WHITING DINNER W/ YAMS AND MAC-N-CHEESE
    CoCo L.

I ordered the whiting dinner and red velvet cake through UberEats delivery and was very happy with my food. My fish had a really nice, flaky and even batter -- was seasoned nicely too. I picked yams and mac-n-cheese as my sides. I loved my yams, and my mac-n-cheese was good -- simple, but good. My girlfriend and I are a little tight-assed about our food and we both enjoyed our meal. I wouldn't order the potato salad again -- it was watery and lacked flavor. I didn't enjoy the greens either. I love the menu-- they even have turkey wings!! I'll definitely re-order. I got $15 off of my UberEats delivery order using the code: eats-h4pu2kqhue

    Grilled shrimp meal

This spot has a bunch of different names; everything from Catfish cafe (yelp) to Seafood Delite (living social and yelp) to just plain ol' Restaurant (menu). The interior of the restaurant is like what other Yelpers mentioned, they are in dire need of an update. This place looks rough! I placed an order for grilled shrimp with string beans and collard greens. The total came to $16! I asked the cashier how many shrimp came with the meal, I was told 10. I was thinking they better be huge lol After 30 minutes of waiting (btw they weren't even crowded) I received my food and found a table in their dine in area towards the back. My food was scarce for the amount I paid. I legit left there still hungry. The shrimp I received were, at the most, large before even being cooked! The portion was disappointing and the prices didnt coincide at all. I could have gotten better quality seafood from Pathmark. I won't be returning.

I came here with a groupon and it was a pure disappointment from start to finish. The interior wasn't nice by any means but I was willing to look past that if the food was good, but it wasn't. There is a there weird nautical theme going on in the restaurant, or more like random paddles and anchors hanging on the wall. There's also a huge dirty window AC hanging right above our table with wires and switches right by our table. The restaurant was pretty loud but I let that slide since a lot of people where just socializing in the front part of the restaurant. However, I could not get past the flies that were in the restaurant. There were 2 flies hovering around our table the whole time and it was disgusting. When we were seated, we did not get any water at our table until after our entrees arrived and we had to ask for water. The waitress seemed like she did not want to be at the restaurant and wasn't very helpful. I don't even know where to begin with how bad all of the food is. So I ordered the fried catfish with sides of Mac and cheese and candied yams. All 3 of my items were horrible. The catfish was bland and tasted like cheap fish fried in plain batter. There was no seasonings or any spices and the piece of fish was drenched in oil on my plate. The candied yams were way too sweet. I understand yams are sweet to begin with, but these yams had so much sugar in them that it was unbearable as a side. It would be much better off as a desert item with that much sugar. The Mac and cheese was not good by an standard, but it was less bad than the yams. The Mac and cheese was not creamy or cheesy. It was bland and had too much oil or water in it. My friend ordered the BBQ chicken with Mac and cheese and collard greens. The BBQ chicken was the worst thing we have both tasted. It tasted like boiled chicken with a very thin coating of BBQ sauce on it. It wasn't the thick, sticky, finger liking BBQ I was expecting. The collard greens were horrible as well and it was simply boiled. It had no sort of taste or flavorings on it whatsoever. After such a disappointing meal, I wasn't going to bother with dessert since everything was awful upto this point but I got the banana pudding since desert was included in my groupon. The banana pudding wasn't the best but since the food was so bad, I'd have to say it was the least awful thing I've tried at this restaurant. Even with a groupon, I regret coming here and regret this meal because it was just that bad. Worst soul food I have ever tried.

I purchased a groupon because the restaurant received decent reviews. Well, what a disappointment. Initially we had a hard time finding the place because there wasn't a "Catfish Cafe" sign it only says "Soul food" outside (see picture) and this is in a seedy looking industrial area. The signage was pretty poor so we initially went into door on the left which was the takeout area but realized we were in the wrong spot. Once in the dining area what a greater disappointment it looked dingy and worst of all It smelled horrible (like bug spray). We asked a couple about the food and the guy assured us the food was ok. Well, I'd never know because the groupon was a bait and switch deal. According to the groupon, terms/fine print the voucher was worth $20 with the stipulation its for two persons-"dine in only", but the hostess informed us that we had to purchase $30 worth of food and we could deduct $20 she showed us a printed sign behind the counter (see picture). She said she couldn't change this without a managers approval and guess what, the manager wasn't there with no known arrival time. Truth be told, I was relieved because I wasn't going to eat at this restaurant.

The only reason you have 1 star is because of the pie that was the only item that wasn't salty the potato salad wasn't too salty so it was tolerable and i don't have time to drive there and have them replace the plate or refund me..So i ordered Uber eats yesterday 11/15/2018. I was so hungry because of the snowstorm. Anyway i ordered this a slice of pie and potato salad. My bill after the 3.49 delivery was like 26/27 dollars ..but i didn't care I'm hungry..i get my food and take a bite of the Mac and cheese..it's a bit salty..I'm like hmm take a bite of the shrimp..loaded with salt the whole shrimp dinner felt like i was licking the bottom of the ocean..are they trying to put someone in cardiac arrest..i couldn't even eat the food so i just wasted like 15 dollars...will definitely stick with southern girls because this is horrific

4 stars for the amazing food! I've been looking for a place like this since I moved back to New York. Homemade somewhat southern food! I had the seafood platter which consists of fried shrimp, fried catfish nuggets & whiting. It also came with two sides. I chose Mac n cheese and candied yams. I could not finish my food, it was so much for 16$! I also got a slice of red velvet cake. It was a little too sweet for me with too much icing but good nonetheless. I ordered online through grub hub and my order was ready in about 20 mins. I also used their groupon deal which got me 20$ worth of carry out for 15$! I have yet to dine in but I'm dying to take my bf here !

Got some dinner there tonight food was good tasteful. Reason I didn't give 5 stars is the prices! I felt for the bbq chicken dinner I got 10$ should be the max. I prefer breast and wing but was giving leg and thigh ‍ no issue. Got it with collards greens and Mac and cheese. Would I go back. Yes the atmosphere was cool. Despite a loud mouth dude parking cars being extra lol. Next time I go back I'll have the salmon. While I was there so many calls came in for it.

The food was flavorful and well-prepared, although some dishes leaned a bit salty for my taste. I ordered the sautéed shrimp and grits. The shrimp were delicious, but I wish the dish came with a larger portion of grits. The gravy was very generous and ended up making the dish a bit soupy, so a little more grits would have helped balance the dish. Other highlights from our table included the fried shrimp and waffles, yams, and mac and cheese, all of which were excellent. Another guest in my party ordered the BBQ salmon and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The ambiance is casual, comfortable, and inviting, making it a great spot for either a local brunch or a relaxed dinner. The service was attentive and pleasant throughout our visit. We were even greeted by the owner upon arrival, and his friendliness and hospitality immediately made us feel welcome and set a positive tone for the entire experience. Overall, this is a solid neighborhood restaurant with good food, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent customer service. I'd definitely return to try more items from the menu.

I mean you don't have to take for food home but you gotta get up out of there type spot. This spot has bulletproof casing all in the front. My first time her and the lady behind the counter was really nice and very informative. The lady behind the counter helped me by telling me that they only had chicken and fish. That really helps! I ordered whiting dinner, writing with fries, and chicken w fries along with two peach cobblers. I reached home and MAAN, I layed out my spread and dug in. I normally watch Netflix and chill on the food but I gave total concentration and focus. The whiting was cooked perfectly. Not too hard and not too greasy I had to put that tartar sauce and hot sauce that they provided in a 2 oz container. The peas and rice was very delicious. It was not wet nor was it dry like most places that sell this dish. It was moist. I'm thinking because it was a southern peas and rice and not the Islands rice and peas. I do prefer my greens cut a little more than what it was but it's better than eating half of a leaf like some want to get sould foods serve. All in all I had a great visit and great food. Now! I did order peach cobbler! It's not home cooked. It's more commercialized for the convenience bulk booking and not a family feast. What made me say that? I'm glad you asked. It's all in the crust, baby! The crust was so miniscule, it feels like I was eating peaces that were warmed. I didn't finish my container. I don't know who is going to eat the other container but hey. If you like peach cobbler with no crust, go for it. I will come again and the next time I'll just get cake. They do catering as well. I saw one person walking out with two big pans. I'm glad that I discovered this place because I've been wanting catered fish but I only knew of a quality spot in Brooklyn . This place is less than two miles. It's a Hop, Skip, and a Jump away from me.

This is a buffet style set up and there is limited high top seating for dine-in. There are concerns about open buffet settings but one issue that this restaurant defeated would be cross contamination. I give ovation when I see the hand sanitizers that are set out for use before dipping from the buffet and you must use plastic gloves that are set out for use when touching utensils. Staff monitoring is another issue that I observed them performing every time that I entered. Temperature control can be questioned if you are dining in. Food safety is another to be observed. The buffet offers so many delicious dishes and a huge salad bar. They do serve breakfast items such as dumplings boiled or fried, green banana, yams, and salt fish just to name a few. They have salmon, Quiona, Chicken, oxtails, fritters, delicious vegetable dishes. I even saw curried chicken feet. Not that I would be eating them because mom and dad never served us this dish growing up and I am not about to add this dish to my palate at my age. I am not knocking it but whatever floats your boat. I am pretty sure you may find something you like and they make smoothies. I have tried the salmon on two occasions, and I question the food safety on this dish. I find that the salmon was not to my liking as it may have not been fresh on occasion and or it taste overcooked it was hard to cut let alone chew. The vegetables taste great. I would like to have Quiona, but chef community seem to think that everyone appreciates corn in their food. I will go back to try something other than breakfast or salmon. So happy eating and ....
