    Quirky decor

Cathy's Cafe was a pleasant little surprise. A very small storefront online with many little shops in a narrow alleyway kind of area in Salado. Upon entering I was surprised at how large the dining area actually was. Cute ambience with quirky decor. The space was very comfortable and the service very welcoming. It was busy and with only the owners working it took a little bit but it was easy to see they were working hard. All the items ordered were great and they had excellent prices. Overall, pleasantly surprised and happy we stopped in as we were passing by. We would definitely go again.

Cathy herself was seating, taking orders & delivering meals. Her husband was in the kitchen cooking. Very nice couple w/ a positive attitude despite C19 difficulties. My recommendation is the salmon burger or the grilled roast beef & melted Swiss cheese sandwich. Either way check the "daily specials" b/4 ordering from the menu. Dr. Pepper is all I need but they have other fountain drinks. The salmon burger tastes so good that you need to be careful not to smother it w/ too many toppings. The place is clean & welcoming. Cathy is very attentive. Antiques abound. This is also the place for potty breaks if you're shopping the antique stores.

Liked the hometown feel and welcoming environment. Also, even though it wasn't on rye, it was the Patty Melt I've been looking for! Loved it!!!

Super quick and friendly service in a cute cafe. Plenty of tables and seating available...good spot for small and/or large groups. The iced tea (both the sweet and unsweetened) is worth the trip alone. If you're a fan of pecan pie - try theirs! Jack Daniels Pecan Pie I decided to try a piece after reading other yelp reviews and I am happy I did.

I think this may be a family run business just from the way everyone talked and got along.

This is my second visit since the restaurant's most recent ownership change. Had Sunday brunch first visit. One of my friends doesn't eat eggs and asked if she could have a menu item that included eggs, a meat and breakfast potatoes. She asked if the eggs could be left off. She was told NO, so she then just ordered a bread and coffee. I don't understand the waitress response because we weren't asking to deduct the cost of the eggs! She just doesn't eat eggs! Turns out they were out of breakfast potatoes and wanted to bring us french fries instead. We declined. Really.....nothing special about this breakfast and very expensive and disappointing service. The only positive was the restaurant looks nice. Decided to give the restaurant another chance and went for lunch. Had soup and salad. I really only wanted a cup of soup, but that was not possible. Had a very good strawberry and watermelon salad and a giant bowl of corn bisque swimming in oil on top. Very unpalatable. Told the waitress and all I was offered was that they would tell the chef. The salad was $16 and the soup was uneaten and cost me $14! They did bring me the standard Stagecoach hush puppies before my meal and they were delicious! When I had heard the restaurant would be managed by the owners of Monument Cafe I was so excited. I love Monument, but this restaurant is too expensive for the poor quality of food. I would love to have the menu at Monument at this restaurant. The only positive is that the remodel of the restaurant is lovely in appearance. I wouldn't mind the prices if the food was delicious and it was not. I won't return nor will I recommend to my friends. Very disappointing.

Our waitress was outstanding and shared the history of the location with us. She gave us great drink recommendations. The chicken fettuccine alfredo was a solid pasta and came in a large portion. I also got a glass of moscato. My friends enjoyed the chicken piccata, triple delight, and shrimp scampi. When I made a reservation over the phone and also when I arrived, I was told by the hostess that there would be something special done for the birthday occasion. I saw in other reviews that they give a small dessert with a message, but they did not do anything of the sort. Our server was extremely slow, and the birthday dessert never came. This was a huge disappointment when I specifically chose this restaurant to celebrate the occasion.

We both got catfish dinners, one traditional fried, the other spicy cajun. Sides included fried okra, fries, mashed potatoes and gravy (you get a choice of brown or white), green beans, choice of Texas toast or jalapeno hushpuppies. Everything came out fresh and to order, all home made and generous portions. Old timey flavours, nostalgia for the way country diners were way back when. Lots of items listed on wall boards, in addition to the printed menu. Service was friendly and efficient, and we were checked on several times through the meal. Paid at the counter. Looks like they also do breakfasts sometimes, would probably be a good idea to call and check days offered. I'm not sure if they serve breakfast. At one time they were serving breakfast, then they stopped. Service is nice but they can get really busy so patience is key depending on the day.
