This was my first time ordering from Maxine, and the food was so good that I decided to give it another try. Both times, the flavor was consistent and absolutely delicious. On my second visit, I went to see the restaurant in person and noticed the name had changed from Maxine to GT. The surrounding neighborhood wasn't what I expected and felt a bit run down. That said, the inside of the restaurant was clean, with an "A" health rating clearly posted in the window. There's no seating available, and all orders are taken behind bulletproof glass, which seems to reflect the area. I also appreciated that the food isn't sitting out in trays--it's prepared fresh in the back once you order. The staff handled food properly, putting on gloves after handling my payment. Overall, I'd rate the food a solid 5/5 and the location a 1/5, averaging out to a 3-star experience. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant, and the service is always top tier! Welcoming like a southern hospitality. The Food Is Absolutely beautiful! I always go whiting or catfish. The Catfish is what I get now it's always very fresh well seasoned and it is not FAKE No Shade ! And the sides is always a plus! EUREKA!!! I asking for a fish spot and a friend told me about The Boulevard. I finally came in and I see that the ambiance is strictly take out. I mean you don't have to take for food home but you gotta get up out of there type spot. This spot has bulletproof casing all in the front. My first time her and the lady behind the counter was really nice and very informative. The lady behind the counter helped me by telling me that they only had chicken and fish. That really helps! I ordered whiting dinner, writing with fries, and chicken w fries along with two peach cobblers. I reached home and MAAN, I layed out my spread and dug in. I normally watch Netflix and chill on the food but I gave total concentration and focus. The whiting was cooked perfectly. Not too hard and not too greasy I had to put that tartar sauce and hot sauce that they provided in a 2 oz container. The peas and rice was very delicious. It was not wet nor was it dry like most places that sell this dish. It was moist. I'm thinking because it was a southern peas and rice and not the Islands rice and peas. I do prefer my greens cut a little more than what it was but it's better than eating half of a leaf like some want to get sould foods serve. All in all I had a great visit and great food. Now! I did order peach cobbler! It's not home cooked. It's more commercialized for the convenience bulk booking and not a family feast. What made me say that? I'm glad you asked. It's all in the crust, baby! The crust was so miniscule, it feels like I was eating peaces that were warmed. I didn't finish my container. I don't know who is going to eat the other container but hey. If you like peach cobbler with no crust, go for it. I will come again and the next time I'll just get cake. They do catering as well. I saw one person walking out with two big pans. I'm glad that I discovered this place because I've been wanting catered fish but I only knew of a quality spot in Brooklyn . I was craving fried fish tonight . I just had to have it. Im scrolling through Yelp trying to find a place to eat fish and then I scrolled upon her. Maxine's On The Boulevard. I was driving and looking for this place. It wasn't lite up, sign was dark, but I caught the name Maxine and I said that's it, made a u turn, and parked around the corner. I thought to myself this is a hole in the wall. People where coming in and out of this place. I called a head of time and asked if they had catfish and whiting and she said yes. Today 8/23/25, we just came back with 2 large order of whitings with rice & beans, Mac & cheese plus collard greens. We also got a large order shrimps. The fish are well seasoned & delicious alongside with the shrimps, rice is delicious & the collard greens are cooked with smoke turkey. Only disappointment the potato salad was not ready. Chrysanthius I live in Brooklyn and everyone knows i will travel anywhere to get good food, I love the Stewed Brown Chicken Lunch Special you get meat with 2 veggies. You can't beat that for under $8.00. and I can make two meals out of it. The have the best homemade fresh cakes for $3.50 a slice ( large slices). The catfish is the best I've tasted so far. My hunny and I tried Maxine's on a whim. Our local places ran out of items so we decided to order takeout from here. Let me start off by saying the food is seasoned very well, but the portions are underwhelming. I'm a huge seafood lover, especially of the fried variety. There's nothing like a to-go platter of fried shrimp, Mac & Queso, collards, and a side of potato salad. I mean I'm salivating just thinking about it. My hunny had fried whiting, Mac & Queso, with collards. My shrimp diner contained maybe 7-8 shrimps at most. I'm used to 10-12 shrimps whenever I get a shrimp dinner. Our food was delicious but the portions were questionable. Also who doesn't give an ample amount of tartar sauce. Out of Ribs and pork but did have Mac & Cheese and Collards all good. It's mainly take out with plexi glass walls for safety but the customers were friendly and nice Maybe go in the daytime based on the set up. The Home of Down Home Soul Eats, I spotted Blvd. I was greeted by a older Jamaican woman who informed me of the $12 & $15 cat fish and whiting plates. Each served with 2 sides. I opted for the fried Whiting. Our food was prepped about 15-20 minutes max. No lines. No B.S. I paid with my credit card which was an added bonus. I hate credit minimum limits. My Godmother ordered the Potato Salad and Cole slaw as choice sides. I ordered the Collared Greens and macaroni and cheese. Every side was PERFECTION. The potato salad was just....beyond words. A little zest, sweet zing and chive for flavor. The MacNcheese was heavenly. The Cole Slaw was spot on delicious. My whiting was not greasy, nice crispy exterior and plump.
