This review actually started yesterday. I made the grave error of trusting google for the time the Green Gate closed. Big mistake. Google, Facebook, and their website-posted-menus all list different closing times, so naturally I pulled into an empty parking lot. A true shame, as I had been looking forward to trying this place and they had a burger on the menu I was really craving. "No worries" I thought, "I'll be back tomorrow a tad earlier and try that burger!" Fast forward to today, I rushed through all of my after-work errands to make sure I could make it in while they were still open. I pulled into a parking lot full of cars, all seemed well. As I approached the door, I heard some music. Ok, well, the website DID mention jazz night, this must be it. Now jazz isn't my favorite music, but I do enjoy its elegant ambiance while eating a nice burger. I take one of the only open seats at the bar and request a menu, to which one was promptly provided. Oh no. I panic as I frantically scan the bespoke menu hastily printed on a piece of paper. There's no burger, in fact, it's completely different! No reason to stress, I'm hungry so I'll find something I like. I settled on the Jaeger schnitzel, which if you're familiar --is basically the complete opposite of a burger. I place my order for my food and and a beer, only to receive the flattest yuengling I've ever drank. There's hasn't been a bubble in this keg since at least 2021. It's fine, this is fine, I've had worse. Let's enjoy the jazz while I wait for my (not a blue cheese bacon burger) Jaeger schnitzel. As I start to settle in and take in my surroundings, I'm quickly realizing this is unlike any jazz I've ever heard before. It's a duo composed of two men, one with a keyboard, and one with what looks like a giant xylophone. It sounded like aggressive elevator music, and at one point, I half expected a full grown woman with a recorder to jump out from behind a curtain and hit the high notes. As I was writing this, it seems the band found the synthesizer settings. Lord help me, it's about to get CRAZY in here. The audience seemed to enjoy it, however, so who am I to judge, maybe I'M the one who's wrong. They enjoyed it so much, that they would routinely clap halfway through a "song" for no discernable reason. I guess my ear for jazz needs a tune up. It could also be the fact that everyone in the room was born before unleaded gasoline was invented. Maybe things were just different back then. My food arrived and honestly it was fantastic. The meat was tender, the spätzle was the perfect tenderness, the beets(?) were good I guess, as good as beets can be... Probably the second best Jaeger schnitzel I've ever had. I really mean that. The bar (concert) area was nice, classic and warm. The bathroom was clean, the decor was on brand. The bartenders were professional and prompt, and everyone was friendly, likely because I reminded them of their favorite grandson. I'm giving this 5 starts, because it was the most unintentionally hilarious meal I've ever eaten. 10/10 read more

How this place is still open is beyond me. Owner/bartender is still not acknowledging, even with a nod, your existence. Been there 5-10 times and always the same so it's not just a bad day it's always. The place makes me want to drink but at home by myself. Between the several rude , in your face signs about credit card usage or general music/vibe/decor that depresses me it will be the last time I hope for a change in this place I'll take it elsewhere read more

The food was incredible. The service was a bit slow, but they're short staffed... going in understanding this will help you better enjoy your experience. They're working as fast they can given circumstances. The drinks are also very tasty. Prices are great. Highly recommend if you want to sit back and have a longer evening out. read more

Digging the vibe in here. We got there as soon as it opened, tons of tvs to watch your favorite games and they played great music. Never made it to the actual dining room as we stayed in the bar but it was chill, not too loud and had a cozy vibe. We had the spinach dip, it came with warm tortilla chips (which REALLY makes a difference) and the Mediterranean Pizza, it was thin and so delish. Eclectic menu, from pub style offerings to some of the best prepared meals Ive had anywhere in the area. Parm encrusted baked Haddock special was perfect! Casual and typically uncrowded dining room; the entrance to the DR is through the bar. Escargo with Blue cheese was great (even if a bit too salty for my taste) Fried Haddock on their nightly menu and steak sandwich are perfect too! Stuffed cabbage specials, Mediterranean thin hand stretched pizza, Ordering /serving time is reasonable, especially considering it seems each meal is genuinely hand made. I had been to this restaurant years ago, so I was curious to see how it had changed throughout the years. As I walked in, I immediately noticed the bar had been updated but still had that old time feel. It was a Thursday night and the bar wasn't crowded at all, which I was happy about. We sat at the bar and ordered some drinks. They have a decent tap selection, and prices are average. I ordered the schnitzel off the specials menu, and it was delicious! Went here with a large party that wanted to spend a lot of money on food and drinks. It was about 5 PM. Not really crowded. We sat for 15 minutes before someone came to take our drink orders. They eventually came after another 15 minutes. So we asked if we could order and a guy came from behind the bar who I found out was the owner and rudely told us to be patient and anything from the kitchen would be over an hour. Stopped by this place on Friday night at 7, was shocked to find we were the only ones in the dining room. We had 3 entrees, a burger, French dip, and egg plant parm. All were very well prepared. The service was excellent, (I would expect so, being the only patrons). Not sure why this place is deadsville...the food was worth the price point, would have been nice if they provided a salad or bread, but otherwise a good stop for quality food. The place smells like every beer that's ever been spilled there. It's basically a pool hall, which is great if that's what you're looking for, but nothing like what is represented online. Everyone in the place turned and looked at us when we walked in. We walked out in about 15 seconds; before we could leave the parking lot we saw another party do the same. Went here on a friday night the pub was packed with locals and the dining area mostly full. We were seated within minutes and waited on by a very nice elderly woman, I think the owners mother. The kale salad was very good and the entrees were moderate in size and affordable, the seating is a little tight and you can hear conversations from other tables it is a little intrusive unless you are dining with a larger party. As you know, I'm a huge music fan. I also like good eats and guess what-this place has both. Nestled in an old inn on Main Street in Camillus, the Green Gate looks like a well maintained mansion on the outside. Inside, your're greeted with the warmth of the woodwork and the aroma of something good on the stove. The 'formal' dining' area is set up with a homey feel. The cozy bar has plenty of seating and high top tables as well as room to stand which was needed on a recent Thursday night during their "Jazz in The Burbs" music series. Green Gate's menu has some interesting twists with the usual suspects (wings, burgers) as well as escargot, carpaccio, lobster dip and a unique Oktoberfest-inspired German menu tucked neatly inside the main menu. The staff hustles and they are always attentive. On a recent visit the house special was Utica Greens Green Gate style. Sauteed escarole and kale with house made sausage, smoked ham and grated parmesan baked and served hot! Wow! The burgers are winners, the wings are a hit, and while I did not partake the Schnitzel was getting rave reviews from others at our table. Put this place on your list! read more

I went there on a Thursday night from a recommendation through Facebook. Thursday night with sauerbraten. Unless you make your own it's a treat to go out and get this dish so I was excited to see that a restaurant still serves it. A rare Thursday night that my husband and I can get the same night off we went there last night. Dinner starts at 4 o'clock we were there at 7 o'clock we were told the sauerbraten wasn't ready it wouldn't be for another hour or so. Really might as well scrap that idea as a special for Thursday night. So I order the Reuben I figured next best thing. I was very disappointed to get a sandwich filled with sauerkraut a little shreds of corn beef. For $910 you expect a slice of meat not little scrap pieces next and sauerkraut. What a cheap cheap owner or cook I can't even say chef or cook would come up with that. Waste of time and a waste of money will never be back again and will never recommend to anyone!!! read more

Loved this place. We stopped in between lunch and dinner (3:00) and hoped to avoid pub food. We did. Regular dinner menu available and we ordered haddock with sides of slaw and, wait for it, ratatouille. Seriously? What a treat. Everything was hot and seasoned perfectly. The fish was lightly breaded and obviously fried in clean oil - flaky and flavorful. Slaw was fresh and the ratatouille contained firm and well blended veggies. Reasonable pricing for meals and drinks (nice house Chardonnay and Southern Tier 2x IPA). Service was friendly and well paced. We will happily be back. read more

Food was great but the service was really terrible waiting extremely long time. We had a nice old senior citizen waiting on us and she all she could do it to keep out of her own way. That said, the meal we had we had two orders of the special of the night baked stuffed haddock which was very good. I had to ask if they were going to bring me bread to the table. I also had the baked onion soup that took approximately 20 minutes to get to my table. When she brought the soup she then mentioned she was going to put the order in for our entrées which took another 20 minutes minimum. It was a very noisy atmosphere if you were near the bar and I also observed a waiter reaching into the popcorn machine to grab a handful with his bare hands, and he did this several times. We want to go back again sometime but we certainly don't want to go and have to wait like we did. read more

Ordered salad, fresh fish Hawaii shooters and a hamburger... Three people at the bar at 5 pm. Salads were good. Shooters were great for $3 - salmon never comes from Hawaii does it? The hamburger took 50 minutes... I don't know if the cattle was in the backyard... But with three people in the bar, u might find this as annoying as we did not coming from Camillus. I recommend armory and alphas in the university area if u are not a village local. The shooters were great but the service was pissy. Weigh your options and your patience. read more

Have been here twice since they reopened, never having been before. The menu is interesting and varied, I always want to order many things. I had a savory stroganoff crepe for dinner which was so rich and flavorful, and a ice cream loaded crepe for dinner! My company had a burger that was perfectly done. Before I had a teriyaki salmon salad that was very flavorful! One of the best parts is the atmosphere, it's in an old classic feeling colonial house, and there was an awesome funk band rocking near the bar. It was a very fun place! read more

Went with my group for prom we had a reservation and pre ordered. We got there right on time and still had to wait to sit then had to wait another 45 minutes for food. Our waitress forgot parts of our dinners such as my soup and my friend's salad. She also only brought water once and was pretty rude to our group. Overall not great service and over priced. $17 for salad and a cup of soup. The Caesar dressing was awesome though. read more

My fish, however was not very good because it was not given time to rest, and our entrees were rushed because we had been waiting so long. The service here needs managerial intervention and an attitude check. The bartender overpoured my draft and gave me an attitude when it went all over a bar seat. He offered me a disgusted glare instead of a bar towel. Our waitress was no better. The appetizers took 45 min and the entrees another 45 min. The waitress was a veritable ghost during our visit, and I babysat an empty glass for about 25 min during the wait. Waitress also acted annoyed that we requested separate checks. Nobody I came into contact with tonight acquited themselves well. It's sad that I have to rate this a 2 because the food was decent, but you can't charge premium prices and expect to flourish if your service acts like they are annoyed that they have to serve customers. read more

Will not return. Worst service ever. We have been here several time since we live in the area, and each time we tried to give it another chance. That last straw was a few weeks ago on a Friday night - NOT very busy. We waited over an hour for a wrap and a basket of fried shrimp. We could not get the waiters attention at all. When he delivered our food 55 min.s later we asked him why he would not even make eye contact with us. He said because he was over worked and would not be able to come over to the table so he avoided eye contact with every one. I wish we could say it was the first time. The time before that after waiting an hour we left and went to Nick's and ordered a Pizza. And not the food at the Green Gate is NOT worth the wait.. read more

Only 15 people were there and they said I would just have to be patient and be happy that they were serving me. Spoke to owner about the poor service and he called me an A-hole. Tried to eat here a couple of times but only got a chance to eat once and it was only OK. As far as other visits go I guess we tend to go out to eat lunch on Saturdays a lot. But this place only offers a "pub" menu on Saturday afternoon. My girlfriend ordered a martini that contained dairy. Upon her first sip she found it to be sour. She told the waitress that whatever dairy product the drink contained must have gone bad. The waitress refuted her claim and heads back to the bar before she can try to order something different. The waitress returns with the exact same drink which by this point no longer holds appeal. My girlfriend then politely asks for another style of martini. The waitress cops an attitude and brings it out. We eat our dinner which was decent. While I go to the bathroom the waitress brings the check out and tells my girlfriend we must pay for all the martinis and if we don't agree we can take it up with the bartender who is also the owner. When I come out of the bathroom the check is paid and my girl has her coat in hand ready to walk out. She doesn't tell me we paid for the rotten drinks until the ride home. This place has a reputation for terrible service and this was not our first bad experience at the green gate. We vowed to never go back then the place caught fire and closed months later. The owner is an a**. I hear they will re open. Shame someone else doesn't open a decent establishment there instead. read more
