I ordered a Cajun fried turkey from Catfish Charlie's for Thanksgiving. This was the biggest mistake that I have ever made! The turkey was a malnourished, hard, inedible mess!!! We literally could not eat it. The turkey was fried so hard that we couldn't pull it from the bone. To make matters worse, it was very expensive. We paid a whopping $80 for something we couldn't eat! Very unprofessional & rude staff! I placed a to go order last week - I picked it up and left, then discovered it was the wrong order, so I went back to have it corrected. There was a gentleman that assisted me and told me to wait there, by the register, while I was waiting a lady came up and was behind the counter and looked at me and very rudely told me that I needed to move and when I told her I was told to stand there she responded with I don't care, get your butt over there and sit down to wait - you can't stand there! Due to this unprofessional incident that made me feel very out of place and unwelcome, you have lost a customer. I will no longer do business at your restaurant. read more

Everything we tried was delicious. We had shrimp, fries, fish, swamp fries, onion rings, and a plane hamburger patty for the dog. We got a little overloaded with fried food but it was all yummy. The two dinners came with coleslaw. It is a sweet slaw which was nice with all the savory food. The dog was crazy about his patty. The employees were friendly and efficient. Amazing food and the price was reasonable also. We had the catfish strips, fried oysters, red bean and rice, jumbo shrimp, jambalaya, and a kids grilled cheese sandwich. All of that cost $78.32. The service was super fast. It's like a fast food place where you come in, order and grab a table to sit and enjoy your food. We did come right before the lunch rush. It got pretty busy by the time we were leaving. They had a party room inside. They also cater and have a food truck. Wish I lived closer. They had a sauce bar that you just grab yourself. Tarter, ketchup, cocktail sauce. Everything but the jambalaya was delicious. It wasn't bad but I had better else where. All the food came with fries that we didn't eat lol. This place really does intrigue me. It's kind of a fast food den of salty, fried foods. You don't come here particularly for the ambiance. I wasn't sure what to even try as being loaded visually with pretty much everything the south is known for in fried foods. Ultimately decided on a catfish poboy. The bread they put it on is soft and absolutely perfect. The catfish is decent. The portion size of everything - gargantuan. I actually wish I split this with someone instead of attempting to eat one by myself. I love that they are not short on condiments off to the side (mayo, hot sauce, ketchup, sour cream (yes, you heard me - SOUR CREAM). Hushpuppies I was actually disappointed with. They were way too salty. I do like that there are no corn niblets inside (shudders in revulsion) but its mostly all cornbread. But holy mackerel do I taste salt! Loved the cajun mashed taters. They smash the potatoes up so its not too creamy and then add in the actual juices that they simmer the cajun boils into the potatoes. Just wow. read more

I really couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars .. I'm on the fence with this place. I guess I have a love-hate relationship with them. Lol. Starting off, the potato salad was AMAZING. I loved everything about it. Very southern taste, which I was not expecting. I will say, I was shocked that I liked the hint of dill that was in it. Very good!!! For my entree, I ordered the Catfish D'Arbonne, blackened. The sauce was AMAZING, but that seemed to be the only flavored thing on the plate. I imagine that they were afraid of over seasoning the food so they let the sauce be the star.. very safe call. But the problem was..... I didn't have enough sauce on my plate to mask the "fresh water" taste from the fish. I hate when my fish tastes like fish, lol. While it did have a spiciness to it, there wasn't much flavor to the fish itself. But overall, I was pleased with my food. I would go back again and try other things. My husband says that I should've gotten the fish fried instead of blackened. He says that their fried catfish was amazing and was seasoned well. I'm always down for 2nd chances. A yankee like me will jump at the chance for an authentic Cajun experience on a dime, and for my money, my dime was well spent. I can't say I felt like I was in the bayou, but wrastlin gators and trudgin swampland wasn't on my agenda anyway. This unassuming gem is parked in an even more unassuming suburban mini mall parking lot that looks like it was born and stayed in 1988. Walking in I was pleasantly over greeted by the staff. The kind of greeting that in the north makes you think the counter help are just being condescending, but in the south the greeting is a clear indicator that the sweet tea will be delish. And it was. I went with the double filet and oyster combo basket. The fried slice of heaven was served up on a bed of fresh fries. I smiled at the counter girl and said "make it snappy" with a wink, which in Catfish Charlie-speak means "shake some kind of hot pepper dust on it". The breading was perfect, the cafeteria style seating set the perfect ambience, and while I ate I got to watch a right wing news segment on abortions. How could this get any better?! One word. Condiments. Hot sauce with a tiger face on the bottle, ketchup, tartar, A-1, creole shake, Heinz 57, bbq.....and there were more condiments selections I can't recall....far more than any one hungry traveler could ask for. Ate here on a Monday at 4:30 or so. Staff was friendly and helpful, even though we had substitutions in our order. Asking for spicy food by asking for it "snappy" was fun. I had mine snappy and liked the level of spice (flavorful but not hot). The food itself (popcorn shrimp and fish fillets) were excellent and indeed tasted fresh. The sweet tea was perfect--not too sweet, but just right (they deserve a medal for this alone). Bathrooms were clean with some humerus decor. I have always ate here but never again after the rude nature of the employees I encountered on today, September 1, 2020. The food tastes great. My order seemed different than normal and I inquired about it to an employee. I was immediately dismissed after she said it WAS the right amount and she turned her back to me, giving me the impression that she was "done with me". I know my order wasn't right but I was giving them the chance to fix it without me being rude to anyone. I was just here recently and ordered the same thing. My friend and I stopped for lunch while on our road trip and had a great meal. The catfish was perfect - crispy and tasty and the basket was the perfect size for a light lunch. The employees were friendly and as I found out later that evening - extremely honest. I realized upon arriving in Oxford, Mississippi that I had left my wallet with all of my credit cards and money. Backtracked today to retrieve it and they had it saved for me - all intact. Fried catfish is always a treat Atmosphere: This restaurant is in a stand alone building, a former CiCi's Pizza, I have been told. There is plenty of seating in the main dining area that is right of the walk-up ordering/registers near the door, and there is also two separate rooms with longer tables to the left when walking into the restaurant. Nothing fancy about this place, a casual ambience that is great for families with kids. There is a drink area for dispensing past the registers, near the restrooms. The kitchen is open, so all can see their food as it cooks Food: There is a good variety of different options on their menu, from fried catfish, to fried shrimp, and even fried oysters. If you do not wish for a combo or a platter for your meal, po-boys, hamburgers, and steak is also available. There is also a good selection of sides to choose from. I had ordered fried catfish, as I have not had it in several years. The catfish came out thicker than I had anticipated, which resulted in a fluffy and soft texture. Even though my fish was plainly seasoned, there were condiments on each table to adjust my fish to taste. So so good. Fries were my accompaniment, which seemed to fit with fish. I would like to have tried several different t items as well, but my own plate was filling enough Service: Do not expect to be waited on in any way. You walk up to the order counter, order your food, are given a device to let you know when your food is ready, and pay. You are given a cup to fill for yourself at the drink station, and find your own seats while you wait for your device to signal you your food is ready. Even though there is not a waitstaff, the staff that does work around the dining areas are pleasant and friendly I would love to come back here occasionally, if i were to be in the neighbourhood often.
