Can't recommend this company enough, and I'm unsure why anyone would give them bad reviews! My daughter wanted pasta for her birthday- so we needed to make that happen. We ordered the pasta station and espresso station along with two workers. I'll start by saying that I'm not the biggest fan of Italian food, but the food was DELICIOUS! The homemade salad dressing, people were taking seconds and thirds of salad. The pasta station had so many good and extravagant options (sundried tomatoes, grilled eggplant, artichokes). The kids wanted plain pasta with cheese- they got that too! Espresso station had SO MANY options of flavors and drinks, again, I saw people go back 3-4 times for more. Catering At Your Door catered my wedding last month. To make a long story short, we initially met with Dave Model early in the wedding planning process to taste his food and see if we wanted to hire him. The food he gave us was INCREDIBLE. Homemade veggie burgers, meat burgers, mac and cheese that was to die for, potato salad...all hand made! We were so excited to have found our perfect wedding food! The price was great and Dave was nice to work with. Fast forward to our wedding day. After the ceremony, my husband and I walked to the food line (we had a buffet style) and were shocked at what we saw: NOTHING was the same as it was when we tried the food months back. The burgers were all CLEARLY pre-frozen patties that came from a store. The meat ones looked like Bubba Burgers and the veggie ones looked like Dr. Praeger's. The mac and cheese was 100%, absolutely Kraft mac and cheese that comes in the blue box. It was neon orange in color and the little tiny sticks of pasta you can only get from that blue box. The next day my husband told me that he saw the grillers (the chefs that were grilling the food) using Jenny O pre-made patties and throwing them on the grill. NOT WHAT WE PAID FOR. We let it slide and enjoyed our wedding and had an amazing time. After our honeymoon I called Dave to explain to him the problem we had. I could tell I caught him off guard with this and he sounded like he was trying to find the "right lie" as he was fumbling over his words. He tried to tell me that he hand made all the patties and that everything was home made. LIE. He told me that the food at a tasting is never the same as the actual day of. LIE. He also tried to justify what he did by giving me excuses like "well everyone got there on time, didn't they?" and "I mean, you had food there and everyone ate, right?" Seriously? I didn't hire someone to cater my wedding to provide food that I could have made myself. I hired him because when we tasted the food it was some of the best burgers and sides my husband and I had ever had! This situation really bothered us but what bothered us more was the way Dave handled it when we spoke on the phone. He acted like he had no idea what was going on since he wasn't there that day, he tried to play it off like it was no big deal and tried to make me feel bad for having an issue with the service. Poor customer service. I would not recommend using Catering At Your Door for any occasion especially one that is extremely important to you and your family. read more

My email to Mr. Dave Model expressing my dissatisfaction with his services. Regarding your services for my daughter's 18th Birthday Party on May 16, 2015: 1. It was my understanding you would send at least 2 "chefs" to cater our event of approximately 65-70 people. To my surprise, only one person showed up. He was very nice, did his best, but he was overwhelmed. However, I did not appreciate the 1 chef you sent over to cater our event asked one of my guest and good friend (Tabitha) to help him, not once, but 4 times. Asking random guest to help for what you are being paid to do is UNACCEPTABLE. I was extremely embarrassed when my friend told me about it the following day, but her being the sweetheart that she is, she helped him anyways. Furthermore, because he did not have any help it took him a little longer to set up, that delayed the food being warmed up and consequently dinner started approx 30 minutes after the scheduled time. 2. I was informed I needed to provide to long tables for the buffet set up, which I did. I had a 3rd table for drinks, chips and other items I was going to display but your chef said he needed all 3. I wish I would have been informed of this and I could have ordered another table. We had to do some re-arranging and I was unable to display items on the table I planned to do so. 3. The food was horrible. I don't understand how you can go wrong with a fajita buffet. The beef was gross with fatty pieces of meat. The chicken was somewhat more edible. - For some reason the meats were cooked separately from the fajita veggies. I have never seen that done like that and it did not look like fajitas. Your chef displayed the fajita veggies (bell peppers) in a bowl COLD next to the sour cream and salsa. Last I checked fajitas and veggies go well together when cooked together and served warm. - The rice looked terrible; it was like Rice-A-Roni (from a box) nobody touched it that is how bad it looked. - The beans were straight out of a can, served in a bowl, COLD. Again nobody touched them. Luckily I ordered 8 dozens of chicken and beef empanadas as appetizers from another vendor and they were delicious. The empanadas and cake really saved the night! 4. The cleanup started around 8:30-9 and again it was just horrible, a complete mess. Your chef decided it was a good idea to carry trays of hot water across the dance floor (WERE PEOPLE ARE DANCING!!!) and into the kitchen area. He spilled water on the dance floor, which my sister saw because her table was nearby and she cleaned it up before anyone slipped and fell. Your chef then entered the kitchen area where my husband I were at, he almost spilled the hot water on my husband (he was rushing because the tray was hot and his hands were burning) he dropped the tray on the floor right before bumping into my husband and spilled hot water on his hands arms, we immediately tried to help because we knew he was hurt. Your chef said he was okay and picked up the tray off the floor and poured the rest of the water in the sink. Of course we were left with the mess on the floor and had to clean it up. I would like to bring to your attention how dangerous the water spills could be, I work at a firm who represents people for slip and falls and this could have gone really bad had I and my sister not seen the spills and cleaned it up before someone slipped and fell. Gross negligence and 100% third party liability would have been placed on Catering at Your Door. In the future keep that in mind. 5. In the end I had so much food left over because nobody liked the food; it was bland and just horrible. I sent everything back with the chef and except for the chicken and beef which I kept and gave to the dogs. This is the experience and service your company provided. I am nobody to tell you how to run your business, but I will tell you if you treat all your customers the way you treated my event, you will NOT be in business very long. From the minute I started talking with Dave, I KNEW this was our catering company. Their catering services are awesome. They do a great job in setting up, believe it or not some caterers just drop off the food and ask you to sign the invoice, but not them. Called about a crepe station at my home for a brunch for 40 people. Call back was from a very ungracious person who seemed impatient about answering my questions. We did have a specific need for crepes without cheese due to a severe allergy the guest of honor has. Each option he gave was for a crepe with cheese! I found Catering at your door online while searching for a caterer for my daughters formal evening wedding. The website looked good and the prices were right for our budget.I first spoke to Dave Modell and he put my mind at ease that he could cater our wedding for the prices we were looking for. We had a different issue that was challenging. We were expecting 185 guests and we were going to have the ceremony in the same room as the reception with a cocktail hour in between. The plan was to have the guests move into the courtyard after the ceremony where there would be open bar and appetizers to keep them happy while the catering staff was turning the room into the reception room and the family was taking pictures. My daughter had also hired a wedding coordinator for the day and she and her 4 people would be helping with this. We had our tasting with Dave and enjoyed most of the food. We tweaked a few things but liked the taste of the meats (tri tip and chicken provencial) We also tasted the garlic mashed potatoes and 2 salads. I thought it was kind of strange that he wanted to meet me in a restaurant and he basically handed me the food in to-go containers. He said he rented kitchens out when he had a job. Didn't really know if he made that food or if he ordered it? We proceeded forward and entered into the contract with him to cater our wedding.We had 10 months. I called Dave several times with various questions over the course of the 10 months. At the beginning he seemed to be at ese with my requests regarding color choices and set up etc. We met with him for a walk-through in Dec. Wedding was in Feb. It was then that he let me know that he couldn't serve alcohol or even open corks on Champagne bottles? The first id heard of this and was quite a surprise. We had to improvise our plan on that. It would have been nice to know that sooner. In looking at the room he let me know that he would need 3 additional staff members to help turn the room around. This would be an additional cost. Then after additional phone calls he let me know there would be an additional cost of pick up all his equipt. and tableclothes, flatware and silverware the same night as the wedding. That was upsetting too. As it grew closer to the wedding date he seemed scattered and unorganized and he always seemed in a rush to get off the phone. He even told me then that our wedding was the most detailed and difficult wedding he had ever done. He seemed irritated with each phone call and almost uncooporative. Definitely different than when we first talked. I felt a bit insecure that I had hired him and was very nervous that he wouldn't come through. My daughter also had a few conversations with him in which he kept asking for the layout of the tables in the room and the color of the linens. All of which had been sent to him previously via emails. He seemed to be frazzled by our requests and even asked to have the silverware wrapped up in the cloth napkins and sitting at the buffet for the guests to get themselves. At a formal wedding? My daughter said no to that and it became awkward. I asked for an additional sweetheart table tablecloth which I was charged for and did not receive because Dave forgot to order it. We improvised with a regular tablecloth doubled over. Not ok Dave. On to the food...The appetizer table was nice and everything was there. Dave did throw in some spanikopita which we did not ask for. He did not charge us for it. The chafing dishes were nice but he spread out a hidious plastic tablecloth under the chafing dishes that looked like it was for a picnic. Not for a formal wedding. He did provide chicken on the side for the pasta alfredo.Dont know if that was a mistake or on purpose. The tri tip was medium rare which we asked for and was tasty. The chicken provencial was very dry and there was no cream sauce. The vegetables that went on top of it were good and there was a tomatoey type sauce, not what we asked for but tasted good. The garlic mashed potatoes were horrible, like glue, and tasted like instant mashed potatoes...yuck. The salads were ok,nothing special. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They stayed very late till everything was loaded onto the truck and the kitchen was clean. They boxed up much of our left over food. Dave on the other hand took off right after the meal was served and didn't even say goodbye or tell us he was leaving. I thought that was weird. It's been almost a week and I havent heard a word from him. Many of the guests said the food was delicious and went back for seconds. So I guess that says something. Overall, I will say there was bad and good points to the food, service and display of Catering at Your Door. I don't have a lot of experience hiring a caterer but I feel like customer service is so important and at points in time it just wasn't there, and at times it was. This was the worst and most embarrassing meal that I have ever had catered for an event. 1. Appetizers were not enough to feed 100 people. The majority of the guest were unable to sample the appetizers 2. Appetizers were cold and kabobs dried out. I believe this is due to all food being prepared prior to event and arriving with the food at 2:00. Food was not going to be served until 4:30. 3. Salmon baguette was soggy from being prepared ahead of time, wrapped in plastic, transferred in a hot car and sitting at room temperature 4. When asked about tea, Chef informed me that I did not pay for tea. When I showed her my email and she checked the contract she sent someone to purchase jugs of Arizona Tea from Ralphs. They ran out of tea before we even served the meal 5. Chicken was overcooked and dried out. Most of the chicken could not be eaten 6. Halibut was very dry and had a funny odor 7. Desserts were store purchased and not in line with what I ordered. Received 2 cheesecakes with fruit toppings, 2 key lime pies, one assorted chocolate cheesecake. There were pastries and carrot/zucchini bread which was not on the list to be ordered. You can tell corners were cut. My only thought is that this was done to maintain a higher financial cut for the company. The majority of the guest had to throw their entire plate in the trash due to the quality of the food. The staff left two pans of fish in the kitchen oven which was not discovered the next day due to the smell. I had numerous individuals requesting refund of the $50.00 they paid for their meal. The chef could not understand the majority of the things I was asking and the assistant kept putting everything on her when I had questions. read more
