The food was superb! We tried several different restaurants while visiting Skaneateles and this was my favorite place by far. The curry & pumpkin soup was delicious. Both flavors were combined perfectly and tasted decadent. It may have been my top meal of the weekend. The ribeye, filet, and scallop entrees were all amazing and have great flavor and were cooked perfectly. Overall, quite good. Relaxing atmosphere, tad chilly. Several servers led to some confusion as to who would be our actual waitstaff. Four introduced themselves besides the hostess. We ended up with a water/ drinks server who was fairly new, a bus/salad server who hadn't quite finished his training ( reaching across a seated person rather than serving from the outside of the table to each of us. He also had a bad habit of hooking a thumb into each salad). Nice kid, though. Waiter was difficult to understand clearly, but then I'm slightly deaf. All those nits picked aside, the food was terrific. The four of us had Caesar salads which were nicely done with dried capers instead of anchovy with an overall mellow palette. I prefer more lemon and garlic but that's just me. Most restaurants we visit are heavy-handed with presentation. Between the four of us we had a steak, a chicken zataar, and steak frites. Beef was cooked perfectly in a gentle, subtley-seasoned sauce. Best fries in town! Nice veggie medley. The chicken was pretty good. Not memorable, but a well executed idea. Portion sizes were just right for a summer evening. The most stunning taste of the night was the Earl Grey Crème Broulee. Really nice smoky flavor, not too sweet. Paired with Espresso. We again had a delicious meal at the Krebs. We arrived shortly before the 5pm opening knowing that the door is locked until then, so waited in the car. At 5, our coats were politely taken and we were led to a comfy corner table. Cocktails always seem to take a while to get, not sure why since the restaurant was empty. Otherwise, for a leisurely 3-course meal, everything was paced well over 2 hours. Margaret was our server, assisted by a well-organized staff. By the end of our meal, the restaurant was full and more frenzied. Our bread was focaccia which was served warm in a cast iron pan. Had to ask for more butter as only one pat was initially served by a possibility new staff member. We miss the variety they used to bring, 3 different breads or rolls. First, we shared a Krebs salad, fresh and refreshing. More than enough even when split. Our entrees were the short ribs and a half rack of lamb. Both met our expectations. We shared an order of mushrooms as an added treat. Desserts were crème brûlée and a chocolate cake concoction to round off a delicious meal. Worth the long drive for an occasional splurge! read more

My bestie and I had dinner at this very fine establishment on a Wednesday evening. It is very easy to find on Genesee Street and the outside of the restaurant is a beautiful nod to all of the other beautiful homes lining this street. We were greeted and seated right away by the hostess. The decor is a wonderful mix of past meets present with an eclectic mix of dining room and lounge furniture. There are actually 4 dining areas! Two have fireplaces and they add warmth to the restaurant. Our server, John, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the specials and the menu items. I had the soup special, the curried pumpkin with kick of spice, shaved coconuts lightly sprinkled into the soup and walnuts (?). I wanted another bowl because it was that good! For my main course I had the Roast Maitake set upon a mixture of great northern beans, leeks, fennel and a cashew cream sauce. I've never had a Maitake mushroom but this was seasoned beautifully and roasted making it so tender. The addition of the vegetable mixture was genius. My bestie had the Lobster Risotto which contained large pieces of lobster on top of the risotto with brown butter, butternut squash, delicate and lobster oil. She loved it! It was her birthday so they gave her a small scoop of housemade Vanilla Bean ice cream and wrote "happy birthday" in chocolate the ice cream plate. The Krebs does offer a Sunday Brunch.This was a wonderful dining experience and everyone made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The food was good, above average, but I wouldn't go as far to say as excellent. The ambiance was nice, cozy, and intimate. However, the service was terrible. I came to this establishment for my graduation from Cornell University, and had a subpar experience. Our waitress was nice, but too many errors were made during our visit. We were interested in the wine and wanted to try some but were not offered any tastings. This offer is typically in gourmet establishments such as these, but given that the staff was young, we set this aside. We then ordered one bottle of red wine and one bottle of white wine, yet two bottles of red wine were brought. Both of the bottles were poured at the same time (atypical), so each person in the party had 2 cups of wine. We brought this error to our server's attention where another server brought out the correct cups of wine but without the bottles, so we were losing the extra wine that we were paying for. Then we ordered a pasta with marinara sauce for a toddler in our party, and the pasta was served with alfredo sauce. Nobody told us that the marinara substitution wasn't possible until the last minute where the pasta came out shortly after. We also asked for a modification in their scallop dish, which was to eliminate their cauliflower puree. However, this dish still came with the puree. The service was slow and inconsistent. Lastly, they charged us for two bottles of red wine, which was not what we ordered. I wanted to have a nice celebratory dinner but this was not the place to do it. My family and I will not be coming back given all the service malfunctions. Poor management all around. read more

They ensured we were comfortable, explained ingredients, swapped out a drink when my friend didn't love it, and were super friendly. I dine out a lot in CNY and it was clear this staff was putting in effort to provide an above-average service. Much of the staff seemed pretty green (unfamiliar with menu, dish prep, cocktails) but our waitress would immediately seek information and come back to us with answers. The food was good! We ordered a cauliflower app special which was so delicious that we ordered a second on. The gin fizzes I ordered were perfectly made. The salad was delicious but very small for the price. My friends and I enjoyed our meals, though I expected my braised short rib to fall apart. Instead it required a steak knife. A large portion of it was fat as well which was a bit disappointing, especially for the price. Great flavor though. We were in a room near the bar, with a fireplace. Unfortunately the fire place was very hot and we had it turned off eventually but it was a pretty background while it lasted. The overall vibe was very country clubby. Though there is definitely room for growth, I still give it 5 stars as it was among my top 3 overall dining experiences in CNY in 2023. read more

The parking lot was full but there is easy street parking in Skaneateles. The restaurant did not seem super busy inside for a Friday night so I was surprised that the service was a bit slow (the bartender seemed overwhelmed, which became a rate limiting step). The bread choices were delicious- cheddar chive corn muffins and onion focaccia bread. I started off with a cocktail called The Belmont. It's a bourbon drink. It was my favorite part of the meal! For my entree, I ordered the blackened salmon. The veggie purée and the zucchini ribbons were delicious. The salmon was a good size portion and the flavor was wonderful but it was dry. I had to cut it with a knife, rather than simply use my fork. For dessert, I ordered the poached pear. Atypical for me, but they were out of cheesecake, which always calls my name. So this wasn't necessarily a planned stop however it worked out very well. We were in Skaneateles for the day to attend the "Dickens Christmas thing" as I like to call it. I looked into maybe going to this restaurant a few days earlier however not knowing if we would meet the dress code or not we weren't sure, plus we didn't make reservations in advance. It worked out well though because it wasn't as formal as I thought it might be and I was able to make reservations for 5:30 at 4:45 that day. The atmosphere was incredible in this place. It looked very upscale and the entire wait staff and hostesses were very friendly. The food itself was very good, Some things like the lobster bisque for example, although tasty, were not as expected in comparison to lobster bisque we have had at other places. My husband got the Bernardo and he LOVED it! Came with a cool ice cube in it- first was like a pineapple pattern and the second was textured. The cheese and charcuterie board was fantastic. It was presented and explained beautifully to us and also the bison tartare was yummy. Next time we will get dinner- we just wanted to swing by for some light food and drinks. The drinks were good, so that is the only reason for the stars they got. Service is horrible. The bartender ignored us until I asked him for service (there was only one other person there besides us). Then, we get a table and are never offered even water. Twenty-five minutes later, I had to hunt down a waitress for service. We eventually got our food, and it had no taste. We asked for salt and pepper eventually received a dish of salt. Did I mention this was a Thursday and there was only one other couple here? We ordered dessert and Irish coffee. We received our dessert and the waitress handd our bill without the coffee. I ask her about it and she obviously forgot it and then hands a new bill. We do not recommend this place. Overall food was not good and service was horrendous. read more

The dining room is beautiful; we were expecting a great brunch. The service is not attentive. We sat while only three other tables were occupied- our waiter spent fifteen minutes counting his tips before he came over to offer us drinks. When we asked for a fork or condiments, we again waited a very long time. It took forever before they cleared our plates away- it didn't seem to phase them that most of the food was uneaten. (We left hungry- and went to Doug's Fish Fry which was delicious!) We were a party of six, no one had a meal they enjoyed. The burger is not a smash burger as advertised, it was over cooked and under seasoned. Eggs Florentine should have spinach in it; not arugula. The waffle in the chicken and waffle dish was soggy and tasted stale. Not one dish was served to us hot. Hopefully the Krebs can improve the food and service. read more

Stopped here for dessert and cocktail and this place did not disappoint! Tried out the chocolate torte and the butter brown cake and oh my goodness they were amazing. The desserts were so decadent. The chocolate torte was so rich and just melted in your mouth I just couldn't stop eating it. I went on to the brown butter cake, and all the flavors just worked so well together. The cake itself was amazing but paired with the bourbon cherry ice cream, the mouse and the candied pecan, it took it to the next level with flavors and textures. The location is also amazing. Great decor inside and you also have the option to dine on the porch if it's available. Check this place out when you get a chance. Went here last night for Valentine's day. The interior/ambiance was incredible, very cute. The service was exceptional, our cutlery was replaced after each dish, and the server was extremely kind. I'm giving this three stars because the meal was okay. We got duck wings as an appetizer. The duck itself was nice and tender, but lacked in flavor overall. My pork chop entree was rather tough, and again, not much flavor. My girlfriend got the steak frites, and we were a bit surprised at how small the steak was when it came out, but the flavor was good. We each got different cocktails, with both of them being pretty watered down. I'd give four stars if this place was cheaper, but for the price point, I don't think the food lives up to expectations. read more

We were a group of 6, visiting from out of town and all of us were raving about this restaurant. We ordered the tuna tartare, truffle fries, duck wings for appetizers. All 10/10! We dined at the Krebs on a recent Saturday evening. We've been going there since they served family style. Over the years, we've found that although the food is always superior, the service has definitely deteriorated. Our server was clearly distracted, a little frazzled and harried. We sat for quite a while until she finally made it over to our table. She seemed undecided about various preparations of the evening specials; She said "haddock" when she MEANT "halibut!" (Quite different) Another diner called her out on this! We sat longer than acceptable with dirty plates in front of us. All in all, it was ok, however, they should clearly inform their servers of each special, and the difference between halibut and haddock! At one point the manager came over and asked if everything was ok; He may have been aware that our server had too many tables!! We visited The Krebs because we had a gift card. We had one of the best meals of our lives, at the suggestions of our server Jen who was attentive and warm. It was a fantastic experience. We loved the upscale but traditional setting and felt as if we were in someone's home having dinner. The food was excellent, with unique flavors that worked well together. My husband enjoyed his craft mocktails and I loved too many of the menu choices to choose. Jen suggested the porchetta and duck dishes, and they did not disappoint. So many wonderful flavors in each, and just thinking about them makes my mouth water! We had the stone fruit crumble for dessert and it was delicious! We will absolutely be back as much as we can. HAVE AGAIN: My previous visit was 43 years ago when I was blown away by The Krebs; so perhaps time has given me a different perspective. The Haricots Salad was very good, but the description listed asparagus and there was none. The Rack of Lamb was also very good and cooked just as I'd ordered. Four stars for the food. However, the service was very inattentive, perhaps due to difficulty in hiring. Anyway, glad I returned for another dinner, but next time I'll give Doug's Fish Fry a try. read more
