Cathy is truly a Godsend! After visiting one other salon and having a terrible experience , I made an appointment at Catherine Robert's. I walked in, we chatted for a few minutes and I showed her a pic of how I normally wear my hair. The first wig she put on and I looked just like myself. it was astonishing!! She cares about her customers, and wants them to feel great when they walk out the door. She also gave me more information, about when my hair would start falling out, than anyone else had. Because of her I was not blindsided when it started. I was expecting it. She helped me fill out the paperwork for my insurance company too so I could get reimbursed ASAP! After wearing the wig for the first time, the hair was a little long around my face. I went back to Cathy and she cut more bangs into the wig and framed my face. it is now perfection. I pull in into a barrette, which is what I did with my own hair and even my husband and son forget I have no hair (for now:)) I will be making another appointment for a shorter wig for when my hair starts growing again so I can transition from long wig to short wig to short hair! I started Chemo and went to see Catherine. She is the kindest women. I cried through a lot of my first appointment. I went back today because I was having trouble putting the wig on properly. Catherine cut my hair very short for me( It is all falling out) to make it easier for me too put my wig on. She made a sad time for me so much easier. read more

This wig store was the first I went to just as I started chemo. The owner Cathy, looked at my hair and brought one wig out that I loved and looked so natural. But since it was my 1st wig store I figured I would look around. After looking at other wig stores I decided to go back to Cathy. My insurance wouldn't cover it but she went out of her way to contact the breast cancer coalition from my town and they immediately said they would take care of it and covered my cost. I got to take the wig home that very same day. It's a little pricey but DEFINITELY GOOD QUALITY. I would recommend this place to anyone. Cathy takes her time to help you find the right fit. I cannot recommend Cathy and her shop enough. She has been so kind and compassionate during the most difficult time dealing with my daughters health condition. She is professional, kind, caring, and funny. She has really helped me and my daughter during this time - providing advice, options and positivity. Her little dog in the shop is adorable and lovable - breaking some tension and sitting in my daughters lap (because we requested) and providing much needed support only a pet can do. I have never been a vain person but I walked in bald and left beautiful. Cathy is an Experienced Professional who gives it to you straight but with compassion. I never felt I was being sold or conned. So many other places immediately tossed a FULL HEAD of super long human hair at me and after decades of less and less hair on my scalp those wigs felt like a Vegas showgirl headdress. And those wigs needed way too much maintenance for one who wasn't use to anything more than dropping a ball cap over my pink scalp over the past years. And every stylist at every other place visited was a salesman attempting to make the most of their commissions. NOT CATHY. We had an excellent experience purchasing a wig for my mom today after losing her hair to chemotherapy. Cathy was extremely nice and selected the perfect wig after I showed her a picture of my mom with hair. She showed her how it looked in natural light as well. We weren't rushed and she showed us a few different styles and hats with hair and scarves. She even explained the insurance claim process. I am an Esthetician and permanent makeup artist who is currently suffering from what I believe is stress related hair loss. I visited Catherine's place a few weeks ago with a friend. My friend needed a wig for thinning hair and I wanted a clip on top extension for some thinning spots on my part. My hairdresser half told me there were a few more in the back. Catherine suggested I might have alopecia areata. I have an dermatologist appointment next week and it is getting worse. I will be back for a wig soon. After reading Yelp and Google reviews about wig salons in the area, I took my mom who just started chemo to Cathy's. I didn't know we needed an appointment, but Cathy had a cancelation and helped us right away. I can only reiterate what everyone else has said about Cathy being knowledgeable, kind, compassionate, no rush, no pressure, only cares about the person being comfortable and happy. She didn't have a wig in the style my mom liked in her color, so she ordered it, and another one similar to it, so my mom could come back and try them both. If my mom isn't happy, she'll order more. Cathy's salon is @ 1/2 hour drive, but well worth the trip! Do make an appointment ahead of time. I can't imagine having a better experience elsewhere. And, while you're there, I highly recommend going next door to Bonomo's ... excellent pizza (we had the Grandma's pizza), and they have a full menu of other items. read more

My 73 year old mother was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and will be starting chemotherapy soon. She expects to lose her hair, so she wants to get a nice wig ahead of time so she's prepared for that. We started with a wig store on Old Country Road near my parents' house because we pass it regularly in our comings and goings. The store would have been extremely convenient for wig maintenance and styling when my mother is going through her chemotherapy. We had such an unfathomably bad experience there that my mother was almost in tears and ready to give up (please look under my name for my review of that store). My two sisters, my father and I convinced my mother to try one more store that a friend who had gone through cancer treatment had recommended to one of my sisters. She agreed and we took her to Catherine Roberts Wig Salon in Massapequa. Our experience there was truly more than we could have hoped for. We had no appointment, so one of my sisters went into the salon to see if we could get my mother in. She was greeted kindly by Cathy, who was working alone and helping others at the time. Cathy told my sister there were two people ahead of us, but that she could see my mother in about 45 minutes. My sister gladly agreed and we went next door for pizza (Bravo's, by the way. Awesome pizza!) About a half hour later Cathy came into the pizza place to tell us she was free, but not to rush and to come over when we were done. When we went back to the salon, Cathy introduced herself to my mother, asked my mother her name and inquired about why my mother was looking for a wig. She was knowledgeable about chemotherapy (this type of medical hair loss is apparently a regular part of their business) and told my mother that with the chemo she will be using it is possible she will see thinning rather total hair loss. Cathy brought my mother to a chair and questioned her about what she was looking for. She then brought my mother a succession of different wigs, explaining for each what type it was, if it had a specific fastener or way of being worn, and then helped my mother put it on. She was so kind and patient. She was happy to answer questions the rest of us had, but really focused her attention on my mom. As she and my mother looked at and talked about each wig, Cathy would move my mom toward the front window so they could see the color of the wig in natural daylight. They were a team working to find something my mother would be comfortable with in "real life" when she is struggling with the rest of what chemo is going to throw at her. Cathy also explained that Medicare will usually reimburse for part of the cost of a wig necessitated by chemotherapy, and gave my mother information about submitting a reimbursement claim (including the diagnosis code!) My mother found a wig that she liked, but Cathy actually recommended ordering two others as well for my mother to try, without any obligation to purchase, just to make sure that my mom is as comfortable and confident about her choice as she can be. The diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is frightening and extremely stressful. My mother is working hard to handle this all with as much strength and positivity as she can, but it's a challenge. She is a strong woman, but our experience at the first wig store left her demoralized and upset. Cathy fixed it all. She made my mother's wig shopping experience relaxing and reassuring. Cathy's knowledge and her caring, supportive demeanor were such a relief considering the bad experience we had just come from. My mother was almost in tears from the other place, but left Catherine Roberts with a smile on her face. I cannot say enough great things about Catherine Roberts Wig Salon. Going through chemotherapy is tough and has it's physical and emotional challenges. While hair grows back, it is still very difficult to go through the process of losing it during treatment. Catherine was professional, experienced, patient and extremely informative. When I told her the chemotherapy cocktail that I was going to be on, she told me exactly when my hair would start to fall out and how the process would go. She also warned me not to buzz cut my hair because my scalp would become sensitive and buzz cutting my hair would cause more sensitivity. When it came time to select and style the wig she very comforting and talked me through the whole process. Catherine provides instructions with regard to the proper way to put on the wig as well as how to care for the wig. At no point was there any pressure to make a purchase. This is the only place in my opinion to go for a wig during chemotherapy. read more
