Worst meal called soulfood I've ever eaten! Collard greens were so salty we couldn't eat them. Never went to a restaurant with Kool Aid on the menu! Place was seedy looking, no signage saying Catfish Cafe. Service slow, unconcerned and unprofessional. Dessert was served on a plate with a plastic fork! ( who does this?) I only gave them 1 star because they wouldn't let me leave them none. Th fish was the only thing that was edible. OMG this place is soooooooo delish. I have only gotten the jerk turkey burger because I am addicted. It is so good. Bomb Collards and the MacnCheese is on point. Best cornbread I have ever had. And the prices are amazing. Friendly service on the phone (I only order delivery) but I will be attending the fight party next weekend so I will be trying something different then! Highly recommend. Horrible customer service. Did not get to sample the food. I brought the "$20 Groupon for carryout only". I went to Catfish Café on a Friday. I presented by Groupon and was immediately told in order to use my Groupon I will have to buy $30 dollars worth of food. She showed me a sign on the counter. I told the lady Groupon deal does not have such a rule printed on it. She said it does not matter what the Groupon deal said this is what her management want. Boy has this place gone down hill!! I used to love the food there. But the past few times I've noticed a decline. This past weekend I had mac n cheese, fried catfish and candies yams. The yams were ok, the catfish had that "ammonia" like taste to it. But the mac and cheese has gone completely down hill. Number one it was extremely salty!! I was sooooo, disappointed with this place I ordered take out. picked it up got home my husband started to eat the Fried Chicken was so BADLY DRIED out no tastes, I ordered Pork Chops OMG, they were so TOUGH a streak knife had a hard time cutting it, the side dishes were Collard Greens they had no taste, the Bake Mac and Cheese, was scrapped from the bottom of the pan. so I called them and report the BAD FOOD, the women told me they were putting it in a book for 2 FREE DINNERS, I spent a lot of money on that dinner and ended up having to cook something else for my husband and I. This is by far the most out of custom, unprofessional place I've seen. When it comes to delivery and service they are by far the worse. The girls that work there have no type of moral or education, they hung up on us several times and did not want to pass the manager. They do not stick by what they advertise. If you try to order online they will tell you that its not the price, then why advertise a different price online and then give a higher one on the phone. I will never try to order from here again and i think you shouldn't either unless you want to lose your appetite. read more

If I could give them 0 stars it would be too many! Very unprofessional! First off, I call for delivery and the woman on the other line answers "Hello, restaurant how can I help you?" I'm thinking...ok what restaurant...did I call the right place? Ok whatever. Then she asks me to hold so I say okay and she puts me on hold...FOR 5 MINUTES!! She then clicks back over to my line and says "I'm sorry, can you hold for a few more minutes?" Stupidly I say yes and she clicks back for another 3-4 minutes. Then she finally clicks back to me and says hello to which I respond the same "Hello" and then she hangs up!! So I call back because I REALLY wanted to order the chicken and waffles! Lol When I call back, the same woman answers the phone and I said "hi, I was just on the phone with you and you asked me to hold but when u clicked back and said hello, you hung up. (In my nicest voice ever) Do you know this woman responded with "I didn't say hello to anyone, anyway what do you want?" I couldn't even respond to the ignorance and unprofessionalism so instead of even continuing the concert, i just hung up the phone... Everything I eat was absolutely too salty or sweet. I am a salt freak who adds salt to almost everything I eat, but the greens and mac & cheese had no flavor other than salt. I decided to visit this restaurant because of the Groupon offered for take-out food. The deal was $15 for $20 food. First of all I was confused when I arrived because the awning "Soul Food" not Catfish Cafe. I had to check the address to make sure I was at the right place. It is a hole in the wall restaurant but I did not mind because I was getting take out. Three people was in the lobby and all three of us had Groupons. The lady taking the orders told us we had to order at least $30 worth of food since we were using Groupons. One contested the new rule because it was not a stipulation on the Groupon. The lady said she was only doing what her manager told her to do. She was courteous but clueless! I only wanted two entrees that totaled $24 but I had to end up ordering a 3rd entree, to my dismay. She then told me my credit card did not work and asked do I want to use a debit card. I checked my credit card online and I had $120 available. Obviously they did not want to be charged credit card fees. After waiting a long 20 minutes my food arrived. Honestly the food was delicious but my husband only had one catfish piece while I ordered a whiting entree and had 4 pieces. His meal cost $2 more than mine! All in all, I will NOT go back due to poor, slow service and small food portions for the price considering the neighborhood. I'll get to the food later, however, the service sucks! I have no idea where the waitresses come from but everytime I go there, it's someone different. They are the stereotypical waitresses, all with attitudes, and totally unprofessional. I ate there about 10 times and only experienced one with qualities of a real waitress. I won't even embarrass the place anymore by telling my personal experience with them. I always bring my own drinks there because there is no coffee or soda, or other drinks except cool-aid (yes, COOL-AID), ice tea, and water. Cool-aid, as expected too sweet and ice tea taste old. Its so sad when a restaurant has A+ food and you still can't give it 5 stars. Although the place has a lot to be desired, the food here is friggin awesome! seasoned well, good portions, and extremely tasty. I had a shrimp and fish combo, mac cheese and greens. Dee-lish! My aunt had the turkey wings and potato salad and said it was really good too. The prices are very fair as well. In their defense I arrived pretty late (around 10:15 PM) on a whim. I have previously had their food via delivery and thought it was ok but when I stopped in to the physical location to make an order I was ....less than impressed. There were a bunch of men just hanging out both inside and directly in front of the restaurant. I was a bit nervous being a lone woman and seeing so many ppl just loitering all over the place and it seemed to be the norm. With a brave NY heart I decided to just go on in. The person taking orders cared zero about CUSTOMER SERVICE. She didn't smile or seem to care that I was there at all. After making my order, I started really taking stock of the place and let me tell you, IT IS A DUMP!... Advice: Don't take your date there EVER!...your welcome. Waited forever in this sketchy location with men hanging out inside the establishment and after all of that, the chicken had no flavor and the fries were soggy and cold. Groupon alert: Catfish Cafe limits what entrees you can order from the menu when using the Groupon. Don't bother going there for seafood platter or any entrees that includes shrimp!! I purchased the Groupon for $34 that included 4 entrees and 2 desserts... There were no restrictions or limitations listed on the Groupon!! But apparently Catfish Cafe makes up their own rules which is both misleading and fraudulent. You don't find out until you get there that only a few entrees are available when using Groupon. Of course, there were no managers on site to address my concerns... Just a timid waitress that stated she was following the restaurant policies. I did not appreciate coming out for dinner with my family under false pretenses... That's a bad way to do business!! I greatly appreciate Groupon's refund policy... Brought off groupon the 4 dinners and 2 desserts. I thought it would be a actual restaurant, this more like a take out place with seats. The waiters aren't actually real waiters due to the fact this isn't even a real restaurant. I had to keep getting up and go to the front to tell them what I wanted. Usually waiters come and check on you but here not one time. As our food came my sister found a ant crawling in her plate. At that moment I just wanted to leave but everything was paid for and out food was all here. I got fried chicken collard greens and yams the sides were reallly good but the chicken was dry. Never really got seriously into Catfish, but this place has converted me. The catfish was AMAZING. as was the mac and cheese, yams and collard greens. The girl on the phone wasn't very articulate and wasn't elaborative on any of the questions asked, but did rightful recommend the catfish. The portions were pretty decent as well, as I will be eating the remainder tomorrow. I have purchased the smothered chicken twice, the last time it tasted like it was fried 2 weeks prior although freshly smothered. The chicken was hard, tough and tasteless. The Catfish was okay after dumping a mound of salt on top of it. The whiting fish was tasteless and over-breaded. Grits and string beans were just okay. This a good place to take food out not to sit and enjoy the meal. There was only one waitress and she was doing everything clean taking phone orders and running a taxi service at the same time. Food was good, the inside is very old and dated. It became a hangout spot for the workers that was there I saw why me and my husband were the only people there on a Saturday night. Ordered my meal at 5pm it is now 7:55pm ( eastern time ) and it is still not here. I ordered for me and the Wife via Grub Hub as I had passed by the place one day recently and was determined to see if the food was good. I was not disappointed. I ordered 2 Fried Whiting Entree's, with Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens. The Whiting was perfectly cooked, flavorful. The Mac & Cheese was delicious, and the Collard Greens tasted like Grandma's, and they were definitely scratch made, not Greens from a can. Several people mentioned delivery issues, but I didn't have that experience. I ordered around 12:40pm, was told my order would arrive between 1:25 and 1:30pm, delivery man arrived 1:24pm , and the food was hot. Will definitely be returning to tryy some other dishes as well.
