjust as needed. Both facilities are great, but I preferred Barnes since it's outdoors and I didn't have to wear a face mask during my session. I came to Catalyst's Barnes location after I fractured my shoulder in an accident and started working with Jon immediately. We started with an analysis of my mobility, pain, and strength then set a plan from there. Going from not being able to raise my arm to 90° and with excruciating pain to getting back into sports and my normal day-to-day activities without discomfort is a testament to Jon and the Barnes team. He is always straight up on my recovery process and makes sure that my personal goals are kept top of mind--we've even started doing sport-specific strengthening exercises! I worked with Jon at Catalyst for over three months on knee pain. The setting is more gym-like and less medical office- like, which I liked. Jon was very thorough and patient. My knee would feel better and relapse several times over the months, but he was always very encouraging. I started coming to Catalyst in October for knee pain that started after a long backpacking trip. During my first visit, Jon and the team performed various tests to determine what exactly might be causing the pain. Everyone was very personable and it did not feel like a typical doctors visit. My 14 year old daughter had strained a hamstring a few weeks prior in soccer game . She was clearly getting frustrated by slowness of the healing as well as uncertainty of when she would be able to exert Herself again without risk of re-injuring. So was good timing that we saw their pop up outside the Wave soccer game. Lyndsey worked with my daughter for few minutes doing evaluation. Based on that we scheduled a formal appointment where Lyndsey put her thru series of tests and pulled together list of exercises for her to strengthen hamstring. I had hurt my shoulder and these guys fixed me up so I have no pain. Honestly, the vibe of the place is great, and that kept me going weekly. It's also really nice to have some of my sessions outdoors! The receptionists are super friendly. Had a rotator cuff injury that I was certain would require surgery to fully get use of that shoulder again. I went to my doctor and she recommended going to Catalyst Physical Therapy & Wellness. Everything about Catalyst is first rate from the front desk, to the equipment, and especially to the quality of Physical Therapists. Originally I started my treatment at the Mission Valley location, which is really great, however I moved over to the Point Loma location when I found that I could be treated outdoors there. Hey we live in San Diego, why be indoors when we can be outdoors? My therapist is Jonathan and I am a little over halfway through my treatment and the improvement is incredible. When we started, almost every movement I made with my left shoulder was really painful, plus I was really restricted with movement above my head as well as movement from my left side. The restrictions are now gone. When we started I couldn't sleep on my left side, and now I can- with zero pain. Catalyst Physical Therapy is terrific in so many ways. I started PT at the Mission Valley location in 2021, then I traveled for a couple of months. While out of town I practiced the new way of walking Jon had shown me after only a few sessions. I could already see improvements in daily walks. After returning I realized how the assistants working with the PT therapists made the entire operation run smoothly and function efficiently for clients ... even while Covid protocols were in place for everyone! I'd been to other PT organizations in San Diego, but Catalyst is clearly the best. The facilities are first rate, as well as the therapists and assistants who are knowledgeable, patient, and generous. I love the Barnes Center location of Catalyst! It's cooler, outdoors, and has everything I need for PT including the ever-wonderful, always helpful, Jon Fong. I've been in PT for many years for hip, knee, back, and shoulder pain/injuries, but Catalyst is the only PT I'll go to.
