I eat there on a Saturday around 2 PM so it wasn't too crowded, I took one of the outdoor tables. Servers were very attentive. They even offered caviar and champagne before the dinner but I declaimed. Then they brought olive oil and bread which was really good, I picked one after pasta dishes and it was delicious. Northern tables are little bit close to a coffee shop so a lot of people were waiting around tables which kind of bothered me but southern tables are more available. Wonderful meal in the middle of bustling downtown! Top notch crab cakes full of tender shredded crab inside a crackly crust! Delectable sand dabs! Super rose-flavored baklava with so many flaky layers. We had very pleasant service and even got to chat a bit with the owner. Unfortunately I will say the salmon my mom ordered was not the best. It tasted a bit fishy/off, was over-charred in places, and lacked a certain pizzazz. The sauce also was missing a flavor note, and the rice was bland. Service was okay. However, our food was honestly less than great. We ordered the fried calamari, clam chowder, and then my husband and I each got an entree. Unfortunately had the worst experience here the other day. My mom and I ordered wine and lunch to celebrate my birthday and both of our meals were horrible. Her pasta tasted stale and was inedible. The spinach that came with my meal was extremely dry and had no seasoning. The potatoes were also very cold. We both had stomach aches after even though we only ate about a quarter of our food. Executive Summary: DO NOT ORDER LOBSTER SANDWICH! At most 10% lobster not worth the price. My wife and I were looking for a nice meal in Carmel and Catch had 4.5/5 rating. We were able to get reservations same day. After reading the reviews we decided to go try Catch. After all where else do you get caviar and champagne as a free small taste before your meal. Now to reality. Due to Covid-19 they were nicely set up for outdoor dining. Unfortunately the dining area off the street was at an incline, and so were our tables and chairs. The staff was friendly and masked. The aforementioned complimentary caviar and champagne never arrived. We thought that perhaps that was to celebrate the restaurants opening and perhaps was an old review. We ordered our own champagne and cups of clam chowder which was hot and tasty. They had given us a single piece of bread each and some olive oil and basaltic vinegar. I had asked our waiter for another piece of bread but it never materialized. My wife and I love lobster and saw they had an "open faced lobster sandwich. The exact menu description is: Open Face Lobster Sandwich Lobster, garlic aioli and julienne vegetables over toasted brioche. Served with arugula salad $23.95 What we got was half of a well-toasted French roll about 8 inches long covered to a depth of 3/4 inch with a mixture of 70% shredded carrot, 20% shredded cucumber and at most 10% lobster meat all mixed together with maybe a teaspoon of aioli at most. If I would have gathered all the tiny bits of lobster up there would have been less volume than your thumb. There was nothing other than this on top of the toasted roll. The Arugala salad was fine. Then, to top everything off we got to see another waiter bring another table the free caviar and champagne. read more

It's always nice to be in Carmel by the sea and what added the cherry on the top is the meal I had at the Catch. The place is open for biz during COVID and doing great job in keeping social distancing in place with all other necessary requirements such as sanitizer... We went to check these guys out and it was wonderful! Got a reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday night. We got there and were seated at the best table in the house looking out the window on to Ocean Ave. they gave us complimentary caviar and champagne, it was great. I had a hibiscus gimlet and it was just right! For dinner hubby got the lobster risotto and I got a combo fried goodie plate. The risotto was amazing we actually couldn't finish either plate. Wait staff we great and very attentive. Oh oh I almost forgot dessert.... Baklava to go and it didn't make it home, I would go back just for that. I'm giving five stars, but we spent a little more than we wanted. But I would definitely recommend this place and I will be eating there again!! Really enjoyed my dinner at catch recently. Despite covid it hasn't stopped the surrounding restaurants from having 1+ hour waits, and catch was no exception, although we went here because we were choosing between porta Bella and here, but came here because the wait was 45 minutes instead of an hour an a half, enough time to walk around the little downtown, go back to sit down a bit at the hotel lobby and come back after we were paged. Our server was great and the risotto I ordered was ridiculously filling. We ordered the prawn and another seafood appetizer with the word steak I can't recall at the moment that was delicious. This was a terrible dining experience. Our waiter was completely inexperienced, which would have been fine had he shown an ounce of personality or effort. From the start he forgot to put our drink order in which should've have clued us in that he forgot to enter our entire order. Drinks arrived 20 minutes late, he forgot the appetizers then brought the wrong ones. One hour and 12 minutes after ordering we still hadn't received our entrees and that was the point we got up to leave. 72 minutes and we had received one round of drinks and two awful clam chowder soups. And the real issue was how this waiter went out of his way to avoid our table. There was no communication that out food was running late. He would actually walk fast past our table and avoid all eye contact. I think his manager finally made him come talk to us and tell us our orders were next but at that point we were done. Nothing could've saved this miserable experience. They did offer to comp our whole meal but we declined. After waiting 72 minutes for overpriced seafood we had lost our appetites. I understand that good service is hard to find but that poor guy needs a little more training or a pep talk on how to face customers. read more

This place had the warmest service. They welcome you in with champagne- our party doesn't drink so we declined it. The restaurant itself has a date-like ambiance. We ordered shrimp/crab ravioli, cheese bread, fish and chips, and caesar salad. While the presentation itself was nice, the food was bland. For my pasta dish- it needed salt and some garlic. There was barely any crab meat- literally like a small piece. That's misleading. Could have added parmesan and I was expecting the sauce to be more creamy. It's the same review as mine and I wish I'd done a little homework before rushing here to eat. They literally have all the perfect things for a high quality restaurant (if only the main courses were better) great service, kids menu, cocktails, fantastic mussels and clams appetizer. However the fish and chips wasn't properly seasoned (note it's not beer batter either- the batter is lighter which could have been good if better seasoned), though the fish was fresh. Do not get the spaghetti and meatballs. It was $16 for a plate of slightly over cooked pasta with a decent (but nothing to write home about) sauce and the meatballs tasted 1000% like Costco frozen meatballs which I love to eat but...not for $16 a plate. Another big win for Faisal and company. We're often hesitant to try new restaurants until they've been open a few months to work out the kinks, but once we heard that this was run by the Demetra/Portabella crew we knew we had to try it. Glad we did. What these guys get right at all of their restaurants is customer experience, and very good food. They treat everyone like regulars from the moment you walk in. There's always a nice greeting from whomever is at the door, and then as you walk to your table there are hearty handshakes and sometimes even hugs. Throughout the meal, staff and management stop by every table to check on whether you're happy and to thank you for coming in. Of course, it's a restaurant and they have to back that up with good food, and they definitely do that. First, every table is provided with a small glass of bubbly and some caviar! The menu has a middle-eastern bent, but with a focus on seafood. I started with a very good clam chowder. My wife had the Lobster Risotto and loved it. I had the Shrimp Tikka Masala and really loved the balance of flavors. We were too full to order dessert, but as they do at their other places, two small portions of Baklava came with the check. The atmosphere is more refined and romantic than the raucous Dametra, but there is still the occasional live guitar and singing strolling through the restaurant. read more
