She was very kind and extremely accommodating on the phone with our restrictive schedule, and she and her staff was super friendly and helpful in making sure we had everything in our order, including serving utensils. And the turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet potatoes, rolls and gravy were arguably the best that any of us have ever had! If you're thinking about working with Cathy, save yourself the trouble. I only used her kitchen twice, and even on my second visit I did my best to follow rules. Yet I was suddenly told to "find somewhere else to work out of," with no warning, no discussion, and no chance to fix anything. She's claimed I was "unprepared," left chocolate drippings everywhere, and that something I asked about was "illegal." Let's be real -- I simply asked if I could bring dough I made at home to bake in the kitchen oven, which is completely normal for a beginner baker. Any "mess" referenced was either on her side of the kitchen while she was actively using it, or the trash, which was never flagged as a serious issue at the time. The second time I used the kitchen, it was actually messy when I arrived, and I made it look cleaner than when I got there. Or the smallest thing I didn't catch -- but that's normal when sharing a busy kitchen. Excuse me, but am I supposed to buy my own trays? What's the point of renting a kitchen if I have to bring everything myself? She also claims I got upset when the kitchen wasn't available around Thanksgiving -- completely false. I literally replied "okay, understood" after she explained the schedule was full and busy. There was never any argument or complaint from me; this is another example of her rewriting the story. Payment was pay-as-you-go, which she initially approved. I did pay the first time, and when I asked about payment for the second visit, she told me I could pay "whenever." The only reason mentioned later for being kicked out was if I could pay $1,200/month. Let that sink in: if I had agreed to $1,200, there would have never been an issue. The pay-as-you-go arrangement was explicitly approved, and same-day payment was only mentioned after the fact, yet now it's being framed as if I was negligent or breaking rules. I could afford the $25 rate and even asked if a slightly adjusted rate could be negotiated -- it would have been no problem if it couldn't. I was new, learning, and tried to follow all expectations. Her guidance was limited to brief, dismissive replies like "ok" or "now you know," which is not mentorship -- it's brushing someone off. Her matureness is astonishing considering she's pushing 70. She owns a licensed commercial kitchen, but she can't communicate expectations clearly, treats beginner bakers unfairly, and rewrites history to make herself look professional. read more

Never been to the physical cafe but they did provide catering in conjunction with event planner and caterer in the area. Great job on the beef pies guys! It was new for you, but everyone raved about them. Portions were also so generous that we had to give things away to our guests. Thanks also for taking the needs of some of our guests seriously and catering to them. They felt very seen and cared for. We ordered take out for the night before Easter and Easter day for 2 of us. The food was excellent!! Very fresh, tasty and well packaged. The serving sizes were huge! This place is OK. Stopped in a couple weeks back because twin trees was packed (just wanted a calzone or something). The food is extremely old school, I felt like my 90 year old grandma might like it. We started with crab cakes which were mushy and fell apart but tasted fine. My girlfriend had a steak sandwich and I had Shepard's pie both of which were good but not great. Steak sandwich was over cooked. Large portions. Beer selection was meh but at least they had saranac on draft and Syracuse pale in bottles. Probably won't be back unless I see they have made a big change in the menu. read more

I went to a friends wedding of about 150 people in September that was catered by this company, and while the few bites of food I got to try were delicious, the AMOUNT of food that was served was totally lacking. According to the bride and groom, one of the shrimp appetizers that was promised in the menu contract was completely missing. Also the open bar ran out of bud light(it was supposed to be stocked for the entire night) and worse - they ran out of food before dinner was served to every table! Our table got called, and when I went up to the buffet line expecting to help myself, the caterers were serving the food to ensure that no one took too much. It was clear that they were going to run out of food by the end of dinner, and when they did they had to call a local restaurant to get take-out for the remaining tables that hadn't gotten to eat. I heard a few tables of ten were left to be called by that time, and the place cards left on the welcome table clearly showed that an entire family ended up not making it to the reception, yet they still managed to run out of food. Thankfully, no one alerted the newlyweds of this because it would have made for a very stressful wedding day mis-hap. How embarrasing. I know that the bride and groom spent quite a bit on this particular catering company, and although Cathy's clearly broke their contract by RUNNING OUT OF FOOD, she has apparently only managed to give back two thousand dollars to them in return for a total fail on their big day. Based on this particular experience along with other reviews of Cathy's catering I've read, I would absolutely NOT reccomend trusting this woman to cater any event in the future. She obviously doesn't know what she's doing. read more

Cathy catered an on sight lunch for our family after our father's funeral a few weeks ago. The food, hospitality & service was spot on! We called somewhat blindly from out of town to make arrangements, remembering Smorol's at this location when we were kids. Cathy was accomodating & provided the perfect home cooked meal for us, our local friends and family. Her lasagna was amazing as was the chicken vino blanco she prepared. Went for the publicized Easter Brunch with our family of approximately 20. The buffet was not worth the 27.95 per person. The vegetables were cold and had to wait in the line for 4 items to be refilled. During the meal a relative spit out a bread tie located in the pineapple stuffing. This was brought to the attention of the wait staff. At the end of the meal a lady (the owner) approached this same relative and began to attack his credibility that there is no way he had a zip tie in his food. He attempted to correct her by stating it was a bread tie and instead of apologizing for this unfortunate mishap she stomped away. Her unprofessionalism was overwhelming. Our family of 20 went for Easter Brunch, My uncle found a bread twist tie in his pineapple stuffing. It did get relayed to the wait staff and as we were finishing up brunch the OWNER came out verbally attacking him. She walked up to him bent over right in his face saying "excuse me, excuse me, I just heard that you said there was a zip tie in your stuffing and there is no way. I made it myself, there was no zip tie in there." All of us were taken back by her unprofessionalism. We said there was a white bread tie in it, we all saw it. She said, "oh that could happen." She never apologized for the bread tie or her attitude when she came into the dinning room to embarrass him. The food was subpar and not worth $30 pp. We will never go back read more

Absolutely terrible - if I could give 0 stars I would. Cathy catered my wedding and literally ran out of food for my guests (this was after we gave her an accurate head count ahead of time and had several meetings with her). We should have ran when she didn't bother to show up to the first meeting, but we tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. It was so bad that Cathy ran out during the wedding (to who knows where) to get more food - she came back with random cold food to serve to my guests. You could tell her staff was trying to do their best, but were completely inexperienced as well - especially the bartender who said he had never bar-tended before that night. She honestly ruined my wedding - I was completely embarrassed and mortified, not to mention the many thousands of dollars I paid her for this terrible service. When I called to complain after the wedding she was completely unsympathetic - clearly this wasn't the first time this had happened. She should be ashamed to call herself a businesswoman. I work a few stories above Cathy's, so I thought I'd try them for lunch. After looking at the Specials menu they fax daily I decided on the spinach salad, went downstairs and ordered. I was told they were out of mushrooms, so no mushrooms on the salad. I thought that was odd, since they were listed as an ingredient on the spinach salad that was on the specials menu. Why list the salad when you don't have an ingredient in house? The "chef" also did not add the London broil, as also listed as an ingredient in the salad.
